REPLACE Integers With Text Data

Jun 14, 2006

I am working with a database named €śDocuments€? that contains 4 categories of text documents, each having its own number designation in an integer datatype column named SectionTypeId:

1 = Text
2 = Report
3 = Background
4 = Index

I would like to create a new column named €śDocType€? in which the integer data type for each document is replaced with a varchar data type letter (1 = T, 2 = R, 3 = B, 4 = I). I was able to easily create the new column and cast the data type from integer to varchar:

--CREATE NEW COLUMN €śDocType€? WITH VARCHAR DATATYPE

ALTER TABLE FullDocuments ADD DocType VARCHAR(1) NULL
Go

--UPDATE NEW COLUMN WITH CAST STRING

UPDATE FullDocuments SET DocType = CAST(SectionTypeID AS VARCHAR(1))
Go

But I have problems with the REPLACE method for replacing the numbers with letters. First I tried this based on the examples in MSDN Library:

--REPLACE NUMBERS WITH LETTERS

UPDATE Fulldocuments REPLACE (DocType,"1","T")

Which produced an error message: €śIncorrect syntax near 'REPLACE'.€?

Thinking that the datatype may be the problem, I tried this to convert to DT_WSTR data type prior to replace:

UPDATE Fulldocuments REPLACE ((DT_WSTR,1)DocType,"1","T")

Which produced the same error message: €śIncorrect syntax near 'REPLACE'.€?

I have never done a REPLACE before, so any suggestions for accomplishing this would be appreciated.

And I need the output in the following form:

The logic being that multiple and consecutive occurrences of the special character, here - pipe , should be replaced by a single special character.

Multiple Occurrences

If I want to return records where a column has similar data and occurs more than once what is the function?

Ex. If a database contains:
Column 1 Column 2 Column 3
1 Dog White
2 Cat Brown
3 Dog Black
4 Mouse Black
5 Cat White

and I want to show all records where the 2nd column has more than one occurrences so that I get both records where Dog appeared and both records where Cat appeared (since each appeared more than 1 time) - what do i need to write as my function?

Counting Occurrences Of A Value

Jul 19, 2007

I have a column in a report with values Y or N or V. In the header, I have to show the number of times each value appeared.

I used RepeatingValue() with IIF() but it's counting all the values as same, e.g., if there are four occurrences of Y, two of N and one of V, I want something like this:

Y Cnt=4, N Cnt=2, V Cnt=1

My assumption was that this will work (white spaces added for readability:

=iif(

Fields!myCol.Value = "Y",

"Y Cnt=" & RunningValue(Fields!myCol.Value, Count, "dsMyDataSet"),

iif(Fields!myCol.Value = "N",

"N Cnt= & RunningValue(Fields!myCol.Value, Count, "dsMyDataSet"),

iif(Fields!myCol.Value = "V",

"V Cnt= & RunningValue(Fields!myCol.Value, Count, "dsMyDataSet"),

"NULL"

)

)

)

Please help.

COUNT Occurrences Of Value In Aggregate Query

I have a table as below:
COMPUTERNAME, COUNTER, REASON
WXP-13Failed
WXP-1113Failed
WXP-38Failed
WXP-910Failed
WXP-117Success

What I would like to do is create a percentage of Success vs. the Failed for the same Computername.
Problem is when I use Group by I cannot tell the COUNTER of the Success anymore. This is what I have been using:

SELECT COMPUTERNAME, SUM(COUNTER) AS COUNTERTOTAL
FROM
ReturnTable
GROUP BY COMPUTERNAME

Thank you. The above query actually targets a result table from another query, but that should not matter.

SQL XML :: Multiple Occurrences Of Same Sibling - How To Get Only Desirable One

Sep 9, 2015

I am working with a pretty complicated xml document but I am only trying to grab specific information.

The issue I am having is that the info I am after is in a node>parent>sibling where there are similar repeating siblings.

<ClinicalDocument xmlns="urn:hl7-org:v3">
<realmCode code="US" />
<typeId extension="POCD_HD000040" root="2.16.840.1.113883.1.3" />
<templateId root="1.2.840.114350.1.72.1.51693" />
<templateId root="2.16.840.1.113883.10.20.22.1.1" />
<templateId root="2.16.840.1.113883.10.20.22.1.2" />
<id assigningAuthorityName="EPC" root="1.2.840.114350.1.13.291.2.7.8.688883.87504" />

[code].....

Here is my query:

WITH XMLNAMESPACES(DEFAULT 'urn:hl7-org:v3')
SELECT t.document_id,
t.person_id,pref.value('title[1]', 'varchar(255)') AS Title,

[Code] ....

This almost gives me what I need but I am only concerned with, in this case, the first sibling component but it is also picking up Information from the second.  in this case it is picking up the caption containing "Strep A Antigen Scrn, Cult if Indicated (09/07/2015  6:35 PM EDT)" Also the number of components siblings change from document to document and although in this example I am trying to get the first component sibling, in actuality the component sibling is more towards the bottom.

Is there a way to only grab the info under the <title> in the component sibling I am after?

It will always be <title>Visit Diagnoses</title>. Is there a way to pinpoint this in the above query? Or am I going at it all wrong?

Wildcard For Integers Or Something?

