I created a custom forms authentication extension following the example MS provided with the reporting services 2005 system. Now randomly I get these errors from the system in production.

The following (VB.Net) code causes exceptions at seemingly random times. Any suggestions? Not sure if the problem is in .Net's ODBC support or in Sql Native Client.
If MARS is off, usually after less than 100 loops:

System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException was unhandled ErrorCode=-2146232009 Message="ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Connection is busy with results for another command" Source="SQLNCLI.DLL" Turning MARS is on bypasses that error, so it will sometimes survive a thousand or so runs before hitting:

Usually the ".Update" triggers the exception, but sometimes the other sql commands do it. Have tried various experiments with disposing of objects immediately when finished, but no effect. Opening and closing the connection each loop seems to delay the errors, but it still happens eventually.
When I use SSIS for extract data from ssas, that means,I use mdx query.
then random error occured.
Hope some one can understand my poor English....

Hi,I need to extract randomly 5 records from the table "Questions". Now I useSELECT TOP 5 FROM Questions ORDERBY NEWID()And it works. The problem is that I need an additional thing: if SQLextracts record with ID=4, then it should not extract record with ID=9,because they are similar. I mean, I'd like something to tell SQL that if itextracts some questions, then it SHOULD NOT extract other ones. How can I do it?Thanks!Luke
We have a system that has been running for years and some of the .asp pages haven't been touched in years, but about 10 days ago the same SQL stmts that have always been there have been returning
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' Unspecified error
This is on SQL Server 2000 MDAC 2.81.1128.0 Windows 2000 SP4 IIS
The problem is this occurs at random. The statement will execute 5x, then fail once, then run 2 more times and fail again. There isn't a problem with the SQL itself as the same Select stmt will fail or pass randomly. I can also take and execute the stmt manually and it will also pass. There are about 5 places it occurs in our pages. Here is on particular example. Note that DataRS("acc_num") is a valid value and will return just fine if I manually execute it and will pass probably 75% of the time as it is, but 25% of the time will fail with above error.
CMD = "SELECT TOP 1 id, acc_num, businessType, mdCountry, cust_lec, First_Name, Last_Name FROM accounts WHERE (Acc_Num = '" & DataRS("acc_num") & "')"
AccRS.Open CMD, DBConn, adOpenForwardOnly
Not sure at all what is causing this. I've haven't been able to find anything conclusive in the SQL Profiler either.
Any ideas?
Is this the correct version of MDAC? I tried to get the latest, but it was an earlier version .1117.
I have a query that is exhibiting a strange behaviour on different databases.
I've got something like this ...
select a.col, ... from tab1 as a inner join ... union select a.col, ... from tab1 as a inner join ... order by col
I know how to fix the problem, I make the last line read "order by a.col" ... that is understood.
However, on some databases I get an error and on others I don't. All databases are on the same server instance which is sql server 2005 developer (developer version isn't relevant as it happens on customer machines too).
I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas why it is 'random'. It's as though the statement is being compiled differently on different databases ... what is influencing that ?
I'm fishing for a way to create a workaround, so if anyone has any ideas it might push me down the road of understanding why.
The real code is way too big to include here and it's not really relevant.
As a clue to what I'm looking for, if I copy the database to another database using SSIS, the resultant database doesn't cause the error despite being logically the same.
Presumably it is some physical or security difference that is causing the error to occur.
Hi i have a problem with IIS6 and MSSQL and i hope that someone canhelp me.this is the configuration:Windows 2003IIS6MSSQL 7.0 Standard EditionADO 2.5I have the following error that occur randomly when browsing mywebsites.Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005'[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]Server SQL inesistente o accessonegato.(translate from italian: Server unexisting or access denied)it occurs when users (more than one but not hundred...) browse someasp pages where there's a lot ofrecordset opening-closing acivity. The ado connection is correctlyopen once and closed at the end of the scriptand all recordset are opened as static. It also happens if a single user refreash repeatedly that pages. It seems that mssql says it doesn't exists but i think it want to sayit is too busy. However the load is not excessive and the same pages works perfectlyon a system using Windows 2000 Serverand the same version of mssql installed. One more thing ..... for some reasons that i can't control MSSQL andIIS are on the same server. Can anyone help me ? It's just a lack of performance or there is somemisconfiguaration in MSSQL (as i think...). ?Could the IIS6 application pool configuration cause this problem ?I don't know what to say....thanks in advance.

Hi all we applied Hotfix #931821 to a 64 bit machine and now we get a random Internal Report Error. Once this error occurs it usually only requires a refresh to have the report successfully execute. Has anyone else had this experience or know what I can do to fix it. The message below comes from the log file created by the error.

