Replication Problem With Timestamp Field

Nov 13, 1998

I am trying to replicate tables in a sql server 6.5 which contain the timestamp field. An error occurs and it shuts the replication task off and it says it cannot update the timestamp field. If I choose vertical partitioning and do not replicate the timestamp field then an error occurs that insert value list does not match column list. Is it the case that the subscriber cannot have this field in the table?
Besides deleting the timestamp field from the table completely, is there another solution or am I forgetting to set something?

Replication Timestamp

Feb 24, 2006

Hi,
from the url--- http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;820675 I did the steps to implement the replication. However, i did not include a timestamp column in the tables. Is it important as to what would happen if i did not include this? I have the rowguidcol though. I thought this could would help to identify the various row.
Help pls?

Timestamp And Bi-directional Replication

Sep 27, 1999

The docs state that a timestamp column is required for bi-directional
replication. I am not syncing the databases since they are too big and
it is a new project so I can guarantee at start that there will be two
exact copies of data. The data is being converted from a FoxPro db to
sqlserver.

The question is:
How do you design the timestamp columns for partioned bi-directional
replication? Does the publisher get the timestamp and the subscriber get
a binary(8)? Since there are two publishers is a distinct timestamp and
binary pair required for each server? See below...

Server: REP1 REP2
Table: tblTest tblTest
Columns: col1... col1...
tsREP1 timestamp tsREP1 binary(8)
tsREP2 binary(8) tsREP2 timestamp

Do the binary(8) columns need to be removed from the articles? Can
anyone explain how the timestamp is used to stop loop back? Is the loop
back check done on the Publisher or Subscriber?

Thanks,
Norman

Incrementing Or Updating A TIMESTAMP Field.

Jul 23, 2005

Hi,I'm in the process of implementing a multi-user system containing anadjacency list (tree structure). I'm using a TIMESTAMP field on eachrecord in the adjacency list in order to tell when a node has been changedsince the last read. Sometimes though, it is useful to flag a "parent" (orall ancestors or a node) as being changed if any of its children have. Isthere any way I can force an update to the parent TIMESTAMP field withoutactually modifying any of the other fields in the record? Something likethis (assuming I have a field called [Timestamp]):UPDATE Adjacency SET [Timestamp] = [Timestamp] + 1 WHERE ID = @_In_IDNow, will the timestamp be incremented here by 1, or will SQL server getconfused as in theory it must "update the timestamp after updating thetimestamp" for this record? Thanks,Robin

How Can I Maintain Timestamp Column In Replication Environment

May 27, 2008

Hi Friends

I have transactional replication,
The publisher DB contains table call Courser with timestamp column, this column values are unique for the publisher DB

The subscriber DB also contains same copy of data in publisher DB Course table, but the timestamp column values are different.

So my problem is how can I keep this two tables (Course) identically, (same timestamp column vales in both table)

NOTE: Publisher and Subscriber DB reside under two different SQL server instance

Thanks and regards

Extract Date Part Of Timestamp Column And Convert It To Char Field

Nov 28, 2012

Is there a way to extract the date part (11/27/2012) of a datetime/time stamp column (11/27/2012 00:00:00.000) and keep it in a date format?

The code i have below extracts the date part of a timestamp column and converts it to a char field. This becomes a problem when I joing the resultant table with a SAS dataset which contains the same column but is in a date format. The join process generates an error saying the column is in different formats.

convert(char(15), process_date,112) as process_dt

Error While Converting Oracle Timestamp To Sql Server Timestamp (datetime) - Invalid Date Format

I am populating oracle source in Sql Server Destination. after few rows it fails it displays this error:

[OLE DB Destination [16]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description:

I used this script component using the following code in between the adapters, However after 9,500 rows it failed again giving the same above error:

If Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST_IsNull = False Then

If IsDate(DateSerial(Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST.Year, Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST.Month, Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST.Day)) Then

dt = Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUST

Row.CALCULATEDETADATECUSTD = dt

I don't know if my code is right . Please inform, how i can achieve this.

