RS.EXE Parameters Not Working

Jan 5, 2007

Hi Everyone,

I am having a problem with the RS utility not recognizing my query parameters that I am passing to my timed subscription. I have set up my report with a "WorkOrder" parameter. I have created a trigger that causes my subscription to fire, and that trigger passes in the workorder number to the utility. The subscription fires successfully, but I am getting a blank report.

I set the parameter value to "can be blank" so that I could create my subscription w/o an error. I know that my subscription id is correct when I use the fire method, because I DO get the appropriate report.

I am also having the same problem when I actually log in to the report server and execute the utility from the command line. I believe my report is good. Once the report is generated, I am able to follow my URL, plug in the workorder id, and it works.

What would cause the variable not to be passed in/recognized? This is how I am calling it from the command line:

rs -i C:ReportingServicesasbuilts.rss -v WorkOrder="10610" -s http://(servername)/ReportServer

Thanks!

Working With SqlCommand And Parameters

Nov 30, 2005

i am inserting into a table using the sqlCommand parameters property.for example i do :sqlCmd.Parameters.Add("@date_birth_hebrew", Request("date_birth_hebrew"))the date_birth_hebrew is not a must and has allow null value in the db.when the user submits the form and leaves the textbox of date_birth_hebrewnot field out and i try to add this value to parameters as the above code i recive :Prepared statement '(@date1 datetime,@first_name nvarchar(4000),@last_na' expects parameter @date_birth_hebrew, which was not supplied. as i understand beacuse the Request("date_birth_hebrew") is empty the sqlCommand.Parameters acts as no value entered.i hae solved this problem by on each value checking thatif Parameters Request("date_birth_hebrew")="" thensqlCmd.Parameters.Add("@date_birth_hebrew", "")but isnt there any another way?thnaks in advancepeleg

Default Parameters Not Working

May 24, 2007

I have 9 parameters which all have defaul values and 1 that does not, 4 of them show the correct default but 5 of them state <Select a Value>.

I have copied the report project to another pc and the same problem occurs.

I have tried deleting 'reports' and 'reportserver' from iis and recreating them, as well as deleting the actual report from http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx [then selecting 'show details' and deleting and redeploying the report].

I have even tried toggling the default values on/off. I am at a loss, I can only think that the report project file(s) need to be manually amended in some way. There is nothing significantly different between the parameters to justify them not defaulting

SQLDataSource Update Using Parameters Not Working

Jul 10, 2006

I'm passing a parameter to a stored procedure stored on my sqlserver, or trying to atleast.  And then firing off the update command that contains that parameter from a button.  But it's not changing my data on my server when I do so.
I'm filling a dropdown list from a stored procedure and I have a little loop run another sp that grabs what the selected value should be in the dropdown list when the page loads/refreshes.  All this works fine, just not sp that should update my data when I hit the submit button.
It's supposed to update one of my tables to whatever the selected value is from my drop down list.  But it doesn't even change anything.  It just refreshes the page and goes back to the original value for my drop down list.
Just to make sure that it's my update command that's failing, I've even changed the back end data manually to a different value and on page load it shows the proper selected item that I changed the data to, etc.  It just won't change the data from the page when I try to.

