Replication To Oracle HELP!!!
Oct 13, 1999
I am trying to replicate several tables to Oracle using Sql7.0. It has been working fine from 6.5. Here's the problem. My column datatypes are changing from varchar to char when the distribution task is run. When I read the scripts generated by the snapshot agent it is creating tables that have the varchar datatype. Why is it creating char's in my oracle database? Is this a 7.0 issue or a ODBC problem? I can't seem to find any information on this problem.
Thanks

I currently have replication setup from a MSSQL2k machine to Oracle 8.1.5 and while the replication works, it times out every time there is a hiccup in the network. It acts as if it won't retry like it does from MSSQL2k to MSSQL2k. I'm using Microsoft ODBC for Oracle for my connection. Any ideas?

I'm a consultant, and have been brought into the middle of a replication project. The client is looking to replicate the database from Oracle to SQL 2005. I had the replication working last week, but then problems (I don't know the cause, wasn't on site). But I tried reinitializing the subscription, and the SQL Log Reader Agent status simply sticks at status=Initializing for about 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, it comes up with the message:Batch processing is in progress. The current batch consists of 205065 commands and 0 transactions. The last transaction was 0x0000000000000000000c, '0x0000000000000000000c'.And the commands continue to increase at the rate of a couple thousand a minute. The distribution Agent isn't running, and I haven't created a snapshot. I do believe there were problems with disk space on both the Oracle and the SQL Server, but those have been taken care of. And the target database is only used for OLAP (at this point). I've run the Dist Cleanup Job, removed the Subscription and rebuilt it. To no avail. Unfortunately, I don't have a great access on the Oracle side of it. Thoughts? Bob

I have one Oracle Server (Version 10g) with some simple tables which should be replicated to an SQL 2005 Enterprise Server.
i got this error:

i set the publisher to drop the table and create a new one when i reinitialize with a new snapshot. it only works when i remove the unique key constraint. but after that the data in the replicated table has wrong entries. a select count ... will show the exacly same number as an select count ... on the original table direktly on the oracle server. i reinitialzied the replication multiple times with new snapshots. but the problem does not resolve. first i got a unique key constraint. then i typed truncate table ..., after that i removed the the unique constraint and than all data will be imported but there are some entries that are not existing in oracle.
my server is patched with the newest updates for sql 2005 (Version 9.0.3159).
for exempla the following statement will show the same results on oracle and sql 2005:

Hi,
I'd appreciate any help i can get here. I'm working with an MS SQL Server 2005 SP2 db on a Windows 2003 OS. I set up replication from an Oracle 10g instance a few months ago, and everything was working until i installed SP2 for SQL Server.

I can get snapshot replication to work just fine, but transactional replication throws up the error above.
Anyone with any ideas on how i can proceed?
Thanks in advance!

Although clearly specified in the replication notes for SQL server 2005. I am wondering whether I still have some options for replication using the Standard Edition of SQL 2005. I see that subscriptions and publications are still a part of the menu. Am I still able to set up an oracle 8< database as a publisher which SQL can subscribe to???
My experience so far...I can access Local Subscriptions from the replications menu. There I can attempt to find a publisher, an oracle publisher is given as an option. The message I get is as follows:
"To find an Oracle Publisher, you must first connect to the SQL Server Distributor that has been configured to work with that Publisher. In the following dialog box, specify the name and login for the Distributor."
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We are going away from a 2003 Windows Server OS with SQL Server 2008 R2 to a 2012 Windows Server with 2012 SQL Server. Both the distributor and subscriber resides on 2003 Windows Server and the focus will be to migrate those databases to the 2012 SQL Server.
We would also like to avoid sending down a new snapshot due to logic in the replication process (major headache to clean up data). what's the best approach in moving the distributor and subscriber databases without having to run a snapshot?
In theory and needs testing:
1. Work with business users to get downtime
2. Stop sql apply so no new changes are going to the Oracle publisher database
3. Remove subscription, publication and distributor from current replication
4. Oracle DBA to clear out replication related objects - fresh clean slate
5. Use log shipping to apply last t-log and restore db with Keep_Replication
6. Set up new distribution, publication (keep existing object unchanged), and subscriber (without initialization) Will this work?

