Apr 27, 2007I have seen this before. A 2000 restore fails, leaving the database thinking it is being restored but the restore job failed and errors when it is restarted. EM is clueless. I believe there is a proc to reset some flag. Can you share it with me???

I scripted the replication module and droppedthe publication first. And I have tried dropping the replicationmodule again to see if it drops the views but it didn't.The replication fails with some wired error & complains about thisviews when I try to run the synch..I even tried running the sp_removedbreplication to drop thereplication module, but the views do not seem to disappear.My question is how do I remove these system views or how do I make thereplication work without using these views or create new views.. Restore Database Failed

I backed up a database to drive f:, then did restore and set options to move the .mdf and .ldf files to different HDs (f: for .mdf and d: for .ldf).
During restore I got a disk IO error. The restore terminated abnormally. Now I have no DB but the .mdf and the .ldf have been moved to the HDs that I specified in the restore options.
I cannot move the .bak file from the f: it gives me an IO error when I try this. It did allow me to copy the .mdf from f: to d:
I need to know how to recover the db frm the .mdf and .ldf files. I have tried using sp_attach_db and got the following error:
An error occurred while processing the log for database 'MyDB'
Please help.

Restore To A New Database Failed
Aug 1, 2007Hello, I have a database backup taken from SQL Server 2005. I originally had placed the backup into a file in My Documents, but when I went to locate the backup file there (C:/Documents and Settings...), the folders would not expand. So I moved the backup to the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBackup directory and was able to select the file there. When I try to restore this file into SQL Server 2005 Express using the Management Studio, I get the following error message:

Users And Logins Failed To Restore?

I just restored a database on a new server with a backup(complete backup stored in backup device) from another database on another server using the "with move" option. In fact here was my process:
Alter database ngauge SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
restore database ngauge
from disk = 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLBACKUPgauge1.BAK'
with move 'NGAUGE' to 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLDatagauge_Data.MDF',
move 'NGAUGE_Log' to 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLDatagauge_Log.LDF'
Alter database ngauge SET READ_WRITE
it worked.
But it did not move the 98 or so users/logins...from the source database
what is going on??? what am I doing wrong??!!

I am trying to restore a production copy. I have only the .bak file with me. While restoring, i m facing the following error. can u please help me... thanks in advance.
"MODIFY FILE encountered operating system error 112(There is not enough space on the disk.) while attempting to expand the physical file."
I have placed the data files(52GB) in D: drive(140GB free space) and transaction log file(100GB) in F: drive(465GB free space). Still i am facing this error...

Failed Restore And Server Restart
Jun 6, 2008We were trying to restore our production server db backup in test server over LAN (due to space shortage on test server) . Test server hanged and did not respond for abt more than 15 hours (backup file 40 GB ) . The we restarted the server (resetting the power button) . Now it's showing the status 'Restoring' . According to me it's not doing anything (as seen in task manager workload ) . So how can I go ahead with checking the db .
Due to 'restoring' status I get following error

Restore Failed In Logshipping Process

I created log shipping btw two servers using maintenance plan.
maintainanace plan taking the log backups and copying those backups in the standby server but unable to restore thos log backups
i am getting the following error ( for the Log Restore job)

In the logshipping monitor history i found the follwing error

Restore Database April CTP 2005 Failed?
Jul 23, 2005The following failed in EM (or whatever it is called now managementstudio I think) and I scripted it out and ran it in a query window toget more info. This works fine in SQL 2000 but not in 2005. I also triedto 'create' the database first then ran this command below but with the'force restore over existing database' checked on but this failed alsowhich is odd as well. Any ideas. I'm trying to restore my DB to a new server and also a new instance of SQL 2005 SP2+ hotfix KB934458.
I've successfully restored my MSDB database and everything seems to be working fine, but now when I'm trying to do a restore of my Database RMc to the attached SAN,
I'm getting the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The path 'H:' has invalid attributes. It needs to be a directory. It must not be hidden, read-only, or on a removable drive. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
the H: is the Drive letter for my attached SAN.
The path I'm trying to give is H:\DBData for the MDF-file and the H:DBLog for the LDF-file.
I have the DB running on another server also with a SAN attached and there are no problems.
I also moved the MSDB to another drive on the SAN - a G-drive without any problems.
Is there someone who have a good idea?

May 22, 2007I am moving my data base from one computer to a new one. I placed the .bak file in the backup folder on the new computer (Windows Vista). I keep getting these errors I have checked the security settings and my user account has full privledges. I added my windows login to the SQL Administrators as well.

