RDA Pull - Connection String Error
Mar 26, 2008
'conn info
Const localConnectionString As String = "Data Source = TestDB.sdf"
Const serverConnectionString As String = "Server=myserver;database=BoxDB;Integrated Security=True;"
Sub CreateUploadOnlyTable()
Dim rda As SqlCeRemoteDataAccess = Nothing
Try
rda = New SqlCeRemoteDataAccess()
rda.LocalConnectionString = localConnectionString
rda.InternetUrl = "http://myserver/BoxCE/sqlcesa30.dll"
rda.Pull("temp_Swipes", "SELECT * FROM Swipes WHERE 1 = 0", serverConnectionString, RdaTrackOption.TrackingOnWithIndexes, "Swipe_Errors")
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.ToString)
SaveTextToFile(ex.ToString, "CreateUploadOnlyTable.txt", "RDA Error!")
Finally
rda.dispose()
End Try
End Sub
when i try to run it on my CE device i get an error which i have no idea about and can't resolve via google'ing.
"multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. no work was done"
My aim here is just a basic Pull (but containing no data hence the 'WHERE 1=0')
Any answers to this error? is it my conn string? i did have conn string errors earlier and am guessing they are linked.

I have a VB 2005 synchronization application that successfully pulls (through RDA) data to a SQL 2005 Mobile DB at my place of business, but when I try it at home on my SSL VPN Client connection, I get Hresult -2147012889 ("A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed."). Typically, a -2147012889 error is a connection issue that relates to resolving the server name.
Here's a snippet:
Dim RemoteConn As String = "Provider=sqloledb; Data Source={company server};" _
& "Initial Catalog={companyDB}; User ID={username}; password={pass}"
'& "Persist Security Info=False;Integrated Security=False"
Dim SourceURL As String = "http://{Company server name}/MobileConnection/sqlcesa30.dll"
Dim SqlRA As New System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeRemoteDataAccess
SqlRA.LocalConnectionString = strConn
SqlRA.InternetUrl = SourceURL
SqlRA.InternetLogin = ""
SqlRA.InternetPassword = ""
SqlRA.CompressionLevel = 3
Try
(Perform Pulls...etc..)
When I pull the sourceURL string and plug it into IE, it works fine. I get the "SQL Server Mobile Server Agent 3.0" message indicating that I have a solid connection over to IIS. That works fine.
But I can't figure out anything in the program. I've rotated the IP address with the name resolution and neither works for me in the program. The difference though when I use the IP address for the server is that I get a slightly different Hresult of -2147012867 (which means you can't connect to the server).
Also, I have IIS configured for anonymous access, the SQL DB I'm trying to pull from isn't restricting access, and my company doesn't have a proxy I need to go through.
Does anyone have any ideas for this issue?

Now you all must admit that, if your somewhat new to this databasing, It's a ***.
The source for my application is Visual Web Designer 2005 Express
It is an ASP.Net driven site with membership roles and all the good stuff.
the latest theory is that I need to change the provider config in the web.config file from AspNetSqlProvider
to something else. Most of my complications and frustrations come from GoDaddy and no access to the
shared server (understandibly).
I hope I gave enough info for help and not too much..

OK - I have seen lots posted on this, but the behavior is very strange, and I am trying to understand:
I am using Visual Basic 2003 with SQLEXPRESS 2005 to connect to a database and to develop a desktop application. My connection string is:
Conn_Str = "Data Source=.SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=" & _
Directory.GetCurrentDirectory & "CWW.mdf;" & _
"Trusted_Connection=Yes;"
I get the following error:
"An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsBrianMy DocumentsCompressor Program DevelopmentinCWW.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
However, if I copy the database to anywhere else on the "c:" drive, the connection works, as in the following:
Conn_Str = "Data Source=.SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=" & _
"C: empCWW.mdf;" & _
"Trusted_Connection=Yes;"
What I have found is that ist works everywhere on my computer except in the following location:
"c:documents and settingsBrian", which includes My Documents, Desktop folders.
Why is this??
Any help would be great - I can work around this by moving my development folder to the "c:" drive. Since my ultimate application directory will be the "Program Files" directory I should be fine.

