WORK3 is a XPPro, both WORK2 and 3 have full admin rights to their machines and the network, I am using SQL Authentication (sa, password)
I have used the SQL Server Config app to enable the 4 Protocols, then restarted service. I can connect locally to my database via "SQL Server Management Studio Express", and through my VB application. I have checked "allow remote connections" in the database properties.
I do not know what i am missing? any thoughts?
I am converting over from MSDE to SQL Express. My front end program is unable to connect to the database. To troubleshoot, from the remote computer I tried connecting with the management program and I get the Error 26 unable to connect.
Here is what I have done: I made sure that the SQL Server configuration has been changed to allow network connections (both TCP and named pipes). I have disable windows firewall on both machines. I confirmed that I can connect from the remote machined to the server by network browsing. Both machines are running XP Proff. There is no other security software running on either machine.
More Info. when attempting to log on I am using the server authntication, I use "sa" as the user id plus my password.
Goal. The front end of database program connects to the server remotely using a program called Hamachi over the internet. This works without a problem on MSDE. But for now I am simply try to connect using the managment program which lets you browse for other serves. When I do this it shows the remote computer, but not the name of the computer but not the SQL server which I type in like the following: "INTELsql1"
What I have not Done: I have not changed any permissions or added any users to the server, since this does not seem necessary. As stated the user of remote machine can connect to the server and change files.

I have SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed in a Microsoft Windows XP Pro PC that is a terminal PC in our office Network. My Network Administrator has granted my terminal PC for Administrator Use. I tried to do the ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my terminal PC and I could not get a remote connection in the Window Form Application via Window Authorization. I do not know how to make this kind of remote connection in my Network. Please help and advise.
I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. My database stays in a remote site and I have access it through VPN. I would like connect my current Windows based Asp.Net application with this database. What are my options? Can I connect remote database with SqlDataAdaper, will that be slow? Should I sue Web Services to connect database?
I am running the SQL express advanced on the same PC that also hosts my Visual Basic Express application. I have user instances turned off and full-text enabled and working from within a SQL query window. However, I can not create a working connection to the database using the data source wizard from the server explorer within VB.NET. Since this is on the same PC, do I need to enable anything other than shared memory? I get the error: Provider SQL Network Interfaces, error 26 Error locating server/instance.
Here is my environment and problem: I have VWD 2005 and SSE 2005 installed on my local machine. I also have these installed on my Windows 2003 Server. I developed my database using SSE on my local machine but pointing to directory on my server. I have been developing the web app using VWD on my server. I now want to use VWD on my local machine and point to the project on my server. I am able to open the project. In order to access the database in the "Database Explorer" I use as my "Data Source", "MS SQL Server (SQL Client) and it attaches fine and I can see my tables and data. Now for my problem: When I try to run the application "VIew in Browser", which login.aspx page is my first page, I get the page, but it doesn't inherit my master page which has the basic navigation and layout. Then after I try to login I get this message. The file "W:BBAppApp_DataTimeTracker.mdf" is on a network path that is not supported for database files.An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file W:BBAppApp_DataTimeTracker.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. I'm trying to adminster a remote MS SQL server from inside my company's firewall. I have the correct permissions to pass traffic through the firewall, but I need to authenticate to it first. When I try to register this remote SQL server through Enterpise Manager, it of course does not let me because of the firewall. Is there any way I can pass the firewall ID and password during the server registration process, and then pass the SQL server ID and password? I'm no SQL server expert by any means, but it doesn't look like it's possible. Are there any third party utilities that may accomplish this?
I am trying to look at a friends database that they have developed. Not having used SQL Server Express before I am experiencing problems trying to remotely connect to their database.

