Yet Another Question On Private Install In A Native/C++ OLE DB App

Jan 25, 2008

Folks- By reading all the results I got from doing a search on "private install" in this forum, I thought this must be as easy as:

1. Copying the seven DLL's comprising the engine to my application's install dir on the deployment machine. If my app is installed at C:MyApp then CE dll's would go into C:MyApp, thats where my WinMain'd exe is residing.
2. RegSvr32 on sqlceca35.dll, sqlceoledb35.dll

Since I'm using native C++/OLE DB, I don't think I'd need to care about System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll

However my app which is basically the NorthWnd sample is failing on CoCreateInstance(CLSID_SQLSERVERCE_3_0............)

Which means oledb provider not registered on the machine? am I correct?

I watched Steve Lasker's video, even though the private install covers managed code, but I thought I should be doing something very similar, apparently I'm missing something.

I'll appreciate any help.

P.S., The 7 dll's above I mentioned are:
sqlceca35.dll
sqlcecompact35.dll
sqlceer35EN.dll
sqlceme35.dll
sqlceoledb35.dll
sqlceqp35.dll
sqlcese35.dll

SQL Native Client Configuration Or Remote Connections Problem

Dec 7, 2006

If I look under SQL native client configuration | Client protocols, I have no entries and no ability to look at the properties of SQL Native client Configuration. Something is missing which I think is related to an error when connecting to my local server.

sqlcmd -E -S .devmain, 1064

I get error :

Encryption not support
sqlcmd: Error: microsoft SQL native Client : Client unable to establish connection

An error has occurred while establish a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections..

In comparison to other machines here at work, it appears my remote connections are configured. But I have no Client Protocols under sql native client configuration, how can I get them in there?

Thanks, in advance.

Remote Creation Of A Maintenance Plan

Jan 9, 2006

I'm trying to remotely create a maintenance plan using the management studio in order to backup databases. I get the following error.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

TITLE: Maintenance Plan Wizard Progress
------------------------------

Create maintenance plan failed.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Create failed for JobStep 'Subplan'.  (Microsoft.SqlServer.MaintenancePlanTasks)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.00&EvtSrc=Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplates.FailedOperationExceptionText&EvtID=Create+JobStep&LinkId=20476

------------------------------

An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

The specified '@subsystem' is invalid (valid values are returned by sp_enum_sqlagent_subsystems). (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 14234)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=09.00.1399&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=14234&LinkId=20476

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

The server doesn't have the Management studio client installed so I can't create the maintenance plan locally. If I install just the Management studio will the data currently in the server be effected? Any solution to the remote problem?

Thanks,

Neil

?? SQL Server 2005 Express SP2 Install Fails On Native Client ??

Jun 11, 2007

Hello all,

I'm trying to install "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2" on a newly installed XP Pro SP2 machine. I downloaded "SQLEXPR32.EXE" (38,220,656 bytes) from the Microsoft site.

At the beginning of the setup the installation program scans my system -- no problems or warnings. Everything looks fine and ready to go.

During installation I uncheck, "Hide advanced configuration options" simply because I want to change the default instance name. Aside from changing the default instance name I make no other changes to the default installation configuration.

The installation begins but when it tries to comes to the "SQL Native Client" portion of the installation I get the following error dialog message:

"An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.msi'."

Below I've included the setup log file of the SQL Native Client portion of the setup. I've looked through the log file but didn't see anything obviously wrong until the error occurs toward the end.

Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this to happen? I've install SSE many times in the past with no problems.

Thanks

Unable To Install Native Client Components In SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Evaluation Version

Dec 14, 2007

Hi all,

I have downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Evaluation Edition ISO from the following site and burned it onto a DVD.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6931FA7F-C094-49A2-A050-2D07993566EC&displaylang=en

Prior to this I have installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edtion. During setup I have selected all the native client components i.e. Management Studio, Business Intelligense Studio. But after the install I am not able to see them under All Programs-> Microsoft SQL Server 2005. On further searching I have come across this link

http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=142941

First of all, there is no sqlrun_tools.msi under setup folder of the dvd. And also when I tried to change component from Add/Remove programs and following the instructions as specified on clicking Change Installed components all that I see are: Connectivity Components and Software Development kit.

Could someone tell me how can I install Management Studio/ Business Intelligence Studio seperately? I don't want to go through the process of re-installation.

Cannot Install SQL Server Express On Vista Ultimate - Cannot Find MS SQL Server Native Client

Apr 5, 2007

I am trying to install SQL Server Express - (the non ADV version) and get the following error.

"An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli_x64.msi'".

I have 64 bit Vista Ultimate running on an HP dv9000.

I am using the download from the bottom of the download page for SSX where it says 64 bit version.

Prior to this I got the. "64-bit ASP.net is registered. Required 32-bit ASP.NET to install Microsoft Reporting services 2005(32-bit)." messagd during the pre-install scan. From what I gather in the posts, the reporting issue is different from my installation package problem.

I have been trying to prove a point to friends about how far you can go with SSX but am having no luck installing it. This whole process took 1 hour in XP but I've been stymied for 2 days.

I would appreciate being pointed at the right downloads for what seems to be a simple install.

