Recovery :: Adding Nodes To Virtual Server Definition Using A Newer Version Of Setup Is Not Allowed
Jun 6, 2015
One of my actual production environments is a Failover two-node cluster, SQL Server 2005 SP3 on Windows Server 2003 R2. Recently, the node 2 was failed, so I formatted a new machine to add the new node, but it failed with the following error: “Adding nodes to the Virtual Server definition using a newer version of Setup is not allowed.”I have searching across the web for a solution but I can’t find it.
The Summary file “Summary.txt” are:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.1399.06
OS Version : Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family, Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 3790)
Time
: Thu Jun 04 13:04:38 2015
[code]....
One point of my attention, it’s that the Product Version that appears on this summary file corresponding a 9.00.1399.06 that is to say, a RTM version, not SP3 (9.00.4035).Based on this, I went to the path where the files of installation are (ARPWrapper.exe), "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup Bootstrap"and I 've found that these files contain a different version of what I have currently installed. For example, in properties of ARPWrapper.exe the version of this is 2005.90.1399.0 The same goes for the rest of the files in that folder:
Microsoft.SqlServer.AnalysisServices.UpgradeAdvisor.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.BestPracticesAnalyzer.UpgradeAdvisor.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.DTS.UpgradeAdvisor.dll
setup.exe
Is it possible that the solution is to replace these files with the corresponding version, in this case the version 2005.90.4035.0(SP3) and continue with the installation?

We have an AAG environment. In order for the failover to be transparent we have to ensure that the login that is added in the Primary node is also added to the secondary node. Currently, we are adding the logins to the secondary node manually. Is there a way to automate this process so that a Login added to the Primary node is automatically updated on the Secondary Node.

We need to move a cluster to a new data center. There is a strong preference to retain the previous SQL Virtual Name. The existing cluster has a single default instance. We understand that when you have created a SQL Server FCI that you can change the SQL Virtual Name but not the instance name. So if the current SQL Virtual Name is SQL1 then at a high level:
Build cluster at new DCInstall SQL Server FCI with a virtual name as SQLTEMP and as a the default instanceShutdown old cluster ???Rename SQLTEMP to SQL1 Since there is an existing SQL Virtual Name my concern is that we cannot simply rename SQLTEMP to SQL1. Do we need to delete the VCO from AD for SQL1 in step

I am setting up a 3 node cluster as part of an availability group.Initially I tested failover between nodes using SQL Management Studio and everything failed over successfully when I stopped a node, and I was still able to write queries. I started to test with an application which connects using an SQL user and whenever I would switch nodes, I would get login failed. I believe the cause of this issue is because the server logins SID's which are tied to the database are different than the server logins on the other nodes which resulted in login failed.how can I ensure that the server logins SID's are the same between nodes? Is there a way of copying this over or how is this supposed to be done? I read a little about contained databases where I could just set the login on the database itself vs. creating a server login but I would rather not go down that route.

Curious on how this will work.. if i install sql 2005 standard edition on one virtual server.. to a fixed disk (actually 2 fixed disks.. one for C, one for D).. then install another 2005 standard edition on another virtual server.. do i just rerun the setup and suddenly the failover cluster option will NOT be greyed out?
Can anyone comment on this?
Thanks in advance.

I have a 2012 AlwaysOn DB Mirroring environment set up with two nodes. Both have 5 installs of SQL named instances.
The issue we are having is when we patch one server and fail everything over, some of the applications will error. Some of the applications had to have their web.config files updated with hostinstance name because it seems to not work with DNS.

Is there a way to expand the RDL to add custom nodes?
I read here there is a <Custom> element that can be put inside the <Report> node, but it does not work. I get all kinds of Scheme errors.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms153972.aspx
I get the following errors when I add <Custom> element inside <Report>, which is acceptable according the the MSDN link above.

I'm just starting to work with AlwaysOn Availability and WSFC.
I have in my environment (in Azure) a DC, WSFC and to SQL instances, so I have 3 nodes in my Failover Cluster:
WSFC
SQL1
SQL2
If I simulate failure by shutting down one of the SQL boxes my Availability group seamlessly fails over to the other SQL instance - which is great.
However, I'm starting to look into the workings of the Quorum, my envt has the default settings and when I shutdown both of my SQL servers I expected the Cluster itself to go offline as 2 out of the 3 votes will be negative, but the Cluster is still up - Screenshot below when SQL1 and SQL2 are shutdown:
Going through the Wizard (but not changing anything) it shows following config:

Hi All,
SQL newbie here. I just looked at my Job Activity monitor and found that my Transaction log backups are failing. I looked at the error and it read as follows:
Executing the query "BACKUP LOG [OperationsManager] TO DISK = N'D:\SQL\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\OperationsManager\OperationsManager_backup_200805061000.trn' WITH RETAINDAYS = 1, NOFORMAT, NOINIT, NAME = N'OperationsManager_backup_20080506100001', SKIP, REWIND, NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10
" failed with the following error: "The statement BACKUP LOG is not allowed while the recovery model is SIMPLE. Use BACKUP DATABASE or change the recovery model using ALTER DATABASE.
BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I read some of the posts regarding this error, but I am not sure how to do the steps. How do I change the recovery model? I am new to this so I have no clue how to do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hello,
We currently have a 2 node Active/Passive 2 named instance SQL 2000 cluster. We will be chaning the configuration to Active/Active, basically moving 1 instance to the passive node (so we can take advantage of the resources on the passive node).
We would also like to add 3 nodes to the cluster making it a 5 node SQL cluster. What we are thinking of doing is basically making it an Active/Active/Active/Active with the 5th server being passive. The question I have is will I be able to add and install the 3 new nodes without having to redo the SQL cluster? Should I install the two new active nodes with the default SQL instace or do I have to install SQL with named instances? (actually I think the named instances is the way to go but then I wouldn't be posting here if I was sure about the answer).
Thx!

