Recovery :: Can Run DAG Replication Between Two Clustered Instances In FCI?

Aug 27, 2015

My ambition is to run ASPStateInMemory with durability on, supplementing the in-memory database with an on-disk version to give session state persistence when and if the clustered instance of SQL runs into, say a network card failure and needs to fail to a partner node. I understand that DAG's are usually run between standalone instances of SQL running on different machines. But, can I combine the DAG with the FCI?  Instead of using a remote standalone SQL server, can I just another instance in the same cluster?

SQL 2012 :: Clustered Instances And Security

Jan 5, 2015

Is it possible for a clustered instance of SQL2012 to have 2 network names ?

Reason: I need to segregate admin access to a clustered instance so that the admins and SSMS connect via a different IP address than the application. I know I can block SSMS access via application-level firewalls, but ideally the application would connect to CLUSTER1INSTANCE01 on , say, 10.192.5.5, and the admins would connect to CLUSTER1ADMININSTANCE01 on 172.168.2.2, and they'd be the same instance, just using different names and IPs

SSIS Clustered, Accessed By Multiple Instances

Feb 8, 2007

Hi,

I have a clustered environment which has many instances in it. I have modified the xml file to allow several instances to use ssis. Everything works great when the instances are on the same node as the clustered ssis. However if they are on different nodes there seems to be an aunthentication problem and it loses my credentials. For some reason it tries to use Anonymous Logon instead. Here is the full error:

The SQL server specified in SSIS service configuration is not present or is not available. This might occur when there is no default instance of SQL Server on the computer. For more information, see the topic "Configuring the Integration Services Service" in Server 2005 Books Online.

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. (MsDtsSrvr)

I would appreciate anyones help on this problem.

Thanks,

Adam

Setup And Upgrade :: Opening Port 1433 Between 2 Clustered Instances?

Nov 23, 2015

We have 2 clustered SQL instances (2 physical servers in each cluster). Instance2 needs to be setup as a linked server on Instance1.

At this time port 1433 between them is not open. I am referring to the port on the network switch, not in the Windows Firewall (ports in Windows Firewall are already open).

Is opening the port between virtual IP-s sufficient? Or does port need to be open between all physical source/destination IP-s as well?

Recovery :: AG Multiple Instances On Each AG Member

Jul 15, 2015

I am looking for information on setting up multiple instances of SQL 2014 on a single server and then adding each of those instances into availability groups. Is this supported?

Currently I have a test environment with 3 SQL 2014 servers and a domain controller. The 3 SQL servers are in a WSFC and I have an availability group setup for 3 databases. This setup works great. Now to add another level of complexity to this, I would like to install another SQL instance on each of the 3 SQL servers and then build another availability group for this new instance. Is this possible?

Can Two Separate SQL Server Instances On A Clustered Box Share The Same Resource Name Such As SQLCLUS1INST1 And SQLCLUS1INST2

Mar 27, 2007

I am setting up a two active instances of MS SQL Server on a clustered box. In the past I have set up using the nomenclature SQLCLUSTERNAMEINSTANCE-NAME such as SQLCLUS1INST1 and SQLCLUS2INST2.

But, this time the client will like it installed such as SQLCLUS1INST1 and SQLCLUS1INST2. I did not think this is possible --- That is I assumed that cluster resource names have to be unique. But, nevertheless I have tried to do so for the last few days, but no luck.

Can someone please let me know if it is indeed possible to have two separate instances in a single cluster.

BTW, I know this is quite possible with non-clustered instances --- where the SQLSERV1INST1 refers to an actual server name, and not a resource name.

Just want to know if we can replicate data (Transactional Replication) from a clustered servers (server A and Server B are active-passive clustered running SqlServer 7) to another server C running SqlServer 7.

If yes, how to go about doing this. Any white papers, KB articles or books out there which will walk through the steps to do it.

Appriciate any help.

Recovery :: Restore Clustered Server Into Single DR Server

Aug 18, 2015

I'm working to test out a recovery scenario involving a SQL 2008 R2 2 node cluster.  I want to restore it to a standalone server.  The nodes are VMware VMs using physical RDM for the shared storage.  Using Veeam as the backup tool.  Veeam doesn't work with physical RDM so I'm dumping the databases (all Simple) elsewhere to be picked up and replicated with Veeam.  No problem there.  For my DR I have a vanilla 2008 R2 server being replicated so that I can use it as a base to restore SQL.  So far the testing has worked ok.  What I'm trying to learn is the best way to restore the cluster to the standalone server and have it look the same to the affected app servers.

The cluster has several instances.  In my testing, I've recreated the instances, but I don't think they show up as they do on the cluster.  For example, if the Windows server name is SQL01, and I install an instance called SQL-APP, SELECT @@servername while connected to the instance still shows SQL01 but in production it shows SQL-APP. What do I need to do to get everything to match up?  I suspect that, while I haven't seen any problems, there could be something I'm missing that would manifest itself later.

