Hi,
I am doing a repl.in SQL7/NT.
At time of 'Push Subscription wizard' - I used the option "Yes,Initialize the schema and data......" whereas I already had data and schema at the subscriber.
Now my question is what will happen now and how long will this process take(for approx5GB of DAta).
OR should I stop the process - it's already an hour when I started the process.
Any suggestion appreciated.
I have a snapshot & a transcation publication on Server A, and a pull subscription for each on Server B.
The distribution agent on ServerA has the error:
"The subscription(s) have been marked inactive and must be reinitialized. NoSync subscriptions will need to be dropped and recreated."
Any idea what caused this ..... Everything was fine for a week or so.
Does anyone know of any good books or publications on Replication ? I've got some DBA books that cover the basics, but I'd like something that helps explain the oddball situations.

Trying to set up Merge Replication using FTP with PULL subscriptions on sql 2000
Are there any issues that anyone is aware of that may affect this working.
Does anyone have advice as choosing between merge replication and updatable subscriptions? I've read the documentaion, they seem to offer the same functionality, and I don't see any clear guidelines as to why to pick one over the other...any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have setup a pull subscription on the subscriber for transactional replication. The distribution job continues to run, but doesn't do anything because it says: The initial snapshot for publication 'man4' is not yet available.
How can I tell if the snapshot is running, and can I see the snapshot where it was created?
Hi all,
I am planning replication around a large SQL Database Server; 3 databases need to be replicated for reporting purposes.
My plan was to use Transaction Replication, as the Reporting database will be mostly read-only. However, we must add a whole bunch of additional, historical data to some of the tables of the reporting database that does not exist in the Publisher. I understand that changes can be made to subscriptions in Transaction Replication scenarios, ideally when the changes are few and far between. (Merge replication is excessive for our purposes.)
I don't want the additional historical data to be propagated back to the publisher. Is it possible that data is written to a subscriber in a Transactional Replication scenario without writing these updates to the Publisher? Given the nature of the data, there will not be conflicts between the historical data and the new changes applied from the publisher.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Faraz
I have created a Merge Subscription between two databases. I have set the security setting in the UNC folder of the publisher to allow 'Full Control' for 'Everyone'.
I have done various searches, google, here, etc. But cant seem to find much information to help me out.
When I create the subscription it says it was a success, but when I launch the replication monitor and click the publication it says its subscribers are uninitialized.
Can anyone help?
Cheers
Hi guys,
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat's the relationship among replication, publication and subscription?
I want to create replication database, what things should I know first?
I made a DDL change to a published table. To do this, I had to remove the table from the article, modify two field sizes, save the table, and then add the table back to the publication. I did have to rerun the snapshot agent after this even though the new article is exactly the same (yes, I understand all rowguids are dropped and recreated).
So, at the subscription, I begin synchronization and it replicates every article, thus doubling the size of the subscription .sdf file. yes, it can be compacted and it cuts it back in half.
Question is how to prevent this behavior? Is it possible to create the rowguid before publishing the table/article and that way even if you go back and make a schema change that requires republishing you can avoid the nasty behavior of producing a new snapshot and and a doubling of subscription database size?
This particular merge publication is read-only. Every article is marked as 'download only.'
Ideally if schema change is needed to one table, I only want that table/article to require reinitialization.
Actually, if its a simple change like expanding a varchar by some chars I'd like to not have to republish the article at all.
keep dreaming?
Hi all,
I've been looking for the right stored procedure to create a push subscription for publication but i haven't had much luck so far. So I was wondering if you guys know which SP is appropriate, that'd be super great!! thanks guys!
note. the sp should run on the subscriber database.
thanks again
Hi There,
I wonder if anyone has run into this problem before.
I have inherited a SQL Server 2000 box with what appears to be a push subscription set up on it. However, the original Subscription database has long since been removed, leaving that box with what is essentially an orphaned push subscription.
We are trying to remove the subscription, but do not understand how. All documentation I have found keeps insisting that this be done at the subscriber database (which is for all effective purposes, destroyed).
How do I get rid of it?
Any ideas would be dearly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi,
We are Using Transactional Replication with Updatable Subscription in SQL Server 2005 SP1.
