I have a website that uses an SQL 2005 Express database, with the added aspnet_users, aspnet_roles tables etc' inside it. (That is not an .mdf file, but in the databse itself)
Are there any guidelines for moving this kind of database to the deployment server, which also has SQL Express ?
Hello, i have a table called Mail, inside of this table are all the user mailmessages, now i want to display to the user how many messages he has, should i use: SELECT count(*) FROM mailmessages WHERE (username = @UserName) or Should i create a table with a field named 'mailmessages' for every user, then in this table i update the 'mailmessages' whenever the user deletes or recieves a new message. witch is the best option to use, lets assume that we have afew million mailmessages? performace gains? fastest? (This will be displayed on every single page)
I've used ClickOne to package my desktop database application (Developed using VB 2005 Express and SQLServer 2005 Express) then installed it on another PC. Is there a way that I could modify the installed database just like I could if I used MS Access?
I just installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition to allow me to create databases in VB Express. The installation went fine (or so it seemed). When I complete the example to create a database and try to save the changes in the file, they are not retained.
I use the following statement to verify the changes have been made, but when I exit and return to the database, the changes are not made. If I make changes, the If statement correctly indicates the number of changes, but the are not saved. Any suggestions???
I want to find whether SQL Server 2005 x86 is installed or SQL Server 2005 x64 is installed programatically(Any API would do.) If anyone can recommend a registry key that I can rely on find whether it is a 32 bit or 64 bit SQL Server that would suffice.
I have two database files, one .mdf and one .ndf. The creator of these files has marked them readonly. I want to "attach" these files to a new database, but cannot do so because they are read-only. I get this message:
Server: Msg 3415, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Database 'TestSprintLD2' is read-only or has read-only files and must be made writable before it can be upgraded.
What command(s) are needed to make these files read_write?
i have a database which get refreshed every day from client's data . and we need to pull heavy data from them every day as reports . so only selects happens on that database.
we do daily population of some table in some other databases from this daily refreshed DB.
will read uncommitted or NOLOCK with select queries to retrieve data faster.
there will be no dirty read as there are NO DML operation in that database so for SELECT which happens concurrently on these tables , will NOLOCK work?
SP2 refuses to install for the Database Engine because €œthe previous upgrade did not complete€?, i.e. it detects a suspended installation. The same thing happened to me when I installed SP1. I then remember opening the maintenance dialog and completing the setup, after which SP1 installed just fine.
When I try to do the same thing this time, I€™m presented with the €?complete the suspended installation€? option, which when I run it reports the installation completed successfully. However, in reality the installation still remains in suspended mode for whatever reason. If I reboot and open the maintenance dialog, I€™m still presented with the €?complete the suspended installation€? option. I€™ve even tried to run it more than once, but it doesn€™t help. Needless to say, SP2 still refuses to install.
I don't know why the installation is in a suspended state. I know every part of SP1 installed successfully in the end, and the computer never crashed during the installation. I've been using it every day since then, without any problems. All other parts of SP2 did install successfully.
I created a feedback entry on Microsoft Connect, where you can find the log files created by Windows Installer. The URL is: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=259606

Is it possible to create a database which design or data is not needed to update and i want to set to it as a READ ONLY. what are the steps to create such type of database?
Database 'C:INETPUBDEMO.TRUTHSTONE.COMAPP_DATAASPNETDB.MDF' cannot be upgraded because it is read-only or has read-only files. Make the database or files writeable, and rerun recovery.Cannot open user default database. Login failed.Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'. Hi, Strange one. I have copied my working web-site to the production server and get this message. Tried copying new set of database files and reset the server to ensure no applications could be accessing the database files. Still get the same error. Works fine on my Visual Studio VWD Express version.
Mitch PS I am not trying to upgrade the database, just use it!
i'm an sql server beginer. i was wondering if some of you guys can help me out. i need for the sql server to be able to read an outside file (just text) and be able to run a script that will insert it in the database. it's a dcc output file. we've tried running this script:
DROP TABLE tests go DECLARE @SQLSTR varchar(255) SELECT @SQLSTR = 'ISQL -E -Q"dbcc checkdb(master)"' CREATE TABLE tests (Results varchar(255) NOT NULL) INSERT INTO tests EXEC('master..xp_cmdshell ''ISQL -E -Q"dbcc checkdb(master)"''')
and it's running good but the problem is the results of the dbcc here did not come from a file but directly after executing the dcc command. is there a way to do it?
