Recursive Complete Path On SQL SERVER 2005 ???

Apr 18, 2008

Dear,

I'm having this table:

PathIDParentPathIDPath
1 NULL D:
2 1 Sections
3 2 Bin
4 3 Data
5 4 FinancialReport.doc
6 4 DebtReport.doc
7 3 db.dll

I would like to create a store procedures that will return me a full path by passing a PathID

I started with this code:

DECLARE @path_id int
SET @path_id = 5;
WITH fullPath (PathID, ParentPathID, Path)
AS
(
SELECT PathID, ParentPathID, Path
FROM tblPath WHERE PathID = @path_id
UNION ALL
SELECT tblPath.PathID, tblPath.ParentPathID, tblPath.Path AS Path
FROM tblPath
JOIN fullPath ON tblPath.PathID = fullPath.ParentPathID
)
SELECT * FROM fullPath

This code will return this:
1 NULL D:
2 1 Sections
3 2 Bin
4 3 Data
5 4 FinancialReport.doc

What I would like to get is something like this:
D:/Sections/Bin/Data/FinancialReport.doc

Any help would be really appreciated. Lost too much time on it already.
Thanks,
pharvey

Jul 2, 2014

I'm trying to use a recursive query to find path between assembly and parts.

The BOM is similar to(I've limited the number of rows and lines):

BOM NumberMat Number
20000222001770
20000222003496
20000222001527
20000222003495
20002462002005
20005062000246

How should I modify it so that is returns the 4 path?

Path Query In Cyclic Graph? --recursive CTE

Jun 11, 2006

Hi

I wrote a simple sql query to get the shortest path length from node 1 to all the other nodes. Since there's a loop in the graph, I want to prevent it from going back to some nodes it has expanded before.

I got the following error:

Msg 253, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Recursive member of a common table expression 'CTE_Sample' has multiple recursive references.

It is referring to "and Table1.t NOT IN (select fr from CTE_Sample)"

Can somebody help me to solve it?

btw. How to use the UNION, EXCEPT or INTERSECT operators when doing the recursive join? It seems I must use UNION ALL.

Thanks!

drop table Table1
CREATE TABLE Table1 ( fr int, t int)
INSERT Table1 VALUES (1, 2)
INSERT Table1 VALUES (2, 3)
INSERT Table1 VALUES (3, 4)
INSERT Table1 VALUES (1, 3)
INSERT Table1 VALUES (1, 4)
INSERT Table1 VALUES (4, 5)

INSERT Table1 VALUES (4, 2)

GO

WITH CTE_Sample (fr, t, level) AS
(
SELECT Table1.fr, Table1.t, 1 AS level
FROM Table1
WHERE fr=1
UNION ALL
SELECT Table1.fr, Table1.t, level+1
FROM Table1
INNER JOIN CTE_Sample ON Table1.fr = CTE_Sample.t
and Table1.t NOT IN (select fr from CTE_Sample)
)
SELECT CTE_Sample.t, min(CTE_Sample.level)
FROM CTE_Sample
group by CTE_Sample.t

Transact SQL :: Verify Complete Restore Path (check For Missing Files)

Jul 29, 2015

In SQL Studio, I can go to the restore window and the click "verify backup media". This would check the restore plan listed in this window and check if some of the fileĀ are missed. Is there any way to reach this with TQSL? I know there is a "restore verify" command, but this will only verify one backup/file and not the complete restore path. I'm looking for a TSQL solution which is able to control that all necessary backup files are still present on the file System and not moved or deleted (e.g through cleanup task).

Sp_OACreate In SQL Server 2005, Fails With 'Not Enough Storage Is Available To Complete This Operation'

Jan 20, 2007

Hi all,

I have created a small COM in C# so that I can programatically create and execute stored procedures with SMO. At this point the COM has nothing in it but just a test prototype.
But when I tried to create the object as follows, I get the error indicated below.
It is not a memory issue because I have adequate storage and RAM.

Please Help!

Recursive Triggers In SQL SERVER 2005

Oct 28, 2007

I have searched the net for atmost two days to find the solution of this problem but we not able to get the solution. I would appritiate if any one could help me in solving this issue:

I have a Table :

EMPLOYEES :

EMPID EMPNAME MANAGERID
1 abc NULL
2 xyz 1
3 hty 2
4 loi 3

I want to write a trigger for deleting the EMPLOYEE with EMPID=1 and the trigger should delete all the employees as there is cascading among them i.e EMPID 1 is the Manager of EMPID=2 and so on..

