Remove Null From Pivot Data?

Jan 17, 2015

I have a pivot query returning data ordered by a timestamp. In any give second only a few of the columns will have data, the remaining columns are NULL. I would like to default the NULL data values to the previous NON NULL value by timestamp.

Current Pivot Table:

Time RowA RowB RowC
12:15:12 NULL NULL 50
12:15:11 97 NULL NULL
12:15:10 98 25 51
12:15:06 101 NULL 50
12:15:05 100 NULL NULL

What should be returned:

Time RowA RowB RowC
12:15:12 97 25 50
12:15:11 97 25 51
12:15:10 98 25 51
12:15:06 101 NULL 50
12:15:05 100 NULL NULL

I know that I can do this user a cursor and handling the output is code, but I would prefer to do this in a single set based query.

Power Pivot :: 2 Tables - Remove Duplicates

Jul 13, 2015

I have 2 tables below:

Table 1:

Product No Quantity
A 1
B 2
C 3

Table 2:

Product No Grade Quantity
A Good
  A Normal
  A Bad
  B Good
  B Bad
  C Good
C Normal
C Bad

In Table 2, Product No divided by Grade. I want to lookup the Quantity from Table 1 to Table 2. The same Product No will have 1 value, the other value is 0. The result for Column Quantity should be like this:

Table 2:

Product No Grade Quantity
A Good 1
A Normal 0
A Bad 0
B Good 2
B Bad 0
C Good 3
C Normal 0
C Bad 0

Compressing Multiple Rows With Null Values To One Row With Out Null Values After A Pivot Transform

Jan 25, 2008

I have a pivot transform that pivots a batch type. After the pivot, each batch type has its own row with null values for the other batch types that were pivoted. I want to group two fields and max() the remaining batch types so that the multiple rows are displayed on one row. I tried using the aggregate transform, but since the batch type field is a string, the max() function fails in the package. Is there another transform or can I use the aggragate transform another way so that the max() will work on a string?

Power Pivot :: One Slicer To Control Two Pivot Tables That Have Different Source Data And Common Key

Jul 8, 2015

I have two data tables:

1) Production data with column headers: Key, Facility, Line, Time, Output
2) Costs data with column headers: Key, Site, Cost Center, Time, Cost

The tables have a common key named obviously as Key. The data looks like this:

Key
Facility
Line
Time
Output
Alpha

I would like to have two pivot tables which I can filter with ONE slicer based on the column Key. The first pivot table shows row labels Facility, Line and column labels Time. Value field is Output. The second pivot table shows row labels Site, Cost Center, and column lables Time. Value field is Cost.How can I do this with Power Pivot? I tried by linking both tables above to a table with unique Keys in PowerPivot and then creating a PivotTable where I would have used the Key from the Keys table.

How To Remove NULL From Computed Column ?

Aug 20, 2004

I've 2 columns after executing query,

one column from those 2 is calculated column.

I am getting resultset as follows

ACCOUNT ¦(calculated column)

------------------------------

100 ¦alpha

100 ¦NULL

My concern is how should I remove record with NULL from final resultset ?

If I give some name to that calculated column say 'Name'

and tried to put in main query as

"where 'Name' IS NOT NULL"; it doesnot work.

Can you have any workaround for it?

Pivot Table, Force Null To Zero

Nov 30, 2007

I have an SSIS package that uses a pivot component to summarize some date. Some columns will be 0, but I want to write this row with 0 and not null. I tried defining my table as int, not null, default 0, but I get an error basically saying I can't insert null value. What's the best way around this? Thanks

Huge Tables: Minimizing Row Size - Remove Null Bitmap

Apr 21, 2007

I am in the process of designing a SQL 2005 database with tables that may hold several hundreds of millions of rows.

Due to various constraints, I am trying to save as much space as possible by optimizing the size of a row. Currently one row contains the following columns:

byte(4), byte(3), byte(3) = 10 bytes.

Adding 4 bytes for the row header, plus 3 bytes for the null bitmap (as described in BOL) I am ending up with 17 bytes/row. In a real world test it was an average of 18.3 bytes/row.

There are no indexes, no primary key and all columns are not NULL. Hence my question: since no column allows a null value, is there a possibility to "remove" the 3 bytes Null Bitmap?

Is there any other way to shave off one or two more bytes by using a clustered index etc?

Thanks

Summing A Column, Using A Pivot Table, Accounting For NULL

Sep 13, 2006

hello, i'm using sql200 and i am attempting to create a table that has an hourly-incrementing 'Date_Time' column, with a corresponding 'Total' column (which keeps a running total of values off of another table) . The code I am using right now is...

declare @date as smalldatetime

set @date = dateadd(yy, -1, cast(convert(char(11), current_timestamp, 101) + '00:00:00' as smalldatetime))

select dateadd(hh, i, @date) as Date_Time, sum(Subtotal) as Total

into #POGtable

from Pivot, OrderGroup

where

i between 0 and 24 and

CreationDate between @date and dateadd(hh, i, @date)

group by i

select dateadd(hh, i, @date) as Date_Time, 0 as Total

into #Ptable

from Pivot

where i between 0 and 24

group by i

select *

from #POGtable

union

select * from #Ptable p

where not exists(

select * from #POGtable pog

where p.Date_Time >= pog.Date_Time)

the solution is ugly, but the problem i'm having is that values for 'SubTotal' don't usually appear before 8 or 9 am. what you see above is me getting all the times (hours) that a subtotal present, creating another table with every possible hour in it (and with a 'Total' column as just zero), and then combining the two tables to create one flowing table over a 24-hour period.

there has GOT to be a better way to do this; the main point being that i want the sum( ) function to start adding up values immediately so i don't have to union two tables

Power Pivot :: Pivot Table Loses Text Wrapping For Text Data Upon Refresh

Apr 29, 2015

I have a pivot table that connects to our data warehouse via a PowerPivot connection.  The data contains a bunch of comment fields that are each between 250 and 500 characters.  I've set the columns in this pivot table to have the 'Wrap Text' set to true so that the user experience is better, and they can view these comment fields more clearly.