I have an issue using parameterised reports connecting to Oracle using "ODBC" and "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" using parameteried reports. The following error is generated "ORA-01008 not all variables bound (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle)" and a similiar one for ODBC. It works fine for simple reports. Do these 2 drivers have issues passing parameters for a remote Oracle query?
Thanks.

Hi!
I'm loading from Oracle using the OraOLEDB.Oracle.1 provider since I need unicode support and I get the following error:
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio

For most of my queries to Oracle I can cast the columns to get rid of the error (CAST x AS DECIMAL(10) etc), but this does not work for:
1) Union
I have a select like "SELECT NVL(myColumn, 0) .... FROM myTable UNION SELECT 0 AS myColumn, .... FROM DUAL"
Even if I cast the columns in both selects (SELECT CAST(NVL(myColumn, 0) AS DECIMAL(10, 0) .... UNION SELECT CAST(0 AS DECIMAL(10, 0)) AS myColumn, .... FROM DUAL) I still get the error above.
2) SQL command from variable
The select basically looks like this:
"SELECT Column1, Column2, ... FROM myTable WHERE Updated BETWEEN User::LastLoad AND User::CurrentLoad"
Again, even if I cast all columns (like in the union), I still get the same error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,
On my dev server I have working ssis packages that use connections Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle MSDAORA.1 and Oracle provider for oledb and OracleClient data provider.
I use one or the other according to my needs.
In anticipation and to prepare for the build of a new production server, I have build a test server from scratch and deployed to it the entire dev.
Almost everything works except Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle.
ssis packages on the test machine will return an error
Error at Pull Calendar from One [OLE DB Source [1]]: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "one.oledb" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
Error at Pull Calendar from One [DTS.Pipeline]: component "OLE DB Source" (1) failed validation and returned error code 0xC020801C.

An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle.".
I have used the same installers for OS, SQL and Oracle SQL*Net on both dev and test machines. The install and then the restore/deployment on Test went fine.
Does anyone could point me to the right direction to solve this issue?
Thanks,

Hi Everyone,
I've been searching for a solution for this for a week-ish, so I thought I would post my quesiton directly. Here is my scenario..
Source: MS SQL Server
Destination: Oracle 10g
The destination table has a partition set on a column called "DATE_HIGH". How do I populate this date high column in my package? Currently I just have a source object, and a destination object, but I'm unclear how to populate this field in the destination. I've read one blog that states "use OLE DB Command" - but that isn't enough information for me to implement - Can someone be more specific in these steps? Here is an example of what my newb-ness needs to understand
OLE DB Source (Select * from Table) ---> OLE DB Command (What query goes here?) --> OLE DB Destination.
Second part of my question: There is a second column called "ROW_NUM" and there is an Oracle Sequence provided to me... What objects do I need (Source, Destination, OLE DB Command etc...) and how do I call this sequence to populate on the fly as I'm loading data from my source?
If these are simple questions - my appologies, I am new to the product.
Best Regards,
Steve Collins

I wanted to know in order to connect to Oracle from the server,is it necessary that Oracle has to be installed on the server?.If yes, is it enough if i install oracle client on the server or Oracle Server version has to be installed on Server.

I have the OraOLEDB.Oracle provider installed to the (C:oraclexe) directory.
I am having problems querying from linked oracle server. When i setup oracle as a linked server and purposely enter an incorrect password the query i run tells me i have an incorrect password. So it at least knows that. when i set the correct password and run a query I get this error:

The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer".
This is how I set up my Linked server:
Provider: "Oracle Provider for OLE DB"
Product Name: SomeServer
Data Source: SomeServer
Provider String: "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=SomeServer;User Id=MyLogin;Password=MyPassword"
The query I run is:

Any help??? What am i missing?