Hi,
I have a package which reads an Access file from a folder. My connection manager to this file is .NET providers for OledbMicrosoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
Package works from my computer. But when I execute it on the server as a SQL Agent job, I get
The component metadata for "component "DataReader Source" (1) could not be upgraded to the newer version of the component. The PerformUpgrade method failed.
I copied the mdb file to a folder on the server which my packages have no problem reading data from.
My packages run under the same domain account as defined in proxies.
Appreciate a help.

If you have your Data, Logs, System and TempDB all in VMDK's and those VMDK's are formatted to 64K and then reside on Clustered Storage that is formatted as 4K, which is then running through a SAN controller that is reading and writing in 2MB chunks, is there value in formatting the SQL drives as 64K? Also, would it be better to format the Clustered Storage as 64K? Is this a situation in which formatting the SQL drives as 64K is becoming a moot point?

We're upgrading our SQL Server database from 2005 to 2012.I ran the Upgrade Advisory report and got this issue "Non-integer constants are not allowed in the ORDER BY clause in 90" because of the script below
SELECT
gp.BRAND+' <> '+gp.CATEGORY AS 'full name',
gp.PRODCODE,
gp.CATEGORY
FROM dbo.GFK_PRODUCT gp
ORDER BY
'full name'
I tried running the same query in our test SQL Server 2012 and it ran successfully. Now I'm confuse if i still need to change it.I google the issue a bit and came across this link and mentioned this.
1.) Non-integer constants are ... constants that are not integer number.
Example: 'string1' represents
a string constant
0x01 represents
a varbinary constant
{ts
'2015-02-26 06:00:00'} represents a datetime constant
1.23 represents
a numeric constants
2) So single quotes are used to define a string constants / character string constants but SQL Server allows also to use single quotation marks use also as column identifier
delimiter:
SELECT ... expression AS 'Column1'
FROM ...
In this context is clear that 'Column1' is a column identifier but when used in ORDER BY : ORDER BY 'Column1' it generates confusion because SQL Server doesn't knows if it represents a string literal (character string constant) or it represents a column identifier / column name."Do I still need to change the existing code even though it's working fine in 2012? If yes, it is because of best practice reason or it will total get deprecated/not working in the future version?

We have a client which they have production 2 node cluster environment. On it around 200 databases with single SQL instance.
Now client wants disatster plan for these 200 database. In these 200 database 3 db's are around 80 GB each databases remaing are less than 5 DB.Note: All these 200 db's are having produciton sites (i mean to say each db is having single site)
For this DR paln clinet is going to provide other DR server, they wants to setup DR between exsting produciton cluster instance to this DR server.
So in this case we have suggest SQL server AlwaysOn availability group.
Here my main question is can we keep all these databases in single AG? .If yes, guidlines to move up. if not, do we have any limitations. Also, best method to setup for this DR plan.

I saw following point on Technet article about RBS.The local FILESTREAM provider is supported only when it is used on local hard disk drives or an attached Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) device. You cannot use the local RBS FILESTREAM provider on remote storage devices such as network attached storage (NAS).It looks like that we cannot use FILESTREAM on Failover Cluster because to setup Failover Cluster we need to have NAS. But then the NAS is made available locally for Failover Cluster so FILESTREAM should work right?Found another article which talks about setting up FILESTREAM on Failover Cluster. URL...

OS - Windows 2012 R2 Standard Edition.
DB - SQL 2012 Enterprise edition
Total 3 nodes participates for AO setup, 2 Nodes for Local HA and 1 Node for another datacenter for DR. All the 3 Nodes are same domain name and member.
1. Local First 2 Nodes are same subnet XXX.XX.44.XX
2. DR Node another subnet XXX.XX.128.XX
Does it require to add two different IP address while creating cluster name? Not using shared disk SAN storage etc.. I am using Node majority quorum witness setting for failover.

I am in the process of rolling out a pair of SQL 2014 servers. I have setup an Availability Group, Listener and databases. It's my understanding that I will be giving the listener name to our developers so that they can do their work. In testing, I noticed that If I am using Studio Manager and connected to the the AG using the listener name, when I setup a user in security the user is only added to the active primary node. Is there a way to add a user to both servers in one shot instead of having to install on both servers?

I have an active passive cluster on my primary Data center in NY and have a DR Active / passive SQL Cluster in TX. These are two separate clusters in the same domain using the same SQL server credentials. Both clusters host an active / passive SQL instance. Lets call it SQLNY(Primary) and SQLTX (DR). I want to enable always On Availability group within the two SQL Instances SQLNY and SQLTX. The listener will be SQLAG which will be used by the Application to connect to the SQL instance. Is there a practical way to implement this? This will not only give me instant fail over within the NY (Primary) but also give me the flexibility to fail over to TX. I am using SQL 2014 Enterprise Edition on both clusters.

Two node AO cluster setup.
I found errors frequently in cluster events at logs as below
"Cluster network interface 'Node1 - 10.X.XXX.1' for cluster node 'Node1' on network 'Cluster Network 1' failed. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges."
How to fix this issues? is it missing any patch OS or cluster side?