I'm using ASP and SQL Serv 2000. What I need to get from 2 tables (company & customers) is random 10 customers from random 20 comp. Anyone got an idea how to do this??? I've spent 2 days trying to get stored proc. or T-SQL to work, but nothing good came out of it. I can get 1 comp and 10 cust, but not a grouped list of 20 comp. w/ 10 cust. each.
I´m having some trouble with a SSIS package that I´ve been using five months or so now.
I have a package scheduled to run every 2 minutes to load data into my SQL Server instance from our mobile computer systems. This data comes is read as flat file sources. My package runs 24/7.
My problem is that this package randomly returns "An error occurred while attempting to perform a type cast". This message is then returned during maybe 3 or 4 executions of the package. The error then vanishes into thin air, without me doing anything what so ever, and execution continues. The very same file that previously returned the errors is now processed without any problems.
I have no clue why this is, but I get the feeling that there has to be a reason for these random errors. To me, the type cast error seems to indicate problems with the data source (the flat file), but since the same file suddenly get processed without errors I have no clue where to start looking.
Hello, I get errors during import process from flat files to sql table (random missing rows) when I have more files to load through a "for each loop" cycle. If one of the files is not present (because not yet generated by an other process) many of the rows present in the next file are skipped during import operation. This happens even if the "maximumErrorCount" is set to 10000. The error reported is Warning: 0x8020200F at Import File Bolle , Source_Bolle [1]: There is a partial row at the end of the file Sql 2005 has Service Pack 2 installed. Can some one help me? Thanks and regards
I use ODBC driver to perform SQLServer commands from C/C++ application.
An "INSERT INTO <table> (<column>) VALUES (NULL)" command has a random behavior in a SQL2000 Server running on WindowsXP.
The <column> in this command has 2 definitions about the NULL value :
- the NULL is accepted in the table definition, with <column> ut_oui_non NULL".
- the NULL is rejected in the type definition, with EXEC sp_addtype ut_oui_non, 'char(1)', 'NOT NULL' and a rule to check values with '0' or '1'
1/ The column definition in any explorer show the NULL from table deffinition
2/ The "INSERT INTO" is completed in SQL Query tool, used on Windows2000 and WindowsXP computers, connected to the same SQL2000 server.
3/ The "INSERT INTO" is completed in the application, running on Windows2000 with an ODBC driver to the same SQL2000 server.
4/ The "INSERT INTO" is rejected in the application, running on WindowsXP witjh an ODBC driver to the same SQL2000 server. The error 513 means that INSERT VALUES conflicts with previous rule. So only the type definition seems to be used.
But :
5/ This is a random error, and some INSERT with the same values in this column are completed.
6/ This random error seems to be discarded by using the "Use NULLs, paddings and warnings ANSI" checkbox in the ODBC driver user source configuration.
This checkbox is only use for enforcing the ANSI syntax in SQL commands, and has no known effect on type checking.
Do you know about any conflict of column NULL value between a type definition and a table definition ?
Hi there.I need to fetch ONE random row from many. How can i get it? I try toexecute "SELECT field.table FROM table ORDER by RAND()" no effect.Thank you.
Hy, I nead to make a stored procedure in order to add a random record set. This record set is used to write in an ASP page a list which is automatically modified everytime we reload the page.
I'm trying to use the following query to select two random records from my database. Do you have any ideas of why the recrand field will not change? I am using MS Sql server 7.. Please email mark@dtdesign.com ..Cheers Mark
SELECT TOP 2 mytable.id AS RECID, RAND(mytable.id) AS recrand FROM mytable ORDER BY recrand
Has anyone noticed that if you created DTS package and try to change connection properties (i.e. change DSN or redirect DTS to different server or Database), as soon you click OK it does not save new password and hence does not work anymore. In my case to move Database from Development to Production server I would have to recreate all DTS packages. Is there any way around it?
I am trying to get random numbers to have a unique value for different processes, then I can identify each process. What happens is that I use rand() function without seed, so I got my random numbers, but after shutting down SQLServer and try to get again another random number after booting up, the same series of random numbers is given again and again. So if anyone knows how I can get unique values, even though reseting the server, and using random function or any other method which automatically provides unique values,I'll really appreciate it if you let me know it.
Is there a way to write an SQL statement to choose random values from a particular select statement..for example: select * from address I was thinking, if there was a way to use an include statement for it like: select * from address where id IN ('generates some random values')
So i've got to generate these queries that go from the first of a one month to the last day of a month. the user provides the starting and ending months.
What I was wondering was is there an easy way to set the last day of the month in sql without having to go in and hard code which months end on the 30 and which ones end on the 31.
I once came across a database in which when ever a row was inserted, a unique random code was also inserted in a column. This code generated was similar to format like {8A5FE5F1-6BDA-476C-A4DB584A7710FBF91121054625}. I was told that SQL2000 has some inbuilt functionality for this.
Any idea on how to do this using SQL2000 or coding. I feel this is much better than Identity Column as using autonumbers in quesrystring is too much risky as they easily readable.
I have a table with 3 fields SiteID (PK), SiteCode, SiteName. For each SiteCode I have several rows with different SiteName. For example: 1 327 a 2 327 b 3 327 c 4 328 aa 5 328 bb......
I need to retrieve each time SiteCode with random SiteName. For example: 327 b , 327 a , 327 c 328 aa 328 bb 328 aa.
I need it very urgent, so any ideas will be very helpful. Thanks to all,
I have a customer that wants to be able to generate a random list... ----------------------- The list is case numbers, and I can get those easy enough by saying
SELECT dbo.table_case.id_number FROM dbo.table_case
Now, what I want to do is take that list and extract 1 out of every 1000, picking out random id_numbers to display.
Hi Experts , I want to insert datas randomly to all columns of a table. The columns have different datatypes like int, varchar, datetime. What to do??? It is urgent so please help.
Hi Experts , I want to insert datas randomly to all columns of a table. The columns have different datatypes like int, varchar, datetime. How to create a procedure for the same??? please help.
I used this to generate a random password. You can change what it returns to up to an 8000 character password if you feel brave. You will need this function (http://www.sqlteam.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14924) to generate the random numbers. For some reason, occassionaly a NULL (CHAR(0)) character would get in there and mess things up so I had to remove those. You could change this to even include the non alpha numeric characters.
create procedure random_password @length smallint, @password nvarchar(256) = null output as set nocount on
declare @number int declare @lower int declare @upper int declare @part tinyint
if @length > 256 set @length = 256 set @password = ''
while len(@password) < @length begin exec random_number 0, 3, @part output
set @part = null set @number = null exec random_number @lower, @upper, @number output set @password = @password + ltrim(char(@number)) if substring(@password, len(@password), 1) = char(0) set @password = left(@password, len(@password) - 1) end go