We have a production 2012 R2 SQL server that is not part of a domain. I have a database called CSSDC. I need to backup this database and make the BAK file available to a user on a different SQL server. Security is a concern. In order for this user to restore the database, they will have to be in the fixed server role sysadmins. I know I am going to have to use the Move with replace for the filegroups for the restore. Once the database is restored it will have to be altered to read-only. I would also like to remove the existing security and only have this new user access the read-only database.
OBJECTIVE: I would like to read a text file from SQL Server 2000, read the text file content, and load its conntents in a RichTextBoxTHINGS I'VE DONE AND HAVE WORKING:1) I've successfully load a text file (ex: textFile.txt) in sql server database table column (with datatype Image) 2) I've also able to load the file using a Handler as below: using System;using System.Web;using System.Data.SqlClient;public class HandlerImage : IHttpHandler {string connectionString;public void ProcessRequest (HttpContext context) {connectionString = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NWS_ScheduleSQL2000"].ConnectionString;int ImageID = Convert.ToInt32(context.Request.QueryString["id"]);SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(connectionString);string Command = "SELECT [Image], Image_Type FROM Images WHERE Image_Id=@Image_Id";SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(Command, myConnection);cmd.Parameters.Add("@Image_Id", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int).Value = ImageID;SqlDataReader dr;myConnection.Open(); cmd.Prepare(); dr = cmd.ExecuteReader();if (dr.Read()){ //WRITE IMAGE TO THE BROWSERcontext.Response.ContentType = dr["Image_Type"].ToString();context.Response.BinaryWrite((byte[])dr["Image"]);}myConnection.Close();}public bool IsReusable {get {return false;}}}'>'> <a href='<%# "HandlerDocument.ashx?id=" + Eval("Doc_ID") %>'>File </a>- Click on this link, I'll be able to download or view the file WHAT I WANT TO DO, BUT HAVE PROBLEM:- I would like to be able to read CONTENT of this file and load it in a string as belowStreamReader SR = new StreamReader()SR = File.Open("File.txt");String contentText = SR.Readline();txtBox.text = contentText;BUT THIS ONLY WORK FOR files in the server.I would like to be able to read FILE CONTENTS from SQL Server.PLEASE HELP. I really appreciate it.
We installed SP1 for SQL Server 2014 this past weekend and got this error message in the logs. I found that if you set the db to read-write, it updates the system objects, even after SP1 has completed. Then you can set it back to read-only. I'm just posting this so other people can find it on the internet, as I wasn't able to find it specifically.
Error Log Entry:System objects could not be updated in database 'x' because it is read-only.
Problem: After installing SP1 for SQL Server 2014 you will find this message in the error logs saying read-only databases could not be updated.
Solution: Simply set the db to read-write and the system objects will get updated, long after SP1 was installed.
ALTER DATABASE [x] SET READ_WRITE WITH NO_WAIT
Then set it back to read-only:
ALTER DATABASE [x] SET READ_ONLY WITH NO_WAIT
You should then see these log entries:
System objects could not be updated in database 'x' because it is read-only. Setting database option READ_WRITE to ON for database 'x'. Starting up database 'x'. CHECKDB for database 'x' finished without errors on 2015-07-25 01:02:28.143 (local time). This is an informational message only; no user action is required. Synchronize Database 'x' (129) with Resource Database. Setting database option READ_ONLY to ON for database 'x'. Starting up database 'x'. CHECKDB for database 'x' finished without errors on 2015-07-25 01:02:29.888 (local time). This is an informational message only; no user action is required.
Hi Friends, I have a question. At my home computer i downloaded and installed VWD. As usual it also installed Sqlexpress as part of the installation(i checked the option). Later on i downloaded Management studio separately so i am fine with my home computer as every thing is free. But at work we decided to develop application using VS 2005 and Sqlserver 2005. So we bought and installed VS2005 professional edition at work and it also installed Sqlexpress during the installation as a defualt desktop engine. I am fine with that too. But i am not understing where do i get the Management studio? Is it some thing i could get it off the web for free or what? I am not sure we would have an option while installing the VS 2005 professional that also does install management studio and we need to check that option. I am not sure if we could get the management studion off the web for free and and evelop applications.
Hi I had earlier installed a SQL 2000 personal Edition and with it I also installed a database called AdventureWorks, that I was using along with a Book on Beginning T-SQL. Today I uninstalled the personal edition to install SQL 2000 Developer edition to work on Reporting Services. I install personal edition and installed the developer edition. When I started the enterprise manager, I could not see the AdventureWorks database. I reinstalled it several times but still cannot see it come up in the enterprise manager nor in the data analyzer. I can see that the database files -mdf and ldf - has installed ok in the directory C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLData but i cannot still see the database in enterprise manager. It apprears as if enterprise manager is looking at a different folder. Can someone please help? Much appreciated.
