Repairing Corrupt MSDB File In SQL Server 2000.
Jun 13, 2001
Hi,
I am having problems with my SQL server Agent.
1) When I try to create a New Job/Alert/Operator, I get an error message:
Error 207: Invalid Column Name "category_id"
Invalid Column Name "netsend_address"
Invalid Column Name "last_netsend_date"
Invalid Column Name "last_netsend_time"
.....All these are referring to columns in System Tables of the system Database MSDB.
2)In another SQL Server...say "A", in it's SQL Server Agent, using the Multi-Server Administration, I set up the SQL Server Agent of "A" as the Master (MSX) server, and set up a Target(TSX) server pointing to the Server "B" that has problems in SQL Agent....referred in 1) above. When I try to "Detach the MSX Server" from server B, i get a message Error 207: Invalid Column Name "netsend_address", and cannot detach..........This is again referrring to a System Table.
It appears that the problem is with the MSDB database being corrupt. Is there a way I can Repair a Corrupt MSDB without Re-installing SQL Server 2000 and without a Backup.
Any help greatly appreciate.
Thanks
Russell

Does anyone know a process for repairing a corrupt syslogs table (mssql 6.5). I have tried checkdb, newalloc and rebuilding the extents. All the latter did was screw up the device assignment. Any suggestions?

Suddenly one day I found some corruptions have occurred in my SQL Server 2012 installation. Because my 'msdb' has been marked SUSPECT/CORRUPT; hence no new work can be done as per my schedules.
I have gone about trying to repair it. I followed this article here: [URL] [the region 'Create new MSDB Database'].
I am facing some sizeable difficulties in doing this on my own. Steps 1. & 2. I have done. I am now stuck at step no. 3.My instance name is SQLEXPRESS. So, when I give,
SQLCMD -E -S<SQLEXPRESS> -dmaster -Q"EXEC sp_detach_db msdb"Â [as per the article], what I get is:
The System cannot find the file specified.
So I am stuck at that point. What's with the 'cannot find file specified'? The stored procedure, or the mdf, ldf files for my msdb? What is it?Also, if and when I am through with step no. 3 I would like to know about steps 5. & 6. also which are soon to follow [like how to do them correctly, safely and from where, the different options]. This is a huge priority for me to get my sql server up and running again because I can't do my other coding works without it. Everything is stalled. Slowly reaching the desperation, SOS mode..

After implementing a recommendation to perform dbcc checkalloc before nightly backup, I began getting the error below on msdb. Books Online suggests restoring from a known clean backup. We have only been using SQL Server for a few weeks and it seems that all our backups of msdb have the same problem. Is there any way of correcting this problem?

I have some corruption in MSDB. I don't have a backup from before the corruption. The server is a standby server which we use database mirroring to keep in sync. Everything with the server appears to be fully functional with exception of the following error in the error log:
Error: 824, Severity: 24, State: 2.
SQL Server detected a logical consistency-based I/O error: incorrect pageid (expected 1:1863; actual 0:96). It occurred during a read of page (1:1863) in database ID 4 at offset 0x00000000e8e000 in file 'F:MSSQL.1MSSQLDATAMSDBData.mdf'. Additional messages in the SQL Server error log or system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB). This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Online.
I see my options as:
- Try to repair using Checkdb (this makes me nervous that I might loose data that is important to the system leaving Agent or the server in a disfunctional state)
- Rebuild MSDB following these instructions: http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlserverstorageengine/archive/2006/06/06/619304.aspx (I have SP 1 installed on this box so I'm not sure if using the RTM MSDB script will break something)
Questions:
- How can I rebuild MSDB using the RTM script (instmsdb.sql) on server with SP1?
- How will rebuilding msdb affect database mirroring?

Has anyone ever seen fatal error 1109, I cannot find any info on it. Also, our msdb was either corrupted at a clients site or someone deleted it and tried to recreate it to cover themselves....any how...all of the stored procedures are missing from it and it will not let us back up data or schedule tasks...do I need to re-install SQL Server 6.5 to fix this?
Thank you.

In doing a System Restore an error occurred in my SQL 2005. I've researched the thing, and am prepared to uninstall and reinstall SQL Server 2005, however, even tho I am administrator it will not uninstall. It will not reinstall over the previous install that's in place.
When I go through Control Panel to Add and Remove, when I click uninstall SQL Server 2005 it merely flashes a new window for a second and then does nothing. It will not start an uninstall action.
I don't know what to do short of a full XP Pro re-install.

I was successfully able to installing sql server 2005 developer edition all peices except the "Workstation Component, Book Online, Development Tool", the last item in the installation list. It gave errror for bad sql.cab file. Although this developer edition came directly of the box this error came up in many attempts. Upon "Ignore" it gives error 2350.
I am able to run sql server's all the services and able to access it via VS.Net server browser. I can create and change tables etc. but there is no "Management Studio" installed. There is no icon for it either on the desktop or in the Start->SQL Server 2005 menu.
Is it possible to get and copy sql.cab file or entire client component from somewhere else? --Freed download or something? I searched for sql.cab file but it was not in the CD. It could be inside some other file or cmpressed.
Any suggestion.

