I created a report using RS with a SQL stored procedure (with date range parameters and a cursor to build the data) as the data source. When I execute the proc in SQL it returns over 300 records. When i go the the data tab on my report view the data, the proc and the preview only returns the first row. What am i doing wrong? I am new to RS.

I got it *almost* working with derived tables, but the group by function was not putting the department as one single row. I was getting multiple rows for departments.
I realize this is probably a simple answer and I am making this a lot harder than it actually is....
Any suggestions?
I'm using strongly typed datasets in my first ASP.NET 2.0 web application. I come from ASP Classic, not an earlier version of .NET, and feel like I'm in another world. I'm slowly getting my head around datasets, but one thing I can't find any information on is how to read the data in a single record?I'm not talking about for next loops, or accessing row information as a repeater or other control is filled. In the FOR NEXT loop, organization.ContactName has the right value, and it appears to be assigned to sContact correctly, but when I try to use sContact in sBody, I get an error saying that sContact has been used before it is assigned a value. Maybe the variables lose their scope outside the loop? Maybe I could get around this by building sBody inside the loop, but there has to be a better way! Diane

The query works fine and has been tested. Now I want to display this in chart format.
The display should be in a chart format, one for each area showing a bar for each RequestType.
I have placed "TotalCount" in the Data Fields section and ReqType in Category fields. How do I use the Filter to set an expression so that it displays the data in a seperate chart for each Area.
I tried using =Fields!Area.Value and set it to Area1 to display only Area1 values, however the preview shows nothing.
Plz help me out.

Hi,
I'm retreiving data from a SAP BW data source. In the dataset designer I can build a query that returns a single value, the data returns successfully in the designer. When I switch to the layout mode I can place the field of the datset in table / matrix / textbox. However when i switch to preview mode or deploy the report and try to see them in Report Manager the report fails to render with the following message:
Query Execution Failed for dataset 'XXX'
These columns don't currently have unique values.
Its a single cell datset?!?!
I can successfully retreive data from other SAP Infocubes and queries. I also cannot replicate the error using a SQL Server datasource. The stack trace error looks like this:

I want to design a report in which it will contain fields derived from 2 different stored procedures. I understand a 'table' can display data from a single dataset. How can i bind these two stored procedures into a single dataset so as when i click on the table and use its property 'DataSetName', to be able to select the dataset which holds all columns from stored proc 1 and stored proc 2. How can i link multible tables ( multible stored procedures with different column names in each one) into a single dataset to feed the report?

I'm looking to build a report that is basically a series of line charts that is plotting a value over time. Â I can accomplish this one chart/dataset at a time, but I believe with 'List's this can be achieved in a more automated fashion.If I have some data similar to this:

I have an issue in generating the report in sql reporting services. I need to display a report in a table format. The datas of the table should be from two different sql tables. I have tried to write a stored procedure that returns two result sets from two different tables. As reporting services takes datas only from the first result set, i tried to write two different stored procedures each displays one result set. Then i have created two datasets with that two different stored procedure. Even then i cannot proceed as i was not able to use two different dataset in a single table because i was setting the datasetname to one dataset, when i try to retrieve the fields from another dataset i was able to retrieve only first and count values. Then i tried using sub reports. As sub reports for a dataregion(table) repeats for every row of the main report i was not able to fetch the correct datas. Atlast i have tried combining the query using join and wrote a single stored procedure. This stored procedure returns a single result set retrieves data from two tables satisfying the conditions. The issue i am facing with this is, the first table has only one row satisfying the condition and the second table has three rows satisfying the same condition, as i am using join query for the three rows returned by the second table the first table datas are getting duplicated for the rest of the rows in the second table. As I found using join query is the only resolution for the output which I need, and also I have to avoid the duplication of the records. Hence let me know for any solutions.

What is the most efficient standalone .NET class that can hold a single disconnected record? The class must also retain column names, but other schema is not relevant (.NET data type is sufficient).If I understand System.Data.Common.DbDataRecord, it provides an interface on a DbDataReader, and has no storage of its own.I'm familiar with DataSet, is that the only .NET-standard class to do this? I have a Stored Procedure that I am calling from ADO 2.7 in Visual Basic. The process works fine when the stored procedure has records to return. However , when the recordset is return emtpy ADO does not recognize the recordset as being open and empty. For example:

When I run the Stored Procedure In QA using an ID that I know will NOT return any records the result window returns nothing. I noticed that on some of my other SP's the result window will at least return the column titles. These SP's also do not produce the 3704 error in ADO.
Is there a command or a certain method to construct my SP so that is will return enough for ADO to know that the recordset did open its just empty?
The SP is ugly looking but I will post if need be.

