Send Mail Task Problem Using A Combination Of ForEach Loop, Recordset Destination, Execute SQL Task And Script Task

Jun 21, 2007

OK. I give up and need help. Hopefully it's something minor ...

I have a dataflow which returns email addresses to a recordset.

I pass this recordset into a ForEachLoop configuring the enumerator as (Foreach ADO Enumerator). I also map the email address as a variable with index 0.

I then have a Execute SQL task which receives this email address as a varchar variable (parameter 0) which I then use in my SQL command to limit the rows returned. I have commented out the where clause and returned all rows regardless of email address to try to troubleshoot this problem. In either event, I then use a resultset to store the query result of type object and result name 0.

I then pass this resultset into a script variable to start parsing the sql rows returned as type object. ( I assume this is the correct way to do this from other prior posts ...).

The script appears to throw an exception at the following line. I assume it's because I'm either not passing in the values properly or the query doesn't return anything. However, I am certain the query works as it executes just fine at the command prompt.

Try

ds = CType(Dts.Variables("VP_EMAIL_RESULTS_RS").Value, DataSet)

My intent is to email the query results to each email address with the following type of data by passing the parsed data from the script to a send mail task. Email works fine and sends out messages but the content is empty. I pass the parsed data as string values to the messagesource and define the messagesourcetype as a variable in the mail task.

part number leadtime

x 5

y 9

....

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

thanks

John

SSIS Send Mail Task - Failure Sending Mail

Jun 8, 2006

Hi Everyone,

Hopefully someone out there will have an idea as this is driving me nuts.

I've setup a task to email on success/failure and keep receiving the following message when executed:

Progress: The SendMail task is initiated. - 0 percent complete
[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail.".
Progress: The SendMail task is completed. - 100 percent complete
Task Send Mail Task failed

When I configure Outlook Express on the same machine with the same settings it works.

On the SMTP Connection Manager I have left the default name, tested with both an IP address and Server Name, and no authentication or SSL.

On the Send Mail Task, it uses the above connection. The To: , From: , Subject fields are populated. Message SourceType is DirectInput, MessageSource is Test, Priority is Normal and no attachments or expressions etc.

Nothing useful is logged in the Event Viewer even with full logging turned on.

Any suggestions appreciated,

Thanks.

Reading Mail Without Xp_readmail

Oct 18, 2007

Guys, I've been Googling for quite some time now. Is there a way to read mail from SQL Server without using the soon to be deprecated "xp_readmail" and XP Mail procedures.

Apparently Database Mail lacks this too. I'm looking into SSIS however there doesn't seem to be a simple solution.

Error Sending Mail With Send Mail Task

Feb 6, 2008

I keep getting a generic "Error Sending Mail" error. For testing purposes I am just trying to send using my own email account. What goes in the SMTP Server box in the connection manager? I have tried:

A - the exchange server address (SOMETHING.us.company.com)
B - The SMTP properties I see when I look at the properties of my email address: (my.name@abcd.efgh.company.com)
C - Just the end portion of the SMTP properties: (abcd.efgh.company.com)
D - My email address (my.name@company.com)

I don't know what to enter, or what is giving me such a generic error message.

Sending Mail To Several Users With Send Mail Task ?

Nov 10, 2006

I know you can specify additional recipients in the To column by sepperating them with a semicolon. But whats the easiest way to send to several users, when the email address must be retrieved from a table with a query like this:

select email from problem_subscribers

where project = 'project1'

and statusmail = 'OnError'

So when the eventhandler gets an OnError i want the mail task to be sent to each problemsubscriber.

Reading Mail On SQL 2005 64bit

Hi all.

We have a problem with our SQL2000 32 bit to SQL2005 64 bit migration where we use
xp_readmail to check mailboxes for new messages containing incoming
data. This is no longer supported in SQL2005 64 bit edition. Are there any other
methods for checking mail in SQL2005 64 bit edition?

p.s. We're connecting to Exchange Server 2003

FTP Task Reading From Multiple Subdirectories?

Jan 29, 2008

Hi,

I'm looking to copy multiple files from multiple subfolders within a directory via ftp.

So our FTP server will have a /Logs directory with multiple subfolder reprisenting different machines
So you may have /Logs/M_987, /Logs/M_123, etc, etc... the number of machines is variable as they can be added or removed.

And I'm trying to make an import routine that will go through all the subfolders on a remote machine and FTP the log files contained within them over to a local machine for importing.

The one thing i'm struggling on is making the FTP Task loop through remote folders and copy all *.log files.

