Internet Explorer Page Not Found

Jun 11, 2007

Greetings All,

I installed SQL 2000 with SP4 on a 2003 Server. I added a NT Group to the Server and created 2 users exactly the same in the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

My issuse is with the other user I created. When I go to a database in the Server Enterprise Manager and right click on tables, and select New Table with my user, the New Table window pops up with no problem. When the other user follows the exact same steps, Internet Explorer opens up and says page not found.

Is this an SQL Issue or maybe an IIS issue?

Thanks in advance.

Benefit Of Multiple Databases?

Apr 11, 2007

Hi !

We're designing our data model, and have found that we have two groups of tables (about 10 tables in each group). The tables within each group are dependent, but the two groups are independent of eachother.

Now, our two choices are:

1. Put all tables into one database.

2. Put the two groups into two separate databases.

For simplicity, option 1 is the winner. However, my question is, will there be noticeable peformance benefits by using two databases? (In which case, option 2 will be the winner).

Thanks,

Martin

BIP Portal

Mar 22, 2004

Hi everyone,

I've just installed the BIP portal on an Application Server running Windows 2000 with the latest Service Pack and I choose to install the BIP database on a database Server. I've put my user in the BIP_ADMIN on the Application server's local windows user-group and also in the BIP_USERS role on the database BIP. If I try to browse the URL on the the application server it works well, but when I try to browse from my local machine thorough the network I get the following message: User 'AGFBRASILGAVieira' do not currently have access to the database. Please add the user to 'BIP_USERS' user group on SQL server's machine or contact the system administrator.

Anyone could help me?

Thanks in advance,

Genilson from São Paulo, Brazil.

Portal Available?

Jun 10, 2007

Hey, anyone recommend an interface/portal that can connect to MS SQL SERVER? I've seen a couple, but haven't like them at all. It would be much easier if I could do the quick stuff I need to do from my desktop and just connecting in, rather then jumping on the server which I do now. Any good ones out there, that kind of do it all?

Thanks!

Any Benefit From Filtering In Join Vs. The Where Clause?

Jul 29, 2005

Just curious. The exec plan is the same for both qry's, and they both show the same estimated row counts @ the point of question in the exec plan. The exec times are roughly the same, any variances I'm attributing to db load from other things going on, since any benefits of one over the other are not consistent from execution to execution. So is there any benefit to filtering in the join conditions vs. the where clause? My thinking was that by filtering earlier in the qry (when joining) as opposed to "waiting" to do it in the where clause, the rest of the qry after the join would inherently be dealing w/a smaller result set for the rest of it's execution, thus improving performance. After the exec plan checking I did, I guess I was wrong. Seems that Sql Server is intelligent about such filtering when analyzing the entire qry, and building its execution accordingly. The execution plan for both qry's showed the same where clause argument for the tables being joined.

Filtering in where clause....

Code:

select...
FromtProject p with (noLock)
jointProjectCall pc with (noLock) on P.ID = pc.project_id
jointStore S with (noLock) on pc.store_id = s.id
jointZip Z with (noLock) on Z.zip5 = s.zip5
jointManager M on M.ID = case ... end
leftjoin
(
selectprojectCall_RecNum as RecNum, sum(answer) as HoursUsed
fromtCall C
whereAnswer > 0 and question_id in (1, 2)
group by projectCall_Recnum
) as C on pc.recnum = c.recnum
wherepc.removed = 0
andp.cancelled = 0
andp.deleted = 0
ands.closed = 0
ands.deleted = 0
andyear(getDate()) between year(P.startDate) and year(P.expDate)

Filtering in joins...

Code:

select...
FromtProject p with (noLock)
jointProjectCall pc with (noLock) on P.ID = pc.project_id
and pc.removed = 0
and p.cancelled = 0
and p.deleted = 0
and year(getDate()) between year(P.startDate) and year(P.expDate)
jointStore S with (noLock) on pc.store_id = s.id
jointZip Z with (noLock) on Z.zip5 = s.zip5
and s.closed = 0
and s.deleted = 0
jointManager M on M.ID = case ... end
leftjoin
(
selectprojectCall_RecNum as RecNum, sum(answer) as HoursUsed
fromtCall C
whereAnswer > 0 and question_id in (1, 2)
group by projectCall_Recnum
) as C on pc.recnum = c.recnum

Any Benefit To Logical Partitions On A RAID 5 Array?

Mar 23, 2000

Hi all,

Quick question in setting up a 3-disk SQL 7.0 system - can anyone think of a benefit to segregating a single RAID 5 disk array into numerous logical partitions for separating out the OS, the database files and the transaction logs? I would assume performance would be unaffected (as the drives are acting as a single array for reads & writes anyway) so other than general organization what (if any) advantage would be gained over making a single large logical partition?