However, whenever I refresh the data, the text wrapping un-sets itself.  Interestingly, the 'Wrap Text' setting is still enabled, but I have to go and click it, then click it again to actually wrap the text.  This is very burdensome on the user, and degrading the experience.

Any way to make this text wrapping stick so that I don't have to re-set it every time I refresh the data?

Power Pivot :: Structural Data Model Changes In Data Source Leads To Errors

Oct 12, 2015

I've question about how to handle structural datamodel changes in a datasource of PowerPivot. Suppose I'm developing a starmodel in SQL Server and sometimes a datatype changes or a name of a field changes in a table. It seems to me that PowerPivot handle this not gracefully as Analysis MD does (mostly). I received an error because of a wrong fieldname or even no error when a dattype changes in PowerPivot. Is this common or do I something wrong here. Does this mean that every time the datamodel changes the PowerPivot should be recreated? Or am I missing the clue here?

Power Pivot :: Deleting Data Content From Data Model

Sep 10, 2013

I don't know if the question has been nailed down.  Aside from deleting tables, can we delete the *content* of data within the tables.  It doesn't seem crazy that, if you can pull in data from a feed then you should be able to remove the content out again (without also destroying the user's meta-data work ).  Reasons for this include:

- Security (a user may not have rights to see *my* data and should go refresh their own)
- Size (workbook doesn't need to have GB's of irrelevant data saved to disk in a workbook if it was just useful during development phase to a pre-production data feed)
- Bad data (pre-production data feed is not good data)
- User-friendliness (data feed was refreshed 2 years ago and workbook was saved to file server.  Users shouldn't be presented with irrelevant data, but should get empty pivot tables until they go do their refresh)

Obviously Excel internally knows how to clear out PowerPivot data, given the prompt shown here: [URL] ....

But how does a user initiate this on their own (corruption aside)?

Previous time this question was asked, without a real resolution: [URL] ....

Power Pivot :: Comparing YTD Data To Average Of Data In Last 6 Months

Jun 9, 2015

I am trying to build various reports that compares data over time. I have one that measures Year Over Year % difference for number of incoming projects. I managed to do that easily by calculating the following

YTDProjects:=if(ISBLANK(SUM('TrendData'[Projects])),blank(),CALCULATE(SUM('TrendData '[Projects]),DATESYTD(CalendarDate[FullDate])))
PYProjects:=if(ISBLANK(SUM('TrendData'[Projects])),blank(),CALCULATE(sum('TrendData '[Projects]),SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR(DATESYTD(CalendarDate[FullDate]))))
YoYDifference:=[YTDProjects]-[PYProjects]
YoYPercProjects:=IF([PYProjects]=0, BLANK(), [YoYDifference]/[PYProjects])

Where Projects is the metric in question, TrendData is the table that contains project data and CalendateDate is the Date Table. But now I am trying to compare the same YTD projects data to number of projects that came in the last 6 months. How do our projects compare to average number of projects that came in last 6 month period.

I tried the the DATEADD function instead but got no luck and data came out wrong!

PrevProjects:=CALCULATE(SUM([Projects]),DATEADD(CalendarDate[FullDate],-1,QUARTER))

For some reason, this also returns blank in my model:

QTDProjects:=TOTALQTD(SUM('TrendData'[Projects]),CalendarDate[FullDate])

Pivot Data

Nov 2, 2007

I have data in this format

Product qty
ABC 4
DEF 5
:
:
XYZ 4

I'll never have more that 10 products at a time.
I need to deliver the data in a format like this:

prod_1 qty1 prod_2 qty2 ... prod_10 qty10
ABC 4 DEF 5 XYZ 4

If there are less than 10 products, the last columns will contain NULL.
What I'm doing is delivering a recordset to a report.
The report is designed to work with a single record, not multiple lines.
Of course, there's more data than this, this is just where I'm stuck.

Is there a way to pivot this data? I'm using SQL2000

Here's a ddl of what I've been trying to work with,
but all attempts at pivoting have been = FAIL

CREATE TABLE #TMP (
PKG_CODE VARCHAR(20),
QTY_ACT INTEGER)

INSERT INTO #TMP
SELECT 'PAD', 15
UNION ALL
SELECT 'PAD4436', 15
UNION ALL
SELECT 'SW', 15

SELECT 'TS', 16

SELECT * FROM #TMP

Problem With Isnull. Need To Substitute Null If A Var Is Null And Compare It To Null And Return True

Sep 20, 2006

Hey. I need to substitute a value from a table if the input var is null. This is fine if the value coming from table is not null. But, it the table value is also null, it doesn't work. The problem I'm getting is in the isnull line which is in Dark green color because @inFileVersion is set to null explicitly and when the isnull function evaluates, value returned from DR.FileVersion is also null which is correct. I want the null=null to return true which is why i set ansi_nulls off. But it doesn't return anything. And the select statement should return something but in my case it returns null. If I comment the isnull statements in the where clause, everything works fine. Please tell me what am I doing wrong. Is it possible to do this without setting the ansi_nulls to off??? Thank you

set ansi_nulls off

go

declare

@inFileName VARCHAR (100),

@inFileSize INT,

@Id int,

@inlanguageid INT,

@inFileVersion VARCHAR (100),

@ExeState int

set @inFileName = 'A0006337.EXE'
