I have migrated an existing ASP.net 1.1 application into ASP.net 2.0. After correcting the reported errors and warnings the application builds without any errors. I have a login page for users (AuthorLogin.aspx) that receives input from the user and checks the database to determine if the user is valid. If the user is in the database they are directed to a navigation page. The SqlDataAdapter used to access the SQL 2000 database causes the above error when I try to pass parameters to it using the input by the user. The dataadapter was added on the using the component designer for the AuthorLogin.aspx page. The parameters are the user's email address and a password. The dataadapter fills a dataset. If the dataset's rows are >0 then the user is redirected. The dataadapter and dataset are declare on the.vb code behind page as "protected with events...." Here is the code I am using. Public Sub AuthorLoginValidate() 'use the email and password text values as parameters DA_AuthorLogin.SelectCommand.Parameters.Item("@AuthorEmail").Value = AuthorLoginEmail.Text DA_AuthorLogin.SelectCommand.Parameters.Item("@AuthorPassword").Value = AuthorLoginPassword.Text MDData.Open() DA_AuthorLogin.Fill(DS_AuthorLogin, "T_Author") MDData.Close() 'if the database has an existing record then add session objects and redirect If DS_AuthorLogin.T_Author.Rows.Count > 0 Then Session.Add("AuthorAlias", DS_AuthorLogin.T_Author.Rows(0).Item("AuthorAlias")) Session.Add("PreferredName", DS_AuthorLogin.T_Author.Rows(0).Item("PreferredName")) Session.Add("LastName", DS_AuthorLogin.T_Author.Rows(0).Item("LastName")) Response.Redirect("AuthorPaths.aspx") Else : AuthorLoginNotValid.Visible = True Exit Sub End If End Sub Steps I have taken.
Reordered the parameters. Whichever parameter occurs first in the code throws the error Set the parameters to a string instead of the user's input. The error still occurs. Previewed the data to make sure the dataadapter and dataset are working correctly. They are. Double-clicked the dataadapter and dataset to determine if the .vb code page will open with a new sub for the dataadapter or datatable. It does. Declared the dataadapter explicitly at the beginning of the code. "Dim DA_AuthorLogin as new system.data.sqlclient......... You get the idea. This causes a warning that the dataadapter has not been assigned a value. I don't want to assign a value. I want to retrieve data. I have tried to use the datasource control but this seems designed specifically for the datagrid, datalist, etc and it must be assigned a value I have tried to use a dataset designed to use a datatableadapter and a datatable. This throws the same error. I found a MSDN KB article that said to register the adodb file in the configured assemblies. I ran this command line as stated. It did not help. This code worked well in my .net 1.1 application. I know other data adapters work in the application. Help please. What will work? I am about to go back to my .net 1.1 application and forget Visual Studio.net 2005 simply because I cannot access the data. Thanks, David
I am attempting to create a program that will run on the PocketPC 2003 environment. I have upgraded Visual Studio to SP1, I have installed SQL Server Compact Edition on my development machine and I have installed SQL Server Compact Edition Tools For Visual Studio on the development machine.
I have created a new project Visual Basic - Smart Device - Pocket PC 2003. I have created a form for user input. I build and deploy the form to the Symbol Pocket PC to test - no connection to data and it works.
I then add a reference to System.Data.SqlServerCE.dll and rebuild and redeploy the application to the handheld. When I attempt to open the form I receive the following error:
at System.Resources.ResourceReader.LoadObjectV2() at System.Resources.ResourceReader.LoadObject() at System.Resources.RuntimeResourceSet.GetObject() at System.Resources.ResourceManager.GetObject() at System.Resources.ResourceManager.GetObject() at pmsPocket.frmSetSOPType.InitializeComponent() at psmPocket.frmSetSOPType..ctor() at System.Reflection.RuntimeContructorInfo.InternalInvoke() at System.Reflection.RuntimeContructorInfo.InternalInvoke() at System.Reflection.ContrcutorInfo.Invoke() at System.Activator.CreateInstance() at MyForms.Create__Instance__() at MyForms.get_frmSetSOPType() at psmPocket.SetSOPType.Main()
Now the confusing part is that I haven't changed any of the forms or the code behind the forms, I have simply added the reference to the project.
Any idea why adding the reference to System.Data.SqlServerCE.dll would cause the system to start generating these errors?
I've checked, the install process has loaded the .NET 2 framework to the handheld. And as indicated at the beginning of this message, the application showed the form prior to my adding the reference.
The following SQL statements give me an error on the last line:
CREATE TABLE Employees (id int PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL, name nvarchar(50)); CREATE TABLE RandomTable (uniq int PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL, empid1 int NOT NULL, empid2 int NOT NULL); ALTER TABLE RandomTable ADD CONSTRAINT RandomTable_FKey_1 FOREIGN KEY (empid1) REFERENCES Employees (id) ON DELETE CASCADE; ALTER TABLE RandomTable ADD CONSTRAINT RandomTable_FKey_2 FOREIGN KEY (empid2) REFERENCES Employees (id) ON DELETE CASCADE;
The error is:
"The referential relationship will result in a cyclical reference that is not allowed."
Um...how is this cyclical? Is it because I have multiple cascade paths? If so, how do I go about doing the same thing?

