I have a snapshot replication set up on a SQL 2K Server publishing to other SQL 2K servers. The publisher database has mutliple file groups - which is structured the same as the subscriber databases. The snapshot has been set to delete and recreate the tables on the subscribers - this is a performance decision as the tables are large and this is the better approach. The tables reside in their own file groups (but not the default). I want the replication agents to recreate these tables in the original file groups and not the default.
Is there a method within Replication to specify which file group to recreate the table in so it doesn't fill up the default file group?
I got a message that 'Could not allocate space for object '(SYSTEM table id: -732777483)' in database 'TEMPDB' because the 'DEFAULT' filegroup is full. Connection Broken'
partition with single file group or multiple file group which one best.
we have some report running from partition table, few reports don't have any partition Key and after creating 400 partition with 400 file group it is slow.what is best practices to crate 400 file group or single file group.
We have a new development SQL2005 server. To implement secutiry on this new server we decided to grant rights to NT-groups. We defined an NT-group Programmersmembers and gave this group the necessary rights. The problem now is when a member of this NT-group creates a table (this group is dbo in the development database) everything works fine as expected. But when a member of this group tries to make a new table through 'Microsoft SQL server management studio' they receive the error that there is no default schema available. But it seems to be impossible to map a default schema to an NT-Group.
=> Does this means we have no other way than to give each individual programmer the necessary rights and assign them to a default schema. It is no option to force our programmers to create each table through a script on the development database.
We're using Windows Authentication with our SQL Server. We've added a domain group to the SQL Server groups and would like to give it a default schema. The properties window is the same for users and groups but the default schema field is enable only for user entities. We cannot add a default schema to a group.
For a database, we have 4 data files in a particular file group and the file sizes are almost 70 GB each.
Do I come across any performance issues if I create/pre-allocate an additional data file in the same file group so that the existing files don't grow too much?
In a server we had File Growth,And then We had to Add New Hard Drive And New File On It.And Now We have New server with a Huge Hard Drive. But all files remaind. Can I Reduce This files to One data file or not ?
I have been evaluating merge replication, 'push' subscription on SQL Server 2014. If the default resolver is used (I refer to @article_resolver parameter of sp_addmergearticle), all seems to work as expected. However if I use "Microsoft SQL Server Subscriber Always Wins Conflict Resolver" (or any other MS standard resolver for that matter), if the Subscriber is on a different machine, the merge agent invariably gives the following error: "The process could not initialize <resolver_name>. Verify that the component is registered correctly."
This does not happen if the Subscriber is on the same machine as the Publisher and Distributor.
The problem seemed to exist in SQL Server 2008 according to some posts but it has been apparently fixed since then. I've tried the following:
- @partition_options = 0, as was suggested somewhere.
- Copied ssrpub.dll (the resolver dll) to the Subscriber machine (should not really matter as this is 'push' subscription?)
- Registered ssrpub.dll with regsvr32 on the Publisher/Distributor machine.
I've also run sp_enumcustomresolvers on the Publisher machine, and it happily showed all standard resolver, including the "Microsoft SQL Server Subscriber Always Wins Conflict Resolver".
Another thought is, I'm using SQL Server Express as the Subscriber (on the remote machine). Perhaps it does not support custom resolvers? (I'm using the full SQL Server in the 'local subscriber' variant, which does work OK as I mentioned before).
Note also that if I create a new publication via SSMS, the Resolver tab of the Article Properties dialog is empty, i.e. it does not list any resolver. The same tab contains the full list of resolvers though, if opened for an existing publication.
We have a couple of tables that can have quite a bit of data each day prior to replication. Can we increase the default values for a table for each subscription? For example we have a table called table1 and on the sqlexpress client they could enter in 10000 rows a day, on table2 it's just 100 rows a day. How can we increase the values to where we do not get the error for table1 stating that the insert failed because it conflicted with the identity range check constraint. Thanks in advance.
Why shrinkfile empty file does not redistribute data evenly in the primary file group with multiple files:
Please run the script attached to see what the end result is.
This is what I set up last night on my test machine.
1) Create database [FGTest] size 200MB 2) Create table called TEST on primary 3) Insert 40MB of data into test 4) Create another file group called temp in primary size 200MB 5) Shrinkfile('FGTest',emptyfile) so that all data is transfered from FGTest into temp file group. 6) Add another 2 files called DATA2 and DATA3. Both are 200MB. 7) We now have 3 empty files that I want data distributed evenly on. FGTest, DATA2 & DATA3 8) Shrinkfile('temp',emptyfile) to move all the data from temp over the 3 file groups evenly
I would expect at this stage to have the following:
FGTest = 13MB, DATA2 = 13MB, DATA3 = 13MB
(40MB of data over 3 files should be about 13 MBish in each file)
What I actually end up with is this:
FGTest = 20MB DATA1 = 10MB DATA2 = 10MB
It looks as though SQL Server is allocating 50% of all data to the original file and then 50% evenly over the remaining files in PRIMARY.
I want to change the default backup location of MSSQL. I know we can configure it while installing. But I want to change the default backup location of a particular database, running on a database server.
The default location is like. Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMssqlBackup
I was just going through the default trace files and see full of sort warnings, missing join predicates and hash warnings. The server behaved weirdly last night with queries longer than usual time and the server started choking. I didn't find any info from error logs or event viewer.