Will Buffer Pool Extensions Have Benefit If Already On SSDs?

Sep 24, 2015

I am reading about Buffer Pool Extensions, and how it stores data pages on media like an SSD, to speed up retrieval in future. Would this be useless if my mdf files are already on SSD media? At most, I envisage it meaning that instead of grabbing the data from the mdf, it would grab the data from the buffer pool extension drive, but if they are both on SSD's, I'm not sure of how much return I would see.

Has any user decided to use BPE when their data is already on SSD's, and have they noticed any improvement in these cases?

Benefit Of Moving Master && TempDB To Diff HD

I am interested to hear if people think it would be a good idea to movethe Master & TempDB to a different HD.Here is my DB Server's set up:1. (3) SCSI HD make up a hardware RAID level 0 (striped withoutparity)solution - these striped drives are just for my working DBs4. (1) SCSI HD that's not doing anything.I want to put the Master & TempDB on the SCSI HD that's not doinganything. Would that be the best place for it for maximum performance orshould I put in the striped array. I am leaning more towards putting onthe SCSI HD that's not doing anything. Would This Scenario Benefit From SQL Server 2005 64bit?

Oct 2, 2007

We have an application where part of the database is used for searching products and is very processor intensive due to the number of permutations and calculation that are required. This section of the database is scaled out by using transactional replication so that the €œsearch€? load is removed from central database€™s daily operations.

Each €œsearch€? server can handle around 15,000 search an hour with SQL taking about 3 seconds to return the result in XML (the system has be optimised to squeeze out every last bit of performance). This is in a 32bit environment. One other point, which is probably relevant, is that the Search data only totals 500MB.

With the possibility of upgrading these severs in the near future would we see any performance benefits in going 64bit. I know we won€™t take advantage of increased memory access due to the size of the search data but is there any discernable performance advantage between 32bit v€™s 64 bit processors and SQL Server 2005 64Bit. Or should I stick with SQL Workgroups and 32bit processor and save on the Standard SQL licence?

Many thanks

Connectivity Portal (WIKI)

Nov 15, 2006

Hi All,

Wouldn€™t it be nice to have a single portal to check the list of data sources SSIS can connect to? Like, if and how SSIS can connect to SAP/Oracle/DB2/SQL Server/etc? along with what to expect from that connection, such as 64-bit support, fast data load option, scalability, etc?

The know-how around connectivity in SSIS has particularly been challenging to structure in terms of gathering and reaching all sorts of connectors and data sources out there.

The challenge is due to two main reasons:

Microsoft does not have central command/control on connector developers, and the connectivity story for SSIS has mainly been the support around ADO.NET, Ole DB and ODBC libraries. Since we don€™t have a certification process, it€™s up to the customer to evaluate a specific third party connector before making a decision on using it.

The extensibility story offered by SSIS inherently promotes development of new/specialized connectors to new/existing data sources. Since any application can talk to any other application given the right connector, the pool of supported connectors keep growing over time.

We are working to make this story better, but in the mean time, because of this ever growing nature of connectors and their features, I thought a WIKI portal can help this community in terms of formalizing/structuring/sharing information.

And thus, I am launching a new wiki site on connectivity. Well€¦Blogs are kind of not as cool these days anyways J MSDN has a recent wiki initiative, but it is not quite involving the community as I€™d like to have in this one.

We have a great talent pool and a huge base of know-how around connectivity in this forum. Let€™s channel that into sorting out connectivity!

I created the initial site framework and provided simple samples here : http://ssis.wik.is/Home

I€™ll add more stuff to it in the coming days as well, but I really want this forum to be actively editing/providing content in there.

Please take a look at it, and start growing/editing it. -> http://ssis.wik.is/Home

Ideas/questions/feedback are all welcome, you can also e-mail me directly at denizerkan@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Deniz Erkan

PS: this is not in conflict or competition with the forum. Forum interface does not have a way to structure data to build a know-how, and the scope of this initiative is SSIS connectivity-only.

Tables Design And Linking For A Job Portal

Feb 28, 2008

Hi,

Currently i am developing a job portal in ASP 2.0, SQL Server 2005 which involves Job Seeker registration, Searching of resumes, applying for job Posting, Employer Registration, Create Job Posting, Searching for Job Seeker etc.
The Job Seeker is allowed to upload a word document of size up to 500Kb which is stored in Table as varbinary.

Right now I have MemberShip/Roles in seperate database. The Job Portal Tables are in seperate Database. I was told to split the Tables so that Tables of JobSeeker are One database and Employer to another Database so that they speed up the performance.

I have several tables that bridge (thats either store id's of Job Seeker or Employer) like Job Postings applied, Saved Postings Job Seeker, Job Postings of the Employer, Job Posting (Applied ones) alert etc.

