Aug 19, 2015I have a stored procedure that selects the unique Name of an item from one table.Â
SELECT DISTINCT ChainName from Chains
For each ChainName, there exists 0 or more StoreNames in the Stores. I want to return the result of this select as the second field in each row of the result set.
SELECT DISTINCT StoreName FROM Stores WHERE Stores.ChainName = ChainName
Each row of the result set returned by the stored procedure would contain:
ChainName, Array of StoreNames (or comma separated strings or whatever)
How can I code a stored procedure to do this?

Return Unique Count (Two Values)
Sep 6, 2013I need a query to return two values. One will be the total units and the other will be total unique units. See exmaple data below. It does not have to be one query. This will be in SP, so I can keep it seperate if I have to.
ID | ID_UNIT
1 | 01
1 | 01
1 | 02
1 | 03
1 | 03
1 | 04
1 | 04
I need two results.
Total Units = 7 - easy to do by using count()
Total unique units = 4 - I cannot use group by as it would return multiple results for each unit, which is not what we want.

I want to return a value of 1 if count(*)>0 AND 0 if COUNT(*) is 0
I have currently have this below, but isn't there a better way?
SELECT cnt=CASE WHEN (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM MyTable)>0 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END
(The full code is rather more complex than this, but the problem is the same)

Sep 15, 2006I am new to SQL and I am trouble-shooting a problem with a home-grown app someone else wrote using PERL. It has a web interface with names of boards. I found the program where i need to add the board names into and did that. The new board names show up in the drop-down list in the Web page for the app. Alerts are sent to the new board names and show up on the new boards. Users are granted access to the new boards and they can clear items off the new boards. Yet when i try to use a report function for the new boards i added, nothing is returned. I even ran a simple SQl select statement specifying the new board names and nothing is returned. The older board names, some of which i added myself, return values. I don't know what is going on. Any help is appreciated.

Overloading Select Statement Return Values

This is what I think and hope is a fairly straight forward SQL question
Essentially, I have a table which has the following columns that are relevent to my question:
PROJID
ACTIVITY_NAME
COMPLETION_DATE
Rows in this table are, for example:
PROJID ACTIVITY_NAME COMPLETION_DATE
1 Prepro 10/12/2007 3:42:30
2 Prepro 10/13/2007 9:16:27
2 QA 10/13/2007 10:00:01
2 Delivery 10/14/2007 09:31:12
etc.
So, really the key is the PROJID & the ACTIVITY_NAME (really, there's a unique column ID, but for this question, I'll leave it at that).
(Though this should be much easier to accomplish in code, the system is not built that way so) Is there a good way that I could return a status for a given PROJID based on whether a row exists for a given PROJID). In other words, ultimately, I would like to return something like this:
PROJID LAST_ACTIVITY
----------------------------------------------
1 Prepro
2 Delivery
where the activity order (in this case) is Prepro, QA, Delivery. So because a Delivery row exists for PROJID 2, then the LAST_ACTIVITY would return "Delivery" and because only Prepro exists for PROJID 1, the LAST_ACTIVITY returned would be Prepro

The criteria for Others is that those circles which are not part of #Lkp_OtherCircles i.e. C1,C2,C3 and C7 clubbed together. I have tried checking for the condition ISNULL when for that circle there is no user but the end result is same. Can someone tell me where I am going wrong and how to correct it?
Return NULL Values In SELECT Statement With INNER JOIN ?
May 16, 2005If I try to run the code below, and even one of the values in the INNER
JOIN statements is NULL, the DataReader ends up with zero rows.
What I need is to see the results even if one or more of INNER JOIN
statements has a NULL value. For example, if I want info on
asset# 2104, and there's no value in the DriverID field, I need the
rest of the data to display and just have the lblDriverName by

I'm just starting to use the dynamic SQL feature of SQL Server (with EXEC), and am wondering how to return a scalar value from a dynamic SQL expression. I realize I can't use EXEC in a user-defined function, but I want to create a stored procedure with one OUTPUT variable so I can simulate a function. The following code does not work, because EXEC does not return a value:

I have a maintenance proceudre that trims data tables on the live site, but prior to trimming i need to execute procs via linked servers at four seprate locations (subscribers) to ensure all of their data is up to date before the trim happens (the deletes are blocked at the subs). my problem is that if i go
exec @error_id = procname
and an error such as permission being denied or proc missing, the return code
is still 0 - therefor it looks like th proc ran successfully, meanwhile it didnt.
does anyone know how to check for these sorts of erors, so i dont leave this to chance?