I've got code that on my own machine (visual studio .net 2003 and iis and sql server all exist on this box) works great. I display my test page, which loads a dropdownlist on page_load. This works great on my own machine.
When I move the code to our dev environment. Web server and database servers on separate boxes. I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when i try to open the connection to the database. I thought it had to do with permissions and I check all through sql server and everything looks great. I then thought it was the connection string. I still haven't ruled this out, but I wrote a quick vbscript app to attach to the database and try to pull a record. The vbscript worked fine. So, the code works fine on my computer, but not on the web server. The connection does work with vbscript, but through my asp.net web app I get the "object reference" error.
All code below...

In database projects, VS2015, I want to create some views for me database that will reference another database table using 3 part naming reference.
Works fine in SSMS but when I try and build me project I is throwing up a reference error.
I can't import the other database into this project, so is there a way to suppress the error? I don't really want to exclude these view from the project.
I am using VB.NET 2002 and we have set up a test environment running SQL Server 2005.
I am trying to add a reference to Microsoft.SQLServer.ManagedDTS.dll which is required to run a DTS/SSIS package from VB.NET.
However the dll does not show in my add reference listing so when I select BROWSE and select the actual DLL I get a rather long error message telling me that only 'dll' and COM components can be referenced.
The exact message is:

Only assemblies with extension 'dll' and COM components can be referenced. Please make sure that the file is accessible, and that it is a valid assembly or COM component.

Hello All, i have 2 files in excel which i am uploading them to a folder which is located in the root directory. then i am importing these two files into a sqldatabase. i needed some help in importing them and i got it from my previous post at http://forums.asp.net/t/1261155.aspx but now i have a problem. the import works perfectly first time but when i do it the second time i am getting an error on of the file (header). to explain clearly, what i am doing is , every time i upload a new file , i am deleting the data from the tables, so the new data can be inserted ( basically trying to achieve overwirting the existing data). now this technique works fine with the Detail table but not with the Header table. i think the reason is the header table has a primary key on OrderID and a relationship does exists between the Header and Detail. now how would i overcome this error. can some one please guide me. I really appreciate it.here is my code: // connection for header file protected OleDbCommand headExcelConnection() { // Connect to the Excel Spreadsheet string headConnStr = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" + "Data Source=" + Server.MapPath("~/imports/headerorder.xls") + ";" + "Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;"; // create your excel connection object using the connection string OleDbConnection headXConn = new OleDbConnection(headConnStr); headXConn.Open(); // use a SQL Select command to retrieve the data from the Excel Spreadsheet // the "table name" is the name of the worksheet within the spreadsheet // in this case, the worksheet name is "Sheet1" and is expressed as: [Sheet1$]

