Reading Multiple Worksheets From A Spreadsheet With A Single OLEDB Connection Manager(Excel).
Oct 4, 2007
Hi all,
Any idea about how to configure/read multiple worksheets from a spreadsheet using single connection manager?
I think using SQL Command we could able to do - not sure how to achieve that. Let me know the other alternatives too.
Is there a limit to the number of fields that can be set in an OleDB Update Statement?
This works with 6 fields: cmd.CommandText = "Update [Sheet2$A2:AP2] Set F1 = '1', F2 = '35062', F3 = '6', F4 = '620000.0000', F5 = '200000.0000', F6 = '700000.0000'"
This Fails with 7 fields: cmd.CommandText = "Update [Sheet2$A2:AP2] Set F1 = '1', F2 = '35062', F3 = '6', F4 = '620000.0000', F5 = '200000.0000', F6 = '700000.0000', F7 = '123'"
The range should be plenty big with A2:AP2. In the end I'm trying to push 42 fields.
The complete segment is:
Dim ExcelConnection As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _ "Data Source=" & ExcelFileName & ";" & _ "Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=NO""" Dim conn As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(ExcelConnection) Dim cmd As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand()
Hi All, I've a requirement from business users where they want to generate multiple work-sheets in single excel file, based on report that is being displayed to them.
We will be aware before-hand about on what parameter basis part of report should go to new worksheet.
I'm stuck on this one. I've got this package working for dynamic output based on an XML statement (yea!!!). It's actually a really simple package that has a few execute sql tasks and an xml task. I pass in a sql statement and get out raw xml that I use in the xml task and I use an XSL file to combine the xml into an excel document. My next obstacle is how to handle multiple worksheets in the same spreadsheet. Given the following code, xsl and xml, what changes would I need to make excel recognize that there is more than one worksheet?
I am retrieving some data that contains three or four hundred thousand rows. These rows are supposed to go into an excel file with multiple worksheets, since one Excel worksheet cannot handle rows that are more than 65536. Below is what I need to achieve:
Dynamically create mutiple worksheets. Re-direct data like this i.e. first 64K in first worksheet and next 64K in next worksheet and so on. Dynamically name the work sheet with the start value in that work sheet e.g. OrderNumber or OrderDate.
We use to get SSRS report through mail in the form of excel multiple tabs. We have 4-5 tabs. We need to delete one of that tab from processing. How can I delete that tab without come into the excel tab
I need to export around 1 million records to excel. As we know that there is a limit of approx 65,000 rows in one worksheet so the exporting functionality is failing. One way is that I should be able to configure the Reporting Service in such a way so that once 65,000 records gets populated in the first worksheet, then the rest 35,000 records gets popultaed in the second worksheet.
I am not able to find out how this can be achieved in Reporting Services. Please help me in this.
I have excel files where the column headers I care about are on line 5, and the actual data doesn't begin until line 6. Other than deleting the first 4 lines, which is impractical, how can I get the Excel Connection Manager to import the data correctly? I was able to do this under DTS, so I have to imagine it's possible.
I am using SSIS 2005 on Windows 2003 server. Using Excel Source to dump the data for staging database. I am getting following error while I execute it through BI studio's execute button.
I have deployed my packages into Sql Server and I am using Configuration File. As my Data Source is Excel, I have changed the connection string during deployment with Server Path. But I am getting the following errors. Actually the File Exist in Path. May I know What is cause of the issue? Do I need to give any permission to execute the package.
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel Connection Manager" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.
component "Excel Source Service Contract Upload" (1) failed validation and returned error code 0xC020801C.
One or more component failed validation.
There were errors during task validation.
DTS_E_OLEDBERROR, Error Code: 0x80004005 Source: "MS JET DB Engine" Description : Path is not valid
I have an SSIS package that I need to modify. It was developed in Visual Studio 2005 and runs faithfully in production on SQL Server 2005. Suddenly, I can't open the package on my own workstation. I see a big red "X" image and a message stating "Microsoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document." The real reason the document can't be loaded appears to be:
Error loading DataWarehouseLoader.dtsx: The connection type "OLEDB" specified for connection manager "Warehouse Logging OLE DB" is not recognized as a valid connection manager type. This error is returned when an attempt is made to create a connection manager for an unknown connection type. Check the spelling in the connection type name.
