Let's imagine some situation in MS SQL 2005:
Table t_sample with single column SampleString of type varchar(200). If to this column will be inserted value containing 4 chars, real record (not column) size in database would be 4 or 200? In other words: do MS SQL 2005 records have always constant size (total size of all columns max sizes) or real size of record depends on actual size of inserted data?
Following all threads here and I am still puzzled. Seems to me that although SQL Server Management studio will support an .sdf bigger than 128mb, the Visual Studio IDE will not. See following thread which is inconclusive: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1621879&SiteID=1
So, what gives SQLCE team? Am I supposded to magically produce some small footprint derivative .sdf just to connect with VS data connection in server explorer or under data source? Even if you go at this in the application code, it's still not working. My test platform .sdf is 450mb and that is as trim as I can make it and still do real world develpment against it. My production .sdf will be just over 2gb so I need to know if this is limitation of working with SQLCE 3.1 or not.
Please give some definitive advice. here is my current my.settings connection string: Data Source ="|DataDirectory|SmallMouth.sdf";Password="password";max database size=4000;
It works fine for a 100mb .sdf, but not the 450mb .sdf. TIA
,I am creating a database where each record is required to have a twin record in the database. These is a type a value and a type b value and both must be present for the record to be valid.
Customer_ID, Order_Type, Product_Code 54, a, 00345 54, b, 00356
Is this something that would have to be done programmatically, or is it possible to create a constraint of some sort to ensure this?
How do I calculate the Record size? I mean the Row size for each table. I heard that there are formulas to do that and the calculation is different for Fixed lenght Columns and Variable length Columns.
I need to calculate the record size for nearly 500 tables. This will help me to decide on the DISk capacities.
Suggest me if any scipts or calculations already available.
Hi,In MS SQL Server, while creating the table, I am getting a warningmessage saying like "maximum row size can exceed allowed maximum sizeof 8060 bytes".Is there any way in SQL Server, to increase this allowed maximum rowsize? The setting like "set ANSI_WARNINGS OFF" is not suitable in my case. Ineed creation of table with around 11000 bytes in the record (Summationof precision of all the columns). And more over, I do not want to looseany data (truncation) in inert operation to keep on the whole recordsize to 8060B.Thanks a lot in advance.Ramakrishna.
I need a query to know (calculate) the size used by a record in a field by table, I was tried with the follow query (but this only show me the max length of the data type):
SELECT c.name AS column_name ,c.column_id ,t.name AS type_name ,c.max_length ,c.precision ,c.scale FROM sys.columns AS c JOIN sys.types AS t ON c.user_type_id=t.user_type_id WHERE c.object_id = OBJECT_ID('dbo.bloqueos_2005') ORDER BY c.column_id; GO
I was tried whit the system views that contains column info, but no one give me the correct information.
If any one have the query or know some way to do this, please help me.
I want to calculate average row size of a record. By based on this i want to add some more columns into an existing table. Here is my table structureCREATE TABLE patient_procedure( proc_id int IDENTITY(1,1) CONSTRAINT proc_id_pri_key PRIMARY KEY, patient_id int NULL, surgeon_name varchar(40) NOT NULL, proc_name varchar(20) , part_name varchar(30), wth_contrast int , wthout_contrast int , wth_wthout_contrast int, xray_part varchar(60), arth_area varchar(30), others varchar(30) , cpt varchar(20) , procedure_date smalldatetime NOT NULL, mraloperrun varchar(20),CONSTRAINT patientid_foreign_key FOREIGN KEY(patient_id) REFERENCES dbo.patient_information (Patient_id)) Now i got a requirement that i have to add two more procedures with different columns. The columns overall size is 195 bytes.I can place those two procedures as seperate tables. I dont want to do that becuase of front end requirements. Here the problem is when the user enters these two procedures information remaining fields will store the null value. I know that when we store the null values into corresponding columns min of 1 byte will be occupied. Please suggest me that shall i include these columns into the above table. If i add these columns is performance will be decreased or not. Waiting for valuable suggestions.
Regarding the code/db from the REAL project that just got released, I have no problem attaching the "REAL Sample V6" database, but the "REAL Warehouse Sample V6" database requires ENTERPRISE edition, because the default copy uses Partitioning (i.e. the PT version, although the document stated that the multi-table (MT) version is the default). I only have the STANDARD edition of SQL 2005, is there a workaround?
HiI’m abut developing a website that has a 200 megabytes SQL database ,in my estimation the maximum online users are 100 users for first year , I want to make shore a SQL express 2005 database in good enough for my purpose. Another question is how much can I count on a SQL express 2005 database? I mean how much it could be grown and abut security (I mean is it as secure as SQL server?). Thanks.
Created a maintenance plan to backup my sharepoint databases. When I execute it the following error occurs: Execution failed. See the maintenance plan and SQL Server Agent job history logs for details: Additional Information: Job 'SharePointBackUp.Backup_SharePoint faild. (SqlManagerUI) - Execute maintenance plan. SharePointBackUP (Error) Messages * Execution failed. See the maintenance plan and SQL Server Agent job history logs for details.