Could someone please help me? I am trying to pull in a partial string (the last six characters of the field, to be exact).
This is an example of my code:
select *
into #temp_2
from #temp_1 a, Server2.DBa.dbo.table2 r
where r.field1r = a.field1a and
r.field3r = a.field3a (field3a is where I need just the last 6 characters)
To be more specific:
r.field3r looks like 000884
a.field3a looks like 17445000884
So- I just want to pull in the 000884 off of a.field3a

I have been having a problem trying to connect to a SQL Server. I have installed the Developer edition on an MS Small Business edition 2003 server
I also installed MS Sql Manager and I was able to create a database and connect to it. The database server is in the same PC. I used the surface configuration to enable remote connections using TCP /IP and pipe lines.
My application runs without a problem on my development machine but when I deployed on this server I get the provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid Error.
this is my config file setup
<connectionStrings> <add name="Diamond_dbConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=192.168.1.104MSSQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=Diamond_db;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings>
I have google and yahoo this error I found a lot of information I've tried many of them but still having the problem. I will appreciate your help solving this problem. I have a customer waiting since last week to see this site and I'm still stuck.

Hi;
Installed MSDE on computer by running:
c:setup INSTANCENAME="VSdotNET" SAPWD="PASSWORD" SECURITYMODE=SQL
REBOOTED AND sql SERVER iCON APPEARS on the lower desktop Icon bar, open it and it says:
Server: JOHN Servises: SQL Server Running \JOHN - MSSQLServer
opened a command prompt at c: and
entered osql -S JOHN -U sa -P password
and got the 1> reply on the next line
I typed EXIT
I had downloaded two scripts that create Pubs and Northwind SQL databases. I put them in the C: folder
I Typed at c:osql -E -i instpubs.sql
It created the pubs SQL database for me
I Typed at c:osql -E -i instnwinds.sql
It created the nwinds SQL database for me
I closed the command prompt and
went to the Administrator Tools in the Control Panel
I selected Data OLEDB Selected ADD entered Pubs and used default values for Pubs to create a connection Tested it OK
Then went and ran Visual Studio Net 2003
Checked to see if the pubs and northwind SQL databases where present in the Server Explorer drop down window.
I seleced the connect to database Icon and in it's Data Link Properties
I entered JOHN for server name
pubs for selected database on the server
with Provider as MS OLEDB for SQL Service
the Icon changed to connected.
I entered this in the code for page_load
Dim MyDS As New DataSet
Dim ConnStr As String
Dim SQL As String
ConnStr = "server=(local)C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLData;database=pubs;Trusted_Connection=yes"
SQL = "SELECT * FROM Titles " & _
"SELECT * FROM Publishers"
Dim MySqlConn As New SqlConnection(ConnStr)
Dim MySqlAdapter As New SqlDataAdapter(SQL, ConnStr)
'The SqlDataAdapter will automatically open and
'close the SqlConnection
MySqlAdapter.Fill(MyDS)
But I can not get this to work it errors out on line:
MySQLAdapter.Fill(myDS)
with: [SqlException (0x80131904): Unknown ProviderError Locating Server/Instance Specified ]
System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(Object owningObject) +317
I change ConnStr to this:
ConnStr = "server=(local)data;database=pubs; uid=sa; Pwd=password" & _
"Trusted_Connection=true"
and get this error:
[SqlException (0x80131904): Shared Memory Provider: The system cannot find the file specified.
]
System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(Object owningObject) +317
I've tried so many combination with and without user and password, I just don't get it, spent three long days stuck here, can someone help me out.
Note:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLData
Is the accual location on my machine that pubs database is located.
I can use the pubs SQL database in Web Matrix OK.

'17686568 - Bill Statement - 11/16/2006 - Stm. Date - 10/27/2006'
Above is the data string that I am trying to pull the information from. Here is the function I'm currently using:
cast(substring(c.itemname,charindex('Bill Statement - ',c.itemname)+18,10) as varchar)
...which gives me what i want most of the time, but beacuse the date is not equally formatted through out the database and the date can look like 5/4/2012 and using the above formula it will show up as 5/4/2012 -
So my question is how can i trim off the dash part when the data shows up like 5/4/2012 - ?