This is what the stored procedure looks like:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[UPDATE_sp] (@SelectedID int) AS
BEGIN
UPDATE [Current_tbl]
SET ID = @SelectedID
WHERE PrimID = '1'
END
Delete Statement With Parameters Not Working
DeleteCommand.Connection = DBConnectionClass.myConnection;
DeleteCommand.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
// Store Primary Key photoID passed here from DeleteRows_Click
DeletePrimaryKeyParam.ParameterName = "@PhotoID";
DeletePrimaryKeyParam.Value = photoID.ToString();
// Insert new parameter into command object
DeleteCommand.Parameters.Add(DeletePrimaryKeyParam);
// Delete row, open connection, execute, close connection
DeleteCommand.CommandText = "Delete From Photo_TBL where PhotoID IN (@PhotoID)";
Response.Write(DeleteCommand.CommandText);
Multivalue Parameters For Filter Not Working
Jan 12, 2008
Hi,
I've tried using the same method mentioned in the dozens of posts dedicated to this topic but it's not working.
My SQL statement is:
SELECT [University Origins].Origin, COUNT([University Origins].Origin) AS TotalCount, Hospitals.Name
FROM Posts INNER JOIN
Hospitals ON Posts.HospitalID = Hospitals.[Hospital ID] CROSS JOIN
[University Origins] INNER JOIN
Incumbents ON [University Origins].[Uni Origin ID] = Incumbents.[University Origin]
WHERE (NOT ([University Origins].Origin = 'No answer')) AND (Hospitals.Name IN (@HospitalFilter))
GROUP BY [University Origins].Origin, Hospitals.Name
The HospitalFilter parameter is set to Multivalue and it's populated with it's own SQL statement giving the Distinct Hospitals.
I have setup a filter on my table with the following expressions:
Expression: =Trim(Fields!Name.Value)
Operator: = IN
Value: =Trim(Parameters!HospitalFilter.Value.ToString )
I have used Trim to remove leading and trailing spaces.
Running the report always returns zero results and I'm puzzled by this. Would appreciate any advice and suggestions
Thanks,
John
Selected Date Parameters Not Working
Jun 2, 2007
Hi all,
I'm looking to return certain rows from our db into an SSRS based on a user selected date range using the parameters calendar.
My query/analyzer returns all required fields/rows, but how do I
pull the specific rows, (that are based on a date range that the user enters),into the report? I've tried expressions, and vb functions to no avail. The users will be using the calendar parameter to select date ranges .So far the reports pull in all rows from my query.
Thanks,
Scott
Working With Multi-valued, Query Based Parameters
Dec 27, 2006
I am currently working with 3 multi-valued parameters whose data sources are queries. The first 2 are required to have entries, 100% of the time, but the third one may or may not require selecting a value. Parm3's data source is filtered by the selections of Parm1 & Parm2. The data source for my report references Parm3 in a derived table that is then LEFT OUTER JOINed.
In the cases where the report does not require any selection from Parm3 I am still required to pick at least 1 entry. Can anyone shed some light on this, or provide a solution so I am not forced to pick any if I don't want?
Thanks in advance,
Michael
Reporting Services :: Multi Value Cascading Parameters Not Working
When I select single value in Region it works perfectly. But when I choose multiple values, District turns out to be a blank text box. I have used the In clause in my code :
SELECT
DISTINCT
SalesDistrict
Date Parameters In Query Aren't Working Properly
Dec 11, 2007
I'm a SQL newbie, and I'm trying to write a report that returns records based on a beginning and end date that the user supplies. But when I run the query and supply the dates (begin 11/29/2007 / end 11/30/2007, for example), I'm only getting back one record, when there should be at least 3. It appears that my query is ignoring the =, and only returning those records that have a date > or <, not <= or >=.
I was told that it's possible that the time needs to be converted to UTC as well, but I'm not sure how to do that ( I tried, but I really don't know what I'm doing so I commented it out)... Can someone offer some guidance on how to get all the records to show up? I've pasted my query below, thanks in advance!
SELECT FilteredContact.fullname, FilteredContact.new_memberleadsourcename, FilteredContact.new_prospectforclubname, FilteredContact.owneridname,
FilteredContact.new_referred_by, convert(varchar(10),FilteredContact.createdon,101) as Date--, SELECT GETDATE(FilteredContact.createdon) AS CurrentTime, GETUTCDATE(FilteredContact.createdon) AS UTCTime
FROM FilteredContact JOIN filteredOpportunity on
FilteredOpportunity.contactid = Filteredcontact.contactid
where filteredopportunity.new_opportunitytype = 1 and (FilteredContact.createdon >= '11/29/2007') and (FilteredContact.createdon <= '11/30/2007')
Some Things Not Working In 2005 And Working In 2000
Mar 3, 2006
hi
I had a view in which I did something like this
isnull(fld,val) as 'alias'
when I assign a value to this in the client (vb 6.0) it works ok in sql2000 but fails in 2005.
When I change the query to fld as 'alias' then it works ok in sql 2005 .
why ?? I still have sql 2000 (8.0) compatability.
Also some queries which are pretty badly written run on sql 2000 but dont run at all in sql 2005 ???
any clues or answers ?? it is some configuration issue ?
Thanks in advance.