Each one has 110GB after backup compression.I tried to restore these files to standby server via 100MbE network but it always failed. My colleague told me this never happen before and I said yes because I have done this before a lot of times when backup devices are significantly smaller.He said the only way is to copy backup files locally and restore locally. Microsoft Clustering Service Failed To Restore Registry Key For Resource SQL Server
Sep 27, 2004I got this system error log in the event viewer every time I start the SQL Server cluster resource:
The Microsoft Clustering Service failed restore a registry key for resource SQL Server when it was brought online. This error code was 2. Some changes may be lost.
Even though the SQL seems to be working fine now, I won't know if something drastic will happen later. :confused:
Searching the Internet for resolution, I saw this article. The Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 307469 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=307469) requires using the Windows Server 2003 ClusterRecover utility to reset the server cluster check points.
I've not tried it because I don't know if this is the correct solution or if it will work or not.
Can I even solve the error without using the above utility? I also cannot afford to reinstall the clustering or SQL server. :mad:

Aug 5, 2015SQL Transaction replication, specifically SQL backup and restore Transaction replication. So Scenario,
S1 = Primary Server 1
R1 = T - Replication Server 1
R2 = T - Replication Server 2
So we have S1 replicating to R1, and we want to build another subscriber which is R2.
Can I take the Replicated Database from R1, backup it up, then restore it to R2, and create the publication/subscription?
Will that work? if not, is there an easier way to avoid the snapshot? the reason i ask this is because we do have replication snapshot, but takes long. One of my Colleagues stated he tried this, however replication made duplicate rows on R2, which is why he had to use replication snapshot.
Restore Data But Maintain Replication Settings?
Jun 17, 2008We are setting up the clients' database with transactional replication that allows the subscriber to send updates by pull subscriptions.
The plan is to create a second database so the users can keep working on the original database while we get the replication set up and working. Once we feel confident that the replication is working on the second database, the plan was to backup the old one, then detach it, and then restore the new database with the latest data from the old one. My question is whether this would preserve all the replication configurations that we set up? Since the replication adds a column to each table what would happen to that column? Or what is an alternative, which would allow us to set up the replication without disturbing the user's work, and then implement the replication with the latest data?
I am also wondering how to set the synchronization to happen once daily? I do not see where I can set that. I only see options for continuous vs on demand. Does on demand mean I can somehow schedule with an external program to run once a day?

Replication - Login Failed
Nov 10, 1999Now, I am getting closer and receiving the following message in the Distribution Task (repl_subcriber is the owner, AutoStart is the Frequency):
"37000[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed - User: Reason: Not Associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."
I have 'sqlexecutivent' and 'pswd' defined on the CA (Publisher) and VA (Subscriber) Servers. I have 'sqlexecutivent' defined in the NT Administrator group on both machines. I have trusted the NT Administrator group to SQL Server on both machines (xp_grantlogin 'administrator', 'admin'). I have trusted the NT 'sqlexecutivent' login to SQL Server on both machines (xp_grantlogin 'sqlexecutivent', 'admin'). I have logged-in to both NT machines using the 'sqlexecutivent' login and 'pswd'. I have started the MSSQLServer Service and SQLExecutive Service using 'sqlexecutivent' and 'pswd'. When I set up the Topology, Publication, and Subscription I was registerred in SEM as 'sa'. I do not know if this is needed, but in SQL Server I also created 'sqlexecutive' logins and 'sqlexecutive' database users on both machines.
Please tell me what I am missing. Do I need to do anything with the repl_subscriber and repl_publisher login ids? Do I need to configure a DSN? Do I need to check anything in the registry? Maybe I need to just start over again with a fresh start by uninstalling the Replication Topology, Publishing, etc. Maybe I should try Multi-Protocol.
Again, these are two NT 4.0, SP3 machines running SQL Server 6.5 SP5a. They are set up in the same Workgroup. I can connect to both machines in SEM and by Mapping a Network Drive. The default netlibrary is set to named pipes.
As part of my appreciation for your efforts, I will document this process and mail it to you once it is working.

SQL 6.5 Replication - Login Failed
Oct 18, 1999I have been attempting to set up replication between two 6.5 servers in the same domain, and all I get is a login failed error on my replication task. Both servers use standard security and an admin login for the server and exec service, and I am using the default remote server setup as installed with replication. I'm sure it will be something simple, but I can't see it.

I've 3 pc that have MS SQL 2000 database installed in it and connected to main server through merge replication.
At first it run fine all the time. But now, it doesn't. It's happen when the pc have to restart every night. When i come to the office and check resplication status it return failed. I try to manually start synchronize but it failed too. I've to restart the pc all over again untill it ok.
I hope some body out there can explain something to me and how to overcome the problem...