Hi, I have an ASP.Net web application running in groupnamewebservername. I am trying to connect it to the remote database server groupnamedatabaseservername using the ASPNET user id. The remote database is SQL Server 2005 and the web server has IIS 6.0 installed. My web.config connection entry has username as "groupnamewebservernameaspnet" and I have a database user in remote database server under the login name groupnamewebservername$. Hi, I have been creating a web store, which we will be hosting on our Windows Server 2003 system. I am also writing a windows application that will be running on our client systems on the same network/domain. I have no need to allow internet access to the database, just within our domain. Pretty much the windows application will be running and whenever a customer places an order, the program will automatically pop-up the needed information for our credit card processing, and shipping department. So far I have been able to establish a connection to our server by creating a data connection under the server explorer. However, it does not list any databases whatsoever, the web site has been published using Visual Studio 2005 Professional on the server, and is in 100% working order. I have searched and haven't found anything concrete on this, i'm sure its just something simple that im missing. It appears that the server is definetely connected to the database (since the website is fully functional), but it is not listing the information for other systems to access it. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thank you
I have a SQL Server 2005 database (called BDHSE) in a PC which i call PC1. I have a second PC (PC2) and both are within a network (a WLAN).
What i want is to have access to BDHSE from an application in VB6 (APP1) running in PC2. All the INSERT, DELETE, UPDATE records process is done through APP1.
APP1 ia currently running in PC1 and is to be installed on PC2.
I have these questions:
1. What do i need to install in PC2 since all the INSERT, DELETE, and UPDATE is done using APP1? I guess i only have to install the Microsoft SQL Native Client (with all the prerequisites of course) but i am not sure.
2. In the APP1 made in VB6, do i have to change the connectionstring since i am accesing the database which physically is at PC1 and the APP1 will be used in PC2?
3. Any advice you can give me on doing this will be well received.
I have VC++ express and MSSQL SMS express and have an application working nicely locally. The Data explorer and data connections part works really easily.
Now, I want to make the application available to my home network.
I mapped the drive where the database is and called it Z: so I could put my "release" on my other network PC and assumed it would find Z: if I mapped the shared network drive on that machine and called it Z:
But: I can't even add the mapped connection on the local machine, I get:

It works fine on the original F drive.......
Am I approaching this the wrong way. How should I distribute to network PCs?
Let me set the stage of my testbed configuration: On Windows XP SP2, my default connection to the Internet is via wireless express card modem using EV-DO via Verizon Wireless. Let's call this connection A. I also have a traditional wireless network connection (802.11g) that is always enabled. Let's call this connection B. Connection A is always connected during normal business hours. Connection B is not and is often searching for a wireless network to connect to when nothing is in range.
Yesterday, connection B was continuously trying to connect to a wireless network not under my control, meaning that the connection was never established and notification messages continually popped up to complain of this fact. Over time, I've learned to ignore these messages and go on doing my daily work without much thought of the possible implications.
Then, things started to get odd. I was running our application, WebWatchBot, to perform some simple tests of various websites and servers, when I started to get messages from the application that database connectivity was lost, which is a message that pops up to inform the user that the connection is forcibly dropped by SQL Server. After a few moments, the connection to the database was re-established and the message went away. Since I was actually working with SQL Server, I thought it was an anomoly, so I continued on. Then, it happened again. And again. Then, I noticed that the "database connectivity lost" message started to coincide with the wireless connection's (connection B) inability to connect with a wireless network.
Why would this be happening? The database and application are on the same exact computer. The connection to the database is via ODBC drivers over tcp/ip, but why would connection B affect this?

I have an SSIS package which accesses a map UNC path drive. It works fine when I run SSIS from Visual Studio. However, when I run this from a SQL Server job, it gives an error.
I am not allowed to use xp_cmdshell due to security reasons. If someone can point me to right direction, that would be greatly appricated.
I have scheduled a backup on a remote machine. Everyday I FTP these backups from the remote machine to the local drive.
A local drive is maped to the remote machine in Windows NT Explorer but SQLSERVER7 Enterprise Manager can't see this drive so that I could do the backup to it.

I'm trying to run an SSIS package. The package runs on an SQL 2005 server on Win2k3 server. The package tries to connect to another win2k3 server with sql 2000 to retrieve some data. However, I recieve the errormessage shown in the topic.

