Replication - Row Not Correctly Sync

Jun 20, 2007

Hi Everyone!

I have a strange issue in my replicated databases.

I've a 5 merge subscribers replication schema. Our client discover a row that isn't matching with another database.

After some research it seam that the correct row is only at one database and all other database, have a the same row in a incoherent status.

Anyone have a idea on how this could happen?
I'm clue less right now

Thanks!

Replication:Unpublishing Not Unmarking Tables Correctly

Dec 30, 1998

A set of tables are published for replication, when I have to unpublish the tables in order to update their structures (i.e. drop and recreate), an error comes up to say that the tables are still marked for replication. I check sysarticles and no tables are listed and even if I completely take the database off of replication, still there are problems. I have looked at the stored procedures that publish/unpublish the selected articles and see that a bit in sysobjects.category is set/unset by a constant of 32. But when unpublishing, it is like this does not work. I have to go into the sysobjects table renumber the category number and try again to drop/recreate and still the problem occurs, so I have to do this once more and then it will work. VERY FRUSTRATING and TIME CONSUMING. I find it hard to believe that this is how to maintain this. Does anyone have any ideas? I unpublish the articles through the replication interface, so it should work.

HELP PLEASE!!

Besides Replication, What Other Alternatives To Sync Data?

Dec 23, 2004

I have 3 SQL databases: A, B and C. A and B are branch databases while C is the central (HQ) database. A & B will be constantly updated while C will updated occasionally and usually will be used for reporting/data browsing. Even though A & B are from different branch, they do have share some data records.

Every day, I will have to sync A & B's new/updated data to C and C to A/B. I know I can use Replication but I can't. You see, A & B are located in our own branch server while C was hosted on a third-party server. The webserver provider for C would not allow me to do any Replication on C.

What other alternatives that I can use to synchronise all 3?

DTS? XML transfer? It looks as if I have no choice but to write my own sync scripts? :((

Anyone has encountered similar situations? Any recommended SQL Tool programs?

Please help. I'm at a loss of what Im going to do.

Can anybody give me a step by step detail how to backup the publisher database and copy to a subscriber and sync by saying the schema and data already available. As we have WAN problem all the times, and when I try the full snapshot of 20 gig it was taking more than 24 hrs and also if the connection fails my snapshot also fails

Replication Sync On Windows Vista

May 28, 2007

On windows XP there is a Synchronize program in Accessories. When I run our replication scripts on a SQL Server Express on the XP machine and start the Synchronize program there are items there that allow me to replicate as well as set a schedule, etc.

On Windows Vista there is a Sync Center, but replication doesn't show up here.

I've searched high and low on Google and am not coming up with anything useful, which leads me to believe this is something very simple that I'm overlooking...

Does anyone know how to make your replication show up on the Sync Center in vista, or is there another application that I should download?

Thanks,

Problems With Merge Replication To CE Using WEB Sync

Jun 13, 2007

All,

I am trying to configure merge replication to a SQL CE database using web synchronization.

It works if IIS is on the same box as the SQL Server publisher but when I attempt this using separate boxes I get the following message.

Getting this message
Error messages:
· The schema script 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLReplDatauncPUBSERVER_TESTGOLFTEST_TESTGOLFTESTPUBFILTER20070601105864TESTTransType_2.sch' could not be propagated to the subscriber. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147024893)
Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL-2147024893
· The merge process was unable to deliver the snapshot to the Subscriber. If using Web synchronization, the merge process may have been unable to create or write to the message file. When troubleshooting, restart the synchronization with verbose history logging and specify an output file to which to write. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147201001)
Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL-2147201001

I have followed every bit of advice I can find in the MSDN forums, ensuring that the distributor is writing to a UNC and that the perms for the process are correct.

The 2 test servers are not in a domain and I wonder if this is the issue but connectivity between the 2 servers does not appear to be an issue as I am using administrative ids for connectivity for this test.

BOL is all over the place regarding this subject and I am linked out (perhaps the info I need is in there but who can find it?)

Any guidance would be truly appreciated.

We are running merge replication. My identity value was out of sync and the inserts stopped working. I Reseeded the identity value to 1500000 and ran "sp_adjustpublisheridentity" which set that to the new range (and table constraint) in the MSMerge file and table. I discovered my error and Reseeded the table back to 150000. How to I get the new range to be created when it is LESS than 1500000 in the MsMerge file???? Can I use the sp_restoreidentity....???

Merge Replication Schema Sync Problems

Sep 10, 2007

I am using a merge publication set to synchronize schema changes. Why am I getting the following message when I try to sync after having added columns in the publication database using ALTER TABLE statements?

The schema definition of the destination table ... in the subscription database does not match the schema definition of the source table in the publication database. Reinitialize the subscription without a snapshot after ensuring that the schema definition of the destination table is the same as the source table.

Also, why doesn't reinitializing the subscription with @upload_first = false not fix the problem?

Merge Replication W/ Dynamic Row Filter - Not 'dynamic' After First Initial Sync?

May 2, 2007

If anyone could confirm...

SQL Server 2000 SP4 to multiple SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition on PDAs. My DB on SQL2k is published with a single dynamic row filter using host_name() on my 'parent' table and also join filters from parent to child tables. The row filter uses joins to other tables elsewhere that are not published to evaluate what data is allowed through the filter.