Does anyone know what causes this and what I can do? The package has been in production for 9 months and I've never seen this problem before.
I have a package that uses a for loop to iterate through an unknown amount of excel files and pull their data into a table. However, there will be cases when the file is corrupted or has some sort of problem so that either the transformation will fail or the excel data source will fail with an oledb connection error. Could anyone suggest a clean way to trap these errors? Specifically, the "Cannot Aquire Connection from Connection Manager", which is the excel connection.
I've created an excel spreadsheet with a data connection. This data connection uses a query that runs against a read-only database.
The issue I'm having is that the query never seems to finish running against the database, whether I open the Excel spreadsheet to view the data or run the query in SSMS.
I created the connection on the Data ribbon by going to From Other Sources --> From SQL Server and using the Data Connection Wizard.
Is there some kind of setting or property I'm missing that would allow this query to finish running?
I am working on SQL Server 2005 (x64) with Windows Server 2003 (x64) operating system. I am having a major issue in SSIS. Here is the detailed explanation of the issue :
I have an EXCEL file in 2003 / 2007 version. It contains some data. I want to import the data using SSIS into SQL Server 2005 (x64) database table. I have taken "EXCEL FILE SOURCE" and "SQL Server DESTINATION". It was failed on importing data. Surprisingly it works fine in SQL Server 2005 (x32). Can you please explain why it is NOT woking on (x64) ?
Here is the error code i am getting:
[Excel Source [1]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel Connection Manager" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
[One day I will come back here and answer questions, rather than only ask.]
I have a custom connection manager that returns an OleDbConnection. The only thing "custom" about the connection manager is how it determines its connection string. The object returned in AcquireConnection is an OleDbConnection.
OleDbConnection oleDbConnection = new OleDbConnection(this.connectionString); oleDbConnection.Open();
return oleDbConnection; }
Some of the objects within SSIS only work with an OleDbConnection, but mine is not recognized as such. Is there any way to have my connection recognized as a valid connection?
I am getting the following error when trying to EDIT a OLEDB Connection Manager. I am using VS2010. Im not coming up with any answers to this problem. I just reinstalled SQL SERVER CLIENT TOOLS 2012 That includes the SQL DATA TOOLS/VS 2010 But I still receive this error.
Error:Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed. (System.Data)
I am trying to dynamically change my initial catalog in a SSIS project. Each day I get a snapshot of data from the production server. I am performing ETL on that database and loading it into my warehouse. I am trying to put something together so that each day I get the latest snapshot and if its newer then my most recent one I pass that new catalog into the connection manager. I can already run the sql script to compare the two catalogs but I can't populate the connection manager.
I have an SSIS package which takes input from Flat file and transfer the data to SQL Server using OLEDB Destination Data Flow Item. The OLEDB Connection Manager used for the destination is configured to use SQL Server Authentication for the user €˜sa€™. The package works fine without enabling the configurations. But when I enable package configuration and save the configuration of the various connection managers in an XML configuration file and then run the package it gives the following error in the validation phase: [OLE DB Destination [21]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "<Connection Manager Name>" failed with error code 0xC0202009. And after the validation phase is complete the following error message is given for the package execution: [Connection manager "<Connection Manager Name>"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E4D. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client€? Hresult: 0x80040E4D Description: "Login failed for user 'sa'." Has anyone else run into this? I am running SQL 2005 9.0.1399 and VS 2005 8.0.50727.42 (RTM.50727.4200) on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1. Any suggestions would be welcome. TIA, Robinson
I have a question regarding which expressions need to be set to have the excel connection manager be able to create/update a file dynamically. I'm reading a path in from a database and storing it in a variable. The path is just the location of an excel file. What I would like to have happen is that the excel connection manager be dynamic so that if I wanted to change where this file went or the name I could simply change the value in the database.
