Recovery :: Error While Executing Script On Log Shipping Secondary Server?

May 5, 2015

We tried to configure log shipping using script generated by GUI and when executed specific script which is meant for secondary server the database is not created and threw below error.

Msg 15010, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_add_log_shipping_secondary_database, Line 50

The database 'BUBALLO' does not exist. Supply a valid database name. To see available databases, use sys.databases.

Note: Only Copy, restore and alerts jobs have been created.

The account I'm trying to configure log shipping is the service account by which SQL and agent services are running and folder in where data and log files are intended and to be created is open to all (everybody has read/write permissioins) believe the issue is not with permissions.

Recovery :: Cluster Failover - Failed To Bring Secondary Node Online?

Oct 19, 2010

Server : Windows server 2008
DB Server : SQL Server 2008 (SP1)

Here are the series of events which happened.

1.) Event ID: 1135
Cluster node 'XYZ' was removed from the active failover cluster membership. The Cluster service on this node may have stopped. This could also be due to the node having lost communication with other active nodes in the failover cluster. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapters on this node. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.

2.) Event ID: 1049
Cluster IP address resource 'SQL IP Address 1 (XYZ)' cannot be brought online because a duplicate IP address '10.9.8.113' was detected on the network.  Please ensure all IP addresses are unique.

3.) Event ID: 1069
Cluster resource 'SQL IP Address 1 (XYZ)' in clustered service or application 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' failed.

4.) Event ID: 1049
Cluster IP address resource 'Cluster IP Address' cannot be brought online because a duplicate IP address '10.9.8.112' was detected on the network.  Please ensure all IP addresses are unique.

5.) Event ID: 1069
Cluster resource 'Cluster IP Address' in clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' failed.

6.) Event ID: 1066
Cluster disk resource 'Cluster Disk 25' indicates corruption for volume '?Volume{88552e6f-aea2-11df-9790-0026b92fffa7}'. Chkdsk is being run to repair problems. The disk will be unavailable until Chkdsk completes. Chkdsk output will be logged to file 'C:WindowsClusterReportsChkDsk_ResCluster Disk 25_Disk16Part1.log'. 7.) Event ID : 1066
Cluster disk resource 'Cluster Disk 26' indicates corruption for volume '?Volume{88552e05-aea2-11df-9790-0026b92fffa7}'. Chkdsk is being run to repair problems. The disk will be unavailable until Chkdsk completes. Chkdsk

11.) Event ID :1069
(same message as point 5)

12.) Event ID :1205
The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

13.) Event ID: 1069
Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 17' in clustered service or application 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' failed.

14.) Event D : 1049
(same message as point 2)

15.) Event ID: 1069
Cluster resource 'SQL IP Address 1 (XYZ)' in clustered service or application 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' failed.

16.) Event ID : 1205
The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

first of all,I went through all the logs, and could not find the reason for fail-over initialization. There should be some thing logged why the failover happened? secondly after failover the service was not coming online due to duplicate IP address detection.

Later when we try  to manually bring the service online from cluster management it comes online successfully. I don't understand how would duplicate IP address get resolved when we start manually.

Lastly we see few errors related to physical disk resource between failover retries, is this could be the correlated to failover error ?

Recovery :: How To Restore Database To Existing Development Server

Aug 19, 2015

We are using SQL Server 2012 for both production and development server. Currently, i have plan to transfer the full backup of SQL server database to the development server and then restore it on the development server for testing purpose, so we don't want to disturb on the production.

I have successfully backup the database from the production server and transfer to the development server. however, i encounter some difficulties when trying to do restore. my question is:

1. do i need to firstly create an empty database on the development server and then restore it into this empty database? say i create database call "Test2", then i perform a restore into this database.

2. currently, there is already an existing database being restored previously in the development server and this database is actually the older version of the backup that being restored by the previous engineer. should i remove this database first and restore a new one or both of the database can coexist as long as we put different name for the database?

Recovery :: AlwaysOn DB Going Into Restoring State On Secondary Server

Jun 22, 2015

I noticed that after a SQL AlwaysOn failover, one of the DB in the secondary replica is stuck in Restoring state. The primary replica shows that it is in a synchronized state. These are the error logs from SSMS. How do I trace the cause of the problem?

Recovery :: Availability Group Loses Connection To Secondary Server

Jul 30, 2015

I have a SQL 2014 SP1 set of servers with two asynchronous copies of an availability group.   One of the asynchronous sites is down and SQL can no longer replicate the changes. I need to understand how long SQL Server can continue this way before the secondary replica will no longer be able to catch up. I assume this is really tied to the transaction log on the primary replica but would like it clarified.

Log Shipping Will Not Restore Tran Logs On Secondary Server

Nov 6, 2006

We're planning to implement log shipping on our databases, and I have been toiling with it all weekend trying to get it to work on some test databases. The result is the same whether I do it via the wizard or manually via T-SQL.

