All,
We have SQL 2005 db mirror configured with a witness server for high availability. Node 1 is the principal and Node 2 is the mirror. A nightly job creates a snapshot on Node 2. The snapshot is used for previous day reporting queries. We have now been asked to present another copy of the database for near-time reporting. I thought about possibly adding a peer-to-peer replication as part of my environment but was hoping to see what everyone else out there is doing.
Regards,
Ian

Process to create snapshot failed (twice per day snapshot of the database is being created for some people to work on). Morning snapshot worked fine but the afternoon one failed. The snapshot is being created from Mirror database. I used this code:
CREATE DATABASE [DB_snapshot] ON
(name = N'DB',filename = N'D:SnapshotDB.SQLSnapshot' )
,(name = N'indexes',filename = N'D:SnapshotDB_indexes.SQLSnapshot' )
AS SNAPSHOT OF DB
And the error message i get
Msg 1823, Level 16, State 6, Line 1
A database snapshot cannot be created because it failed to start.
Msg 1823, Level 16, State 7, Line 1
A database snapshot cannot be created because it failed to start.

Msg 3313, Level 21, State 1, Line 1

What might be causing this error? Mirroring seems to be working OK. status is "Synchronized"

How do I begin? I had previously installed the SQL Server 7.0 with NT Authentication and everything was fine until I Rename domain Name and Computer name. I decided to uninstall SQL Server, and then reinstall it.
From this action unable to see my database in enterprise manager. I Rename old domain and computer name again. and reinstall with Upgrade Version. but still same effect. Can anyone help? What do I need to do to get my database to work again? Any input on this will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi
I've had a powerfailure, that resulted in I had to scratch my DB server, I've managed to get all the .mdf and .ldf files from the server. On the new server I get a "Error 823: I/O error (torn page)" when I'm trying to attach the .mdf file to the New server.
Both the new and the old server is a win2003 with SQL 2000 SP3
Is there anybody who knows how I can recover the DB?

Hello,
Is it possible to restore a SQL 2000 database with data from a transaction log?
I am not sure what happened to my database, all the data in the tables is gone. I generated a db script to create a duplicate database. I saved the .sql file on my local machine, separate from the db server, renamed the database name in the .sql file to a new database. Tested script in query analyzer for syntax, all was fine. Running it at this point would have created a new database with a different name, right?
Now my original database is empty. Can someone please provide me with information on getting my data back. Is there a way of using the transaction log to recover the data.
Thanks

Howdy all -I am *not* a DBA, so please bear with me. A client's Windows 2000server went belly up yesterday afternoon after getting updates fromWindows Update. Wouldn't come up at all any more. I broke the mirrorfor the OS, rebuilt the Windows 2000 installation, and installed MS-SQL2000 and SP3 so that now the server is configured identically to whatit was before the crash. Now I have the databases in D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQLServerMSSQLData. D: is a mirror of the (now broken) oldinstallation. How can I get the databases into the active installationof MS-SQL on the C: drive?I was thinking of creating databases with the same name, shutting downSQL and copying the files from D: to C: but that sounds too easy.Any pointers greatly appreciated. Please remember that I am not anexperienced DBA, so use short words and speak slowly... :-)

All,
I have created an asynchronous database mirror and a snapshot of the mirrored database similar to what is described in the following article:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms175511.aspx
The article says that once you create the mirror that "At this point, new client connections can be programmatically directed to the latest snapshot."
My question is, how can you programmatically direct connections to the latest snapshot?
Does anyone have a suggestion, or know what the article is getting at? We will use SQL Server Reporting services to query off of the database snapshot.
Thank you,
Racer-D

Hi all. A few days ago i installed mcafee total protection 2007 and that disabled my internet connection totally!! I couldn't fix it so i had to uninstall it. After uninstalling mcafee total protection 2007 still i couldn't join Internet!!
So i got mad and went and made repair installation of windows xp pro. After repair installation i couldn't activate it since Internet connection was still not working!! So i went and installed another copy of xp pro on different folder and named it WINDOWS (old one was WINDOWS2).Thanks god now i could join Internet but all my shortcuts and menu items are not visible.
Unfortunately I can't even start sql server 2000 either!! could any one tell me what should i do in order to get access to all database tables and data that i had in sql server and make a back up. I didn't install any new sql server yet. I be happy if an expert tell me what should i do. Recently i got task from Senior DBA, as : Recover a database without LOG file Currently Data File is available.
Log file is also available, but shows size as 0 KB. Means Log file is corrupted.
Currently existing DB is shown as Offline Mode in SSMS.
So i got below link:
[URL]
When i tried 1st/2nd solution from above link, i got below message:The log cannot be rebuilt because there were open transactions/users when the database was shutdown, no checkpoint occurred to the database, or the database was read-only. This error could occur if the transaction log file was manually deleted or lost due to a hardware or environment failure.
To try that 3rd solution, I had to DELETE/Remove existing DB from SSMS, so i can create New DB with same name.
When i tried to delete Log file from Command Prompt, using below command, Windows replied that File is corrupted, so it cannot be deleted.
DEL /F /Q /A C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL11.SQLEXPRESS2012MSSQLDATAMyDB.ldf
Meanwhile my Senior DBA brought DB in Recovery Pending mode.
So if i want to go for 3rd solution, then i need to DELETE file, But Windows is not allowing me.

Bitmap bm = null;
ms.Read(bytes, 0, bytes.Length);

Hi
While a database upgrade schema changes were being made the Mirror became disconnected will this recover itself when it reconnects or will it be the case that we will have to copy the db files to the Mirror and set it up from scratch.
It was set up as a synchronise mirror

Hi
I tried to setup service broker to fail over to a mirror database. After the target database failed over, the message I send stays in sys.transmission_queue with no error in transmission_status. I check the mirror server log and I see the following.
An exception occurred while enqueueing a message in the target queue. Error: 15581, State: 3. Please create a master key in the database or open the master key in the session before performing this operation.
The database has the master key because its a mirrored database? Did I have to do something extra here