Subscription Type : Pull Subscription
Mode : Continuous Running Mode
Conflict Resolution Policy : Publisher Wins.
I have a table "Sample" (which is part of replication) and it has got 3 triggers. All the triggers are set NOT FOR REPLICATION.
The first trigger Updates a column of the "Sample" table in which i inserted a record.
The second trigger inserts record in to another database table and also updates a column of the table "Sample".
The third trigger does not affect any tables, it is written for some manipulations with variables.
In this scenario when I insert a record in the Sample table of the subscription database, that record is visible in the table. But during replication, it shows conflict in the Conflict Viewer and removes the record from the Sample table of the subscription database. The record is not replicated to the publisher and the other Subscriber also.
But when I comment any one update in either the first or second trigger, the insert works fine without any conflict.
Is there any issue with firing two triggers in replication which is updating the same table? I also suspect the Order of Commands moving to the Publisher from the MSReplication_Queue table, becoz the conflict viewer shows the subscriber as the Conflict loser.
Is there any issue with msrepl_tran_version, Since the conflict is decided based on this id??
It would be helpful if u could reply soon.
Thanks and Regards,
Swapna.B.
Hi all,
I'm a rather newbie, not only to this forum but also to sql server having a question to the following issue:
Is it possible to drop/remove/delete the "orphan" of a merge subscription on one instance of sql server without having the (former) distributor/publisher (on other instance) available?
The background is: I had a small replication infrastructure with two instances (on two machines), one the publisher and distributor, the other the subscriber. Now it happened that the publisher/distributor machine was completely set up new without having the replication dropped in advance, what remained on the subscriber is now a database with all the merge/replication tables and the guid columns in the user tables.
Moreover this, an entry remained in the subscription saying that a subscription with the former publisher exists...
Can I remove these "orphans" without having to setup the instance again?
Thank you,
Andy
I'm trying out a set up as following:
SQL Server 2008 standard as the publisher
SQL Server 2012 express as the subscriber
and I tend to use web synchronization; there is no domain trust.
After following the instructions at MSDN for configuring web synchronization, I have an error that I can't get past - after creating the initial snapshot on the publisher, I try to run replmerg.exe at the subscriber and I always get this error:
"The subscription to publication 'TestReplication' has expired or does not exist."
If I refresh the publisher's "Local Publications" and look within the "TestReplication", it does show that the subscriber is a known subscriber. Likewise, if I refresh subscriber's "Local Subscription", it has an entry for TestReplication publication.
I already verified that the user used by Replisapi.dll has the read permission to the snapshot folder, is a member of PAL, is db_owner of the publishing database and distribution database. I am using self-signed certificate for this test and I have already installed the certificate at the subscriber machine so that HTTPS is trusted. I can run diagnosis from subscriber so I know subscriber can reach and logs are being left at the publisher's IIS.
Hi I want to Set up Such Merge Replication, Which can can Synchronize With out Network, Means Syncronization using CD.
Also When the Network connectivity will be available then it should do synchronization
I wants to transfer some file using CD only those changes to database which hasn't been synchronized, thats why Backup will not work.
Pls Help me, or tell me wether it is possible or not.
Tell me some work around, or ask me details,
You got to help me out, Otherwise I will loss trust in MSDN Forums.
Thanks in advance

This is strange.
We use Merge (pull) replication to get data from the "mother ship" updated to the laptops of 15 sales reps before they head out into the field, where they work disconnected. At end of day, they all reconnect and all the data is once again shared.
We've been having problems with the replication, but that's another topic.
This morning, I logged onto the server to check the replication monitor, and found that all of the subscriber names for that particular subscription are blank! They show the open/close bracket ( [] ) followed by the database name. This is under the My Publishers >> [server name] >> [publication name] node in the explorer tree. If I try to double-click on one of the subscribers to get their detail, I get tne message, "Replication Monitor could not open the Detail Window." and "Specified cast is not valid".
If I look at the publication in SQL Server Management Studio, all of the subscriber names show up just fine. But they do NOT show up under Replication Monitor.
No one touched the database over the weekend, and this was working just fine on Friday afternoon.
Has anyone seen this before? What to do?
I am using SQL 2000. How can I get my transactional replication reinitialized after it has failed with several attempts.
I know one way of doing it through enterprise manager and specifying the subscription to reinitialize. But this will apply the snapshot and will take long time.
Is there a fast way of doing it?

