I am not able to connect listener after manual failover.

(This is test environment)

Server1,Server3 -> Both synchronous (Within Same data center)
Server 3 -> Async (At DR location) -Forced Failover

Test1:
Failover Server1 to Server2 --> Able to connect Listener
Failover Server2 to Server1--> Able to connect Listener.
Failover Server1 to Server3--> Able to connect Listener.
Failover Server3 to Server1 or 2 --> Unable to connect Listener. Unable to ping Listener.
Failover Server 1or2 to Server3--> Able to connect Listener.

I am using below sub-nets:

Recovery :: Unable To Connect To Availability Group Listener From Remote Server Without Using FQDN

Jul 21, 2015

Environment: SQL Server 2014 on Windows Server 2012 R2.

We have our availability group configured and working.  However, when we try to connect to the AG listener from a remote server, we have to use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) to connect.  We'd like to be able to connect just using the host name.  Interestingly, ping actually resolves the IP correctly for either.

Recovery :: Server Local High Availability Using Failover Cluster And Disaster Recovery Using AlwaysOn

Aug 17, 2015

We have a requirement to build SQL environment which will give us local high availability and disaster recovery to second site. We have two sites- Site A & Site B. We are planning to have two nodes at Site A and 2 nodes at Site B. All four nodes will be part of same Windows failover cluster. We will build two SQL Cluster, InstanceA will be clustered between the nodes at Site A Server and InstanceB will be clustered between the nodes at Site B, we will enable Always On Between the InstanceA and InstanceB and will be primary owner where data will be written on InstanceA and will be replicated to InstaceB. URL....Now we want we will have instanceC on the Site B and data will be writen from the application available on Site B, will be replicated to the instance on the Site A as replica.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Manual Failover Availability Group

Dec 24, 2014

Recently after turning on trace I restarted the sql services on a box which is configured for automatic failover availability groups. The ag has not failed over to other node. The other node was in resolving state. When the restarted server is back, the AG went back to that server. I checked the sys.availability groups field for failover property failure condition level, it's set to 1 which means service restarts should initiate the failover.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Manual Failover Of HA Nodes Not Functioning

Jun 29, 2015

I have 3 node HA set up:

-MS Server 2012 R2.
-SQL 2014 EE.
-All windows updates.
-Clean install of both OS and SQL, all 3 nodes are identical.
-SQL Server is running on an alternate port, which I've opened in the firewall. Connections from all network locations are working swimmingly; including connections between all 3 nodes.
-I've got the groups up and running; Listener is set up correctly. Connections work great.
-One node is synchronous, one is asynchronous. Both show synchronized, and synchronizing respectively.
-Data added at the primary node is moved across to all 3 with lightning speed.

When I attempt a manual failover it hangs..and hangs...then pops up an error 41131 and rolls back the failover. Leaving the cluster perfectly intact and working just as it did prior to the failover attempt. What I've checked so far:

-There is absolutely NOTHING in the cluster events log.
-Windows event log shows no errors, just the standard stuff of the primary nodes state changing from primary to resolving and then back again.
-SQL Event log has a few things in there, but nothing that's leading me to a solution, I've attached the log from start to finish on an attempted manual failover:

Mirroring :: Manual Failover Did Not Get Back Database On Secondary Server?

Jun 22, 2015

I have SQL Server 2008 R2 database mirroring setup with witness. Below database connection string is used by the application

jdbc:sqlserver://<Server_A>MSSQLSERVER;databaseName=<Mirrored_DB>;port=1433;failoverPartner=<Server_B>MSSQLSERVER

During some maintenance activity at the OS side , I tried to manually failover database from Server_A to Server_B. It took long time for failover  to Server_B. While failing over the Mirrored_DB database goes in In Recovery status and application is not able to connect to database. I waited for long time more than 40 mins for database to come online on Server_B but it did not work.So I have recovered database on Server_B using RESTORE DATABASE Mirrored_DB WITH RECOVERY.

After database was recovered on Server_B application was not able to connect to database with error as "The database <Mirrored_DB> on server Server_BMSSQLSERVER is not configured for database mirroring".

My Question is

Why manual failover did not get back database on secondary server upwhy the original  connection string below is not able to connect to the database while database is online on Server_B  but without mirroring

 jdbc:sqlserver://<Server_A>MSSQLSERVER;databaseName=<Mirrored_DB>;port=1433;failoverPartner=<Server_B>MSSQLSERVER

Recovery :: Why Listener Has Two DNS Entries

May 30, 2015

why my listener has two dns entries? Shouldn't it only have the active node's address? I have the cluster RegisterAllProvidersIP set to 0. We have two synchronous local sql 2012 servers on windows 2012 r2 and one remote (different subnet) asynchronous node.  Is it safe to manually delete the dns record that's pointing to our remote listener?  Why did it add both of them?

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Read Only DNS Listener Failover Automation From Primary To Secondary

Mar 23, 2015

I have a 2 node cluster with 2 standalone 2k14 instances having alwayson setup. As per client requirement we have created a client access point with a cname alias in dns to connect to secondary replica. Now, everytime whenerver the roles switch over one has to manually move this resource from the previous secondary node to the new secondary node. This is tedious, and should not be done manually either, so I am looking for a way to automate it so that as soon as the role switches over, the resource group after some time should also switch over to the current secondary.