I found a solution at: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa902684(sql.80).aspx
but the solution does not work when i try to implement it . It deletes the record for abc,xyz in the above table but rest are not deleted by the trigger.

Can anybody tell me the exact Trigger code......

A Complete Uninstall Of SQL 2005

May 8, 2006

I recently re-built my entire system from ground up (new hard drives, OS, etc). I now have the problem of SQL 2005 installed partially, but no way to get the management tools installed. I get an "already installed message when I try". I've never encounted this before on any other SQL install.

Sequence of events. I installed VS 2005 Pro first, then followed by SQL 2005. Somewhere this install didn't work, and I was left with the MS installed thinking I suceeded, yet none of the functions of SQL were worked or more importantly accessable.

I tried to re-install after using the ADD/Remove App from the control panel (which was sucessfull). SQL thought it was still installed. So I uninstalled VS 2005 as well, and deleted any programs in the SQL directory. Then I checked ADD/Remove programs and nothing was showing. The re-install still did not work. My guess is that the registry is still loaded with now useless entries.

Is there any solution left that does not require me to hand delete any SQL registry entries, since that is always a great way to completely kill my system.

Thanks.

How To Convert Recursive Function Into Recursive Stored Procedure

Jul 23, 2005

I am having problem to apply updates into this function below. I triedusing cursor for updates, etc. but no success. Sql server keeps tellingme that I cannot execute insert or update from inside a function and itgives me an option that I could write an extended stored procedure, butI don't have a clue of how to do it. To quickly fix the problem theonly solution left in my case is to convert this recursive functioninto one recursive stored procedure. However, I am facing one problem. How to convert the select command in this piece of code below into an"execute" by passing parameters and calling the sp recursively again.### piece of code ############SELECT @subtotal = dbo.Mkt_GetChildren(uid, @subtotal,@DateStart, @DateEnd)FROM categories WHERE ParentID = @uid######### my function ###########CREATE FUNCTION Mkt_GetChildren(@uid int, @subtotal decimal ,@DateStart datetime, @DateEnd datetime)RETURNS decimalASBEGINIF EXISTS (SELECTuidFROMcategories WHEREParentID = @uid)BEGINDECLARE my_cursor CURSOR FORSELECT uid, classid5 FROM categories WHERE parentid = @uiddeclare @getclassid5 varchar(50), @getuid bigint, @calculate decimalOPEN my_cursorFETCH NEXT FROM my_cursor INTO @getuid, @getclassid5WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0BEGINFETCH NEXT FROM my_cursor INTO @getuid, @getclassid5select @calculate = dbo.Mkt_CalculateTotal(@getclassid5, @DateStart,@DateEnd)SET @subtotal = CONVERT (decimal (19,4),(@subtotal + @calculate))ENDCLOSE my_cursorDEALLOCATE my_cursorSELECT @subtotal = dbo.Mkt_GetChildren(uid, @subtotal,@DateStart, @DateEnd)FROM categories WHERE ParentID = @uidENDRETURN @subtotalENDGORod

Subject: BCM Install Error - Logfile && SQL Path Path && MSSQL.1?

Apr 16, 2008

When trying to install Business Contact Manager (BCM) for Outlook 2007, the setup failed and I was refered to a log file in my Local Settings/Temp folder. The log actually says that Business Contact Manager was installed sucessfully! BCM is supposed to install SQL Express 2005 as an instance or as instance if SQL Express is already installed. There is an MSSMLBIZ instance in Services..

Who can I send the Log File to for analysis and the fix feedback?

When I first went into Computer Management and clicked on Services and Applications in the left panel, the error message appeared "Snap-in failed to intialize. Name: SQL Server Configuration Manager CLSID:{CA9F8727-31DF-41D2-975C-887D84903967} This message diappeared when I clicked on Services and Applications again. Under Services, there are 3 SQL services - one is an application that was uninstalled 3-4 weeks ago and I disabled this service. The other 2 are: SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) and the other one is SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) When I tried to start either of the last 2, the message appeared: Services "Could not start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service on Local Computer. Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified. Under Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/MSSGL.1 folder is mostly empty. So, it seems like the Path in the Registry is not valid and that nothing is being installed in the MSSQL.1 folder. If so, how do I fix this?