Hi
We have setup transactional replication between 2 databases on SQL Server 2000 SP3a (~70GB), using a concurrent snapshot (to prevent locking out of the live database) to initilaise the data and a pull subscription from the second database.
From analysing the msdistribution_history table in the distribution database on the subscriber it appears that the snapshot is being applied in a continuous loop to the subscriber database. Viewing the comments column in the msdistribution_history table we can see the following sequence of events occuring
Initialising
Applied script 'snapshot.pre'
Then it applies all the schema files .sch
Then it applies all the index files .idx
The it bulk copies the data in (bcp)
Then it creates the Primary Keys
Then it applies all the trigger files .trg
Then it applies all the referential integrity files .dri
These all complete successfully but then the process kicks off again immediately after reapplying the snapshot. We are unaware of any settings that may be causing this.
Any help on what maybe causing this would be much appreciated.

It seems to me that if a scheduled SSRS report subscription fails ( Status Message - An error has occurred during report processing) , that I actually need to delete the subscription and reconfigure it from scratch. The scheduled job doesn't try to run again automatically (say the next Monday on a weekly Monday schedule).
Is there a way to "reset" a failed subscription without have to recreate the entire subscription?
Thank you

Existing subscription already contains table included in the new subscription.
What are the possible causes of this merge replication error?
Could it be caused by a SQL Server Compact Edition User trying to sync their .sdf file after their subscription has already expired on the SQL Server?
Would you expect to see a different message if a SQL Server Compact Edition user tried to sync a subscriber database (.sdf file) with merge replication if it's been longer than the subscription retention period since their last sync?
Ok, to start, i have read SO many posts on this site, and othe sites, and i cannot get this to work.
What i want to do is:
1. Login
2. show an image from a SQL database, based on that login.
I have the image path stored in the database, and i can easily get it
to display on the screen, but it doesnt show the correct image for the
login, it shows them all. (all images based on that column).
I know i have to put a WHERE at the end of my SELECT statement, but everything i have tried doesnt work.
When i do the query builder, and i put in the value, it shows exactly what i want, based on the login's username.
I know i am close, i just can't finish it.
Please help.
Thanks
Ok so every week I have to download a file containing in excess of 40000 products. I then have to change the category ids to suit my system. Is there a script or something that I could create so I just run it each week to do a search and replace and then loop until all category ids have been changed.
Table = ecommstore
Column = section
I would need to change say from 84 to 1 then 86 to 2, 87 to 3 etc etc
I have had an unusual request and I thought to ask youreal smart folks out there for a hand.
I am working with a non microsoft application that writes links to an html file. I need to extrapolate the link and pull it into a database table on our MS-SQL 2005 server.
I believe that this woould best be done with a stored procedure.
I guess that I will get the files and save them on a given directory on the W2K3 Enterprise server and run the proceedure there.
All comments are welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Gene
Good Morning,
I'm not quite sure this is the right place to post this, but i'll try anyway.
I have a website where I allow people to create their own layouts in HTML, and in the HTML I have them placeing markers (eg. |1| ) where they would like to place something from a database. All the HTML is stored in a SQL Server DB, and when I pull it out, it's fine, except it won't allow me to Replace any of the markers with values from the DB.
Here's and example line of HTML that's held in the DB:<table width='50%' border='1'><tr><td>|0|</td><td>|1|</td></tr>
and when I do a strHtml.Replace("|0|", dReader["somefield"].ToString()) or even just a strHtml.Replace("|0|", "Test") it never changes it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
