I have installed and reinstalled SQL SERVER 2005 EXPRESS on my Vista Home Edition system a couple of times trying to get it to recognize IIS during setup.
Prior to installing SQL SERVER I have gone through the steps for turning on IIS and the checkboxes are all checked in the Control Panel| Programs section which shows IIS 7 and all its features are turned on.
I can open IIS and IIS Service Manager.
Yet when I install SQL SERVER 2005 EXPRESS and the setup checks for required features, IIS is never found - always has the yellow triangle symbol next it it.
Can anyone help me understand what is going on and what I can do about it?
I am currently running Windows XP Professional Service Pack2. It already has MSDE & SQL Server 2000 installed (although I just uninstalled MSDE in the vain hope that it might present the installer with a more straightforward upgrade).
I have tried installing with the default instance & a new instance (I don't really care - I just need to install the darn thing). I just want the basic database & Books On-line, nothing fancy.

I suppose an error dialog (or log message) that actually told you what is wrong and then what to do is too much to ask for. (Or an installer than just copied all the files into place). :(

My SQL server 2005 is standard version, OS Windows server 2003 sp2, I am using Administrator account to install it.
I never installed previous beta versions on my computer before. But now I have some serious problem after an incomplete de-install and a re-install of SQL server 2005 express advanced. I hope anybody can help me to solve this. Because the first installation eas not succesfull I had to do an de-install. I have tried to unstall through start/control panel/ add-remove programms and even there not all programs were removed. And that caused the problem. After that I wanted to re-install again but an msi file was missing. So I did a de-install agian. Tried to re-install again but with a lot of errors. After looking at the library I found a program: Windows Install CleanUp. I installed it and that even gives an error for all programs installed with SQL 2005. After that I ran a program called MsiInv to clean but without any succes because this program reported a run-tim error. I have all reports on my computer but don't know how to attach them. I have never installed sql server before and I didnt know if I just take the sql server 2005 standard edition media and boot off it and do a fresh install that way or do I have to install Windows server
I went to one of the Microsoft "Ready To Launch" events over a year ago. Microsoft was gracious and gave everyone who attended a free copy of Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. I have installed the Visual Studio and use it all of the time. I also installed the SQL server 2005 but I can not find the application on my computer. After the install the only items that appear to have been installed are the following: SQL Server Configuration tools(SQL Server Configuration manager,SQL Server Error and usage reporting, SQL Server surface area confiuration, Reporting Services configuration). There is also a menu icon labeled "Microsoft SQL server upgrade advisor" and SQL server upgraded wizard. That is all. I can't find anything that is analogus to the Enterprise manager that was in SQL server 2000 or anything that is analogous to Query Analyzer of 2005.
Can someone help me out? We use SQL server 2005 so I know how it looks. I just can't see where it insalled. I don't think it did?

I am trying to install SQL 2005 in a 2-node virtual Windows 2003 cluster. I set the cluster up through Virtual Server 2005 with 2 virtual nodes and one virtual domain. The nodes can connect to each other as well as the physical machine. When I try to install a fresh copy of SQL 2005 on my cluster, I get an error every time. The program shortcut "Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt" seems to be mising from the "Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt" Start menu added by the current Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit. Where is it? How to workaround?

What's wrong? How to fix or workaround? I'd install .NET SDK 2.0 to get it's Command Prompt but that's about 570MB merely for a command prompt!

VS looks OK and MSSQLSERVER and SQLEXPRESS etc. show in ‘Services/Local’ as started/automatic.
I am trying to do Management Studio Tutorial. For the change from SEM.
The problem is in opening SQL Server Management Studio there is a dialog ‘Connect to Server’ showing Type = Database engine, Authentication = Windows Authentication, Server name = blank.
When I enter Server name = MSSQLSERVER and press Connect I get an error message ‘Cannot connect to MSSQLSERVER… Error 53.

