Replication From Machine Not In Domain To Machine In A Domain
Jul 11, 2007
Hi
I'm trying to set up replication from one SQL server to another.
The publishing server is not a member of a domain and is located in a hosting center (but we have full control over the server). I can set up a Snapshot publication just fine.
The subscribing server is located in another remote location and is a member of a domain. Here I can also set up the subscription without errors.
The errors, I think, comes when the snapshot is about to be created, the error is, on the publisher server:
[298] SQLServer Error: 18456, Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. [SQLSTATE 28000]
And the snapshot is not created.
Is it even possible to set up replication like this. I need to transfer the data from one sql server to another so we have a working "backup" so to speek if the other server does not respond.
Hullo all I have two machines, One is a standalone machine and the other is on a domain network. How can I run a stored procedure/job on the standalone machine from the domain machine ? running the procedure as a Domain user results in a failed job/stored proc. also creating an sql login and attempting to run it as that user also fails. How can I solve this problem ? please e-mail me at wayde@sunnygrp.com if you have any thoughts...
For some reason , the report server is trying to login as <domainname><machine name> - its supposed to be <domain><user name> or ASPNET or Network Service Authority - I have no clue why it is pickin gup machine name. Any ideas and how to fix?
I have read the posts concerning login failures for the ASPNET user. I have a slightly different problem, as you can see from the title of this post.
My environment is a private domain that has two machines:
1) Windows 2000 server on which SQL Server is running. Let's call it FOO_SERVER.
2) Windows XP Professional on which I am running my IIS and .NET development environment. Let's call it FOO_WORK.
3) Let's call the domain, FOO_DOMAIN.
The user, ASPNET, is not a domain user, but a local user, so I do not know how to establish it as a valid login for SQL Server. But this is beside the point, anyway, as the error I am getting has nothing to do with the ASPNET user. It appears that a different username is being used to access SQL Server.
Hello everybody..Is there a way to fix the SQL Server 2000 installation when the Server afterthe server has been disjoined form its old domain and added to a new domainwith a different computer name too?Sounds like a joke, but stuff happens.TIA-arifi
How do I check whether the Sql Server is installed in the particular machine in a network within the same domain? Suppose If i got a machine name as c-4200 in a network I need to display the all the database instances it has How do i do that?
We recently upgraded to SQL 2005 from SQL 2000. We have most of our issues ironed out however about every 1 minute there is a message in the Application Event log and the SQL log that states:
EVENT ID 18456 Login Failed for the users DOMAIN/ACCOUNT [CLIENT: <local machine>]
This is a state 16 message which I thought meant that the account does not have access to the default database. The account is actually the account that the SQL services run under.
Any ideas? We can't seem to figure this one out. We actually upgraded to 2005 from 2000 and had an error appear after every reboot that prevented the SQL Agent from running(This application has failed to start because GAPI32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.) We did a full uninstall of SQL and reinstalled fresh and restored the databases from .bak files and that is when the EVENT ID 18546 started occuring every minute.
We don't have any SQL heavy hitters here so please be detailed with any possible solutions. That you very much for any help you can provide!
-A "master domain" AD, a "sub domain" AD, a trust relationship between the two (sub trust master) -A sql server 2005 on a win server 2003 in "sub domain" AD -A linked server to "sub domain" AD -A linked server login using a "sub domain" admin acccount -A view to this linked server -A grant on masterDomain/Domain Users to the database -A grant on subDomain/Domain Users to the database -We want all connections done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".
Queries on the view work fine using "sub domain" user accounts. Queries on the view fail using "master domain" user accounts (including master domain admin accounts)
"Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI" reported an error. The provider indicates that the user did not have the permission to perform the operation."
All connections are done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".
Can we establish cross domain connectivity with "Windows Authentication" ?
Below are details of the implementation:
SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT * FROM OPENQUERY(ADSI, 'SELECT displayname, givenName, sn, cn (etc...) FROM ''LDAP://OU=PEOPLE,DC=subDomain,DC=com'' WHERE objectCategory = ''Person'' AND objectClass = ''user'' ')
In SQL Server Mngt Studio in Server Objects/Linked Servers/Providers/ ADSI properties security tab I have:
"connections will: <be made using this security context> Remote login:'subDomainAdminAccnt' With password: 'subDomainAdminAccntPassword'
Error: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI" reported an error. The provider indicates that the user did not have the permission to perform the operation.
