Receiving Error Message SERVER FAILED TO CONFIGURE THE SERVER.
May 24, 2005
I installed Micrsoft Server Desktop Engine from the CD I received in
my ASP.net book. The installation went fine and then I went to the DOS
prompt and did the "setup SAPWD..." and it ran. I restarted my computer and
opened ASP Matrix and went to the Data tab and proceed to connect to
the server. It gave me an error message it couldn't connect.
So I
uninstalled MSDE and made sure the sql2ksp3 folder was gone. So I went
ahead and installed the MSDE again from the CD again and then went to
DOS
to do the setup. It ran through the setup until the very end with 11
seconds remaining and received error message " Setup failed to
configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup logs for
more information. I have tried it several times and it always
stops around 11 seconds. I have tried to install the download from
microsoft.com
instead the CD and that didn't work also. So at this point I
am stuck. PLEASE HELP!
I also checked my Registry keys for a file called PendingFileRenameOperations and it wasn't in the registry keys.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
Error message: Setup failed to configure the server
I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition on a 2nd workstation in our area for development and practice with having this 2nd workstation as a "local" (test) SQL Server box. The install fails with the above mentioned message. (We have a database running in production on SQL Server 2000 and we need a place to simply copy the database and run tests on it)
The target PC is running WInXP Pro-SP3 and has IIS installed, along with Visual Studio 2005 & .Net framework, etc.
I downloaded it (via MSDN license) and accepted the defaults on the install.
I downloaded this program, and when trying to intall I am receiving an error meesage that there is insufficient disk space to install.
I have 98GB available on C and 107 GB available on D. I am on an IBM Intellistation dual processor 3,08 Ghz with 4GB RAM and 240 GB Disk (those are "G"'s), so I have tons of capacity. This has to be a problem with the .msi - any suggestions?
While attempting to configure DTC on a Windows xp Pro, SP 2 machine I receive the error message [DTC was installed by the SQL Server. Please reinstall!] Where do I find this installation file to complete the requested task -- any help would be awesome -- I have tried down loading hotfixes, and security updates that mention fixing problems with DTC -- but alas they did not fix my error ;-)
Can anyone give a quick description of the meaning of this message andwhat needs to be done to get a connection.I'm running DBArtisan with SQLServer 2000 client SP4 installed.I also get the same message with MS Enterprise Manager so this iscoming out of the actual ODBC connection attempt. Thanks in advance!
We've devoted a resource to this today, but I have to believe it's something easy that we're overlooking. The scneario is that we have a production Web application that until last weekend had a SQL 2000 back end. This weekend we installed a new instance of SQL 2005 and everything works (we tested in a sandbox environment, but someone must not have load tested enough) and never saw these exceptions. So, after the upgrade we now receive 100's of thexe SQL excptions per day:A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)Does anyone know what we've overlooked that's causing this issue? Thanks for any help!
Hi I am trying to install SQL server 7 on XP. I did not install any prerequisite such as service pack 4. During the installation process, I received a error message that says:
'Setup fail to configure the server. Refer to server errorlog and cnfigsvr.out for more information. '
In Errorlog file, the last part of it says:
. . . SQL server's unicode collation is: 'English' (ID =1033) Comparison style =196609
SQL server's non-unicode sort order is: 'no case_iso'(ID=52)
SQL servers non-Unicode character setn is 'iso_1(ID=1)
I am attempting to Insert multiple rows in a table by passing DataTable to a Stored Proc. My code is the same as the examples on the net, however when I execute the code I receive the Subquery returned more than 1 value error.
I first created up a User-Defined Table Type
My stored proc is as follows:
ALTER PROCEDURE [KCC].[Insert_MaterialJobMtl] @MtlTblMaterialType READONLY AS BEGIN Set NOCOUNT ON;
I am trying to run a stored procedure which retreives 3 lakhs of records and updates the data and moves few of those records to some tables. Since the number of records are more , the time taken for the storede procedure is around 30 minutes when i directly execute it in query analyzer.
But I need to execute it from Visula Studio.Net 2005 (c#). Whole of the application contains only one form with a single button. When I click on the button , this stored procure has to be executed. But I am getting an error as shown below. "A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)"
Database used is SqlServer 2000
How to solve this error?. Any ideas are really appreciated.
Using the following code we are having a problem connecting a clients WIndows Mobile device to the SDF under IIS. We have success elsewhere. Does anyone have any clues ?
Basically the error that I am getting is in our test automation when running as non-admin on the box (regular user). We use .Net C# SQLConnection class to connect to SQL express 2005 impersonating with admin credentials. After getting the connection we try to execute a select command and it some time fails with following error: A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The handle is invalid.) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadSniError(TdsParserStateObject stateObj, UInt32 error) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadSni(DbAsyncResult asyncResult, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadPacket(Int32 bytesExpected) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadBuffer() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadByte() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.ConsumeMetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.get_MetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.FinishExecuteReader(SqlDataReader ds, RunBehavior runBehavior, String resetOptionsString) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader()
This happen only in the non-admin scenario mentioned above. Any idea what is triggering this?
I have an app receiving messages from SQL Service Broker when data is updated. (Messages are located at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.sqlclient.sqlnotificationinfo.aspx )
When I run this app against a remote SQL Server, I receive the message "Updated" which I expect.
But when I run the same app against the local machine SQL Server, I receive the message "Options".
Does anyone know if there are SQL Server options that must be set to certain values? I can't seem to find anything that troubleshoots this message... either from a SQLServer- or a .NET standpoint.
I have a bundling package that runs about 20 other packages. It has been working fine for a while but a couple of days ago it fail with the following message,
Error 0x800706BE while loading package file "D:PackagesToradSales.dtsx". The remote procedure call failed.
I´m running the SSIS packages in an 64-bit environment.
I have SSRS installed on a web server and points to another SQL Server with the ReportServer database. Every now and then I would get this error message on Report Manger:
Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'. The request failed with an empty response.