Field Or Row Replication

Nov 7, 2007

Hi All,
A general question for you.
Does QSL replication work on a row by row basis or field by field.
e.g.
One user updates a field in row a on his table
a different user updates a different field on the same row (row a) on his table 10 secs later.

Does the first user's chnage get overwritten or will both chnages be kept?
Which model would I need for this?
Thanks

Replication - TEXT Field

Dec 30, 1998

I have a table that has a TEXT field and I want to replicate it. It already has a primary key field in it. I read that in SQL Server 6.5, you can do transactional replication on a table that has a TEXT field in it. I'm wondering if I need to do any other special configuration to replicate this table, i.e. enable the truncate on checkpoint option or anything else? Thanks, Hoang

Change Field Length W/ Replication

Jun 15, 2001

I have to modify field length in the table, which is part of publication. I tried to use an Enterprise Mgr and received an error message because that table is scheduled for replication.
Is any way around this beside temporary stopping and restarting replication? And actually how to do this to be sure that after restart the data will be again in sync.
We have SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition and Windows 2000 Advanced Server.

Replication Field Size Error

Apr 24, 2006

Hi,

I have been running a merge publication & 4-5 subscriber all running perfectly good, but today I started getting this error below? I generated a new dynamic snapshot and re init the subscriber, but still the same. I synchronized the other subscribers and they are all running with no errors, even after a init. I.E. I would think this is data related, to this subscriber, but I have no further ideas how to track it down?

any ideas?

Regards

Gert Cloete

bcp "conCORD_ODS"."dbo"."MSmerge_contents" in "\OBSQL2005\ConcordReplData\MERCURYSQLEXPRESSOBSQL2005$DEV_CONCORD_ODS_CONCORD_ODSMSmerge_contents90_forall.bcp" -e "errorfile" -t"<x$3>" -r"<,@g>" -m10000 -SMERCURYSQLEXPRESS -T -w

To obtain an error file with details on the errors encountered when initializing the subscribing table, execute the bcp command that appears below. Consult the BOL for more information on the bcp utility and its supported options.

End of file reached, terminator missing or field data incomplete

Field size too large

The process could not bulk copy into table '"dbo"."MSmerge_contents"'.

The merge process was unable to deliver the snapshot to the Subscriber. If using Web synchronization, the merge process may have been unable to create or write to the message file. When troubleshooting, restart the synchronization with verbose history logging and specify an output file to which to write.

Get Row Timestamp With No Timestamp Column

Jul 10, 2007

For starters, please feel free to move this if it is in the wrong forum.

The issue I have is this. I have been asked to delete all information from a table that was inserted before May 12 this year. The issue is that when the DB was created, whoever designedd it neglected to add a timestamp column for the user data table (the one I need to purge). Does SQL, by default, happen to store insert times? Would it be something that might hide ina log file somewhere?

Identity Primary Field In Merge Replication

Jul 23, 2007

Hello I currently have a merge replication set up with 4 subscribers. A primary field for one of my tables is set to a integer indetity.

What Ive noticed is that depending on which database I enter data into, the indentity field (primary key) is set within a certain range I.e

On Server 1 - Values start from 1 then 2,3,4 etc etc

Server 2 - 24001, 24002, 24003 etc etc

Server 3 - 46001, 46002, 46003 etc etc

Server 4 - 68001, 68002, 68003

My question is what happens when these ranges eventually conflict? Do they automatically gain a different range such as 142 001, 142 002 etc etc?

Ive tried looking in SQL Help, and a quick search here, Im just after some confirmation before I implement this to my app.

cheers

SQL Server 2008 :: Replication Error - Field Size Too Large

Feb 1, 2011

I've got two databases on the same server and replicate some tables from one database to another. The replication is configured so not to drop the table if it exists, but to delete the data based on the filter if one exists. There are two tables on the subscriber that have some extra columns.

I get "field size too large" error when trying to replicate them. Is there a workaround without having to make the publisher and the subscriber tables identical by schema?