How do I get the BCM SQL instance to install and run properly? what do the messages in Services mean and how do I resolve these.

Thank you!

Path Setting For SQL 2005

Jun 25, 2007

I used SQL 2000 before. There are options for setting program files path and data path, which I usually install programs on C: and then data files in D: for easier maintenance. However, I cannot find this options in SQL 2005. Is that both (program files and data) must be locate in the same drive/path? or how can I do it same as SQL 2000? Please advise. Many thanks.

Using SQL Server From A Service - How To Tell If Recovery Is Complete?

Jan 31, 2008

I have a service (Windows service that is) that's set to automatic startup. The service makes use of one or more SQL server databases and is configured with a startup dependency on SQL Server.

Problem is, the service control manager considers that startup dependency to be satisfied once the SQL server service process successfully starts, but connections from within my service to my databases won't actually succeed until recovery on at least those databases is complete.

Of course, I can do something mundane like retry failed connections a few times, or ensure that I don't attempt to connect to a database until some hard-wired amount of system uptime has passed, but those solutions are just band-aids. The Right Answer, it seems to me, would be to detect when SQL Server has finished recovery and not attempt to connect to my databases before that time.

So, is there any way to determine if SQL server has completed recovery programatically? On a server-wide basis or on an individual database basis? I'm assuming that my service would need to connect to SQL Server with some high-powered credentials (sa or equivalent) to get that information, but that's not a problem in my application.

Any pointers appreciated!

Identifying The Database Path In 2005

May 5, 2008

Hi-

I have installed a SQL 2005 software and created 4 instances and 4 databases on each server namely , Adventureworks , sample , testdb1, testdb2.

After creating these many databases , i was very confused to find out the actual database files in Programfiles directory as each instance was created in a separate directory namely MSSQL.1 , MSSQL.2...etc.

how do i identify the correct database path for sample database in instance3.

is there any system tables or stored proc that i can user to identify this path.

SQL 2005 Default Installation Path

Dec 13, 2006

In sql 2000, during the installation an option was given to allow the installer to install to a different drive or path, however in sql 2005, I do not see an option. During the installation it does give you the option of installing via the command line interface, however this would be the last option. If this is the only method of installing sql 2005 for a different data drive path, then please provide the command line to do this. I've used the command line osql/isql to restore db's in sql 2000/msde and it's a pain.

Restore A Complete SQL Server Installation Into A New Clean One

Oct 13, 1998

A customer is about to replace their PDC with SQL Server running on it.
MY companies role is to build the new server, and get their SQL Server running again.
I need to have the devices, databases, tables, data and the USERS copied across. I cannot use transfer manager as their will be only 1 instance of SQL Server running on the network.

If all we have is an NT backup is perfomed on the entire disk, i.e. the MSSQL/DATA directory.
How do we recreate the databases and their associated tables and also, how do we recreate the User accounts ?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Please feel free to e-mail me with a response

'Run Package' Works On Server, But Doesn't Complete As Job.

Mar 10, 2008

I have an SSIS package is made up of SQL tasks and dataflows. The dataflows connect to an Oracle database using Native OLE DBOracle Provider for OLE DB (10g). This is the first package dealing with oracle that runs on the server.
I can execute the package manually by right clicking and going to 'Run Package' while logged in remotely from the server, but it gets hung up and does nothing if I run it as a job. I always have to quit the job. I can disable everything but the dataflows in the package and the job completes and runs fine.

Anyone have any ideas or similiar situations?

Thanks.

SQL Server Reporting Services Query COMPLETE WHERE CLAUSE PARAMETER?

Aug 22, 2007

Hello--I do not know if this group can help me with SQL Server Reporting Services ... but here it goes. I have a report built on a query and I want to be able to send a parameter (@theWhere) that is a string which is a where clause "(MEGLOMART_TYP_CODE <> 'XYZ' AND MEGLOMART_STAFF_SHORTAGE > 25)" these strings can vary depending on what columns the user selects and what operators they want to use. Generation of proper SQL for the where clause has been verified, I just need to be able to pass these, is there any way to do this...see example query below and how I was planning on using the @theWhere variable...

Thanks!

