When I try to connect to the server using VS2005 (VB) using the code:
Dim instance As System.Data.Sql.SqlDataSourceEnumerator = System.Data.Sql.SqlDataSourceEnumerator.Instance
Dim table As System.Data.DataTable = instance.GetDataSources()
For Each DRrow As DataRow In table.Rows 'DRrows
C1List1.AddItem(DRrow(0).ToString & ";" & DRrow(1).ToString & ";" & DRrow(3).ToString)
Next
I can see the Server Name, but not the Instance Name.
I've already checked the SQL Configurantion Manager, and I've allowed this instance to accept remote connections (created by the cmd install command).
NOTE: I'm testing the connection on a Domain, but only using the SA account (SQLmode).
Can somebody help me?
Thanks.
PS: I also created an Firewall exception in Windows on the port 1433.
I am using the VB 2005 login controls in a web application together with a wizard created sqlserver 2005 database stored in the application's appData directory. The controls work ok on my local development computer but when I deploy the application to a web hosting server (ASP.Net) I get the following error message when using any of the log-in controls: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Any suggestions on how to eliminate this error? Thanks for your help. Ken McLean
I am having a problem connecting to SQL2005 through a package remotely. if the db is on the same system , the package is running fine. But when i try to connect to a remote db, i get the following error
Failed to acquire connection "[DBName]". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
I have already allowed remote connections on the db server using the SQL server surface are configuration utility.
I can access SqlServer 2000 fine, but not SqlServer 2005. My client is on Windows XP and SqlServer 2005 (dev version) is on Windows 2003. I followed the document "Connecting to a Remove Intergration Services Server" , doc id: aa337083.
But I can connect to IS if I log remotely to the server.
Any thoughts on this ?
Thanks

I am currently using a Microsoft Access (MDB) for my application. But I am looking at allowing other users on the network access the same database -- I know a Microsoft Access database is not the best solutuon for this enviroment.
I'd like to use SQL Server 2005 Express in this case. I am very fimilular with SQL Server 2000 Std/Ent editions. My question is, can I use the free SQL Server 2005 Express edition and allow remote users to connect to that database? Or is it supposed to only be used as a local database accessed by only the machine it's installed on?
I have installed sqlserver 2005 using the standard msdn universal installation discs on my laptop running vista business.
The mssqlserver service will not start automatically as the setup configures it and I cannot start the service manually because I get the 'Access Denied' error message
I am logged on the the computer with adminstration privileges
- When I disable "allow remote connections to this server" from server properties>connection page, I can still remotely connect to the server from SSMS...so what is the impact of enable/disabling it?
- what is the impact of changing the remote query timeout (on the same page) from default value?
I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
I have been configuring my website with the following:
I have my domain residing on a webserver with SQL Server 2005, and the database (an sql server 2000 db) which I am connecting to reside on another web.
Now when I try to connect to the to the remote database from SQL Server 2005, it gives me error, something like When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. or maybe An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.
My attempts so far results in
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."
and
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."
I have an SQLServer Mobile database, and I would like to know if there is a way to upgrade it to SQLServer 2005 (.mdf) database. My database has no records in it, just the structure (tables etc). What I am actually asking is if I can create automatically a new SQLServer 2005 Database with the same structure as my existin SQLSErver Mobile database
Hi allWe have a small database that we host on our own local server. In order toget the information into the database I have a VB program that collates theinformation from a variety of sources and then over our local internalnetwork writes it to the database tables. This information is then made available over the internet using thecompanies broadband connection. In order to alleviate bandwidth issues weare looking at paying for someone else to host the database. What I am hoping to achieve is to keep the VB software, but during the nightupload the data to the remotely hosted SQL server using say a series ofupdate statements. Does anyone know if this is possible, and will SQL Serverlook after the integratory of the data. Is there any issues with therelatively low speed of then Internet as compared with a local networkenvironment. The amount of data we are looking at moving is very little, some where in the region of a few hundred records per night split over about10 tables.many thanksAndy
I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.
I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.
I have the following error when I query the linked servers. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error". OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.". Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.
I am aware of KB 906954. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;906954
I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.
However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.
Hi I have an sqlserver setup locally to chew thru pricefiles from our suppliers. The pricefiles comes in various formats mostly txt-files and are inserted via bulk-inserts and separeted by GO-statements, in the end I end up with a table containing unique partnumbers, the average price for the part, and number in stock. What i would like is to have a transact- statement in the end of all thoose sql-statements that copies the final table to a remote sqlserver that contains the DB used on my website. How do i connect to a remote server thru a sql-statement? is it possible? If i just get the connection part explained, i can figure out the rest by myself. Thanks /Jonas

Hi All,Im testing error handling on my website and if I stop my local sql server 2000 then run the web app, I get a SqlException which is good, but when I restart the sql server then I get a System.InvalidOperationException that will not go away. ( its coming from a ExecuteScalar() call) This happens on my remote database as well.It also happens if I kill the connection on my remote machine then reconnect. after I reconnect I can access the database using dbvis so I know its there.Am I not clearing something after the first error? If I restart the machine all is well. Thanks in advance for you help!-Keith
Fellow Devs, I have an instance of SQL Server Express 2005 running on another box and I have Remote Connections enabled over both TCP/IP and Named Pipes, but on my other box I keep getting the error that the server does not accept Remote Connections. Any ideas why this might be happening? Is there some other configuration?

I have to transfer an Access Database to SQLserver. There're hundred of tables in the original DB which use True, False value. Those will be translated to -1, 0 in SQLserver. I need them to be 0 , 1 instead (-1=>1).
Is there a way to tell SQLServer to process this modification during the transfer or is there a store procedure which can go through all tables and modify those values ?
I am having Access database in my local system . Values in the access database will be updated for every 5 min . I am also having Sqlserver database online with the same structure database of Access in my local system . What i want is my Access database values must be updated in my online sqlserver at every 5 min automatically .How to do that ?
We are using MS Access as a front end to a SQL Server 6.5 Database using ODBC & linking tables in Access.
We are unable to edit certain records using access. We get the following error message:
"This record has been changed by another user since you started editing it. If you save the record, you will overwrite the changes the other user made.
Copying the changes to the clipboard will let you look at the values the other user entered, and then paste your changes back in if you decide to make changes."
What the message says is untrue in our case. Worse, there is no way to recover and have the desired change posted. This error occurs only with certain records. This error occurs when there are no locks active (and only 1 client logged in).
I am inclined to think that this error may be the fault of ODBC.
Updating the same change directly into ISQL works fine. SQL Server Permissions have beeen checked & double checked.
If you have suggestions as to how this error can be rectified, please contact me: Mark Blackburn mark@mbari.org http://www.mbari.org/~mark