Best Way To Install A Database At A Remote Site

Jul 20, 2005

Greetings,I am in the process of installing a SQL database at a customerlocation. I have determined that there are 3 ways to do this, and Iwanted to know which is the best of the 3.1 Install From Script.In this method I create the database and its objects in scripts thatare run via osql utility on the SQL server machine. For loading anyinitial data that I need in the database I also run bcp commands.2 Install from a backupIn this method I created an empty database on the SQL server, and thenrestore over it the database from a backup of the database that I needto deploy. Then I add or re-attach the users for the database. Iperform all of these operations using osql as well.3 Install by attaching the data files.In this method I created an empty database on the SQL server, and thenI attach the data files to the database using the sp_attach procedure.Then I add or re-attach the users for the database. I perform all ofthese operations using osql as well.Although it is no problem for me to use any of these methods, I wantedto know from you veterans out there what the best practices are. Andalso if there are any unseen hazards for each method above. Or if Iam totally off-the-target, and there is another method that is thepreferred way.Thanks in Advance,roger

Install SQL Server 2000 SP4 Via Remote Desktop On The Cluster.

Apr 17, 2007

Hello.

Has anyone attempted and successfully installed SQL Server 2000 SP4
via remote desktop on the cluster.

The reason I am asking is that SP4 readme file has this:

"...
4.3 Systems Management Server Distributed Installation
You cannot install Database Components SP4 from a remote location.
..."

Currently SQL Server has SP3a installed.

Thank you in advance.

Unattended SQL 2005 Express Install Enabling Ad Hoc Remote Queries

Jul 6, 2006

Hi there,

I am trying to create an un-attended SQL 2005 Express install. I have successfully made my own template.ini file to install SQL the way I like but I cannot find a way to make it install with the "Ad hox remote queries" option enabled.

Is there anyway to do this? I can't seem to find any switches in the INI file to allow this.

Thanks

SQL 2012 :: Trace Creation Time Is Different From Time Check Creation

Oct 8, 2014

We have an SSAS instance where when we run the query "select * from $system.discover_traces" the creation time in the resultset shows a different time from when we actually started the trace.

for example if we have create the trace at 3.30pm it shows 7.35 pm in the Sql server management studio resultset when we run the query "select * from $system.discover_traces".

- what is the impact of changing the remote query timeout (on the same page) from default value?

I have an instance of SQL Server Express 2005 running on another box and I have Remote Connections enabled over both TCP/IP and Named Pipes, but on my other box I keep getting the error that the server does not accept Remote Connections.
Any ideas why this might be happening? Is there some other configuration?

SQL Server 2005 Install Keeps Failing To Install SQL Services (i.e. The Main Engine!).

Feb 6, 2007

I am currently running Windows XP Professional Service Pack2. It already has MSDE & SQL Server 2000 installed (although I just uninstalled MSDE in the vain hope that it might present the installer with a more straightforward upgrade).

I have tried installing with the default instance & a new instance (I don't really care - I just need to install the darn thing). I just want the basic database & Books On-line, nothing fancy.

I suppose an error dialog (or log message) that actually told you what is wrong and then what to do is too much to ask for. (Or an installer than just copied all the files into place). :(

How To Suppress Dialog [Install Xxx Using The Default Application Install Directory?] ?

Dec 7, 2006

I have compile my application into a Smart Device CAB and also including SQLCE CAB file for SQL.

I have users who choose to install SQLCE into Storage Cards instead and causes the application not to function, when asked which destination to install.

I've done some search and found out about "wceload.exe /noaskdest" but I'm using NSIS to compile into a single .exe file, and its calling "CEAppMgr.exe"

How can I force SQLCE to install into its default directory without asking user?

Thanks!

Sql Native Client, VB6 App

May 14, 2007

We have a VB6 app that we're trying to connect to an SQL2005 server.

We're able to connect from dev machines that have SQLExpress, or SQL 2005 tools installed, but we cannot connect from other machines. We've installed sqlncli.msi from the MS site, but this still doesn't work. When we try to login, we get an error that reads "0[Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Fractional truncation" when we try writing to a smalldatetime field. This problem does not happen on the dev machines.

Connection string:

connectiontype = cnnSQLServer

database name = name

pasword = password

userid = uid

servername = servername

driver = {SQL Native Client}

Driver version on the dev machines is: 2005.90.3042.00

Driver version on the roll out machines is: 2005.90.1399.00

What are we doing wrong?

Zeke.

SQL Remote Connection Not Being Seen, Though Remote Connections Allowed

Oct 11, 2007

HiI'm going insane.I have a club starter kit on my local server which is working fine.I have migrated the database to my remote host and seems to have transfered ok.For a brief period I was able to connect to the database remotely, but now I cannot I get the following, even though SQL Server Surface Area Config is set to accept remote connections.An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)This is my connection string;<add name="ClubSiteDB" connectionString="Data Source=xx.xxx.xx.xx,xxxx; Network Library=DBMSSOCN; Initial Catalog=tets; User ID=sqladminbob;Password=sqlbob4398;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient="/>I hav also tried to use  aspnet_regsql.exe to add the remote provider but I get the same message. Thanks

Standard Install Gives: Value Does Not Fall Within The Expected Range After SP1 Install

Jan 30, 2007

Win XP Pro SP2IIS 5.1SQL 2005 SP1 (Developer edition)VS 2005 SP1.Net 2.0IE7 (didn't work on IE 6 either)Latest updates from Windows updateI have set up SSRS successfully on several machines. But on a new machine with standard install I have the out of the box SSRS report manager running with issues and would like to resolve them. Report Manager will serve image files from my project. But it won't render deployed reports, not even one which has no data sources. From within VS 2005 the same reports render, no problems. The same reports published to another SSRS machine render fine.The browser erorr message is "Value does no fall within the expected range".Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering if I can take native SQL log backup in addition to DPM backups. We're using DPM for both databases (daily) and logs (every 15min). So, if I take SQL log backup separately, will it break anything in DPM and we won't be able to perform point it time recovery?