In the below procedure definition, i need to find a way parse the definition and get the list of places where the where clause is being used.
SELECT DISTINCT
FC.CASE_ID,
UPPER(FC.CASE_NUMBER) AS CASE_NUMBER,
UPPER(REPLACE(FC.CASE_SHORT_TITLE,CHAR(13)+CHAR(10),'')) AS CASE_SHORT_TITLE,
FC.CASE_STATUS_DESCR,
FC.CASE_TYP_DESC, FC.CASE_SUB_TYP_DESC,
[Code] ....
In the above query there are more than one places and the where clause may not have the same string the where clause it can be with a space between the "=" and the value in single quotes.
Result set should be in the below format:
TABLE NAME Column Name VALUE
CFG_ELEMENTS ELEMENT_NAME REPORT_CONSOLIDATEDCASES_CASERELATEDTYPID

I added a connection (ADO.NET) object by name testCon in the connection manager - I wanted to programmatically supply the connection string. So I used the "Expressions" property of the connection object and set the connectionstring to one DTS variable. The idea is to supply the connection string value to the variable - so that the connection object uses my connection string.
Then I added a "Backup Database Task" to my package with the name BkpTask. Now whenever I try to set the connection property of BkpTask to the testCon connection object, by typing testCon, it automatically gets cleared. I am not able to set the connection value.
Then after spending several hours I found that this is because I have customized the connection string in testCon. If I don't customize the connection string, I am able to enter the "testCon" value in the connection property of the BkpTask.
Is this an intrinsic issue?

Hi all,
I have following problem:
I'm developing a Windows Mobile application, which is using RDA Pull for retrieving data from SQL Server 2005 database to PDA. Please, see the example:
Code Snippet
using (SqlCeEngine engine = new SqlCeEngine(connStr))
{
engine.CreateDatabase();
}
serverConnStr="Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=.;User ID=sa;Initial Catalog=Demo;Password=xxx";
using (SqlCeRemoteDataAccess rda = new SqlCeRemoteDataAccess(
Configuration.Default.SyncServerAddress, "", "", connStr))
{
rda.Pull("MyTable", "SELECT * FROM mytable", serverConnStr, RdaTrackOption.TrackingOffWithIndexes, "ErrorTable");
}
Everythink works fine, when I use 'sa' user account in serverConnStr.
But, when I change conn string to:
"Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=.;User ID=test;Initial Catalog=Demo;Password=test"
the sqlcesa30.dll cannot connect to SQL Server database.
In the sqlcesa30.log then I found following line:
Code Snippet
2007/04/17 10:43:31 Thread=1EE30 RSCB=16 Command=PULL Hr=80040E4D Login failed for user 'test'. 18456
The user 'test' is member of db_owner, db_datareader and public roles for the Demo database and in SQL Server Management Studio I'm able to login to the Demo database with using the 'test' users credentials and I'm able to run the select command on 'mytable'.
So, what's wrong? Why the sqlcesa30.dll process cannot login to the Demo database, and from another application with using the SAME connection string it works?
Please help.
Thank you.
Fipil.

Hi,
I'm having a BIG problem, this is my 3rd day looking for answer !I'm trying to create a custom membership provider with MS SQL database 2005 but not the default ASPNETDB. I've changed the web.config to be as following:<connectionStrings><add name="sqlConn" connectionString="Data Source=.;Integrated Security=True;Initial Catalog=ASPNETDB;"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /></connectionStrings> <system.web><trace enabled="true" /><roleManager enabled="true" /><authentication mode="Forms" />
<membership defaultProvider="MySqlProvider"><providers><remove name="AspNetSqlProvider"/><add name="MySqlProvider" connectionStringName="SqlConn" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider" applicationName="/" /></providers></membership>
But when I try to login to the site using the login control the following error occurs:
Server Error in '/etest' Application.
Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately. It is clear that this is a prblem with my Machine.Config file - since I've "worked!" on this file for a while. But when I've checked the Machine.config file I've found the LocalSqlServer connection it is talking about! .
I'm lost and I dunno what to do, can anyone help?

When doing a pull subscription where the schema is also replicated, the snapshot fails with the message " The process could not create the file
[machine name]D$MSSQL7ReplDataunc[Publisher Name]DateTable Name.sch
There is an OS Error Code of 5 saying Acces is denied.
The file mentioned above is created, so perhaps it fails trying to create a file for the next table.
Thanks for any light that you can shed!