hi! i just joined this group today after a colleague told me about it.anyway, i'm new to SQL and haven't tried installing any version of it.I do have vb 6.0 though on my pc. My problem is that I can't installSQL server 05 EE, VB 2005 or VW 2005. I have downloaded all of theinstaller from the Microsoft site as well as the dotnetfix which issupposed to install the .net framework 2.0.whenever i try to install SQL server EE, it is telling me that it hasfound beta components. but i don't have any beta versions of SQL. Itried uninstalling my Vb 6.0 thinking its causing the error, but samething happened.The next thing I did is I uninstall my .net 2.0 and when i try toinstall VB or VW 2005, i got to the step where it is trying to downloadthe .net framework 2.0 but it is taking so long. Question: is thedotnetfix.exe which installed .net 2.0, different from the .net 2.0that the setup.exe of VB2005 will download? if yes, may i know if thereis a direct site where i can manually download and install it so theVB2005 will just skip that part and go on with the installation?When i downloaded the exe files for SQL, .net 2.0, VB and VW, i didselect the SAVE option and saved them on my external mini hard drive soI can install it at home. Does that make any difference? could thatcause the error?pretty clear that i am a newbie with this stuff and i never thoughtthat it would be this hassle to install them heheheh any help, in adetailed way if possible, would highly be appreciated.thanks so much!manny
Hi I am having a major problem with an SSIS package I am trying to write at the moment. The SSIS package is supposed to read a csv file and import it into a table. The issue I am having is that the file comes to me where the first 15 or so lines are terminated with a ,{CR}{LF}.
1,123,11,0,0,0,0,,,0000-00-00,
2,123,11,0,0,0,0,,,0000-00-00,
Then after the first 15 lines the row termination becomes a simple {CR}{LF}.
16,123,11,12,0,0,0,,,0000-00-00
The problem I am having is that at row 16 SSIS fails to recognize the {CR}{LF} and starts merging rows together so that row 16 and 17 appear as one row, row 18 and 19 appear as one row and so forth. As far as I can determine is that it does not recognize the {CR}{LF} at the end of row 16 but then recognizes the {CR}{LF} at the end of row 17. It does not make any sense. I do have a script that runs prior to processing the file to remove unescaped quotes.
And I tried adding the following line to try and remove the ,{CR}{LF} and replace it with a simple {CR}{LF} but that just made matters worse and the merging of rows happened accross all the lines then.

Using TextPad I looked at the original CSV file and determined that it was encoded in ASCII, I am at a loss as to why this is happening. If I open the file in excel it formats correctly, if I use SSIS the formating gets thrown off. The file is a simple .CSV with a text qualifier of " column delimeter of , and a row delimeter of {CR}{LF}.
I've got a SQL query returning data into MS Excel.
One of the columns returns numbers that I then have a SUMIF formula totalling.
However, when the numbers get to Excel, they are not recognised as numbers so my SUM doesn't work. Even if I format the cells as number, general or currency, the sum doesn't work.
Excel knows that there is something in the cell but doesn't treat it as a number in any way.
Can I include something in the SQL statement so that it forces the results to be a number?
I am trying to install SQL Server Express with Advanced Services on a Vista machine. For some reason the installed does not pick up that IIS is up and running. Any Ideas?
My dimension table has a column called AccountNumber varchar(20), which is the business key.
I use SCD task to manage TYPE 2 changes on a particular column.
However, the SCD component doesn;t seem to recognize the change on the column. The datatype of the column in the dimension table and the datatype of the input column is same.
The datatype for the business key , which is varchar(20) is also same as the input column business key.
However, when I ran SQL profiler to see what is going on, I found that the SELECT statement
that was issued with the business key in the WHERE clause has char(20) instead of varchar(20)
for the business key. So, for example if the account number in the dimension table is '1234',
the SELECT statement is checking for '1234 '.
I trimmed the incoming string but I still get the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I have installed all components for SQL Server 2005 except for the WorkStation Options component. When I went back and tried to install this component only, I got an error.

I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on my portable. I have XP Professional and I have SQL Serve 2000 Developer Edition installed. At the end of the installation, I noticed that SQL 2005 did NOT install a service (at least I don't find it in the services. But it just connects to the SQL 2000 service. I decided NOT to install the example DB's to save some diskspace. Also the installation procedure didn't ask me for an instance name.
What did I wrong? And what do I have to do to install the SQL2005 service?

I have a AMD 64-bit multi-processor server that is currently running the 32-bit version of SQL Server 2005 without any problems and we are using it. (I followed the instructions on how to install the x64 version of the v2.0 of the .NET Framework and it is running properly.)
Now I want to move forward with installing the 64-bit version of SQL Server 2005 and the associated services such as SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
The plan is to basically uninstall the 32-bit version of SQL Server and then just install the x64 version, Are their any issues with the installation? I didn't see any 'read-me' on the x64 DVD disk. While we have lots of experience with 32-bit installations...this is our first x64 box...so I thought I should ask.

Some time back I did install a beta version of SQL Server 2005 BOL and I did have problems with it and I thought I had removed it. Something from it must still be on my machine. When installing Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition, I got a message stating that Microsoft SQL server failed to install. I tried twice with the same result.
We've been running into this problem at work the past few days that has been driving us nuts. We've been trying to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition for a folder set on the desktop of the local Administrator. We are choosing to install all SQL Server components, including books and management tools. The installation always fails with an unexpected error toward the end of the component installation. Needless to say, this happens if we install on any of several workstations in the same manner (local Administrator, folder on desktop). It should be noted that installation takes HOURS (these are new Intel Duo Core boxes with 4 GB RAM). No anti-virus software is installed yet.
Ironically, the installation works smoothly and installs within 20 minutes if I run the installer from CD-ROM. What gives??
The progress bar on the Installing Upgrades screen is completely blank, and the Task Manager CPU windows shows very little activity. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this installed correclty on my machine?
