Recovery :: Cluster Network Interface Error In AO Setup With HyperV Machine
Nov 13, 2015
Two node AO cluster setup.
I found errors frequently in cluster events at  logs as below
"Cluster network interface 'Node1 - 10.X.XXX.1' for cluster node 'Node1' on network 'Cluster Network 1' failed. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges."
How to fix this issues? is it missing any patch OS or cluster side?

I am using SQL 2012 SE with clustering on Windows server 2008 R2. Now I want migrate it to windows server 2012 with minimal down time. So I want to evict the passive node and add a new node with windows server 2012 and install sql server 2012 SE on the new passive node and perform a failover(make the node with 2012 OS as active) and then evict the new passive node and add another node with windows 2012 and then do the same thing?

I saw following point on Technet article about RBS.The local FILESTREAM provider is supported only when it is used on local hard disk drives or an attached Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) device. You cannot use the local RBS FILESTREAM provider on remote storage devices such as network attached storage (NAS).It looks like that we cannot use FILESTREAM on Failover Cluster because to setup Failover Cluster we need to have NAS. But then the NAS is made available locally for Failover Cluster so FILESTREAM should work right?Found another article which talks about setting up FILESTREAM on Failover Cluster. URL...

When I initially downloaded SQL Server Express the System tables were visible using SQL Server Management Studio Express. I was able to create a new database and define and populate a couple of small tables. I then attempted to set up an ODBC SQL Natvie Client connection so that I could print the table contents using Crystal Reports. That failed with the following error message:
"An error occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections."
I subsequently uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Server Express. Now, I get the following error message whenever I try to connect to the database using SQL Server Management Studio Express. Additionally, the System tables are no longer visible. However, I can access my database via the Server Explorer in VS2005.
TITLE: Connect to Server

Cannot connect to STAN-DELLSQLEXPRESS.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. First-time poster (and very new to ASP.NET, so please be patient) - I am using VS 2005. I have an ASP.Net 2.0 app that is using Forms Authentication and a Login server control with AspNetSqlMembershipProvider. I have an instance of ASPNETDB.MDF in the App_Data directory on my local machine and all works well (or at least as expected). I used the Copy Web Site function to port the app (including the ASPNETDB.MDF files) to my production platform, where I encounter the error mentioned in the subject line. I have found posts (both here and other forums) that mention enabling TCP/IP using Surface Area Configuartion Utility, SQL Server Browser are exempt from firewall, and a few other things. My production machine does not have SQL SVR 2005 installed nor SQL SVR Express. Do I have to install SQL Server Express onto my production platform in order to resolve this, or is there another means (something in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio on my local machine) that will enable me to do this on the production machine? Also, I have been told that it is possible to use a database on another machine as the data store for authentication. Does anyone know how to do that? This would make the first question moot. Thanks in advance!

I'm getting the following error when I go to create a cluster in the Failover Cluster Manager in Windows Server 2008.
"The address 10.10.10.111 is not valid for its associated network"
I'm following the instruction in the book for the 70-462 exam. Â There was a step that had me create a DNS A record for the address sql-cluster.contoso.com. Â The IP address was mapped to 10.10.10.111. Â I'm not sure if this is the culprit but its the only time I used that IP address in the setup.
Below are 2 screenshots. Â The first screenshot is the error. Â The second screenshot is my DNS console.

We have a requirement to build SQL environment which will give us local high availability and disaster recovery to second site. We have two sites- Site A & Site B. We are planning to have two nodes at Site A and 2 nodes at Site B. All four nodes will be part of same Windows failover cluster. We will build two SQL Cluster, InstanceA will be clustered between the nodes at Site A Server and InstanceB will be clustered between the nodes at Site B, we will enable Always On Between the InstanceA and InstanceB and will be primary owner where data will be written on InstanceA and will be replicated to InstaceB. URL....Now we want we will have instanceC on the Site B and data will be writen from the application available on Site B, will be replicated to the instance on the Site A as replica.

Due to a SQL 2014 cluster installation failure related to security while setting up the primary node, I had to remove the node and any related installation programs from the node and redo the installation again. However I am unable to use the machine name as the SQL network name during the instance configuration, I get the following:
Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Infrastructure.InputSettingValidationException: The SQL Server failover cluster instance name "MachineName" already exists as a server on the network. Specify a different failover cluster instance name.I am still getting the same name since the node name "MachineName" is listed under the cluster name. I have used machine name as SQL network name without an issue. I do not have any existing SQL machine name in network using same machinename which I want to use for this installation.

I have tried numerous things, including rebuilding the 2nd node again
Trying to install a service pack on SQL 2000 node, and Install shield keeps returning this error, .