I can get it working on a single folder within /Logs but need a way to "wildcard" the subfolders or loop through all subfolders within /Logs?

Thanks.

SSIS Script Task Reading Variables In Vb.net DTS

Dec 15, 2006

I'm trying this code in a script task inside a foreach loop that gets a file in a foreach file enumerator and maps it to a variable FileName.
In the script task I'm setting the ReadOnlyVariables to @[User::FileName]
: Imports System.IO Imports System Imports System.Data Imports System.Math Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime
Public Class ScriptMain
Public Sub Main()         Dim fname As String = CType(Dts.Variables("FileName").Value, String)         File.Move(fname, fname + ".processed")         Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success     End Sub
End Class
But now getting this error:
Error: Failed to lock variable "\xxxxDataf1.csv" for read access with error 0xC0010001 "The variable cannot be found. This occurs when an attempt is made to retrieve a variable from the Variables collection on a container during execution of the package, and the variable is not there. The variable name may have changed or the variable is not being created.".

As you can see the variable does appear to be resolving.

I do have this reference and have used it in VB and C# app's

Custom Task And Reading Package Configuration

Oct 27, 2006

Hello All,

I have searched on this forum for a similar question but couldn't find it so I apologize if this has been asked. If so, I'd greatly appreciate a link to the question. I have created a custom task and am trying to read an xml package configuration file within my custom task. To be more specific, I have added an ADO.Net Connection to my database onto the package and have generated the appropriate tags within my package's configuration xml file. I'm not seeing the classes I should use to access the configuration file of the package I've created. Does anybody have any ideas how I can accomplish this or a link to a document that might cover the material? Thanks!

The Task Send Mail Task Cannot Run On This Edition Of Integration Services. It Requires A Higher Level Edition.

Aug 6, 2007

I have a developer here that created an SSIS package that contains a Send Mail Task. When this developer runs the package in the Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) the send mail task runs without issue. But when he tries to run it using command line and the DTEXEC program it errors out with the following error message:

Error: 2007-08-01 15:57:44.37

Code: 0xC0012024

Description: The task "Send Mail Task" cannot run on this edition of Integration Services. It requires a higher level edition.

End Warning

DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_FAILURE (1).

Here are the details of his machine:
Visual Studio 2005 Version: 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600)

Under the Installed Products section it reads:
SQL Server Integration Services version: 9.00.3042.00

Once we promoted the package to a production server it runs fine. I can also run the same package from my machine without issue. So, I'm pretty sure that it's specific to his machine, but I have no idea where to start looking.

Any deas where this error comes from?

Send Mail Task - Succeeds But Does Not Send Mail

Nov 28, 2007

I have attempted to report out errors at the end of an ETL process by alerting supporting DBAs of errors using the SSIS "Send Mail Task". Task completes along with the sequenced packages, but does not mail anything out. No logic at this time for trigger, just success from the previous task triggering the task to send mail. I also get no errors in the output, and I get no output indicating the send mail task fired, but it does go "green". Do I have to enable database mail and have privileges?

Component Configuration:

SMTP Connection Manager - SMTP Server: arsocex02

Send Mail Editor -

From: messerj@arsocdev.bdev.lab.mil
To: sanderss@arsocdev.bdev.lab.mil
MessageSourceType: Direct Input
Expression: MessageSource = "Package>>> " + @[System:ackageName] +" was executed at>>> " + (DT_WSTR, 40) @[System:tartTime] + " by user>>> " + @[System::UserName] + " on Machine>>> " + @[System::MachineName] + " Errors reported to ERRORS_COURSE_CLASS_STATUS_T: " + (DT_WSTR, 50) @[User::ErrorCourseClassStatus]

Mail Task Question

Apr 10, 2008

is there a possibility to send text and variables within a message source of a mail task? because i can only choose between text or variable. i've already tried using @[User::variableName] but that doesn't work. The only way i can think of is building the message text in a separate script task before the mail task, store the message text in a variable and then use this variables as messagesource. is there a better way?

Error In Send Mail Task

Sep 20, 2006

I have a script task in which I check the size of a file.

If the size of a file is greater then 0 KB then I need to send this file as an attachment using send email task.

If size is equal to 0 KB then I don't want to send email at all.

In the script task, I have a flag(@sFileExists) which i set to true in case of size of file greater then 0 and false in other case.

I am using a precedance constraint (Expression : @sFileExists=true) and condition is logical AND.

After script task based on the condition (@sFileExists=true) I am using the send email task for sending the email.

But I am not receiving the email. Please sugest where I am wrong.

Please note that the send email task is working all-right separately.