I am confused regarding why the default behavior of this option is to use file no 1 if the option is not specified? If I take two backups on different days, weeks, months, etc. and write them to the same Backup set, the second and most recent backup by the way gets the higher file number (position) as one would expect. What is incomprehensible to me is why the decision was made to restore the oldest backup from the backup set if you do not specify with file no? Seems like common sense that I would NEVER want to restore the oldest backup by default and would most-likely always want to restore the most recent backup by default!
If anyone has suggestions on how I could suggest that the behavior of this option be changed, I would appreciate it, as this has caused me much pain.
I am getting a backup file in default directory by using this script
Code Block BACKUP DATABASE CPHONE TO DISK = 'CPHONE.Bak' -- send to default pathaway WITH FORMAT, NAME = 'Full Backup of CPHONE'
Is there any way to find where is the default path of the SQL server, in order to show to the user from a VB program in which pathway the database back up is stored
I have the following problem: I'm connected to flat file source and trying to read data that is later inserted in an MS Access database. Everything wokrs fine instead of one thing - when I have null values in the flat file, I want those NULL values to be inserted in the MS Access db, instead of that what happens is that I actually get the default values for a column type from the flat file and later insert that defalut value. For example if I have a null value in an four-bite-signed-integer column of the flat file, I get 0 as value.
I thouth of solution using a "Derived Column" transformation which can transform the zeros into nulls, but decided to check with you guys if there is a smarter thing to do (for example to edit the flat file source to read the NULLs correctly).
I have an SSRS 2012 table report with groups; each group is broken ie. one group for one page, and there are multiple groups in multiple pages.
'GroupName' column has multiple values - X,Y,Z,......
I need to group 'GroupName' with X,Y,Z,..... ie value X in page 1,value Y in page 2, value Z in page 3...
Now, I need to display another column (ABC) in this table report (outside the group column 'GroupName'); this outside column itself is another column header (not a group header) in the table (report) and it derives its name partly from the 'GroupName' values:
Example:
Value X for GroupName in page 1 will mean, in page 1, column Name of ABC column must be ABC-X Value Y for GroupName in page 2 will mean, in page 2, column Name of ABC column must be ABC-Y Value Z for GroupName in page 3 will mean, in page 3, column Name of ABC column must be ABC-Z
ie the column name of ABC (Clm ABC) must be dynamic as per the GroupName values (X,Y,Z....)
Page1:
GroupName Clm ABC-X
X
Page2:
GroupName Clm ABC-Y
Y
Page3:
GroupName Clm ABC-Z
Z
I have been able to use First(ReportItems!GroupName.Value) in the Page Header to get GroupNames displayed in each page; I get X in page 1, Y in page 2, Z in page 3.....
However, when I use ReportItems (that refers to a group name) in the Report Body outside the group,
I get the following error:
Report item expressions can only refer to other report items within the same grouping scope or a containing grouping scope
I need to get the X, Y, Z ... in each page for the column ABC.
I have been able to use this - First(Fields!GroupName.Value); however, I get ABC-X, ABC-X, ABC-X in each of the pages for the ABC column, instead of ABC-X in page 1, ABC-Y in page 2, ABC-Z in page 3, ...
during period of troubles connecting to Local Servers and Sites location i.e., to [URL], the place where all Reports are saved by default, I have continued to work on some Reports that have been saved to file system of my localhost/developing machine. But, upon recovery of http location, I can not see/open those files?
how to approach those files in order to open them in Report Builder 3.0 and thus, to "save as" them to the http location? Seems that Report Builder has chosen that location, by default, somehow.....
In SSIS flat file import using fastload, I'm trying to import data into SQL 2005 previously created tables.
The table may contain column that are NULLable BUT there is NO DEFAULT for them.
If the incoming data from flat files contains nothing either between the delimeters, how can I have a NULL value inserted in the column instead of blank/empty string?
I didn't find an easy flag unless I'm doing something wrong. I know of at least two ways to do it the hard way:
1- set the DEFAULT(NULL) for EVERY column that needs this behaviour
2-set up some Derived Column option in the package to return NULL if the value is missing.
Both of the above are time consuming since I'm dealing with many tables. Is there a quick option to default the value to NULL WHEN there is NO data ELSE insert the data itself? So the same behavior that I have right now except that I want NULL in place of empty string/blank in the varchar(x) columns.
Weird. I have an Agent job that populates some warehouse data every night. It's been working fine for over a year. Then it fails with a message that thePRIMARY file group is full. The database is set to Simple recovery, automatic, unrestricted growth by 10% for both the log file and the data file. The drive it's on has 96GB free. The data file is 1.5GB and the log is 2MB and there's not very much fluctuation in the amoutn of data going into it. Anybody have an idea why that would happen? Thanks for any insight,Pete
Just ran the 6.5 to 7.0 upgrade. It put all tables into a 1 large file. Is there a way to move a single table out of the file and into a second filegroup?
I have created the file group for my database.First i took backup of individual file group(mdf and ndf) then I tried to restore only secondary(ndf) file group.I got error like
Restore failed for Server 'pcnameSQLEXPRESS'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended) File 'regSQL_dat' was not backed up in file 1 on device 'D:vtndf.bak'. The file cannot be restored from this backup set. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3144)
When i tried to restore only primary file group i got the same error.
Can i restore individual file group? I
For the purpose of data archiveng,i have taken back up of ndf file (it contains very old data) & i have removed this file from database. Now my customer asking these file data. Now i have to again attach/restore this ndf file.how to attach/restore.