E.g. Published parent table that contains suppliers names, etc. while child table is suppliers' products. The filter queries host_name(s) linked to suppliers in unpublished table elsewhere.

First initial sync with snapshot is correct and as I expected - PDA receives only the data from parent (and thus child tables) that matches the row filter for the host_name provided.

However - in my scenario host_name <--> suppliers may later be updated E.g. more suppliers assigned to a PDA for use or vice versa. But when I merge the mobile DB, the new data is not downloaded? Tried re-running snapshot, etc., no change.

Question: I thought the filters would remain dynamic and be applied on each sync?

I run a 'harmless' update on parent table using TSQL e.g. "update table set 'X' = 'X'" and re-sync. Now the new parent records are downloaded - but the child records are not!

Question: I wonder why if parent records are supplied, why not child records?

If I delete existing DB and sync new, I get the updated snapshot and all is well - until more data added back at server...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible (or not) to have dynamic filters run during second or subsequent merge?

If it's a number with a decimal in it (i.e 5.5) then this is show as a seperate result and not SUM'd with the others.

&<asp:SqlDataSource&> Need A Look Over To See If I Am Writing This Correctly.

Aug 31, 2006

This is a subset question of one of my other threads, the gist is while using forms authentication, I am trying to enter additional information into another table on the same db as the aspnet_membership tables.  I think I need an <asp:SqlDataSource> to do this because it is about the only thing left I haven't tried to get this code to work so any help is appreciated.  Environment: sql server 2000, windows server 2003, asp.net 2.0, vb, no GUI<ASP:SqlDataSource id="addedInfo" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:SqlServerConnection %>" InsertCommand="INSERT INTO addInfo(username, email, company, firstname, lastname, phone) VALUES (@username,@email,@company,@firstname,@lastname,@phone)" runat="server" />looking over some of my books and online it says in the connectionStrings that it is supposed to be the database name that goes next to the : but when I try that I get an error that it is looking for the name of the connection string, so I enter the name of the connection string (as above) and nothing happens, which is basically the ongoing event with this whole problem, the form fields (username, email, password) that go into the aspnet_membership tables just fine, I don't have any problems with those, it is getting the additional information into another table that has been stalling me the whole time.So does this sqldatasource look right?  Any help is appreciated.

When I select comma as delimiter, the columns will automatically

I tried using the following as delimiter → ","

but that'll strip the quotes which are required in this case.
Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this?

How To Install Sql Server Correctly?

Call me an idiot as I'm quite new to asp.net. I'm working through a
book called 'ASP.NET Unleashed' where the chapter on how to create a
database connection  to an sql database on MSDE called 'pubs' is
shown. Iv'e installed MSDE. When I try to run the example it says that
the login or authentication has failed. Iv'e tried different things but
I'm out of ideas. Another thing is that when I try to install sql
server 2000 on my Win XP it first says something about this being the
wrong OS or something like that. I can get past that but when I'm
presented with 3 installation options 1.client 2. client and
connectivity 3.connectivity I installed client because that's supposed
to create a stand alone installation.
However when I'm done installing the only new entry in the start->programs is
client connectivity. Where is the Enterprise services that I'm supposed
to be able to access according to the book? Is sql server 2000
compatible with XP and not just win 2000?

When I execute this query, it returns a list of id's, but they don't each have a unique issueID. In the data table, issueID can appear more than once (hence, I need to use distinct). However, id is the primary key, and is unique.

Relationships Correctly Designed?

Feb 26, 2008

I am new to SQL Server 2005. I have tried to be a good student and learn on my own about designing the database. However, I am facing a blockage of getting data into the database. I want to verify I have setup the relationships correctly. Here is the tables.

1. A Manufacture has an Address.
2. A Manufacturer has one or more Distribution Points.
3. A Distribution Point has an Address.

The Manufacturer --> Address is a one-to-one relationship.
The Distribution Point --> Address is a one-to-one relationship.
The Manufacturer --> Distribution Point is a one-to-many relationship.

The manufacturer table has a FK to the address id (PK).
The distribution table has a FK to the address id (PK).
The distribution table has a FK to the Manufacturer id (PK).
Address has several other FK, but not used in this scenario.

The INSERT and UPDATE Specification for the Delete Rule and Update Rule is set to "No Action" for the Manufacturer and Address tables. In the Distribution Point table, the relationship for the update rule involving the relationship with the Address and Manufacturer tables is set to CASCADE. What this tells me is SQL Server 2005 will update the table should changes occur in Address and Manufacturer table.

Is there anything else I can check to be sure the issue I am facing is NOT the deisgn of the database?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

How To Correctly Work With Two (or More) Databases?

Mar 14, 2006

Does anybody know how to work with two (or more) databases in SQL Server 2005; or where that information can be obtained? I searched online, in BOL and asked in this forum but with no success.

information in this posting does not work; results in invalid object name (source database) and/or database does not exist (destination database) errors:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=292125&SiteID=1

this post about the database does not exist has received no replies:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=295742&SiteID=1

Of course, both databases exist and their names are valid. Both can be accessed individually thru SSMS and a VB app I am coding. The problem is when trying to work with both of them.

Any information on the subject of working with multiple datatabases and/or links to said subject would be appreciated.