I have just installed VS 2008 SP1 and SQL Server Compact edition 3.5 SP1. Unfortunatley now, when i try to add a new CE database the option is not available in the list. All the other database types are there.
I have completely unistalled SP1 and I now get the same problem in VS2008, which worked fine before. I have reinstalled SP1 and the problem still exists.
I can connect to the database through Management studio, no problem.
I am currently writing an install wizard for my web application. One of my steps is Installing asp.net membership, roles, and session state to the new database. My wizard detects if this step has already been completed through the page_Load event. Currently I am writing makeshift code just to see if the tables exist.Does ASP.Net provide a way to detect what services have been installed on the database? So far I have only found Install and uninstall functionality in the System.Web.Management Namespace.I have been searching for this for a while, I am sure this question has been answered somewhere, but there is so much base information on how to initially set up membership that I cant seem to find the answer.
I'm taking a database(read-only) backup from one server and restoring it on other server. As soon as restore is done it is bringing database into single-user read-only mode.
why it is bringing the database into single user mode ?
I'm new to ASP.NET (I normally work with Windows Forms) and have installed the Club Website Starter Kit. I created an Administrators role and a user called "admin". When I run the project locally, everything works as it should - I can log in as admin and I can create new users. I then copied the site to localhost (C:Inetpubwwwroot), but when I run the site from localhost, I can't log in (as admin or any other user); instead I get a message that says, "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again." Also, I can't create a new user. When I try, I get the following error: Server Error in '/' Application.

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.42 I figure there must be a simple(?) explanation and solution for this problem, and ideally, some sort of step-by-step procedure that new users to ASP.NET can follow to configure a site - such as one of the starter kits - to work correctly. I can honestly say that trying to get this working has been an extremely frustrating experience. If someone could help me out, I would really appreciate it. I've been working on this for two days and feeling I have hit the wall. Thanks in advance.
Hi there,I am getting a real problem with ASP.NET 2.0, all i am trying to do is run a recovert password (using the login controls) and i got the following error.Does anybody know how to fix this? I have tried the SSEUTIL answer here and it didn't work. http://forums.asp.net/909168/ShowPost.aspxI also ensured that Network Services user has READ/WRITE/EXECUTE premissions on the directory below and that each file isn't read only and also that it inherits ACL from the directory which it seems to do..Bit of strange one this, it isn't created (and i am not using) a beta version of VS 2005 Pro... but a full retail version. The PC is the local PC with IIS 5.1 and VS installed... it is the one i am using for developing.. I don't need to copy my files to the IIS directory below as that is where i have created it and open it in VS 2005 from there..I did read that if you use IIS 5.1 then the user should be ASPNET ... but i don't seem to have that use but a Network Services user...Any help or guidance would be really appreciated... i have come to a stop stage and can't get any further..Thanksian Server Error in '/igdotcom' Application.

I have made sure that the permissions on the DB are set (in Windows) so that all users can modify. The user that is logging in to the DB has status set to DBOWNER.
I have seen others experience the same problem - with ASP.net sites, not Windows Forms sites (thus most of their solutions dont apply to me)
Any ideas on what is wrong and how I can get this to work?
I downloaded the AdventureWorks2012 OLTP script. When I ran it it gave me some errors. I also noticed that it tried to install into the bult-in master database, it created a lot of tables and objects. Some questions :
1) How can I remove everything that the script installed into master database? 2) Do I need to create 1st an empty database and then run the script there? 3) I am running the script from a custom path (C:DownloadsMicrosoft SQL Server 2012AdventureWorks 2012 OLTP Script.zipAdventureWorks 2012 OLTP Script) not sure if this is causing some of the errors as the script, in the beggining has a path to other folders :
:setvar SqlSamplesDatabasePath  "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL11.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATA" -- NOTE: Change this path if you copied the script source to another path :setvar SqlSamplesSourceDataPath "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL11.MSSQLSERVERToolsSamplesAdventureWorks 2012 OLTP Script"
4) Final question, I also downloaded the AdventureWorks 2012 simple database (AdventureWorks2012_Data.mdf). Is this file the same database as the one created by the OLTP script?
getting this error after publishing my site to local IIS, then trying my signup page. Failed to update database "C:INETPUBWWWROOTAPP_DATAASPNETDB.MDF" because the database is read-only. have tryed to change the attributes, still not working. have given write access to the APP_DATA folder from IIS, still not working. and i cannot delete the APP_DATA folder from IIS, it says it is being used by another process or program. how to fix this? and or delete the folder?
