I have a field where the data is stored with RTF. I know SQL Reporting Services cannot display it properly. Is there way to remove the RTF formatting codes through a function to just pull out the text and displya it in the text box?
View 4 RepliesI currently have a simple project where we need to store paragraphs for letters that will be automatically printed and then mailed to cusomters. These letters will be created based on certain criteria.
I have the SQL database set up with two fields...the paragraphCode (which is the key) and then the paragraph. These paragraphs were originally created in Word and some of these paragraphs contain bulleting and other rich text features. I have built a small utility in ASP (using VB .Net) for our intranet to view / insert / edit these paragraphs. If a user is copying and pasting the paragraph from a Word document, what should this paragraph field's datatype be declare as? It is currently NVARCHAR(MAX).

I want to execute some queries inside a stored procedure, get the data and create from them some strings with formatted parts (bold, italic, underline, different color fonts) and save them in a text field. These strings are going to be displayed in some DBRichText control in a database application built with Delphi. Is there an easy way to create these complex rtf formats in MSSQL
or some ideas regarding this problem?

I believe the November CTP does not have this functionality. It is a pretty important decision regarding my organization's adoption of the new product.

Hey there - I have a textbox (C# 1.1 OR 2.0) that I want to take it's contents and post to a datatype of some sort in SQL2k5 and have it preserve the breaks (return keystrokes) so when the data is presented, it can hold a paragraph form. Is this possible?something like this: <asp:TextBox id="txtContent" runat="server" TextMode="MultiLine" Rows="10"></asp:TextBox>Right now, I'm using nvarchar(4000) as the datatype but if I were to type, say 3 paragraphs, the data returned in the datagrid I bind that data to shows only one long string of data. For the time being, I have been puttting HTML formatting tags in the content I'm posting to the DB, but ultimately don't want to have to do that. I don't want to have to use a Text Editor (like FTB or FCKeditor) if necessary because they seem very much involved for the simple need I have which is to preserve paragraph formatting.So, is there another datatype in SQL2k5 that I should be using? (Note when I say "rich" text I don't specifically mean rich text, I'm refering to text with user defined bold, italic, numbered lists, colors, fonts, etc.)
We have a (new) system where we want a user to enter "rich" text notes into a single column using an editor embedded in our application (much like the editor I'm using for this forum) and have the notes displayed correctly in SSRS reports. We were thinking of storing the notes as HTML but I've just tried it and the report displays the whole HTML string, rather than marking up the text.
We are open to marking up the text using any mechanism, rich text, HTML, Word, etc. just as long as we can see it in the reports.
We also need to consider viewing the same notes via Crystal reports.

I have a datatable with a field called 'Description' that is formatted in html (<P>Some text here</P>). This prints out when I try to report it, is there any way to strip away the formatting tags? (The best solution would be to APPLY the formatting tags, but I doubt that is possible).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a file I'm pulling from another type of database into an Excel spreadsheet and then using my dtsx package to import the spreadsheet into my SQL database. The problem I'm having is that one of the fields coming out of the database to the spreadsheet has the thousands seperator in the field that I want to use as a numeric field without the ",". Right now I have a macro that I run on the spreadsheet to reset the field to straight numbers without commas before importing it, but would like to configure my Integration package to do it automatically.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

ie. 24/04/2008 17:25:00 would just become 24/04/2008.
Even showing 24/04/2008 00:00:00 would be helpful.

I am trying to output data from SQL Server to an email body message with a little formatting (just to make it legible)
Using this SQL statement:
select top 1 'Name', app_first_name+' '+app_last_name [name] ,'Submission Date', submission_date ,'Address', app_address+', '+app_city+', '+app_state+' '+app_zip from vw_bpa_export where app_email = dave@email.com order by submission_date desc
the resulting output displays this in the email body
"Name","Brian Vogler","Submission Date","2008-01-30 07:45:00","Address","6285 Harrow Trace, Norcross, GA 30092 "
but what I want is the text to look more like this:
Name Brian VoglerSubmission Date 2008-01-30 07:45:00Address 6285 Harrow Trace, Norcross, GA 30092

I have a huge question haha. I just simply want to make a number display differently before I insert it into the table. for instance in Access, you can simply say FORMAT(c,format) ex: FORMAT(@CHARMINS, 00000) and it should work that way.
How would I accomplish this in SQL server? Right now I have the number 30 displaying as 30.00 in the variable it is set to.... I want it to be shown as 00030.... and any other number that is like 30.00, I want it shown the same way. Like 100.00 would be 00100. Thank you.

or some equivalent. I know in Access you could do this using the Format function, but I cannot seem to find anything like this in SQL.

Is it possible to format just part of a field? I've got a report that return a collection of users based on some search criteria. Bascially, you enter a string and the report returns all users with a user name or display name simialr to your search string. I wanted to highlight the part of the name that matches the search string.
For instance, if you search for 'nny'
You might see a result of 'Johnny User'

Hi. In our database, we have a Social Security Number field. We've made application upgrades and we can no longer have the dashes ( - ) between the numbers. So, I ran this update on our database to remove all the dashes. it did remove all the dashes except it put spaces in its spot:
UPDATE DefendantCase SET SSN = REPLACE(SSN, '-','')
so, i tried this query and it does nothing.
UPDATE DefendantCase SET SSN = REPLACE(SSN, ' ','')

Does anyone know if there is a way SQLMail can always send a message using a fixed font like Courrier? I use SQLMail to send out an invoice and even though I format the spacing, the email looks unformatted on some systems.
I am using Exchange 5.5, SQL server 6.5 sp4 and the recipients of the emails could have any email client.

Below is a snippet of MS SQL inside some VB that retieves
Commodity info such as product names and related information and returns the results in an ASP Page. My problem is that with certain searches, elements returned in the synonym field repeat. For instance, on a correct search I get green, red, blue, and yellow which is correct. On another similar search with different commodity say for material, I get Plastic, Glass,Sand - Plastic, Glass,Sand - Plastic, Glass, Sand. I want to remove the repeating elements returned in this field. IOW, I just need one set of Plastic, Glass and Sand. I hope this makes sense.

PS I tried to use distinct but with no luck I want just one of each in the example below.

Hello, I'm new to SQL Server, working for a non-profit computerizing alot of its data.I imported a table of people's names, birth dates, etc. into SS2005from Access, and the birth_date was imported as an Access date/timefield, giving it the datetime datatype in SQL.The column values look like:10/14/1964 12:00:00 AMWhere and how do I learn to specify that all fields like this should bein ISO format of yyyy-mm-dd??Do I have to create a new column and put all the dates into it??Should I just convert the data in queries/views??Use a constraint to format the data??I can redo the Access table if necessary, it is only 300-some rows.I tried BOL but it was not helpful...The end users will likely enter mm/dd/yy or mm/dd/yyyy and it will haveto be stored properly in the database table as column/fieldbirth_date...Thank you, Tom

It's RichText.
The fs20 could be fs24, fs25, etc. (any numbers). The end of the number would be the point to trim the beginning off.
The '' seems like it would be the point to start trimming the end off.
I've been experimenting with SUBSTRING together with CHARINDEX, but am just not getting even close to coming up with a solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