Msg 7320, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot execute the query "SELECT displayname, givenName, sn, cn
FROM 'LDAP://OU=PEOPLE,DC=subDomain,DC=com'
WHERE
objectCategory = 'Person'
AND objectClass = 'user'
" against OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI".
After using ADMT to migrate the domain user or group into the root domain, when I use enterprise manager to try and change the permissions allocated to that domain user/group, i get the 'Error 15401 NT user or Group not found'.
This is a correct error as the user is now in the root domain, however sql (in sysxlogins) still thinks its in the child domain.
Is there a simpler way, other than collecting the users permissions, deleting the user from SQL then adding back in with the correct domainusername format, then adding the permissions back?
I tried renaming the 'name' in sysxlogins (not recommended) and while that worked, whenever I tried to add the migrated user to another database, the login name was missing and would not resolve.
I believe it is something to do with the SID not matching.
we recently migrated from our in-house domain to the Enterprise domain. Everything went smooth except for the fact that I can no longer accept my dBs using my SA or my domain admin account. There is only 1 account I can get into the management studio with but it has no admin privileges, so I can't make any password changes or add accounts. I don't have a test environment so kind of hesitant to experiment with our production system.
Help! I am using Script Transformation to output a new column as image[DT_IMAGE] field to store serialized object. In the VB script, the sample code as
The package always runs fine on my developing machine and will halt on other machine at AddBlobData after certain number row records were processed. I am stuck here. Anyone has any suggestion?
What I need is reading data from mutiple tables in one database and writing into a single table in another datable. In order preserve all the columns data, I use input column fields to construct a new object and then serialize it, and store the serialize data into detination db table. (The object and serialization function is coming from c# dll.)
Dim b As BusinessLicense = New BusinessLicense() b.ApprovalDate = Row.approvaldate b.BusinessId = Row.busid b.BusinessName = Row.busname b.NaicsCode = Row.naicscode b.NaicsDescription = Row.naicsdescr b.OwnerName = Row.ownername b.Phone = Row.phone b.Pkey = Row.pkey b.RenewalDate = Row.renewaldate b.StartDate = Row.startdate b.Suite = Row.suite
Row.serializedobject.AddBlobData(Serializer.Serialize(b)) '''----This is blocking line Row.infoType = BusinessLicense.TYPE
Both machine is xp with sp2. and standard SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06
Hi to everyone, I'm facing a problem that drives me crazy. I've a web application that has the following problem. When I test the application on my developement machine all runs fine, but when I put into production server there is a problem in connection pooling. Look at the following image, the blue line is the number of connection in the pool and the violet line is the number of connection reclaimed. From the image it is clear that connection are returned on the pool only in block, maybe when the garbage collection pass and reclaim the object. The strange thing is that on my developement machine all is good, and also I'm using Enterprise Library and the connection are managed internally.- Thanks to everyone for any help.
Hi All;We are going to change our application server. We will copy all of ourDatabase from Mic 2000 Server OS to Mic 2003 Server OS. I found anarticle that how to move all the folders from same OS. My question isthat Would the 2003 OS be a problem when we copy all of the MC SQL 2000folders to New OS ? Has anybody done this before? Could you gimme yoursuggestions please?ThanksASA
I'm trying to run a test from my test environment which is a non-domain Windows 2000 server to access my domain 2003 with SQL2005. I have install 2005 tools to try to access the SQL server.
- I have try following the KB265808 - no success. - Reading alot of blogs and it seems all are pointing to the same problem. "Remote access" but the settign is enabled.Error Message:
TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=53&LinkId=20476
Question: Could Windows 2003 security be blocking access? I'm using sa account to access.
Also, sa account does not seems to work for remote access. It is ok when accessing locally.
If I use GetDate() function from client machine (using "\ServerMachineSQLExpress" instance from client machine "ClientMachine"), then from where I will get the DateTime value ?
I was wondering if there was any white papers on the migration part from microsoft? Apparently the situation is like this Currently installed MOSS 2007 in a testing pc as application server. This application server will refer another testing database server which running SQL Server 2005.
Now, wanted to move this 2 temporary server into another 2 new servers. Correct me if I'm wrong, it cannot be done by using image like Norton Ghost due to difference hardware spec.
So, if I install another fresh copy of MOSS2007 & SQL server 2005 in that 2 new servers, how can I migrate the contents, documents, etc from the testing database server?