I am using 3 servers, all SQL Server 2005 Standard SP1. All 3 SQL Servers are configured identically.

When I setup log shipping, it initializes with no problems. When it processes the first tran log file, it restores it with no problem. Every successive log file thereafter is not restored. No errors are generated. The only outright indication of a problem is that the monitor server shows that there has not been a recent restore.

The backup and copy both suceed. The restore claims to suceed. If I review the job history for each step, it says that it skipped the log file and then reports that it did not fina any log files to restore.

Message
2006-11-06 05:00:01.92 Skipped log backup file. Secondary DB: 'MyDemo', File: 'D:MSSQLBackupMyDemoMyDemo_20061106115619.trn'

Database Restore - Norecovery/recovery

Jan 17, 2001

Hello all,

I just restored a SQL 7 db using the Enterprise Manager GUI interface. I
selected the "Leave database nonoperational, but able to restore additional transaction logs" option. I should not have selected this option as I do not have any transaction logs to apply.

Anyway, my question is... Is there a way to mark the database as opertational without running the restore again?

Thanks,
Corey

But , the log backup taken by logshipping after 10:00 PM havent been applied by log shipping and it failed with the following error.

*** Error: This log cannot be restored because a gap in the log chain was created. Use more recent data backups to bridge the gap.

Note: The primary log shippned is also involved in replication. One of the member configured replication for this log shipped database a week ago.

Any ideas.

Restore In Recovery Mode Fails Sometimes With [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013)

May 26, 2008

Hi,
I run 2 steps viz with NORECOVERY and with RECOVERY in sequence as SQP jobs. The 2nd step fails some times. When it starts failing, I run full backup of the production server again and the 2nd step starts succeding. Unless I run the full backup the 2nd step keeps on failing.

What are the conditions which generate for [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013) and how to tackle this problem.?

The 2 steps are :-
1.RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM
FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup'
WITH
Replace ,
MOVE 'arsystem' TO 'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,
MOVE 'arsystem_log' TO 'D:ARLOGARsystem' ,
NORECOVERY
GO

2.RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM
FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up'
WITH
Recovery

The status of the 2 steps is :
1 Executed as user: BPOTESTREMEDY
emedybackup. Processed 104480 pages for database 'ARSYSTEM', file 'ARSystem' on file 1. [SQLSTATE 01000] (Message 4035) Processed 1 pages for database 'ARSYSTEM', file 'ARSystem_log' on file 1. Transact SQL :: Change Db In Recovery To No-recovery And Restore Transaction Log?

May 5, 2015

in the process of migrating a big db from server 1 to server 2, we had to roll back the change. I started with taking a full db backup and restoring it on server 2 with norecovery, and then a couple logs with norecovery, and then the last log with recovery.

Is there some way to continue this chain now, I mean to change the db to norecovery, or other way to restore logs.

I dont want to do a new full backup.

If I try to do a log restore now i get the message:

Recovery :: AlwaysOn Secondary Operational State Unknown

Sep 30, 2013

I recently configured SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn Availability group using two nodes - a primary and one secondary read only replica.  The group is residing on a windows 2012 cluster with an smb file share as the quorum.  I am able to successfully failover through SQL and through the windows 2012 cluster.  When I look at the group dashboard on the primary server and view the Operational state of each node I notice an odd value.  The secondary role server is listed as Unknown.  I also noticed that the Availability replicas node icons in object explorer are displaying the same icon on the primary server but on the secondary server, the primary server is shown as a server with a question mark.

Am I missing a permissions setting or is this normal behavior.

For example:

ServerA is the primary
ServerB is the secondary
ServerA  lists the servers in Object Explorer as:

ServerA (Primary)ServerB (Secondary)
ServerB  lists the servers in Object Explorer as:

ServerA ServerB (Secondary)

The primary is never listed a primary on the secondary server.  Again failovers are working properly, but I want to be sure I am not missing a setting somewhere.

Restore Database Failed

Apr 13, 2006

Hi,

I backed up a database to drive f:, then did restore and set options to move the .mdf and .ldf files to different HDs (f: for .mdf and d: for .ldf).

During restore I got a disk IO error. The restore terminated abnormally. Now I have no DB but the .mdf and the .ldf have been moved to the HDs that I specified in the restore options.

I cannot move the .bak file from the f: it gives me an IO error when I try this. It did allow me to copy the .mdf from f: to d:

I need to know how to recover the db frm the .mdf and .ldf files. I have tried using sp_attach_db and got the following error:

An error occurred while processing the log for database 'MyDB'

Please help.

Thank you,

Jeff

Recovery :: Maintenance Task To Copy Bak File To Secondary Drive After Backup Is Complete?