I have setup my home computer as a server and assigned a static IP to it. I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer and allowed remote connections to it through the Surface Area Config tool, added port 1433 TCP and 1434 UDP to firewall's exception list, and started the SQL Server Browser service.
Now I can't seem to remote connect to this SQL Server from my office network. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?
I'm getting "Access denied" error when I try to connect to SSIS from my desktop (Database Engine is fine). I'm a member of sysadmin within SQL, as well as an administrator on the server. I don't have any problem when I log on to the server directly via Remote Desktop and open SSIS.
I went into the surface area config tool, and I see that Database Engine and Analysis Services both expand and have a sub tabs to enable Services and Remote Connections, but Integration Services does not expand to a Remote Connections option, just Services. We're running MSDN Enterprise edition.
Does it matter if all the SQL services are using "Local System" for the logon ? I use an administrative logon on my SQL2000 boxes, and was fiddling with them on the 2005 box yesterday, but it seemed to cause more problems, so they are all Local System for now.
Hi. I'm (very) new to SQL Server. I have run into what seems to be a very common problem, judging by the number of Google hits, but it's not actually in the FAQs here, as far as I can see.
Situation I installed SQL Server Express with Advanced Services 2005 on my Windows XP Pro laptop, using (with one exception) the default install. The exception was to put the data files on a separate partition (D: ) where I have more free space.
SQL Server Management Studio Express connects happily, and I set up a single data import table.
Issue: bcp Fails to connect to default local instance I initially tried bcp in output mode, prior to working in earnest on importing my data. However the command line-
bcp MyDatabaseName.dbo.UserProfile out UserProfile.txt -T -c
Fails with the error-
Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2].
As I understand it, the local instance of SSE is the default, and should use a local (shared memory?) connection. This seems to work for Management Studion Express, but not bcp.
While investigating this problem, I tried enabling remote connections (all types) through the Surface Area Configuration wizard, and found that remote connections using either of:
bcp eSpacePh1.dbo.UserProfile out UserProfile.txt -T -c -S localhostsqlexpress bcp eSpacePh1.dbo.UserProfile out UserProfile.txt -T -c -S mycomputernamesqlexpress
both work ok.
Extra Info When starting Management Studio Express, it says something like "Configuring environment for the first time". However it says this every time it is started, not just the first run after installation, does this indicate some configuration data is not being successfully stored?

I am new to SSIS but this does not seem like it should be a hard thing to do. Here is the background:
Windows Server 2003
SQL Server 2005
SSIS
Logged in to server as Admin
I've created a SSIS package that I want to run as a Job. In it there is a Ole DB Connection to a VFP Database on a Novell Server. Client for Netware Services is started when server is but NOT logged into. When I created the package everything runs fine. Note that I had to login when I created the Data Link. I can even run it from the SQL Server Package Store. As soon as I restart the server and try to run it I get an error that the file path is invalid in both SSIS and the Package Store. I check the connection string and it looks good.
The connection is availible in My Network Places
If I open the connection and login it runs fine again.
How do I intiate the network connection and then close it again??
I've been looking around in several SQL-Forums and in SQL Books Online but haven't found clear suggestions how to tackle my problem:
Our company has to fill a database with documentation for our contractor. Our subcontractors have to supply information from their branch/craft into this database, too.
Replication (without determining a type at this time) would do fine for data-exchange between us and our subcontractors.
But for working in different companies the networks are not connected and in some companies/departments connection to the Internet is prohibited at all. This would result in data-exchange based on files - which wont be a problem as data needs to be updated/exchanged only once a week and is usually done at meetings using DVD-Rs.
scenario in short: - two-way exchange of data between SQL servers being not connected - update needed once a week - our server: SQL Server 2005 Standard (preferred) - servers of our subcontractors: SQL Server Express 2005 (preferred)
That's the point where I dont know how to proceed: Is two-way replication based on files possible at all?
I read about Snapshots, but to my understanding this replaces the "whole database" without caring about changes made to it and that's why it wont work for two-way exchange.
I would appreciate your hints how to solve this problem in general or whether I should look out for other solutions - MS Access might work with restrictions - but I would prefer SQL Server.

Basically I've been using Visual Studio 2005 for a few weeks now moving a Pocket PC project from 2003 to 2005. When I hit the Start Debugging Button every time until today the project would rebuild and deploy to my pocket PC allowing me to debug etc but now I get
The remote connection to the device has been lost.
Please verify the device conection and restart debugging.
I used to get this problem in VS2003 sometimes and just like the numerous posts on different sites that I've looked at the problem eventually goes away and I'm none the wiser. One guy said that he found that if he went to bed the problem was resolved when he came back!
My PDA running Windows 2003 2nd Edition is directly connected to my PC via a USB port. I've rebooted my PC and done a soft reset on the PDA but it didn't help. I'm using ActiveSync 4.1.
We are running a software which has a sql database and it runs a data cycle everyday in which it gets data from several other sql servers on our network.
Recently we have starting receiving the following errors during this run;
It finishes most of the queries in the script, but on some (and not always the same tables) it gives the time out error. I am not quit sure where or how to research this problem.
I am running SQL Server 2012 on a VM and am trying to pull data from a network drive (S: or misvnascfs0003).I can import data using the Import Wizard and save the package as an SSIS package. When I try to Run the Package I get The Acquire Connection method call to the connection manager "SourceConnectionExcel" failed with the error...
If I save the file to the VM local drive the SSIS package run fine.When I log into SSIS through SSMS i have to run as "Administrator".