I have a custom assembly that uses a config file to obtain database connection settings. This dll is then used by my sql report. I have added refrerenced to all the required dll's in my report and added the required code groups to all the necessary files. I have also placed my app.config file in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesReportServer and C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEPrivateAssemblies However when I actually run the report in the designer (vs2005) I am receiving Null reference exceptions when my code tries to read my config file because it is reading the machine.config file and not my app.config file. If I hard code my connection string everything works fine.
Can anyone tell me why the machine.config file would be referenced instead of my app.config file and how I can stop it from doing this?
On my aspx Web page, I want to delete a member from database table 'tblMember', but if this MemberID is used as FK in another table, I want to display a user friendlier message like "You cannot delete this member, ....." I am using Try, Catch blocks in my Web Page.
Currently it display this message: "DELETE statement conflicted with COLUMN REFERENCE constraint 'FK_..._....' The conflict occurred in database '...', table 'tblMembers', column 'MemberID'. The statement has been terminated. "
So how should I precisely trap this error? Does anybody know what Exception is it? or what error number in SQL server?
Facing a strange problem, but obviously not expected earlier on, I am trying to execute a stored procedure via ADO which refrences a linked server table and I get an error specifying " OLEDB provider SQLOLEDB does not contain table "<DatabaseName>"."<owner>"."<tableName>" "
Has any one else encountered this problem before ? regards Govind

Help! I have posted this before and I had hoped that the VS2005 SP1 would help my problem. It didn't. My code is shown below. I have dropped a sqlconnection, sqldataadapter and a strongly-typed dataset from the toolbox onto the component designer for my page and written my code. It compiles without any errors but at runtine I receive the system error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The error occurs at the first line where the sqldataadapter is mentioned. I have shufflled the code and the error still occurs at first mention of the dataadapter. I have set parameters to a simple string such as "myemail." It hasn't helped. I have used the "Dim" statement as "Dim DaAuthorLogin as System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataadapter and Dim DaAuthorLogin as New ......) at the start of the private sub generated by the event requiring the data. Nothing helps. Here is my simple code to select data from a sqlserver 2000 database. Why do I continue to get this error? I am trying to develop a custom algorithm. I have implemented and tested training methods, however I fail at prediction phase. When I try to run a prediction query against a model created with my algorithm I get:
Executing the query ... Obtained object of type: Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdDataReader COM error: COM error: DMPluginWrapper; Object reference not set to an instance of an object.. Execution complete
I know this is not very descriptive, but I have seen that algorith doesn't even executes my Predict(..) function (I can test this by logging to a text file) So the problem is this, when I run prediction query DMPluginWrapper gives exception -I think- even before calling my custom method.
As I said it is not a very descriptive message but I hope I have hit a general issue.
Just installed VS 2005 & SQLServer 2005 clients on my workstation. When trying to create a new Integration Services Project and start work in the designer receive the MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' dialog box with message "Creating project 'Integration Services project1'...project creation failed."
Previously I had SQLServer 2000 client with the little VS tool that came with it installed. Uninstalled these prior to installing the 2005 tools (VS and SQLServer).
I'm not finding any information on corrective action for this error.
I am trying to execute this code feom Script task while excuting its giving me error that "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The assemblies Iam referening in this code are there in GAC. Any idea abt this.
Thanks,

fileVarName = "vsReportDownloadFilename"
' create SessionID for use with HD Custom authentication
CusAuth = New CustomAuth(ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(Dts.Variables("in_vsBatchKey").Value.ToString()))
For the life of me I cannot figure out why i'm getting the "Object Refence Not Set To an Instance of An Object" error after I try and create a Report Services project in Business Intelligence Studio. I've followed all of the steps in similar posts such as checking the ReportServer/web.config file but everything checks out.
Does anyone have any other ideas as to how I can get rid of this annoying error and start creating some reports?

DECLARE Loan_cursor CURSOR FOR SELECT Loan_No,store FROM loan WHERE maturity_date > '2001-04-30' and loan_no like 'ABL%'
OPEN Loan_cursor
-- Perform the first fetch. FETCH NEXT FROM Loan_cursor

CLOSE Loan_cursor DEALLOCATE Loan_cursor
when l run the cursor l get the error Server: Msg 207, Level 16, State 3, Line 15 Invalid column name 'Loan_No'. . If l reference it as Set @LoanNo = LoanTable.Loan_No l get the error
Server: Msg 107, Level 16, State 3, Line 15 The column prefix 'loan' does not match with a table name or alias name used in the query. All l'm trying to do is to compare the loan number that l get from the cursor to the value in the loans table. Maybe reference is a better word