I've tried setting the expressions, in the Excel connection Manager: ConnectionString,ExcelFilePath, and Servername to the variable \pathfolderfile.xls with no luck. The ConnectionString seems to be a little funny because it contains Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data source = ; Extended Properties =; HDR=YES", so I don't know if I can just use that expression and ignore the others or what.
Hi, I've got a small problem with an excel connection manager. Below is the series of error messages I receive:

So from the message I'm assuming that somewhere in the package configuration its missing the path to be able to find the Excel spreadsheet in question. But when opening up the package configuration I can't see anything immediately wrong. For the path of the spreadsheet location I've used the full UNC path instead of any mapped drive locations I've being guilty of using in the past. Below is the Excel Connection Manager section of my configuration file:
I've checked the rest of the configuration file and wherever something needs a username and password, they are entered correctly. I've also made sure that the account I'm logged onto our server and running the package under can access the excel file in question with no issues.
What is abit strange is that I have another package that runs in a similar way and also uses an Excel Connection Manager but from a different folder in the same area and that runs fine. I've tried to compare the 2 sets of connection managers to see if I can spot the difference but I've been unable to so far. Al that I can see that is different is the folder winningproject somtimes being in lowercase and then sometimes having capitals, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
I'm hoping a fresh pair of eyes will be able to spot something obvious that I've missed!! Below is the Excel Connection Manager section of the configuration file I have that works fine.:
Hi all, I have a huge data set captured in excel file which contains 90 worksheets. There are total 3 worksheets I need to work on.
I need to load/transfer them into a table. How do I import them into SQL? Can SQL read/load excel by reading each worksheet (sheet1, sheet2...sheet90)?
Any suggestions are welcome and highly appreciated!
I need to pull data from an Excel Workbook (DTS Excel Source) where the data is stored in worksheets that are each named one of the twelve months of the year. The package is fired by a job that runs once a month. Currently, I have to go into the select statement of the Excel source before the process runs and change the name of the Worksheet that the data is pulled from.
How can I set up the sql statement for the Excel source so that I can pull from the Worksheet that contains the name of the current month?
I am following the samples in the online books. I've got an OLEDB connection manager and source component defined. I now want to create an Excel connection manager and destination component (see below). How can I do this?
Dim conMgr As ConnectionManager = package.Connections.Add("OLEDB")
I have a package that uses a for loop to iterate through an unknown amount of excel files and pull their data into a table. However, there will be cases when the file is corrupted or has some sort of problem so that either the transformation will fail or the excel source will fail.
I have it so that for each iteration if the transform was successful the file is moved to an archive directory, and if it fails the file is moved to a different directory.
But I don't want the package to be marked as failed. For the control flow tasks I have set the individual components to FailPackageonFailure = False, and for the Data Flow tasks I have set ValidateExternalMetadata = False.
It no use to set the MaxErrorCount higher because I can't guarantee how many files will be processed and how many might fail.
Could anyone suggest a clean way to trap these errors? Specifically, the "Cannot Aquire Connection from Connection Manager", which is the excel connection.
I have an exiting excel workbook say master.xls. Now I need to dynamically create and append a new worksheet to the above master.xls every month end using the Reporting services.
Could you please guide me how dynamically creating the worksheets task can be achieved using the reporting services?
Your any guidance or help in this matter will be highly appreciated.
I am having some issues with dts packages i have migrated using the package migration wizard.
One of the connection managers points to an execl flat file source.
I have not altered anything after the package migration, the conenction manager is using Native OLE DBMicrosoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
When i test the connection i get the following error :
"Test connection failed becuase of an error in initializing provider. Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by anotehr user."
Ok i am 99% sure this file is not being accessed by another user, the rest of the error is greek to me. Looking on the net for this error it has to do with access database security and having to sertup htm pages for IIS, i cannot findanything on this error relating to ssis connection manager.