Does any know what causes these errors. They don't appear very often, but often enought for the users to complain.

I am trying to create a linked server between 2 SQL Server 2005 boxes. When I create the linked server I specify a login for the connection. The strange part is that I get the following error when it goes to test the connection:
The test connection to the linked server failed Login failed for user 'Domainuser'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)
I can use the SQL mangement studio to conenct to the database using this same login. The login has all the server roles assigned to it also.
Can anyone shed some light as to what may be the problem?

For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors We just have Reporting Services server (2005) up and running, my roles are browser, Content Manager, My Reports, Publisher, Report Builder. I was able to deployed the report and set up data source. Connect using credentials supplied by suer running the report, and use as Windows credentails when connecting to the data source checked. Hello everybody,I was configuring a SqlDataSource control using SQL Authentication mode.I first added a database file (testdb.mdf) through Solution Explorer-Add New Items. Then through Database Explorer I created a table named "info"Then while configuring the SqlDataSource control I used the SQL Authentication mode and attached the "testdb.mdf" database file.Test Connection showed success. But when I hit the Ok button of the wizard it displayed the following error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance. While configuring the SqlDataSource control I clicked "New Connection". Under Data Source section I tried both Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Database File. And in both the cases I attached a databese file(testdb.mdf). Plz enlighten me on this. Thanks and Regards,Sankar.
Many a times see the below error in SQL Error log.

Is this something to do here?
Note: If I run the below statement I know that the SQL Error log entry will go off, but wanted to know the real significance of this error?

I can't seem to fix the following error in my stored procedure.
Error Message: Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '1007-001' to data type int.
The line of code in my stored procedure that seems to be the problem is the following:
CASE WHEN [Order Details].[Job No] IS NULL THEN [Orders].[Order No] ELSE [Order Details].[Job No] END
Order No has a data type of INT and Job No has a data type NVARCHAR(8). In the above case statement i'm not trying to convert anything but just display a column depending on the out come of the case statement. If anyone knows how to get around this error you help would be very welcome.
My apologies...I wasn't for sure where to post an error like this...

I've searched for and found similar problems that deal with the microsoft.sqlserver.notificationservices.dll not being found but I haven't found a fix that worked for me. These are the fixes I've refered to thus far.
The answer that seems to fix this problem for everyone is to set the MSDTC service login as the NT AUTHORITYNetworkService account. The problem for me is that this is already set to this profile and I've tried resetting the services and rebooting the machine. I did not have a problem with my old machine, which as far as I can tell, is the same configuration, so I know this install should work.
I'm running Windows XP SP2. This is not the upgrade to SQL Server 2005 SP2, this is the original disk that came with Visual Studio 2005.
Has anyone else faced this issue where changing the MSDTC login wasn't the solution? Also, this is my first post, so I apologize if I've left anything out. Just let me know if you want any other information.
I began recieving the following error message. How can I resolve this?
SQL Server SQL Server could not find the specified named instance (PINNACLESYS) - please specify the name of an existing instance on the invocation of sqlserver.exe.
I have a website that works OK on my local machine when I test it within Microsoft Visual Studio's debugging mode. However now that I have copied it over to a remote server it is failing with an error message of:An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)As far as I'm aware I have never used SQL Server with my webpage. All connections to databases are to Oracle with connection strings and providers set up in the webconfig file. The website does however use a login control to recognise authorised users. Does this mean I've unknowingly been using SQL Server (to support the login control) and I therefore need to install this on the remote machine? Or is it something simpler? Wondered if anybody had seen this error message before?