Now I want to be able to create an "update" statement like "UPATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race" dynamically and execute this UPDATE statement. So, if the next select statement returns "age, sex, race, gender" then the script should create "UPDATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race + gender" and execute it.

Each time I try " RETURN EXEC(@RTN) " or something similar I get an error.
I have tried executing the tsql and assigning the result to a varchar and returning that varchar but i get an error.
Anyone with any ideas?

I need to get the count into a local variable:
Select @SQL = 'Select ' + @TotalRowCount + ' = Count(*) )' + ' From ' + @TableName + ' Where ' + @WhereClause
Exec(@SQL)
It complains about ‘…. Integer…’, but even if I use a varchar parm and convert Count to varchar in the sql statement, it still does not work. It does not like the = , or so it says.
Any help greatly appreciated,

Can Exec Select But Can't Exec Sp
Oct 31, 2007I have two SQL Server 2000 (one is localhost, one is remote with VPN IP 192.168.5.4).
I can select * from [192.168.5.4].db.dbo.test but I can't exec [192.168.5.4].db..spAdd in localhost.
These select and sp is OK for 1 or 2 week without any problem,but it didn't work one day.
Can some one explain why?
Exec SQL Task: Capture Return Code Of Stored Proc Not Working
May 19, 2006I am just trying to capture the return code from a stored proc as follows and if I get a 1 I want the SQL Task to follow a failure(red) constrainst workflow and send a SMTP mail task warning the customer. How do I achieve the Exec SQL Task portion of this, i get a strange error message [Execute SQL Task] Error: There is an invalid number of result bindings returned for the ResultSetType: "ResultSetType_SingleRow".
Using OLEDB connection, I utilize SQL: EXEC ? = dbo.CheckCatLog
EXEC SQL Task Editer settings:
RESULTSET: Single Row
PARAMETER MAPPING: User::giBatchID
DIRECTION: OUTPUT
DATATYPE: LONG
PARAMETER NAME: 0
PS-Not sure if I need my variable giBatchID which is an INT32 but I thought it is a good idea to feed the output into here just in case there is no way that the EXEC SQL TASK can chose the failure constrainst workflow if I get a 1 returned or success constraint workflow if I get a 0 returned from stored proceedure

Basically the the array of numbers I want to look for are in row 1 of table [test 1] and I want to search for them and count the "out of" in table [test 2]. Excuse me for not using the easiest way to convey my question below. I guess in short I have 10 numbers and like to find how many of those numbers exist in each row. short example:

Attempt To Return Record Set In INSERT...EXEC Statement From ODBC Source(non MSSQL)

I use OdbcConnection inside clr procedure, for getting data. If I use simple EXEC dbo.clr_proc - all is OK. If I use INSERT...EXEC I recive error message: Distributed transaction enlistment failed.
I set MSDTC security options for No Authentification and Allow inbound and Allow outbound, but it's no use.
Have this problem solution? May be, I must use another method to get my data?
P.S. Linked Servers and OPENQUERY is not applicable. Sybase not describe columns in stored proc result set and one stored proc may return different result set by params.

Count Of Sum - Return Value
Nov 16, 2012I'm trying to do a sum of a count. I'm running the below query. I want a sum of BrowserCount however I want to return the datatable which is returned by this query. Is that possible should I be using a return value? Or is there another way?

So I'm looking at the last fifteen days of data and I want to see how many data points are below a certain value, and the average of those data points. This is the query I'm currently using:

ORDER BY TRUNC(t.THETIME)
I later have to compare the result of this query to the same query without the 't.THEVALUE <= 50' condition. The problem I'm having is that if there are no values below 50 there is no '0' with that date. Is there a way to return 0's for days with no values below 50 that meet the time constraints? Thanks.