My application which ran perfectly well yesterday suddenly stopped working in this morning with following error message. I didn't change anything, at least I believe. Interesting thing is that I don't use any Oracle connection but connects to MS SQL Server 2005 Express version locally. Error messages are different according to the connection string though I don't think it makes difference:
ConnectionString = <add key="Databasehandtool1" value="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Database=handtool;SSPI=true" />ErrorMessage from VS2008 ="Unable to get records. Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
ConnectionString = <add key="Databasehandtool1" value="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Database=handtool;User Id=handtool_DB;Password=mypassword" />ErrorMessage from VS2008 = "Unable to get records. Unable to connect to database. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified." By the way, the application was generated from IronSpeed 5.1 Enterprise. My development environment is : VS2008, SQL2005 EXPRESS, Windows XP SP2, ASP.NET 2.0
We have actually an Oracle server in the network though. My gut feeling is that something might have changed in my network server during the night but how come it can possibly affect my application running on my local PC. I checked the connection of local SQL Express Server from SQL Server Management Studio and it connected well with UserID=handtoo_DB and showed all tables and stored procedures required for the application. So there is no problem in SQL Server database side.
I would welcome and appreciate any input.

Hi,I have transactional replication set up on on of our MS SQL 2000 (SP4)Std Edition database serverBecause of an unfortunate scenario, I had to restore one of thepublication databases. I scripted the replication module and droppedthe publication first. Then did a full restore. When I try to set up the replication thru the script, it created thepublication with the following error messageServer: Msg 2714, Level 16, State 5, Procedure SYNC_FCR ToGPRPTS_GL00100, Line 1There is already an object named 'SYNC_FCR To GPRPTS_GL00100' in thedatabase. It seems the previous replication has set up these system viewsSYNC_FCR To GPRPTS_GL00100. And I have tried dropping the replicationmodule again to see if it drops the views but it didn't.The replication fails with some wired error & complains about thisviews when I try to run the synch..I even tried running the sp_removedbreplication to drop thereplication module, but the views do not seem to disappear. My question is how do I remove these system views or how do I make thereplication work without using these views or create new views.. Whyis this creating those system views in the first place?I would appreciate if anyone can help me fix this issue. Please feelfree to let me know if any additional information or scripts needed. Thanks in advance..Regards,Aravin Rajendra.

Hi,
I have a VB.net app that access a SQL Express database. I have transactional repliaction set up on a SQL 2000 database (the publisher) and a pull subscription from the VB.net app. I use RMO in the VB app to connect to the publisher. My problem is I am getting some strange behaviour as follows
- if I run the app and invoke the pull subscription it works fine. If I then close my app and go back in, I can access my data without any problem
- If I run the app and try to access data in my SQL Express database it works fine. I can then close the app, reopen it and run the pull subscription it works fine
however.......
- if I run the app, invoke the pull subscription (which runs fine), and then try to access data in my local SQL Express database without firstly closing and reopening the app, I get a login error
- if I run the app, try to access data in my local SQL Express database (which works fine), and then try to run the pull subscription I get a "the process cannot acces the file as it is being used by another process" error. In this case I need to restart the SQL Express service to be able to run replication again.
I get exactly the same behaviour when I use the Windows Sync tool (with my app open at the same time) instead of my RMO code to replicate the data.
I am using standard ADO.Net 2 code to access my SQL Express data in the app and closing all connections etc
Any advice appreciated !
Thanks
Ronan

Hi all,
I have recently setup a transactional replication in MS SQL 2000. After setting up the replication the clients TempDB grew by almost 60GB. Now the client is Blaming me for the TempDB GROWTH and saying that its because of the replication being setup i tried to convince them but they are not satisfied yet. Can anybody please tell me does replication cause the tempdb to grow. If yes then how. can u suggest any good link for getting to know the internal working of SQL Server replication????
Thanks in advance
Jacx