It would be great if someone can show me the links to kb article. Thanks
I have 2 Sql Servers each in different NT domain. There is no NT trust relationship established. On weekly basis I need to send data From 1st Server to a2nd server. What are my options. Can I use replication ?
I built SP's to create the Distributor/Publisher and Subscriber parts of Snapshot Replication. All run fine on 2 SQL2K installs on the SAME Domain.
BUT if I try to cross to another Domain (SQL2K as well) = NO JOY.
Error @ Subscriber doing a PULL: "Cannot connect to Distributor..."
Tried using sa, administrator, NEW Local user, etc. & continue getting the error. ALSO tried changing the Login of SQL & SQL Agent Services to the SAME Login on BOTH machines.
1. Two trusted domains(Domain 1 and Domain 2) connected through 128kbps intranet in two different buildings. 2. A Computer(Machine 1) running SQL server 2000 connected with Domain 1. 3. An application which connects to sql server and with its related database on Machine 1. 4. I want to replicate data onto a computer (Machine 2) on Domain 2.so that users of domain 1 and domain 2 can have a synchronize database. And whenever they visit each other in different building they have their data availabe to them.
I have two servers that are setup to use their local system account. They are in the same workgroup, but aren't on a domain. Is there a way to setup replication without a domain? If so, how?
I currently have replication (transactional) set up within my domain successfully using 2000 and 2005. I need to start replicating to a hosting center for a web app from my server out on the DMZ. I can use SSIS and SMS to connect, update data, etc. but when I try to replicate out there it gives me the following errors:
1. Tells me it needs a named instance so I give it the hosted server name : ABC123
2. Then I get the following:
TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------
Failed to connect to server ABC123. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
------------------------------
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)
I am trying to set up Web Synchronization using Merge Replication. The Distributor and Publisher are on the same machine. Subscriber is a windows mobile application which syncs the data using web synchronization. I have configured IIS on web server for the sync. However there is no domain user on database and web server. Is it possible set up web sync without a domain user? Which user can I then use to give permissions on the snapshot share folder.
Hi all,it happen to me a strange problem:i have a mdb file (in Access 2K) with SQL Server 2K linked tables whoruns on a workstation which is on a different domain that the SQLServer. It works. If i create a mdb file from a workstation which is a the domain of theSQL Server and then i run it a my non-domain workstation i have errormessage:Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trustedSQL Server connectionBut if i reattached my tables it works. If someone have an idea....PS: same ODBC on both machines
What I would like to do is set up transactional replication from server1 (Publisher) to server2 (Subscriber), with server2 acting as the (Distributor).
I am successful on server2 in allowing server2 as a distributor for server1. When I try to configure replication on server1 to use server2 as a distributor and subscriber I get this message once
" SQL Server Enterprise Manager could not enable 'server2' as a Subscriber.
Error 14071: Could not find the Distributor or the distribution database fom the local server. The Distributor may not be installed, or the local server may not be configured as a Publisher at the Distributor. "
and this mesage for each database I enable for subscription, I get this message.
" SQL Server Enterprise Manager could not enable database 'x' for snapshot or transactional replications.
Error 20028: The Distributor has not been correctly installed. Could not enable database for publishing. The replication 'publish' of database 'x' has been set to false. "
The last message I get is
" SQL Server Enterprise Manager successfully enabled 'server2' as the Distributor for 'server1'. "
This message is apparently false.
When I try to Configure Publishing, Subscribers and Distributing... on server1, I get the message
" SQL Server Enterprise Manager could not retrieve information about the Distributor or the distribution database. "
In an attempt to fix this I: 1. disable publishing on server1, 2. disable publising and distribution on server2. 3. enable publishing and distribution on server2. 4. enable publishing on server1 using server2 as distributor.
Again I get errors on step 4.
I have even tried re-installing SQL Server 2000 on server2 with no improvement.
Can some one please shed some light on this problem?
When i try to debug the northwindoledb example with VS2005 i get the foolwing error message.
Is there a way to configure the solution to run witn WM5 emulator.

Can we have Reporting Services having its database on a server and distribution server (http://IISserver/Reports) on another server? We dont want our database server to have IIS and dont want SqlServer installed on our IIS server kind regards
Guys, I have problem in adding the user. The domain name "scs" that I am logged on a machine with user name "rao", But I am not able this user to SQL Server as scs/rao, it gives that the not found.