I am attempting to move some SQL 2000 databases to SQL 2005. My main production database does not seem to want to move. When I use the SQL 2005 GUI the .bak backup file is marked 'Incomplete'. When I attempt to restore the backup file I get a 'RESTORE detected an error on page (0:0) in database' message. I saw a thread in the SQL Express forum suggesting trying to restore from the T-SQL level to get the GUI out of the picture and I get the same 'error on page (0:0)' message. However when I take the same file and use SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager it restores with no problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks

My installation of SQL 2000 is corrupt. THis occured after I uninsalled MS Business Contact Manager and then uninstalled SQL Server (Following ther advice of MS).
I then accidemtly installed an incorrect language version of the software (Dutch) instead of English. Uninstalled via the Add / Remover Programes tools and tried to reinstall the english version.
I have read artical 830477 which explains how to correct the situation however I donot know where to find the original setup files. (SQLrun01.msi) Are they hidden somewhere on the MSOffice 2003 CD or on the Business Contact Manager CD? If so where.
Also I am unable to remove the Business Contact Manager Software because the SQL installation is currupt.
Any advice as to how to solve this issue would be appreciated.

Robert writes "Is it possible to recover any data from a database that is throwing the following error in query analyzer?

After setting the db in single_user mode, I tried dbcc checkdb with repair_allow_data_loss option and received the following:

The error has been repaired.
I get the same message each time I run the DBCC command.
I can select * from sysindexes with no problem.
If I select * from sysindexkeys, I get the following:
msg 601, level 12, state 3, line 1
could not continue scan with nolock due to data movement.
I'm wondering if sysindexkeys is corrupt and causing this problem?...
I have also tried to bcp data out of the database with no success.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I have a SSIS package that reads a SQL database and generates a flat file(.csv ) in some other system. This flat file is being read by another software tool to do further processing. The package is scheduled as SSIS job.I deployed in the production around 1 month back and it was working fine. Around 1 week back, there was a job failure for the SSIS package. The error log suggested that the problem is with some buffer management and temp file usage in the system where the csv file is generated. The error was rectified by giving appropriate permissions to the folder and temp area to the user that is running the SSIS job on the sql server. After that, the job has run successfully and the csv file is also generated. The format of the csv file seems to be correct. But however, the third party software tool is not being able to read the file treating it as invalid file.
I have no access to the production environment. Can anyone suggest is to do anything with the SSIS package and how can the issue be resolved?
Any help would be highly appreciable.
Many Thanks

I have merge replication set up between sql mobile and sql 2005 (just recently upgraded from sql 2000). My publication has around 40 published tables, about half of them are filtered. The other day I noticed that the initial replication to get the entire database was downloading the same tables multiple times. The last test was each table was downloaded 10 times. So I did some research which brought me to the following fix, which was to implement dynamic snapshots.
However, when I try to replicate, it generates a dynamic snapshot, but it fails with the following error€¦
An error occurred while reading the .bcp data file for the 'MSmerge_rowtrack' article. If the .bcp file is corrupt, you must regenerate the snapshot before initializing the Subscriber. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147199428)
I haven€™t changed the snapshot locations, and if I don€™t use dynamic snapshots it works fine. I€™ve tweaked the permissions (in development) to the point where everyone has full permission on the IIS share, and snapshot folder with no luck.
I would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Hi,
Some of the data files on our database got corrupted. Is there any tool to get just the data out of the data files and dump somewhere. We can manually rebuild the database using the schema scripts and loading the data. Appreciate any help. Any suggestions are welcome too.
Thanks.

Matt writes "Greetings! Warning, I'm a rookie. I wrote a stored procedure to pull data in order to do a nightly export/import from one system to another. I have a batch file that looks like this:
bcp "exec WinSNAP_retrieveStudents '0607'" queryout c:WinSNAPData06.txt -c -U user -P password
Sometimes, the file works and I get perfectly formed data, with everything just as I've requested (mostly basic demographic information: names, addresses, etc.).
But, other times the output file contains nothing but garbage characters, like this:
剒乏†††††††††ठ䅍啎䱅†††䴉㐉㐷‰䕓䄠䅐䡃⁅剄
The file size looks right, but it contains nothing but characters like this from beginning to end. I can find no pattern as to why/when good data gets pulled versus the corrupt data. I can run the batch file one minute and get good data, and run it the next minute and it's all corrupt. We have the batch file scheduled late at night when no users are online, and I get the same results -- one day it works, the next it doesn't.
Forgive me if this is a well-documented issue -- my searches so far haven't turned up a thing!
Thanks much for any advice you can provide!!