Nov 6, 2015

I need to copy a just-created bak file to another drive after the backup task has completed. I don't see anything in the job toolbox which works with file system operations like this. But still it must be a common need..There are ways to script this or use third part tools but I am looking for something native to the sql server 2012 SSMS toolset, if possible.

An alternate approach would be to run the backup job again, after the main backup, and change the destination to the alternate location. But I was thinking that another backup job would probably invoke more overhead on the server than a simple file copy operation. If I do end up taking this approach I could also use the cleanup task to toss older bak files in the alt dir.

Restore SQL Server Express Databases After A Disaster Recovery

Sep 15, 2006

Hello,

I would like to restore SQL Server Express and its databases from a tape backup to the same server. This is a disaster recovery senario.

I backed up the Master, Model, MSDB and my own test database using SQLCMD scripts. I have no problem restoring these using task manager on the server before the disaster recovery.

However, in my real disaster recovery testing, When the server is restored by tape drive (HP one button disaster recovery), I try to run my SQLCMD restore scripts in task manager and I cannot connect to the sql server. Also I cannot connect with Management studio. I have recieved the following error in event viewer.

My question is, what is the correct procedure to follow when I want to do a disaster recovery and restore SQL Server Express from tape backup using the Simple Backup method and scripts.

Is it always required to reinstall sql server express from the original program file or is it possible to reinstall from back up tape.

I know my backup and restore scripts work because I tested them on the server before I do the disaster recovery and rebuild that server from tape.

This is some kind of issue with SQL Server Express being restored by tape backup.

Any suggestions, thanks.

SQL 2012 :: Transaction Log Shipping Secondary Error - Tuf Is Not A Valid Undo File For Database

Jun 18, 2015

I received an alert from one of my two secondary servers (all servers are running 2012 SP1):

File 'E:SQLMS SQL ServerMSSQL11.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAMyDatabaseName_DateTime.tuf' is not a valid undo file for database 'MyDatabaseName (database ID 8). Verify the file path, and specify the correct file.

The detail in the job step shows this additional information:

*** Error: Could not apply log backup file 'MyDatabaseName_DateTime.trn' to secondary database 'MyDatabaseName'.(Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.LogShipping) ***

*** Error: Table error: Page (0:0). Test (m_headerVersion == HEADER_7_0) failed. Values are 0 and 1.

Table error: Page (0:0). Test ((m_type >= DATA_PAGE && m_type <= UNDOFILE_HEADER_PAGE) || (m_type == UNKNOWN_PAGE && level == BASIC_HEADER)) failed. Values are 0 and 0.

Table error: Page (0:0). Test (m_freeData >= PageHeaderOverhead () && m_freeData <= (UINT)PAGESIZE - m_slotCnt * sizeof (Slot)) failed. Values are 0 and 8192.
Starting a few minutes later, the Agent Job named LSRestore_MyServerName_MyDatabaseName fails every time it runs. The generated log backup, copy, and restore jobs run every 15 minutes.

I fixed the immediate problem by running a copy-only full backup on the primary, deleting the database on the secondary and restoring the new backup on the secondary with NORECOVERY. The restore job now succeeds and all seems fine. The secondaries only exists for DR purposes - no one runs reports against them or uses them at all. I had a similar problem last weekend on a different database that is also replicated between the same servers. I've been here for over a year, and these are the first instances of this problem that I've seen. However, I've now seen it twice in a week on the same server.

I had a database in sql server 2005 under instance name 'rohitcvman'. I took its backup. The computer is formatted and sql server 2005 is installed again with instance name 'rtamrakarcvmanager'. When I try to restore it, it ends up with the following message (copied from message box).

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------

An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Too many backup devices specified for backup or restore; only 64 are allowed.
RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3205)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=08.00.0194&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=3205&LinkId=20476

OK
------------------------------

I also have its 'MDF' and 'LDF' file. When I try to attach it, I get the following message:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------
Attach database failed for Server 'rtamrakar'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.00&EvtSrc=Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplates.FailedOperationExceptionText&EvtID=Attach+database+Server&LinkId=20476

------------------------------

Could not open new database 'CVManager'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 602)

I have not tried to restore/attach in the same instance name from which it was backed up. Is it compulsory to have same instance name to attach/restore?

Can any one help me?

Thank you.

Sql Server 2005 Restore Database Error

Jan 31, 2008

I am using SQL server 2005 9.00.3042 . When I go to databases restore, restore to Northwind, from device
I select backup device and select SDLT. The actual backup device is LTO3.
The error is an exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement of batch

Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion or the server is not responding.
I checked and we have no firewall turned on this server

I tried on another SQL 2005 9.00.3042 server - this one has an SDLT drive and the error is similar
Restore headeronly is terminating abnormally
