Hi all,
I have a problem is that I cannot perform the transacional replication from one server (ms-sql2k) to other server (mssqlserver).
The error show below :
Log Reader Agent - Is not a valid win32 application.
I try to setup another server (mssql2k) to do the same thing, there is no error appeared.
Therefore, I have doubt that the name of the computer using "-" will have problem. Or the registry of (ms-sql2k) may have problem because it had wrongly installed personal edition and re-installed the standard verions afterwards.

New to SQL Server installations. I downloaded the SQL Server Express with Advanced; when I double click the Setup.exe, I get a pop-up "document path/file is not a valid Win32 application". I upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro SP2.0. Any suggestions?
Ok..So the story is I'm trying to install a SQL Server 2005 SP2 upgrade from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=d07219b2-1e23-49c8-8f0c-63fa18f26d3a&DisplayLang=en
I'm sure my computer is either x64 or ia64, and I have downloaded both the installation files but both of them give me the same error, when the installation bar at the start is pretty much full, it gives me a "hotfix.exe is not a valid Win32 application." error. And instead of installing it to the usual C: directory, it installs to the F: directory..And it does not give me an option to choose which directory I want to install it into..
My operating system is a Windows XP Pro..
Hope somebody can help me out soon.. Thanks in advance.
i'm trying to install MS SQL 2005 Enterprise Evaluation Edition, on my Win XP Pro SP2 (Intel Centrino 1.73Ghz, 1GB RAM)... i have downloaded the self-extractable file (SQLEVALX64.EXE) from MS website... After extracting this file to a folder and clicking on "setup.exe" - resulting in "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application" error message...
Today I ran into the error (see title of this post) while trying to execute a batch file using SSIS. If anyone else runs into this problem I want to point them to my post on the issue, as I did not easily find a solution when doing the search myself: http://blog.lyalin.com/2008/02/1-is-not-valid-win32-application-ssis.html
Summary (So you dont need to visit my blog):
I was trying to execute a totally empty placeholder batchfile and this produces the "%1 is not a valid win32 application" error when using Execute Process Task. Simply add something to your placeholder file (like DIR command) and you can continue running your package without error
I hope this saves someone time in the future.
Comments? If anything in my post is inaccurate I hope you guys post some corrections.
I am using a windows xp sp 2. I have visual web developer 2005 express edition. .net Framework 2. but when i downloaded the sql 2005 express edition. when i click on the sqlexpr.exe. I receive a message " sqlexpr.exe is not a valid win32 application".

Well someone help me please with the sql server. i have almost given it up and using this tool for my last resort.
I have a stored procedure that works when executed in query analyzer. (It is also way too long to post here) When called from my application ado.net returns the error:
Invalid object name #idTable
If I run the proc in query analyzer using the same parameters (copied from quickwatch while debugging) there is no error.
While very complicated, this procedure runs quickly so timing out is not an issue.
Does anyone know why a proc would run in query analyzer and not in an asp.net/c# application?