Dec 10, 2001

I'm writing a stored procedure where one of the arguments (WHERE area) really only needs to be used in some circumstances. I.e., when the procedure is passed a USER_ID it needs to check that against the database, but in some instances I'll send 0 instead of a real USER_ID, and in those cases it should return all records regardless of the ID.

Here's what I've got:
...
and b.user_ID = CASE @user_ID WHEN 0 THEN '%'
ELSE @user_ID
...
...the problem being the '%' part. That won't work on an integer column.

Does anyone have any ideas here?

Thanks,

but inside Groups I would like a column that contains ID numbers for the members that be long to that group.

Being that members can belong to multiple groups - I can not use a GroupID in Members - if so I also need a way of it modular.

Obvisiously I am not a very good DB programmer - but I want the least amount of empty/unused space in my tables.

Hope this makes sense

Comparing Two Integers And Returning A Third

Oct 20, 2006

I am having difficulty trying to figure out how to compare two integers stored in a table to return a third. I have two integer fields in one table and two in another like this:

Table1.SomeNumber1 = 1

Table1.SomeNumber2 = 2

Table2.SomeNumber1 = 2

Table2.SomeNumber2 = 1

I need to be able to compare the first number from the first table to the first number in the second table. If the values are different I need to set a variable or field to 0. If the numbers are the same I need to set my variable or field to 1.

I need to follow the same procedure comparing the second number in the first table to the second number in the second table. In addition, I need to be able to do it in a single select statement.

Does anyone have any ideas on how this could be done? Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

Converting Integers To DateTime

Jun 12, 2007

It seems I am facing again an unsurmountable problem It should be so simple but one has to spend hours researching how to handle it. The MSDN help on this subject is increadibly obscure.

I have input parameters @months int, @days int, @years int in a stored procedure.

All I want to do is to get a DateTime variable out of them.

DECLARE @dated DateTime.

Thus I want @dated to be set to a DateTime value with month = @months, day = @days and year = @years. The MSDN help says that no CAST should be used since the conversion from int to DateTime should be implicit!!

No examples are given. They seem to show how to CAST or CONVERT varchar to DateTime. Shall I first convert my int to varchar?

It is rudiculous. I've tried dozens of variants. Please help.

Thanks.

Predicting A Continuous Value (run Minutes)

Oct 23, 2007

Hello,

I have a question regarding whether or not Data Mining can be utilized in a specific problem I have to solve.

Situation: I€™m going to simplify the problem by explaining it in terms of a €śpizza manufacturer€?. Suppose I wanted to predict the run minutes + downtime minutes (I use these to get an hourly rate: Pizzas/(run hrs + delay hrs) = Pizzas per hour) by looking at a set of input properties.

My properties could be something like the following:
# of Toppings
# of Special Pricing Stickers
Cardboard Box Indicator
Case Indicator (0 represents auto-casing, 1 represents putting in case by hand)
Machine Type (0 or 1€¦ 0 represents an older €“slower machine, 1 is newer)
Quantity of Run
(there could be up to 15 other properties that may or may not impact our rate)

Measured Values:
Run Minutes
Delay (down) minutes

Steps I€™ve Done So Far:
I€™ve created a couple different data mining models for this as I was unsure which one(s) to use. I checked the lift chart while feeding back in the original data set and my scatter plot appeared fairly inaccurate.

I've attempted to use Excel to create a linear regression, however my r squared value was always around .30. I decided to try to use SQL Server Data Mining to see if it could be something to help predict our accuracy better than a linear formula.

I've played with a couple different algorithms in Data Mining, and it appeared that none of them did exceptionally well with prediction. I even checked the lift chart using the same table as I used to train the model.

What algorithm(s) might work the best?
Can I reasonably expect a prediction within a fairly strict tolerance (I'm guessing the answer to this is: "yes, if your source data represents a consistent pattern")?
How can I best utilize Data Mining to give an answer like "historically, your run rate has been between these 2 values with a probability of X". I'm thinking I can utilize the predictprobability and stdev to some extent.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone needs further clarification, please let me know.

Thank you.

Regards,

Dan

Continuous Attribute &&amp; Complexity_Penalty

Apr 27, 2007

I am having one question about discretization of continous attributes
values. How does it work? I need this information for my thesis. I have a
continous attribut, namely SKS, with range 0-20. When I use Microsoft
Decision Tree algorithm, this attribut split in SKS <= 18 and SKS > 18. I
want to know how does it find 18 as a number to split not the other.

One question again about Microsoft Decision Tree algorithm, about
Complexity_Penalty parameter. How does it affect the algorithm? For example,
if I set this value=0.1 what does it mean and how does it correspond with
growth tree?

Thanks a lot before for your kindness to answer my questions.. :-)

Dividing Integers To Produce A Percentage

I'm embarassed I haven't figured this out already but here goes.

Lets say you need a percentage from dividing two integers for example

"select 2000/4000"

This will produce a zero and I'm assuming that is because of the datatypes involved (the values are coming from columns where the datatype is int)

I've tried converting the values to decimal types but I keep getting overflow erros unless I use very small values.

As always, thanks VERY MUCH for the kind advice.

(DT_I8)[ID] + (DT_I8)840230000538058

and

[ID] + 840230000538058

and get the same error.

What am I doing wrong? Is it possible to add 2 8-byte integers in regular expression? Why does it still think the literal is DT_I4?

Thanks,

Michael