When checking the Maintenance PlansharePointBackUP log it is empty! Under Job History I thinks this: Date 4/18/2008 12:55:35 PM Log Job History (SharePointBackUP.Backup_SharePoint) Step ID 1 Server DESD7 Job Name SharePointBackUP.Backup_SharePoint Step Name Backup_SharePoint Duration 00:00:00 Sql Severity 0 Sql Message ID 0 Operator Emailed Operator Net sent Operator Paged Retries Attempted 0 Message Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: line(1): Syntax error). The step failed. line 1? Is that line one of the T-SQL statement? Because if that's the case then it's not because I copied and pasted the line in to a query and it executed without error. Under SQL Agent there are no entries! So what bloody log am I suppose to be checking?! This is very frustrating. I then copied and pasted every sql statement in to a query and THEY all ran just fine.
What's going wrong here, and how can I correct it?
Hi, i use this script that show me the size of each table and do the sum of all the table size.
SELECT X.[name], REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[rows]), 1), '.00', '') AS [rows], REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[reserved]), 1), '.00', '') AS [reserved], REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[data]), 1), '.00', '') AS [data], REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[index_size]), 1), '.00', '') AS [index_size], REPLACE(CONVERT(varchar, CONVERT(money, X.[unused]), 1), '.00', '') AS [unused] FROM (SELECT CAST(object_name(id) AS varchar(50)) AS [name], SUM(CASE WHEN indid < 2 THEN CONVERT(bigint, [rows]) END) AS [rows], SUM(CONVERT(bigint, reserved)) * 8 AS reserved, SUM(CONVERT(bigint, dpages)) * 8 AS data, SUM(CONVERT(bigint, used) - CONVERT(bigint, dpages)) * 8 AS index_size, SUM(CONVERT(bigint, reserved) - CONVERT(bigint, used)) * 8 AS unused FROM sysindexes WITH (NOLOCK) WHERE sysindexes.indid IN (0, 1, 255) AND sysindexes.id > 100 AND object_name(sysindexes.id) <> 'dtproperties' GROUP BY sysindexes.id WITH ROLLUP) AS X ORDER BY X.[name]
the problem is that the sum of all tables is not the same size when i make a full database backup. example of this is when i run this query against my database i see a sum of 111,899 KB that they are 111MB,but when i do full backup to that database the size of this full backup is 1.5GB,why is that and where this size come from?
I am trying to resize a database initial log file from 500M to 2M. I€™m using€?
ALTER DATABASE <DBNAME> MODIFY FILE ( NAME = <DBLOGFILENAME, SIZE = 2 ) "
And I'm getting "MODIFY FILE failed. Specified size is less than current size." I tried going into the database properties and setting the log file to 2M, but it doesn€™t keep the changes.
I need to write a process to get file size in kb and record count in a file. I was planning on writing a c# console app that takes the file path and name as a param however should i use a CLR?
I cant put a script in the ssis when it's bringing the file down because it has been deemed that we only use ssis for file consumption.
Hi, I am using exec sp_helpdb go dbcc sqlperf(logspace) for getting database size and log size. Is this gives the correct database size and log size or Is there any other way to get the logsize and database size by means of query analyzer.
I'm getting this error while trying to insert records into a SQL Server Compact Edition database. I have pasted my connection string that was used when creating the database as well as for accessing that same database from my Windows application.
Thanks for any help any of you can give!
Data Source=OnTheGo.sdf;Encrypt Database=True;Password=<password>;Max Database Size=4091
I am developing a smart device application with Visual Studio .Net 2005 and SQL Server Compact Edition database. And also using merge replication to synchronize the data from the mobile device to the SQL Server.
My database size is around 350MB. So when I am trying to synchronize this is the error message that I get. " The database file is larger than the configured maximum database size. The setting takes effect on the first concurrent database connection only.[Required Max Database size ( in MB; 0 if unknown)=129].
I tried changing the Max database size in the connection string and my connection string looks as follows and still did not have any luck.
Hi guys, may I know is it possible to create an update trigger like this ? Assuming there are two database, database A and database B and both are having same tables called 'Payments' table. I would like to update the Payments records on database A automatically after Payments records on database B had been updated. I can't use replication because both tables might having different records and some records are the same. Hope can get any assistance here, thank you.
hi my database on remote server i cannot access directly. i can access it only with query analyzer. my log file size is 9mb but nothing in database. only few tables there so how i can reduce log file size with query.
We have a SQL server database most time for read only because the data source comes from another database( which is not SQL server database, now it is about 2G). Every day we have a job running as following: Step 0. extra the data from another database, and create plain text files for each table for BCP job. Step 1. drop all of the index Step 2. truncate all of the tables. Step 3. BCP in all of the data from plain text file. Step 4. create all of the index again Step 5. shirnk the database.
Everything runs fine but the database grows 1 G from yesterday's database. I am sure we do not have so much data entry in one day. Any one can give some suggestion? I wonder if I need do shirnk the database or shirnk the data file before create the index. How can know how much size for all of the index file? Thank you very much. Judy
I am a beginner with sql and I have been inputting data (txt files) to my database and now have approached 4GB in size and it will not let me expand any further on the primary file group. My 'boss' said that sql has no size. I am using desktop
Is there a stored procedure that returns the current size of a database, and the maximum size of a database whose growth property IS NOT set to unlimited?
When I run sp_spaceused on my database it give me a total size of 258MB The backup of this database reads 226MB The Properties screen tells me that my data is a total of 278MB I am running SQL 7.0 . Why am I getting different sizes?
I have a simple question, why Am I running out of space with my current 3.5GB database, I am constantly expanding it, yet when I dump the database nightly the dump is just around 1.5GB?
Newbie here ....I started with a datbase of 90 megs...it now grew to 300 megs in 2 months...what is the best way to see the largest table or to find out why this database grew so fast? Thanks!