Also, in testing, am I better off to delete the cluster server account from AD and join the domain with the DR server under the same name?  (this is an isolated bubble so no impact on production). For the purpose of this scenario, assume all other required servers (DC, DNS, application, etc.) are present in the test environment as they would be in production and nothing requires resources outside the bubble.  The only item affected is the SQL cluster.

Replication :: Clustered Index Is Not Replicated

Mar 1, 2010

Using SQL 2005 SP2. I have a publication that contains indexed views, and some other objects that query the indexed view using WITH (NOEXPAND). Currently replication fails because the CLUSTERED INDEX on the view is NOT replicated. I've experimented with various schema options but nothing changes. The view is replicated but not the clustered index on that view. I've seen some discussion on replicating indexed views to a table, but I would like to replicate indexed view schema fully. (Including the clustered index on that view). Is there a way to make this work?

Replication Of SQL Server In Clustered Environment

Aug 9, 2006

We are running 2 SQL Server and both run in failover clustered Environment.
The Problem is now we need to Replicate a Database from one Virtual SQL Sever to the other.

The Second one (clusterd environment)is stroing their database localy while the First One (clustered environment)is storing database in a shared storage.
Note that Both Server are used for sperate purpose , but we now need to set replication on the Other Clustered Setup for Reporting Purpose.

Will it work if we configure replication from One SQL Server Clustered Setup to the Other Clstered Setup.
If yes, then please let me know how it can be done ?

Thanks

Replication :: Non-Clustered Indexes Not Copying

Dec 10, 2012

I set up replication on our servers at work to streamline some procedures we run daily/weekly on them. This copies around 15 articles from two databases on the "Master" server to another server used for execution purposes. For the most part it was a pretty straight forward task and it seemed to work nicely; but I realised after some investigation that the non-clustered indexes weren't copying over to the child server.

I set the non-clustered indexes property in the properties of the publishing articles to "True" and generated a new snapshot, this seemed to work, but I've come into work this morning to find the property has reset to "False" and I have no indexes on the table again. Why is this happening and is there any way I can resolve the matter so the indexes are copied over concurrently?

SQL Server Replication From Non-clustered Database Servers

Jun 22, 2006

Hello,Being a bit of a SQL Server novice, need some advice with the followingsituation.Server A and Server B have SQLServer 2000 based databases. The vendorof the application/system has implemented their own replication processto ensure the 2 databases are in sync. However, there is no clusteringwith virtual IP addresses implemented. So to an external client/db, itis 2 identical databases with the same name on 2 distinct servers. We need to develop an application that will reside on a networkedserver C and with SQLServer 2000 as well. While most of the tables inthis database are self contained, around 10 tables will have to bemirror copies of the same tables from either Server A or Server B.Question, how do we implement subscription based replication on top ofa redundant database, when no clustering is implemented? So, inessence, when Server A is alive, the database on Server C willperiodically (or on change) replicate the 10 tables from Server A. WhenServer A is not alive, it needs to do same from server B. (When bothserver A and B are alive, it is acceptable to get data from either, since they are synchronized internally).Any alternate suggestions on achieving this functionality are welcometoo. If SQL Server 2005 has some capabilities that may address thisproblem, that is a consideration as well. Thanks

Replication In Clustered Environement - Security Issue

Nov 16, 2007

Hello,

Not sure if this question belongs here in the Setup & Upgrade section but here is the problem.

When installing replication in a non clustered environment, the Sql replication jobs run fine with the windows login provided (this login has access to the snapshot folder and has the proper roles. All the log reader, distributer and subscriber agents work fine)

When installing replication in a windows (MS) clustered environment, the agents running under the same login and same privilages dont work. It seems like there is something wrong with the proxy account and the ability of sql to access disk resources using this account. The only workaround is to go to the agent jobs, change the login under which they work from the proxy account to an actual windows account.

Has anyone come across this issue? I am forced to use the sql agent account and running the replication agents under way more privilages than I would like to.

TIA

Replication Disaster Recovery-Next Identity Seeds

Jan 22, 2008

We have implemented replication on SQL Server 2005 with 1 publisher and 1 snapshot (non-update) subscriber.

The purpose is for emergency disaster fail-over.

If the publisher (Primary) fails, then we switch the DNS so the subscriber (Secondary) becomes ‘live’ and we need it to be able to accept new records.

The problem is that the identity seeds start at 0 on the Secondary server - so no records can be input, as there are primary key violations.

We can set the increment value to -1 for all the seeds, and this works.

However there are config & replication issues with bringing up the database on the failed (Primary) server once it is restored and back online.

Does it really need to be this complicated?

Where are the ‘next identity seeds’ for all the tables in the database stored? Can they be restored on the database when fail-over occurs?

Or is there some setting in the Microsoft SQL Dba?

Named Instances And Default Instances Of SQL Server 2000

I had a server with SQL Server 7.0
I installed a named instance of SQL Server 2000 and then i passed all my DB
of the 7.0 instance to the 2000 instance.
Then i removed the 7.0 instance, that was the default instance.
So at the moment there is only the 2000 version, but it isn't the default
instance
Can the 2000 instance become the default instance? (So that clients can
connect to it simply through computer name, and not creating an alias)