As the title indicates, I'm having this error during installation. It occurs when I try to install
the "Management Studio" part of the program. I've tried a bunch of things like
copying to hard drive and installing, but to no avail. To isolate the problem, i've even tried removing Reporting services, since at the time of failure it seems to be trying to install/configure the Microsoft.Reporting Services dll.
Additionally, I have SQL Express installed (installed it separately, not as part of the SQL 2005 DVD), VS 2005, .NET Framework 2.0, SQL Management Studio Express CTP. Could the Management Studio Express be causing a problem?
Please note:
Although the error is about missing / corrupt Sql.cab, I have searched the entire dvd for the said file, but there is no file called Sql.cab on the dvd. Am I missing something?
Any solution would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Hi ALL,
Somehow one of tables in my database with clustered index got tempered and the pageid are not in proper order. I tried the checkdb command with repair_rebuild option but it is giving the following error.
Table error: Object ID 1984530649, index ID 1. Page (1:254682) is missing a reference from previous page (1:254681). Possible chain linkage problem.
Server: Msg 8936, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Table error: Object ID 1984530649, index ID 1. B-tree chain linkage mismatch. (1:254680)->next = (1:256198), but (1:256198)->Prev = (1:256197).
Not able to reindex the index of table. I can not even export the data to any other table with same structure.
Please help me...........
Thanks,
Pracheer

I hope someone can help me here. Here is some background.
As I was attempting to download SQL Express, the download dialog box timed out. When I x-ed out of the download, Windows XP Professional 2002 threw up an error message indicating that the dialog box was non-responsive, and I elected to close it.
I downloaded SQL again successfully, and installed with no errors. I then attempted to create a new db through Visual Web Developer. Instead of creating a database, Visual Studio returned an error saying that I did not allow for new database objects, and that I should change my permission settings. I could not figure out how to do this, so I uninstalled SQL Express.
After re-starting, I got the following message: €œYour SQL Server Installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (could not open SQLEVN70.RLL). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this option.€?
I uninstalled MS SQL again from the Add/Delete Programs on my Control Panel. On re-start, I received the same error again. On my Programs list, MS SQL is not present, there are several MS SQL files in the path C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server.
So I located the Visual Studio uninstall tool and attempted to run it. I received the same error: €œYour SQL Server Installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (could not open SQLEVN70.RLL). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this option.€?
Any ideas on how to uninstall the files in my program files so I can load a clean copy of SQL?

When I log into Integrated Services on my SQL server, I see [Stored Package] -- File System and MSDB.
When I deploy/import my SSIS packages which should it go under? Is there a difference and if so what the difference?

This is terrible thing to happed at 4:30 pm on Friday!
I was working yesterday on some of deployment packages using file system (by the way, my msdb can not expand )
and just an hour ago I wanted to try some parent child deployment using file system.
but,
The only two folders I see in Integration services are Running Packages and Stored Packages. Nothing under those ones...
I have checked default location for File System (C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPackages) and there are three packages there but these do not show in IServices.
And another question, if I execute package by double clicking on .dstx file should that make it show under File System?
thanks

Thanks in advance. What is maximum SQL Server database (*.mdf) file size with SQL Server 2000 as part of Microsoft Small Business Server 2000? (Database files were limited to 10 GB in SBS 4.5 with SQLServer 7.0... has this changed?).

Hello anyone / everyone,
If you are having trouble accessing Meta Data Services on W2k3 and SQL 2000 and get the error that the "msdb database could not be opened" I found that hot fix 912812 on the operating system is the culprit. Remove it and Meta Data goes back to working, although I am being asked to approve the ActiveX control every time the page refreshes.
Hope this helps somebody, to took me long enough to track it down.
If anyone has a resolution to the ActiveX question I'd love to know the answer.
Thank you,
Uncle Davy

We found an interesting 'issue' in one of our productive user database:
The output of msdb..suspect_pages table:
db_idfile_idpage_idevent_typeerror_countlast_update
16 2 22 32015.06.12 10:40
16 2 3 3 3 2015.06.12 10:40
16 2 6 3 3 2015.06.12 10:40
16 2 7 3 3 2015.06.12 10:40
16 2 1 3 3 2015.06.12 10:40
The problem is, that this user database only has one data file and file_id 2 is the log file.I understand that the event_type shows checksum and torn page error but in the log file? DBCC CHECKDB shows no errors and the database is part of an AOAG in synchronized state. We have log backups in every 15 minutes.

On one of our SQL Server 2008R2 instances the MSDB log file (MSDBLog.ldf) has grown to 300GB+. The data (.mdf) file is only 3GB.
Neither DBCC Shrinkfile(MSDBLog) nor an interactive "Tasks / Shrink / ..."
I've already deleted much of the historyThe MSDB database is in "Simple" recovery modeI've done a full backup (in case the log was "waiting" for a backup)
I hesitate to do things (such as as Detach / Attach) with MSDB that I might do with a user database.

Last week I backed up my SQL Server by using BE 2012. I named the file "SQL Server BAK" which contained copies of my SQL Server databases. A few days ago I lost some part of my data due to accidental deletion. I backed it up, so I tried to restore the database from the .bkf file. The problem comes here, when I try to to restore my .bkf file, it becomes inaccessible.what causes this?

I'm using SQL 2005 Standard edition with Windows 2000 SP 4. Whenever Windows boots, I get this message 'SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (error getting instance ID from name). I've un-installed and re-installed SQL but I keep getting the same message. What's up with that? Is that a serious condition or should I ignore it? Any suggestions, anybody?
