Replicate Between To MSSQL 2000 Servers
Mar 2, 2006
Hello
I have 2 locations, that each has an MSSQL 2000 server.
Since the locations are to far from each other and the connection is
very slow.
My thought was to have a database on both servers that should replicate
“on the fly” or as asynchronous sync.
The problem is that both locations work in the database frequently. So
it’s very important that there are no duplicate IDs.
Is that possibly and how?

I have been asked to upgrade 5 SQL2000 servers to SQL2005. These servers replicate between each other forming a circle of replication. I am concerned of the implications involved in the upgrade because of the reliance on the replication.
Can anyone please give me advice on upgrading where replication is active. Will replication continue to work between 2000 and 2005 servers as it may not be possible to upgrade all the servers in one shot. Any advice on upgrading where replication is already active would be helpfull.
Thanks.

I am in the middle of a major migraton project, moving from x86 SQL 2000 to IA64 SQL 2005. I have a business need to link to several legacy servers. I have a number of problems I am trying to solve.
1) Linking a Kerberos server to a non-Kerberos server.
2) Linking x64 or IA64 servers to x86 servers.
3) Linking SQL 2005 to SQL 2000.
Two of the errors I am encountering are:
------------------------------
TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "SCDC250DB" returned message "Communication link failure".
(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10054)
------------------------------
And
------------------------------
The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for the linked server "SCDC250DB" reported an error. Authentication failed.
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "SCDC250DB".
OLE DB provider "SQLCLI" for linked server "SCDC250DB" returned message "Invalid authorization specification".
(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7399)
If someone has worked through these problems before, I would appreciate it if you could direct me to the relevant documentation to resolve these issues.
Thanks!

Hi,
I am a bit new to the MSSQL server. In our application, we use so many SQL queries. To imporve the performance, we used the Database enigine Tuning tool to create the indexes. The older version of the application supports MSSQL 2000 also. To re-create these new indexes, I have an issue in running these "CREATE INDEX" commands as the statements generated for index creation are done in MSSQL 2005. The statements include "INCLUDES" keyword which is supported in MSSQL 2005 but not in MSSQL 2000.
Ex:-
CREATE INDEX IND_001_PPM_PA ON PPM_PROCESS_ACTIVITY
(ACTIVITY_NAME ASC, PROCESS_NAME ASC, START_TIME ASC, ISMONITORED ASC)
INCLUDE
(INSTANCE_ID, ACTIVITY_TYPE, STATUS, END_TIME, ORGANIZATION);
Any help in creating such indexes in 2000 version is welcome.
Thanks,
Suresh.

We would like to replicate from a SQL 7 DB some data onto a SQL 2000 Server running SQL 2000. We plan to take some data off the SQL 7 DB's and create a Data Warehouse on the SQL 2000 Box.
Question: Will the data replicate successfully from the SQL 7 box onto the SQL 2000 box?

Hi all,
I have some questions about replicate data from MS SQL 2000 to Oracle 10g R2:
1. Is it only SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition support replication?
2. Is it the Oracle DB must install on Intel-based Windows server?
Thanks!

I've been tasked to move our production databases on MSSQL 2000 to 2005. I've supported MSSQL since version 6.5 and performed migrations to successor versions.
Current Environment is MSSQL 2000 32-bit with current Service Packs.
I've performed mock migrations on Test servers upgrading all Production instances simultaneously from MSSQL 2000 to 2005 32-bit. The Test environment is identical to Production minus server name, IP etc. Also I have a separate server with MSSQL 2005 installed where I use the DETACH / ATTACH and BACKUP / RESTORE method for migration / acceptance testing. There are approximately 30 databases totaling 70 GB. This has gone as expected and fairly successful. Vendors have been coordinated with to update code and staff for acceptance testing.
I'd prefer going directly to MSSQL 2005 64-bit instead if possible due to memory benefits etc. This is where I'd like some feedback prior to borrowing a 64-bit server for testing.
Upgrade options:
1. Is it better to migrate from MSSQL 2000 32-bit to 2005 64-bit via:
a. DETACH / ATTACH
b. BACKUP / RESTORE
c. Is one method more advantageous relating to the end result?
2. Regarding XP clients, have issues been experienced with the default SQL Server driver or is an alternate recommended for XP clients to connect to a MSSQL 64-bit server databases?
3. If you have performed this migration and have relevant experience please pass them along.

Greetings:I am trying to conceive what risks might be created by runningmultiple SQL servers within a domain under a single domain account, asopposed to 1) running under the local service account or 2) multipledomain service accounts. In this case, all the SQL servers are SQL2000 running on Win2003. Theservice account is assigned only to the "Domain Users" group. We do use linked server calls, and I have played and suceeded gettingKereberos up to avoid double hop issues when using Windows Auth. Infact, this is one of the reasons that sparked the question in my mind-- in all the MS Kerebos SQL<->SQL examples, the SQL servers run undera unique service account. As an aside, most of the servers are "line of business" servers, butHR runs under a unique server with more sensitive information. I don'treally think that merits a seperate service account, but again, Icould well be missing something.I mostly looking for food for thought, but concrete examples ofgotchas would be appreciated. Thanks all.d.

Hi,
I am now trying to configure Log Shipping in my compeny but I have encountered some difficulties. The destination site and the source site are far from each other and the transaction logs are too big, this situation causes an huge overload on our private network (we use WAN which is complitly disconnected from the internet). Is there any way to compress the transacion logs with zip or rar and combine it in the log shipping mechanizem?
Is there another way for making this files smaller?
I would be greatful for any ideas in this matter.
Thanks in advance,

I'm working with SQL Server 2000 installed in Windows 2000. When i tried to add the 'servername' as a linked server , i got the following message:
" Error: 15038. The Server 'servername' already exists."
When i execute "sp_linkedservers" , i could see the name "servername" in the list. But before doing this i had Restored the "MSDB" database on this server. Should i use "sp_droplinkedservers" and add them again.
Any comments are most welcome.
Thanks, Santha.

I had a website that ran with one server that had SQL 2000 as the DB. I have upgraded to two webservers with MS SQL 2000 on both machines and a load balancer in front of the two servers to handle sending requests to the server with the least load.
My problem is, I am not sure how to start to work my second server with the MS SQL. I need to make sure both DB's are exact duplicates of each other so if a user hits one server they are pulling up the same info as another user hits the other server.
I have a lot of queries running on the ASP pages I use, several pages use search forms for many various processes, and I have several pages that are for users to input information that is to be stored and sent out via email to all the other members.
Not by any means am I a SQL guru of any kind, I am lucky I know what it is
So, can anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should look for or into to work the best possible process to keep these DB's mirrored?
Now these servers are on their own private network using a second NIC card, I did this so the SQL can talk between the servers without using the public network bandwidth.
How do I keep these SQL DB's duplicated?
What are some great suggestions?
Have you done this before? if so, what has worked best for you? Is it hard to do for someone with limited DB experience? (I learn really quick if I know what I need to learn)
At this point I am confused as to what the best practice would be. Help?