I have reset temp directories on both nodes,
I have made user permissions and profiles exist
I have copied install files to both local and remote locations
I know the response €“ Installshield cannot find the silent response file, but SQL setup creates this on its own.
Short of bringing this production system down and re-installing on both nodes ( I did test this on a non-prod box by the way, no issues), I am at a loss

During the installation of Adding node to a SQL Server failover cluster(On passive node) getting error like.. The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such as the failure of the WMI server to start. We  run the below commands but didn’t get any resolution & got the same above error .
Â
1st Method…
1. Open console command (Run->CMD with administrator privileges).Â
2. net stop winmgmtÂ
3. Rename folder %windir%System32WbemRepository to other one, for backup purposes (for example _Repository).Â
4. net start winmgmt
2ndÂ Method..
1. Disable and stop the WMI service.
a) Command : - sc config winmgmt start= disabled
b. Command : - Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â net stop winmgmt
2. Run the following commands.
a). Command: Winmgmt /salvagerepository %windir%System32wbem
b). Command: Â Winmgmt /resetrepository %windir%System32wbem
3. Re-enable the WMI service
Command:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â sc config winmgmt start= autoÂ
Last command to run after above steps
4. Command:Â Â Â Â mofcomp "%programfiles(x86)%Microsoft SQL Server100Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof"

I execute a pretty big sql query which joins multiple tables and I reviewed indexes on all these tables. I am happy with the result when I run the query using SSMS in the server locally i.e., where my SQL Server database is installed. It takes 4 seconds to get around 17000 records. If I run the same query in a network or from my desktop using SSMS i.e., i connect to the above mentioned SQL Server using SSMS, it takes more than 60 seconds. Not sure how to solve this. If someone could help me, it will be of great help.
Thanks.

I am running a number of SQL instances on my PC. Within the network, I have think server with various System Center components. For compatibility reasons, some features of System Center 2012 R2 had to be delegated to different SQL databases. My question is, because there is now more than one IP address on my system, and each instance of SQL is assigned to its own IP, is there a way to setup DNS and SQL so the namespace points to the desired IP address? For Instance:
MSSQL2008 instance is set to run on = 11.12.13.1
MSSQL2012 is set to run on = 11.12.13.2
IN DNS:
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.1
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.2
If I want to use MSSQL2008 by specifying Mike-PC as the DNS name, how would I do that with 100% accuracy? If there is another way to get the job done, I am more than willing to approach this differently.

In the 'add connection' dialogue, what do I put in the 'Server name:' field, (apart from server name...) is it the name of the machine or the IP address of the machine on the network ?Any and all advise appreicated. Thanks in advance.

A local drive is maped to the remote machine in Windows NT Explorer but SQLSERVER7 Enterprise Manager can't see this drive so that I could do the backup to it.
Can any one please tell me how to make this work?

Hi,
I am hoping you will be of assistance to me and provide a little advice on what exactly is possible using SQL Express / SQL Server 2005 with regards to remotely connecting to a server.
I am a final year undergraduate student studying computing sciences in the UK. As a final year project I am attempting to create a client-server database, where the client (a WM5 PDA) can connect to an SQL server hosted on a different machine (a PC). However, I must be able to connect to the server when the PDA is being used on any Wi-Fi connection.
Basically I want the PDA to be able to connect to a database kept on the PC at home when you're out and about using the PDA's wi-fi.
Is this possible? If so, could you explain in 'dummy' terminology how one would go about this?
As my university is part of the MS Academic Alliance I have access to VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005 for this project.
Many thanks for your time and I eagerly await your responses!

Hi there,
to follow on my question in the other forum, I have a database with triple des encrypted columns
Master key created, certificate and symmetric key using certificate. Values inserted into table (encrypted)
Can select etc, all works fine.
Back up and restore database on another server, decrypting the data results in NULLs being returned. Backed up and restore the master key, cerficate, etc but either it completes successfully or SQL states that the old and the new keys are the same and wont be changed. Master key opens (using password), cert opens (is viewable in sys.openkeys) but then closes automatically after trying to decrypt. Suggests there is something wrong with the certificate or the key, but I have no idea what it is.
Can someone please tell me exactly what is needed to view this on the 2ndary box? And what I might be missing?
Thanks

Which network does the SQL user databases in the AG group use to replicate between the replica servers? When I do the SQL backups, do I need to backup primary and secondary replicas or just backup the databases in the secondary replica?

I know that AlwaysOn creates a WSFC role in order to provide failover of the Availability Group Listener. But does it also "honor" the WSFC network setttings? What I'd like to do is isolate the client-side traffic from the database replication traffic. But it's not clear to me that AlwaysOn even uses that part of WSFC.
a) Can you totally isolate the traffic as I've described?
b) Does AlwaysON actually use WSFC network settings? If yes, then I guess I cannot do what I want, since my choices are Cluster & Client, or Cluster Only.

We have an HA configuration with an Active-Passive Cluster / Shared Disk SAN which is working great. Â I have been looking for how to replicate the information to our DR site. Â We have many databases (some are more static vs. other transactional). Â I had some questions:Would it make sense to configure a snapshot for the static databases? Â Is that possible from a clustered environment using it as the publisher?Would it make more sense to configure the clustered environment to use transactional replication? Â Is it possible from a clustered primary? Is log shipping too archaic?