Recovery :: Backup Server Instance Including COMPLETE Configuration

Nov 8, 2015

There is a lot of documention concerning data(base) backups, but I could not find information about how to backup a complete SQL Server instance (data + configuration) or the SQL server configuration (= everything, that is not user payload). you always re-configure your system after restoring, especially because you will forget some settings?I found following things necessary to backup configuration:

server-wide:
security: login, roles, ...
server objectsserver properties (e.g. collation, connection or memory settings; see SSMS "Server - Properties")
per database
database settings (SSMS - database - properties)scheme

1. Is there anything missing? In case of a severe system crash I would like to be able to recover the system using a full system image of the virtual machine. However I just create these images after significant changes (e.g. Windows service pack). The SQL server should be backuped independently from these system images.

2. Even if I used SQL Server maintenance plan, choose "backup all databases" and additionally backup resources DB manually I think, that some configuration is still missing, right? Where are the security configuration and server properties saved? In my system database there are some tables, but there is very little content inside, so that the data from the views INFORMATION_SCHEMA* and sys.* obviously is not saved there.SQL Server system objects, such as sys.objects, are physically persisted in theResource database, but they logically appear in the sys schema of every database. URL....What does that mean: Are all DB/table schemes, logins, ... saved in resource DB?

3. Does a usual SQL Server full database backup also contain all settings concerning this database (database properties, logins, ...)?

4. Is there at least a way to backup ONLY the configuration (server-wide and database) without data? The only tool I could find is DACPAC, that exports a database's scheme and some other configuration, but e.g. the database propertiesĀ are not included: By default, the database created during the deployment will have the default settings from the CREATE DATABASE statement. The exception is that the database collation and compatibility level are set to the values from the source database. URL..

SQL Server 2012 :: Many To Many Recursive CTE

Feb 17, 2014

I have the following table:-

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[TransactionComponents](
[pkTransactionComponent] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[pkTransactionID] [int] NOT NULL,
[ComponentID] [int] NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]

With the following data:-

INSERT [dbo].[TransactionComponents]([pkTransactionID], [ComponentID])
SELECT 1,5
UNION SELECT 1,6
UNION SELECT 1,7
UNION SELECT 1,8

[Code] ....

pkTransactionID and ComponentID both link to the same column on another table this enables a many to many relationship, what I need to figure out is a complete tree of relationships from one of the ID's in it. I think I need to write a recursive CTE to achieve this but I am not entirely sure how to write it. Below is my attempt:-

DECLARE @ID INT
SET @ID = 1;
WITH
cteTxHeirachy (TxID, RelTxID, TxLevel)

[Code] ...

This returns:-

15
16
17
18
19
110

But the following are missing:-

10 2
2 11
2 12

3 and 4 should not be returned. I figured if I added the code that is commented out in the CTE that should give me everything but I think I get caught in an infinite loop.

SQL Server 2014 :: Selecting And Merging Records For Singular Complete Record

Jan 24, 2015

I have a database full of different types of leads some for company A some for company B and so on, each doing a different service. However the leads from B can be used for A and leads from A can be used for B, so I want to merge the data.

Example:

Phone Number Name Home Owner Credit Insurance
727-555-1234 Dave Thomas Yes B
727-555-1234 Dave Thomas Gieco

I would like the end result to be one record:

Phone Number Name Home Owner Credit Insurance
727-555-1234 Dave Thomas Yes B Gieco

Since these were imported into SQL they all have a unique ID, here are the current labels

ID,phone_ number,first_ name,last_name,address1, address2, address3,city,state,postal_code,HOME_OWNR,HH_INCOME,CREDIT_RATING,AGE,MATCH,source_id,
title,comments,dnc_flag,provider,vehicle,coverage,alt_phone,email,marital status,dob

SQL Server 2014 :: SSIS Packages Are Reporting Complete Before Finished Loading

Apr 26, 2015

We've recently upgraded to SQL Server 2014, and are now using SSIS integrated with Visual Studio. We have a SSIS project which contains about 20 packages which are nested in Sequence Containers and executed concurrently. These packages have been set up as project references.

The problem is that when I press the start button to run the packages, they all light up green reporting completion before the data has finished loading into the SQL database. If I press the stop button without waiting a sufficient length of time, then not all of the data gets loaded. i.e. a certain number of rows will be missing from some of the SQL tables.