The same tables in a different on a different SQL box (test) replicate fine, but on this box (production) they do not. Any idea what would be the difference in the two environments?
I suspect that the "dbo." part in the "alter table" is what it is messing up on... how can I tell SQL CE not to include that schema prefix? Thanks
I'm developing a scientific appliation - to forecast the spread of disease. The algorithm has been designed such that different subpopulations reside on separate computers.
The model uses the same set of data repeatedly, and only returns a small signature that reflects the appropriateness of a particular set of parameters.
The model does however change, and I'm looking for a way to roll out this model (which only contains T-SQL, CLR assemblies and service broker code).
I have considered setting up a database on each computer which has the 'data' files which are static, and a separate database which contains the algorithm which can be amended.
Could one then detach the algorithm database making the new version that can then be rolled out (by attaching it to each computer used)?
Is this the best practice? Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to do this?
I'm trying to debug some CLR UDTs that uses unsafe acess to a win32 dll, I'm modifying both the win32 DLL and the UDTs DLL at the same time.
To let SQL server load the win32 DLL I've put ot into the ...Binn directory, all worked ok. Now I want to update the win32 DLL... and here cames troubles :
- I've tied to stop sqlserver / overwrite DLL / start sqlserver, but does not works. The DLL is also 'overwiteable' while SQL server is using it... this makes me think that sqlserver stores the win32 DLL in other places (maybe inside the DB) and does not uses the original one in the Binn dir
- I've tried to reload the CLR assembly, doen't works
- I've also tried to drop and recreate the assembly and doesn't works too... anyway this is not even possible in a production server since it would require me to drop all tables that uses the UDTs.
(does't works means that the win32 DLL behavior is the same)
} if (ReplicationComplete != null) ReplicationComplete(this, true); } catch(Exception ex) { if (ReplicationComplete != null) ReplicationComplete(ex, false); }
}
Then later, if I try to update, insert or delete to the database, the application will hang. I can read from it, but I cannot write. If I close the application down and open it back up without replicating, I will not get any lockups. It also will not hang up after any replications prior to the create replication. I think I am doing something wrong in the initial replication that is holding on to some connection to the DB causing it to lock up. Has anyone seen anything like this before?
I wanted to know if there is a way to connect to my MSSQL without having to setup a datasource in the control panel.
Perferably I want to locate the database within my perl code instead. I don't want to have to setup a datasource each time I need a different database. Perhaps there is a way to pass the name of the database along with the username and password through the command line.
I'm not exactly sure when this error occured, as I typically access databases running on a server. However, I've recently encountered this error when trying to access my local instance of SQL Server 2005 Developer edition. I'm assuming it's due to a recent windows update.
The dialog box that comes up with this error is titled: Microsoft .NET Framework The full error is: System.Exception: CryptUnprotectData: Win32 error:-2146893813
I'm working on porting a solution running under WM 5 Pocket PC to Win32 but I got some problems with type definitions like CEOID, CEGUID... I saw that these types are defined in windbase.h (EDB definition added to preprocessors) ) which includes types and definitions usefull for database managment. Anyway this header file is not present in C:Program FilesMicrosoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2Include, so I was wondering which is the header file I can use instead of it. Thanks
have SQL Server 2005 std edition SP1 installed on Windows 2003 Std edition .Configured Transactional (single Publisher and no clustered environment.) Replication past two months working fine, Now 1.Distrib.exe application err is coming.
Due to which my job is failing (Distributor to Subscriber). Iam attaching thw file. Thanks Sandeep
hello,everybody ,i use the AnalysisServicesExecuteDDLTask ,but it dap an error "DDL is not valid",i don't konw what is the problem and how to solve?thank you!
im doing a sum on a table and it either returns a number in decimal format or 'null' . The problem is when it returns null i want it to just make the text say '0.00'. So i did a test on the object that if it returns NULL just print '0.00' but if it is not null it tells me that there is a number there and i want to store that as a decimal and print it out. But i get an error for a type cast when im not it should not even be going to that part of the code. In the code below the first executescaler will return null so it should just go straight to the else. But it gives me the type cast error in the if that shouldnt be seen. The error and code are below. //Borrower NSF FEES cmd.CommandText = "select sum(itemamount) from postmtdtls where loanid='" + LoanID + "' and Transactioncode = '310'"; object temp = cmd.ExecuteScalar(); if (temp != null) { decimal B_NSFFees = ((decimal)cmd.ExecuteScalar()); borrowerPayoff_NSFFees.Text = String.Format("{0:#,#.##}", B_NSFFees).ToString(); //Borrower NSF FEES } else { borrowerPayoff_NSFFees.Text = "0.00"; //borrowerPayoff_NSFFees.Text = "0.00"; } Server Error in '/WebSite5' Application. I'm trying to install MSDE SP3 which I downloaded from MS at http://www.asp.net/msde/. Following the instructions as best I can I unzipped the file into a Folder now called MSDE located on C: I then went to a command prompt and typed in the command given to start the install:
setup SAPWD=testsite SecurityMode=SQL
Hit enter and the installer started up and ran for a few secs and then came back with
The Instance named specified is invalid
There was no mention of including an instance name or the format for it.
Suggestions please?
Also, if I want to completly uninstall MSDE if I need to how would I do it?
Can't seem to find why I'm getting this error: Specified cast is not valid. Ok, using a stored procedure for SQL Server 2000 and here is the main part of it: SELECT id, rank, firstName, lastName, service, status, createdTime FROM accessRequest WHERE lastName LIKE @tLastName AND firstName LIKE @tFirstName And the C# code behind from the class file: SqlDataReader spResults; conn.Open(); spResults = command.ExecuteReader(); while( spResults.Read() ) { AccessRequestSearch request = new AccessRequestSearch( (int)spResults.GetInt32( 0 ), spResults.GetString( 2 ), spResults.GetString( 3 ), spResults.GetString( 1 ), spResults.GetString( 4 ), spResults.GetString( 5 ), Convert.ToDateTime(spResults.GetString( 6 ))); searchResults.Add( request ); // Add to Array List } spResults.Close(); The part in red is where I think it's happening because that is what I just added to the request. createdTime in the table is set as DateTime. Can anyone see what I am missing here? More info is available if needed. Thanks, Zath
I have a question regarding the backup to use in case of consistency errors.
I'm backing up my dbs daily and logs hourly with 'verify the integrity of the backup when completed' checked. Today I found out one of my tables has 1 page id error (dbcc checkdb message from yesterday), I'm wondering if I can use yesterday's full backup even if it's done after the dbcc, that way I don't have to apply a lot less log backups. In other words, does or does not the full backup inherit the corruption if it is done after consistency errors and the backup passes the integrity verification.
I'm having this really strange issue with mirroring.
I've followed the instructions on http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191140.aspx to the letter, leaving out the witness server part, as I don't have one.
All works OK, but when activating the mirroring on the principal server I get the usual error 1418 error. I fired up SQL Server Profiler to see what was happening, and the following error emerged.
Connection handshake failed. The certificate used by the peer is invalid due to the following reason: Certificate not yet valid. State 104.
I do not know what I did wrong. I tested a simple function in my custom code and get the error saying "Character is not valid". Any help is appreciated!
Here is the function inside my custom code.
Shared Function test() As string
Dim items As Fields Return items("DataField1").Value;
End Function
I call the function in the body of my report using: Code.test()
and the error says "There is an error on line 18 of custom code: [BC30037] Character is not valid."
I get this error in a package which was executing previously. This is in SQLServer OLEDB DATASOURCE Error at Membership_Other_Payer [DTS.Pipeline]: The index is not valid.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Exception from HRESULT: 0xC0048004 (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap) This error occurs when I try to open my existing Oledb datasource. I have added some columns in my database Any body has solution for this?