Env details
xa (current primary)
y2a (secondary)

client access point (resource group): aglreadtest

Recovery :: Availability Group Listener Connection Without Port

May 27, 2015

In our(my company) current design we want to switch from failover clustering to Always On as high availibility solution.

I am currently testing the availiblity Group Listener function and have two questions regarding this.

First of all, is it possible to connect to a a listener by just using its "name" instead of "name, port", it is for our users very inconvenient to start using ports. If this is possible, where can I find information on how to configure this?

Second, is it possible to use the Availiblity Group Listener as loadbalancer or in combination with a loadbalancer to split the users over two or more nodes?*note we don't use azure.

Recovery :: Combining Clustering And Availability Groups Listener

Jun 22, 2015

We are trying to build HA and DR environment, combining AG and FCI. So we have 3 servers added to a cluster, 2 of them sharing the same storage and working as ACTIVE-PASSIVE cluster instance. The other server has a stand alone instance with its local storage, with the same drivers letters as the cluster instance.

Between the Active FCI and the Stand Alone, we set up an Availability Group. They are running fine, except by the listener. When the stand alone instance owns the Primary Replica, I am able to access the SQL Server instance by the listener, but when the Primary Replica is owned by the FCI, I can't reach the database by the listener (name or IP).

I've opened the same ports in both servers, it hasn't worked though.

Recovery :: Always On Availability Listener With Multiple IP Addresses For SharePoint 2013

Apr 14, 2014

I think theres something I'm missing about AG listeners. My test config is 1 SharePoint WFE & 2 SQL servers configured in an AAG.WFE, SQL1 & SQL2 servers are all on the same subnet. On the WFE, I configured an alias called SP15 to be used for the SQL  servers. If I failover from SQL1 to SQL2 I just need to change where the alias is pointing on the WFE. So why do I need a listener? This works fine, albeit manually.I have read on some posts that an automatic failover process is possible. How can I add a 2nd IP address to the listener when both SQL servers are on the same subnet? The GUI doesn't seem to allow this.

I'd like to understand why it is not possible to automatic Failover Availability Groups using Failover Cluster Instances. I think it would be great for DR and HA. Do you understand why that limitation exists?

The link [URL] ....

SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances (FCIs) do not support automatic failover by availability groups, so any availability replica that is hosted by an FCI can only be configured for manual failover.

Below are 2 screenshots.  The first screenshot is the error.  The second screenshot is my DNS console.

Recovery :: Add Client Software To Failover Cluster?

Jul 17, 2015

The main objective is to have a third party program operate on a failover cluster.  The OS is Windows Server 2012 Datacenter loaded on 2 nodes. A virtual node exists along with supporting disks. This client software uses a SQL Server database.  SQL Server 2012 Enterprise is installed and operating in a failover environment.  However the client software is not failing over. If the connection to node A is lost, SQL Server fails over to node B.  But the client application does not.

What needs to occur in order to associate the client software with the failover cluster?  This software has 6 services total installed. Some are referred to as servers - looks like to communicate between remote client computers and the database. What is the process to associate the client software with the failover?

Recovery :: Cluster Failover - Failed To Bring Secondary Node Online?

Oct 19, 2010

Server : Windows server 2008
DB Server : SQL Server 2008 (SP1)

Here are the series of events which happened.

1.) Event ID: 1135
Cluster node 'XYZ' was removed from the active failover cluster membership. The Cluster service on this node may have stopped. This could also be due to the node having lost communication with other active nodes in the failover cluster. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapters on this node. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.

2.) Event ID: 1049
Cluster IP address resource 'SQL IP Address 1 (XYZ)' cannot be brought online because a duplicate IP address '10.9.8.113' was detected on the network.  Please ensure all IP addresses are unique.

3.) Event ID: 1069
Cluster resource 'SQL IP Address 1 (XYZ)' in clustered service or application 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' failed.

4.) Event ID: 1049
Cluster IP address resource 'Cluster IP Address' cannot be brought online because a duplicate IP address '10.9.8.112' was detected on the network.  Please ensure all IP addresses are unique.

5.) Event ID: 1069
Cluster resource 'Cluster IP Address' in clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' failed.

6.) Event ID: 1066
Cluster disk resource 'Cluster Disk 25' indicates corruption for volume '?Volume{88552e6f-aea2-11df-9790-0026b92fffa7}'. Chkdsk is being run to repair problems. The disk will be unavailable until Chkdsk completes. Chkdsk output will be logged to file 'C:WindowsClusterReportsChkDsk_ResCluster Disk 25_Disk16Part1.log'. 10.) Event ID : 1049
(same message as point 4)

11.) Event ID :1069
(same message as point 5)

12.) Event ID :1205
The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

13.) Event ID: 1069
Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 17' in clustered service or application 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' failed.

14.) Event D : 1049
(same message as point 2)

15.) Event ID: 1069
Cluster resource 'SQL IP Address 1 (XYZ)' in clustered service or application 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' failed.

16.) Event ID : 1205
The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

first of all,I went through all the logs, and could not find the reason for fail-over initialization. There should be some thing logged why the failover happened? secondly after failover the service was not coming online due to duplicate IP address detection.

Later when we try  to manually bring the service online from cluster management it comes online successfully. I don't understand how would duplicate IP address get resolved when we start manually.

Lastly we see few errors related to physical disk resource between failover retries, is this could be the correlated to failover error ?