Can any give me how to create a good Database design (one or more) with excellent performation. Right now I have one Database for Job Portal related tables excluding membership. The mapping of key fields including the fields that are enabled for Text indexing are given below.

(JobSeekerTable - Stores Personal Details)
JobSeekerId (PK)
...............

(JobSeekerResumeTable - Stores Resume Details)
JobSeekerResumeId (PK)
JobSeekerId (FK)
Job Title (enabled Text Indexing)
........

(JobSeekerDocTable - Stores Resume Details)
JobSeekerDocId (PK)
JobSeekerId (FK)
Resume (as varbinary) (enabled Text Indexing)
Covering Letter (Text)
........

(JobSeekerPostingTable - Stores Job Postings Saved by the Job Seeker)
JobSeekerPostingId(PK)
JobSeekerId (FK)
JobPostingId (FK)
......

(JobSeekerAppliedTable - Stores Job Postings Applied by the Job Seeker)
JobSeekerAppliedId(PK)
JobSeekerId (FK)
JobPostingId (FK)
.....

(CompanyTable - Employer Details)
CompanyId(PK)
.....

(JobPostingTable - Stores the information of the Job Posting created by Employer)
JobPostingId(PK)
CompanyId(FK)
Job Title (enabled Text Indexing)
Job Desc(enabled Text Indexing)
.....

(JobPostingConTable - Stores the information of the Job Posting Location Details )
JobPostingConId(PK)
JobPostingId(FK)
.....

(CompResumeSaved - Job Seeker details saved by Employer)
CompResumeSaved(PK)
CompanyId(FK)
JobSeekerId(FK)
.....

Eventually more tables would be added. Can any one tell me how to speed up the performance (particulary search engine fo Employer for searching resumes & Jobseeker for searching job Postings.) I hope I have mentioned everything clearly.

Thanks,
Uma Ramiya

SQL Server 2008 :: How To Give Name Instead Of IP Address To Web Portal

One of the virtual servers uses the software XAMPP (it’s a web portal). The local IP for the virtual machine is 192.168.0.xxx

I have configured the XAMPP in a way so that any user in our domain can access the portal when the user writes the ip address in the web browser.Instead of the ip address, I want the user to be able to write a specific given name.

How Do I Video Create A Full-Featured Customer Login Portal - Missing Steps?

Apr 22, 2006

I watched the How do I  video "Create a Full-Featured Customer Login Portal" several times, and have compared my code to the downloaded VB code.  I seem to be missing something.
I am trying to replicate what he does in the video, where he uses the login name to query another database and display the matching data.  In the video he starts by using a querystring (page.aspx?userID=name) before creating a login page..  My program works with this method.  However, later he creates the login page, and the system seems to automatically link the user database with the northwind database and give results without the querystring.  There is no indication of how this is done.  When I examined the downloaded code, he actually uses a session variable in the Page_Load event on the orders page.  There is no explanation of this either, just a quick "I'll paste this from the clipboard."
I have compared my code line by line, and it matches exactly.  I can only guess that there is a missing step where a relationship is established between the ASPNETDB.mdf file and the northwind.mdf file.  Can anyone explain this to me?  Thank you.
My goal is to have a user log in, and the site automatically query the second database for that users statistics, and display them.

I've been through each step and everything looks okay. Does anyone have any idea (a) what's wrong, (b) how to localise the error or (c) get any additional information? Or do I just have to recreate the package from scratch?

I Need To Pass Data Entered /created On The First Page To The Next Page And Populate The Next Page With Some Data From The Fir

Nov 28, 2006

Hello I have a project that uses a large number of MS Data access pages created in Access 2003 and runs on MS SQL2005.

When I am on lets say my client, (first page in a series) data access page and I have completed the fields in the (DAP), I am directing my users to the next step of the registration process by means of a hyperlink to another Data access page in the same web but in a linked or sometimes different table.

I need to pass data entered /created on the first page to the next page and populate the next page with some data from the first page / table. (like staying on the client name and ID when i go to the next page)

I also need the first data access page to open and display a blank or new record. Not an existing record. I will also be looking to creata a drop down box as a record selector.

Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
I am some what new to data access pages so a walk through would be nice but anything you got is welcome. Thanks Peter€¦

Run A New Server Registration

Hi:
My pc is windows 2003 server and I have installed SQL SERVER 2005 EXPRESS.
From Management Studio I made a New Server Registration with Windows Authentication.
I can't run the new server, its icon appears with a white dot (instead of green when a server is running or red when the
server is stopped)
I go to server properties and click the "Test" button and I get the next message error:
Testing the registered server failed. Verify the server name, credentials, an database, an then click Test again.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server)
what could be wrong?
How can I run the server?