If I click through to the individual package items and check the data flow progress while running, some of the data flows appear to hang at a certain number of rows without ever reaching completion. The number of rows indicated in the data flow is incorrect - i.e. it will count up to ~150,000 and stay there indefinitely in the running state, when in actual fact there are ~500,000 rows to load.

To clarify, the main package will show all items green and display the "Finished: Success" message in the log window, however when I drill through to certain packages in the set, they'll be stuck in the yellow running state, with no way of knowing whether they've actually completed or not.

My current workaround is to just wait a certain length of time before pressing the stop button. This bug doesn't seem to inhibit rows being loaded - it just incorrectly identifies the point when the load finishes, causing people to terminate the load prematurely.

This issue only occurs if I run the project from the main package container. If I execute the child packages individually, they correctly report the number of rows being loaded and light up green once complete.

'Recursive Stored Procedure In SQL SERVER

Aug 31, 2003

Hi,

I have 2 SQL SERVER tables MSTHDRML (Header table) & MSTDTLML(details Table)

MSTHDRML

MLID int 4
MLITemID int 4
ConcatStringvarchar 20
EffectiveDateFromsmalldatetime
EffectiveDateTodatetime

MSTDTLML

MLID int40
ItemID int40
ConcatStringvarchar201
Qty money81

The MLID in the header table will be generated automatically. All the Parents will be stored in the HEADER and their childs in the DETAIL.When a child is added to a parent, the Parent's MLID will be stored in the MLID field in the DETAIL table with the newly added child. That child will come to the PARENT table when a child is added to that. The MLITEM id in the parent table can be repeated when that item undergoes a rivision. But the MLID for this will be a new one.An item in the Parent Table can have any number of childs and these childs can have any number of children(there is no limit for the level.)

Some Sample Data

MSTHDRML
--------------
MLIDMLITemID ConcatStringEffectiveDateFromEffectiveDateTo
11000 56V 01/06/200331/12/9999
21003 Red 01/08/200331/12/9999
31001 01/08/200331/12/9999
41007 01/08/200331/12/9999
51008 01/08/200331/12/9999
61002 01/08/200331/12/9999
71005 01/08/200331/12/9999
82000 01/08/200331/12/9999

MSTDTLML
--------------
MLIDItemIDConcatStringQty
11001Round 10
11002Square 20
21004Blue 19
11005Green 22
31007Flat 223
41008 100
51009 200
61010 11
71011 22
71010 45
71012 454
82001 5

Now if i select an item id '1000' (for example from the Header Table) with a concatstring (it could be without a concat string also).all its childs and their children should be printed in a report like the following

1000
|
--- 1001
| |
| --1007
| |_ 1008
----1002 |__1009
| |_1010
|
----1005

************************************************** ***************************
I NEED TO CREATE THE TREE USING BOTH THE HEADER(MSTHDRML) AND THE DETAIL TABLE(MSTDTLML)
************************************************** ***************************

How can this be done.Is it necessary to use a recursive function in a stored procedure to generate this ...... i have never used Recursive function in SQL SERVER Stored Procedures. Can anyone help me on this(with Code).if not stored procedure, then what else can be done for this.

Recursive/Tree Queries In SQL Server.

Feb 18, 1999

Dear fellows,
Can anybody tell me how can i apply recusive/Tree query using select
statement.
For example I've a table structure for an Organization as follows:

TableName: Employee_tbl
Fields: emp_id, emp_name, supervisor_id

emp_id emp_name supervisor_id
---------- --------------- -------------------
101 ZAFIAN
102 BRUNNER 101
108 CALLAHAN 102
105 RUSSO 102
110 SIM 102
103 DUELL 101
and so on

1. How can I get the above records in Hirarchical format starting from top
or from anywhere else in the hierarchy?

In Oracle it can be done as follows:
SELECT emp_id,emp_name,supervisor_id
FROM employee_tbl
CONNECT BY supervisor_id = PRIOR emp_id
START WITH supervisor_id is null;

Please reply me at the following address if possible:

SELECT '7419-01','48342-00',1 union all
SELECT '7419-01','49342-00',1 union all

From the above table data i want a search query , for example if I search data with "52342-00" I want output to be below format using CTE.

NULL,'7419-01',0
'7419-01','52342-00',1
'7419-01','52342-00',1