ADO.NET 2-VB 2005 Express Form1:Printing Output Of Returned Data/Parameters From The Parameters Collection Of A Stored Procedure
Mar 12, 2008
Hi all,
From the "How to Call a Parameterized Stored Procedure by Using ADO.NET and Visual Basic.NET" in http://support.microsft.com/kb/308049, I copied the following code to a project "pubsTestProc1.vb" of my VB 2005 Express Windows Application:
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data.SqlDbType
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim PubsConn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;integrated security=sspi;" & "initial Catalog=pubs;")
Dim testCMD As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("TestProcedure", PubsConn)
testCMD.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
Dim RetValue As SqlParameter = testCMD.Parameters.Add("RetValue", SqlDbType.Int)
RetValue.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue
Dim auIDIN As SqlParameter = testCMD.Parameters.Add("@au_idIN", SqlDbType.VarChar, 11)
auIDIN.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input
Dim NumTitles As SqlParameter = testCMD.Parameters.Add("@numtitlesout", SqlDbType.Int)
NumTitles.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output
auIDIN.Value = "213-46-8915"
PubsConn.Open()
Dim myReader As SqlDataReader = testCMD.ExecuteReader()
Console.WriteLine("Book Titles for this Author:")
Do While myReader.Read
Console.WriteLine("{0}", myReader.GetString(2))
Loop
myReader.Close()
Console.WriteLine("Return Value: " & (RetValue.Value))
Console.WriteLine("Number of Records: " & (NumTitles.Value))
End Sub
End Class
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The original article uses the code statements in pink for the Console Applcation of VB.NET. I do not know how to print out the output of ("Book Titles for this Author:"), ("{0}", myReader.GetString(2)), ("Return Value: " & (RetValue.Value)) and ("Number of Records: " & (NumTitles.Value)) in the Windows Application Form1 of my VB 2005 Express. Please help and advise.
Thanks in advance,
ExecuteNonQuery - Add Working/Update Not Working
Jan 7, 2004
I am writing a pgm that attaches to a SQL Server database. I have an Add stored procedure and an Update stored procedure. The two are almost identical, except for a couple parameters. However, the Add function works and the Update does not. Can anyone see why? I can't seem to find what the problem is...
This was my test:
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("pContact_Update", cn)
'Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("pContact_Add", cn)
Try
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
cmd.Parameters.Add("@UserId", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = UserId
cmd.Parameters.Add("@FirstName", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = TextBox1.Text
[...etc more parameters...]
cmd.Parameters.Add("@Id", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = ContactId
cn.Open()
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
Label1.Text = "done"
cn.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
Label1.Text = ex.Message
End Try
When I use the Add procedure, a record is added correctly and I receive the "done" message. When I use the Update procedure, the record is not updated, but I still receive the "done" message.
I have looked at the stored procedures and the syntax is correct according to SQL Server.
Please I would appreciate any advice...
Query Duration Using Parameters Vrs No Parameters
Apr 27, 2006
Hi,
I have an app in C# that executes a query using SQLCommand and parameters and is taking too much time to execute.
I open a SQLProfiler and this is what I have :
exec sp_executesql N' SELECT TranDateTime ... WHERE CustomerId = @CustomerId',
N'@CustomerId nvarchar(4000)', @CustomerId = N'11111
I ran the same query directly from Query Analyzer and take the same amount of time to execute (about 8 seconds)
I decided to take the parameters out and concatenate the value and it takes less than 2 second to execute.
Here it comes the first question...
Why does using parameters takes way too much time more than not using parameters?
Then, I decided to move the query to a Stored Procedure and it executes in a snap too.
The only problem I have using a SP is that the query can receive more than 1 parameter and up to 5 parameters, which is easy to build in the application but not in the SP
I usually do it something like
(@CustomerId is null or CustomerId = @CustomerId) but it generate a table scan and with a table with a few mills of records is not a good idea to have such scan.
Is there a way to handle "dynamic parameters" in a efficient way???
Parameters Dependencies When Using Parameters!Name.Label
Mar 7, 2007
Hello:
I just recently bumped into this problem and I think I know what's causing it. This is the setup:
Report Parameters: FromDate, ToDate, DivisionalOffice, Manager, SalesRep
dsCalendarEvents Parameters: FromDate.Value, ToDate.Value, DivisionalOffice.Value,
dsDivisions Parameters: N/A
dsManager Parameters: DivisionalOffice.Value
dsSalesRep: DivisionalOffice.Label
When I query the ReportServices WS and scan the parameter dependencies for SalesRep it says there are four dependencies: FromDate, ToDate, DivisionalOffice and Manager!!!
If I change "dsSalesRep" to use "DivisionalOffice.Value" the ReportingServices WS parameter dependency scan returns only one dependency for "SalesRep" parameter!!!( This is the correct behavior )