I am having trouble with a T-SQL query. I have three tables in a join and I need to limit the results returned by query using a group by.
All of the fields in the result group are the same except for two fields, a date field and a varchar field. What I want to achieve is to return the row that has the latest date, and I need the varchar field as that is the information I am after. The problem is if I include the varchar field in the group by, it is returned as a separate group, if I do not included it in the group by, Server: Msg 8120 (aggregate fn / group by) error occurs!
Any ideas how to get around this?

i.e. those with the latest [active-from] date, but I must have the corresponding code value.
I have tried a correlated sub query on the [active-from] field, but it is possible to have different id’s with the same [active-from] date so it did not work.
The primary key for the [coded] table is the combination of [active-from], code and [scheme]. The tables are truncated and then imported back into the SQL database from a Progress database daily, so restructuring the table(s) is not a possibility.
I have rewritten the query to "AND [ACTIVE_FROM] in (SELECT MAX([ACTIVE_FROM]) FROM CODED AND MAX([CODE]) = S.[CODE] AND MAX([SCHEME]) = S.[SCHEME]", (Which I think is the T-SQL for you query), but it returned the error "An aggregate may not appear in the WHERE clause unless it is in a subquery contained in a HAVING clause or a select list, and the column being aggregated is an outer reference."
Also I think the query need to use a Group by as the results I need returned are those with the latest [ACTIVE_FROM] date WITHIN the group of [ID]and [MARKET-ID]. I can't think of any conditions where I can filter the results in the where clause.
The [ ] in the T-SQL is to identify table names as some of the table names (from the Progress db) use characters (the "-") that are unsupported for table names in T-SQL.
I am using the group by as I want to return specific groups of results ( [ID] and [MARKET-ID] ), that have the latest active-from date. I have made a change to that posted before to illustrate:

Dataset1 pulls property id's and other sales data from a table (2014_COST) based on the user's parameters. I have set up another table (AUDITS) that I would like to use in dataset6. This table has 3 columns (Property ID's, Sales Price and Sales Date). I would like for dataset6 to pull the Property ID's that are NOT contained in the results from dataset1. In other words, I'd like the results of dataset6 to show me the property id's that are contained in the AUDITS table but which are not being pulled into dataset1. Both tables are in the same database.

I have a stored procedure attached below. It returns 2 rows in the SQL Management studio when I execute MyStorProc 0,28. But in my program which uses ADOHelper, it returns a dataset with tables.count=0.
if I comment out the line --If @Status = 0 then it returns the rows. Obviously it does not stop in
if @Status=0 even if I pass @status=0. What am I doing wrong?

i have two datasets.one dataset have old data from some other database.second dataset have original data from sql server 2005 database.both database have same field having id as a primary key.i want to transfer all the data from first dataset to new dataset retaining the previous data but if old dataset have the same id(primary key) as in the new one then that row will not transfer.

D2 is a list of data. each row in D2 has a classid. D2 may or may not have all the classids in D1. all classids in D2 must be in D1.
I want to show fields in D2 and group the data with classids in D1 and show every group as a seperate table. If no data in D2 is available for a classid, It shows a empty table.

now idIndicator and idEq was result of an other dataSet from a xml datasource...
But I don't how integrate dynamically... I try to enter a parameter via the param tab, and create and expression :

if user select all, i'll send 0 to @icompany then I need to select all records.
question 1. How can I get all records? (i think about this query select * from companyid <> 0)
if user select for example companyid = 1, i'll send 1 to @icompany and the query work fine.
question 2. How can I change the query to adopt this 2 condition?

I am faced with a common situation but there is a little twist that makes it unique and has me stumped. Hopefully someone can point me to a solution or give me enough guidance to figure it out.
Here is the situation, I am loading an XML file into a Dataset and need to update SQL tables from that Dataset but the tables are slightly different than in the DataSet. I am using C#, asp.net 2.0, visual studio 2005 and sql server 2005.
When I loaded the XML into the Dataset, the Dataset contained 19 tables. I individually loaded each table from the Dataset and determined from that which tables I needed and didn't need as well as determinined which fields I needed or not. I used this information to create my SQL tables.
Briefly, when creating the SQL tables, I used the dataset table name as the SQL table name and used the same column names as well. the only difference from the Dataset tables and SQL tables is 1 column has a different name (or to be more specific, a column exists in the datset that does not exist in the sql table and a column exists in the SQL table that does not exist in the dataset table). Also, some tables in the dataset do not exist in the sql Database.
I know that I can spin through each row of the tables I need in the Dataset and create an insert command from the row data and insert that into the SQL table but I have 11 tables to do that with. I would like to take advantage of ADO.NET and push the datset information into sql data but I am confused on how to do this.
I am confused because not all tables in the dataset are represented in the sql database and though the tablenames and most of the columns have the same name, it is not an exact fit.
Can anyone point me to a solution or give me a good game plan that I can search on to help me load my dataset info to a sql DB.

here i updating the profile according to the userID..
My doubt is how to get these various values selected in a dataset and how to retrieve from tat dataset... please friends help me out...
I am using storedprocedure for a process... i am selecting 4 variables from the stored procedure as a ouput parameters.. now please help me in working with a dataset to collect the 4 variables and read the variables from the dataset...

Would anyone have any suggestions on how to modify this procedure so that it returns only one dataset, but yet still keeps the data seperated? Or is this even possible?

i m working on ERP with VB.Net and SQLserver2005.
i have some problem with that query.
In the here is two administrator
1- administrator
2-HR administrator
in the table,code written on login srceen and query is following.
SELECT userGroupMaster.groupName FROM userGroupDetails INNER JOIN userGroupMaster ON userGroupDetails.groupName = userGroupMaster.groupName INNER JOIN UserNameMaster ON userGroupDetails.userName = UserNameMaster.UserName WHERE (UserNameMaster.UserName = '" & gl_strUserName & "')
whenever i execute it then error comes due two administrator.
I wanna use dataset in that query to read first administrator.