My dev environment: VS2005, SQLServer Mobile, SQLServer 2005 server db, PPC windows app.
Having a problem with pull. First pull works fine. I request an error table from the pull. When I need to repull, I drop the table, but if I try to programmatically delete the error table, I get the message that the table has restricted DDL operations allowed. Apparently Drop is not allowed. Sometimes dropping the main table deletes the error table, sometimes it doesn't. If I try to repull and the error table is there, the pull fails.
I've tried "flushing" my cache by closing my connection and reopening, but that doesn't work.
Any ideas?

I have been trying to host my website on Go Daddy for about 3 weeks and I have cleared several problems but this one remains. I can get into the ASPNETDB database for doing logins , etc but I cant access my database called "PINEmgt".
To try to understand where the problem is located,I built a very simple application without login controls and put on it one Detailform accessing a single line table "Signin". I continually get the error message I got with my real app :"The connection name 'PINEMgtConnectionString2' was not found in the applications configuration or the connection string is empty. " There is only one connection string in my app -'PINEMgtConnectionString2'. When I run the app locally on my machine it works. After I move everything to Go Daddy, I get the error message and the following dump"
Line 24: </Fields>
Line 25: </aspetailsView>
Line 26: <aspqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStringsINEMgtConnectionString2 %>"
Line 27: InsertCommand="INSERT INTO Signup(first_name, last_name, email, customer_id) VALUES (,,,)"
Line 28: SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [Signup]"></aspqlDataSource>
This is indeed the code from my single page app.
The dump is:

After Googleing, asking Go Daddy for info (which they dont give) , etc for three weeks, I need serious mental help
in the form of a solution of this problem. Your help with the problem or the name of a good mental health professional in eastern N.C. (maybe both) would be appreciated.

I have seen another thread with this same problem, but the problem seemed to be a typo. I am getting an error when I try to access the web site ..
The connection name 'USASH-AS0013' was not found in the applications configuration or the connection string is empty.
However, in my web.config file I do have a connection named USASH-AS0013. Here is my web.config file (with my user/pwd hidden). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Darren & All,
Thanks! As per your guidance, i have tried in the pull method.Now i am getting error "The LocalTablename parameter is already specified".
Coding as follows:
string rdaOleDbConnectString = @"Provider=SQLOLEDB; Data Source=PRASSANAPRASANA;Initial Catalog=master;User Id=sa;Password=master";
SqlCeRemoteDataAccess rda = null;
try
{
rda = new SqlCeRemoteDataAccess();
rda.LocalConnectionString = "Data Source=E:\SampleTest.sdf";
rda.InternetUrl = "http://192.168.1.118/TEst/sqlcesa30.dll";
rda.InternetLogin = "IUSR_PRASSANA";
rda.InternetPassword = "PRASSANA";
rda.Pull("company", "Select * from company", rdaOleDbConnectString, RdaTrackOption.TrackingOn);
MessageBox.Show("Pull Method");
}
catch (SqlCeException)
{
Message.show(ex.message);
}
finally
{
// Dispose of the RDA Object
//
rda.Dispose();
}
}
Please guide me in detail, what mistake i have done in this method.

I have a child package where the ConnectionString property of a Connection Manager is set by a Parent Package Variable Configuration. I set up a script task that brings up a message box with the value of the ConnectionString property right before the dataflow task.
MessageBox.Show(Dts.Connections["CPU_*"].ConnectionString.ToString());When I run the parent package, the message box shows that the connection string is changing with every iteration, but in the dataflow it always draws the data from the same source.
The connection manager is an ADO.Net type, RetainSameConnection is set to False, and I've been researching this for days.
(Update 2/23/2015): To make this stranger, when I look at the diagnostic logs, they tell me that when the new connections are being opened they are using the new connection strings.

This is the first time I have used SSIS, so please bear with the ignorance.
I have a super simple package that inserts x000's of rows into a temporary table. The data source is a file that the user will upload. I need to be able to tell the package what file to upload. I'm thinking the simplest thing would be to edit the connectionString property of the SourceConnectionFlatFile at runtime. Is this possible? What form should the file path be in (UNC, other)? And, are there any other considerations I should be aware of?
Thanks!