Has anybody seen this behavior and more importantly, is there a work around?
Parameters.AddWithValue Vs. Parameters.Add
Jan 2, 2008
Hello all,
Given:
string commandText = "Categories_Delete";SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand(commandText, connection);myCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
   Is there a reason NOT to use myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@CategoryID",CategoryID); I'd prefer to use that over  myCommand.Parameters.Add("@CategoryID", SqlDbType.Int, 4).Value = CategoryID; as I have these functions being created dynamically and hope to get away from a big lookup to try to convert System.Types into SqlDbTypes. [shudder]
It seems that ADO.NET makes an implicit conversion to the valid type.  If this is correct then I can move on fat dumb and happy.  Anyone have any good insight?
Thanks,
WHERE NOT IN Not Working
Feb 23, 2008
Original suggestion for my problem was -  Select * from TableA where ID not in ( Select ID from TableB)
When I run the query below using the IN operator I get 227 records returned but when I use NOT IN I get zero records when I expect well over 10,000.  What am I missing?
using SQL 2000 server
 SELECT    LinksInfo.L_ID, LinksInfo.C_ID, Companies.C_CompanyName, Companies.C_Email, Companies.C_CompanyEmailFROM         LinksInfo INNER JOIN Companies ON LinksInfo.C_ID = Companies.C_IDWHERE     (LinksInfo.L_ID IN           (SELECT ZL_ID FROM Location_Zip))
Why Is This Not Working
Mar 25, 2008
Hello again,
I think im missing something here, i just cant find out what it is.
I have a temp table:
CREATE TABLE #tempSearch(tempID BIGINT IDENTITY(1,1) PRIMARY KEY,username NVARCHAR(20) COLLATE Finnish_Swedish_CI_AS,lastlogin DATETIME,signupdate DATETIME)
Now i am trying to retrieve some data for each user that is inside this tempSearch list and have an id over xxx (xxx = the value of the parameter @first_id):
SELECT @sql = 'SELECT profile_publicinfo.username, profile_publicinfo.gender, profile_publicinfo.signupdate, profile_profilephoto.imageurl, profile_profilephoto.alttext, settings_username.color, profile_publicinfo.lastloginFROM #tempSearch INNER JOIN dbo.profile_publicinfo ON profile_publicinfo.username = #tempSearch.usernameINNER JOIN dbo.settings_privateinfo ON settings_privateinfo.username = profile_publicinfo.usernameFULL OUTER JOIN dbo.profile_coolfacts ON profile_coolfacts.username = profile_publicinfo.username FULL OUTER JOIN dbo.profile_profilephoto ON profile_profilephoto.username = profile_publicinfo.usernameFULL OUTER JOIN dbo.settings_username ON settings_username.username = profile_publicinfo.usernameWHERE (profile_publicinfo.username IN (SELECT username FROM #tempSearch))AND #tempSearch.tempID >= @first_id'
SELECT @paramlist = '@first_id int'EXEC sp_executesql @sql, @paramlist, @first_id
I need to get the tempID from the tempSearch table in order to compare it with @first_id
When i run this i get the same username repeated like 30 times then it moves over to the next, when i debug the #tempSearch it looks fine, just the users that are suppose to be there.
Does anyone know what I have to do to get it to generate the tables? Running it doesn't even produce an error.
/3GB Not Working
May 1, 2006
Hi,
I am on a box with 4 GB of memory that only runs SQL Server. SQL Server is using 1.7 GB as per task manager. There are a lot of databases on this box. I looked at the boot.ini and /3GB was not set. I have done this at least 50 times before: turn on the /3GB switch and SQL Server will use up to 2.7 GB per task manager. (I know it is actually 2GB and 3GB but it seems that in task manager it shows up as 1.7-1.8 and 2.7-2.8)
Anyway back to the story. So I set /3GB, rebooted the server and SQL Server still only consumes up to 1.7GB. I realize that SQL Server might not actually need more memory, but I have a distinct feeling that it wants more but is being constrained; that is, the the /3GB switch is not working. More relevant information:
1) the boot.ini line:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server" /fastdetect /3GB
2) max server memory (MB) = 3000
3) min server memory (MB) = 3000
4) awe enabled = 0
5) @@version = 8.00.2039 which is SQL Server 2000 SP4
Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?
How Do I Know What I'm Working IN
Sep 26, 2007
In SQL2000 Enterprise manager, there is always an indication of WHICH server & database an object is opened from when it has focus.
So when I'm working on the same table in test and production servers I can tell at a glance what it belongs to.
I cannot seem to duplicate this in any way in SQL Manager 2005 Express which could lead to all sorts of trouble and really slows me down.
Have I missed something really simple in setup or use of the product?
TIA,
Richard
AVG Not Working
Mar 28, 2008
I would like to get the average of a field but I am not sure if I am doing it correctly.
SELECT dbo.VIEW2.Den AS Den2, CASE WHEN VIEW1.Den = VIEW2.Den THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS Den3, dbo.VIEW2.ID, AVG(dbo.VIEW2.Den) AS Den4
FROM dbo.VIEW1 CROSS JOIN
dbo.VIEW2
WHERE (dbo.VIEW2.ID = '1')
Here is the error I am getting: Column dbo.View2.Den is invalid in the SELECT list because it is not an aggregate function and there is no Group BY CLause.
Thanks for the help
