Report Export To PDF Fails At Times
Jul 31, 2007
Dear Friends,
I have created a Report (type Tabular) and deployed it on a report server. I am accessing the report via Report Viewer. Now when the report is exported in to pdf format, It gets exported and the pdf also gets created. But at times user is not seeing any data in the PDF even if the Report had data in it.
I am guessing the following may be the reason:
1. Network issues and bytes not received properly
2. Huge load on the Report Server and something have gone wrong.
But I am not able to get the reason why this happens. Anyone who has encountered the problem, please help me.
Thanks,
S Suresh

I scheduled a Bulk copy operation, and have been getting some inconsistent failures.
Last night the job was set to run every 3 hours, I expect it to take about 1 hour to finish.
The second itteration of the job failed, the first and third ran fine.
Here is the error from DTS
Any suggestions? Is there a better/stable Data Provider for SQL?

Hi,
I'm in an unfortunate situation. We are posting information using a stored procedure to an outside SQL server connected to through a System DSN on our server (win 2003 server) using php's ODBC functions (we never had any luck connecting directly to the SQL server using php's mssql functions).
Everything is working fine, we can connect, send querys, etc ... but between 1am and 10am we recieve errors when trying to execute queries (though we can connect fine).
Whoops ... forgot to get the error returned before it turned 10am ... I can post it tomorrow
I think the database is being locked, but unfortunately I know very little about MS SQL server
The people who's database we are connecting to are not being helpful ... I was hoping I could get some suggestions on what would be the cause.
Anything you can suggest would be a huge help! Thanks!
- Joe

Hello.
I have a report that runs to over 500 pgs of data. the number of rows returned is well under the maximum row limit for excel and teh data displays correctly within the report.
When trying to export to excel it fails to open an excel file. I believ this is because of the volume of data as with a samller set it works fine.
Is there any way to achive what I am trying to do so. I need the data feed in excel.
Thanks,
Kiran

When the dialog box appeared indicating file couldn't found, there was no option to look elsewhere for it the only option was retry or cancel which after 5 or 6 retries I cancelled. Everything else appears to have installed correctly for this instance.
Also earlier attempts to install have left services for named instances that I cannot install to such as SQLEXPRESS , SQLEXPRESS1 and CURRIEREXPRESS, I long ago had a beta version installed and have attempted numerous methods to completely wipe these out using the uninstallbetas tool from Microsoft as well as a number of suggestions from some posts.
Please help - The most significant reason I'm installing this is to practice creating SQL Reporting Service reports

Is there something that I can use to track how many times a report has been accessed or run or who has run it? Is there some kind of tool out there that does this?

We've edited a report in SSRS that initially ran with no errors. The view that the report runs from produces a resultset in about 3 seconds, but the report itself takes over 30 minutes then it times out.

Hello everybody,
I have a problem with RS. I have parametrized report - parametres are dateFrom and DateTo. It is always OK in a viewer, but when I click on export to any format and DateTo is far (about more than 1 month - it generates about 5 pages - about 200 rows) from DateFrom, it asks again for user login in a browser and it doesn't accept my login (but strange is even why it appears). Than I get a message "You are not authorized to view this page".
Where is the problems ? When I choose smaller range, it works OK also in exports.

From my web application, exporting to Excel works fine, but when I export to CSV and open with Excel I get 2 garbage characters. I can export the report just fine from the ReportServer.
Is there something special that needs to be done? Could I have an old file?
Could it be something in my report? We always have the following components:
-- textboxes in the page header and footer
-- page header refers to parameter values; page footer refers to globals
-- 2 date parameters and 1 hidden boolean parameters
We're running SQL 2005 Reporting Services, and I have SP2 installed.
(I write the reports, not the web app)

Hi all,
In my project, I have a website and through that, I run my reports. But the reports take a lot of time to render. When I checked the profiler, it showed that the SP for the report is run around 4-5 times. Due to this, the report rendering takes a lot of time.
When, I ran the SP with the same set of Parameters in Query Analyser, it ran in around 18 seconds. But when I ran the report from web interface, it took around 3 minutes to completely show the data. And the SP has been run 5 times.
I am having serious problems with Report's performance because of this. Many a times, report just times out. I have set the timeout as 10 minutes. And because the Sp is run 5 times, the report times out, if there is huge amount of data.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

In report builder 2.0, I cannot determine how to display the number of times a field has been filled out when a  one to many relationship is involved. I get an error every time I use two aggregates.
ID, Symptom_ID
1, 111
2, NULL
3, 222
3, 333
3, 444
4, NULL
5, 666
The result should be 3 out of 5 records... Or even better displayed as a percentage of the total 60%

I have a pretty complicated report (lots of subreports, tables, etc) that can be well over a few hundred pages long. I can generate the report just fine, but I cannot seem to export it to anything other than an html archive. I need to export to PDF. Every time I try to export it get an error that says:
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.
I don't get any more information than that. Is there a way that I can figure out what the actual error is, or any other way I can go about troubleshooting this? Thanks.

Hi,
I am facing problem while setting connection string in Report Service project.
Problem is when I specify DNS name instead of machine name as the Server in the connection string.
When I specify DNS name in the connection string it gives error that "A connection cannot be made.Ensure that the server is running" on click of "Test Connection"
Also I am not able to view reports directly through IE. I.e. http://<DNS_NAME>/Reports.
When I access Reports, it prompts me to enter username/password. Even after specifying valid username, it shows me the prompt again n again.
Is there some known issue with Reporting Service or with IIS setting not able to connect to a DNS name? I did not face with any issue when
I specified DNS name in the connection string of Analysis Service project.
Did anyone encountered DNS related problem with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service?
We also verified that:
1: Ping with both machine name and DNS name returns same result.
2: nslookup with both machine name and DNS name resolves to same IP.
3: Tried putting the DNS name in the hosts file.
Eagerly awaiting some positive reply.
Note: I am working with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.

VS2005 project with imbedded SQL Server reports works fine in VS IDE going agianst a network SQL Server 2005 or the local SQL Server 2005. However, when the application is deployed (to another computer). the application starts and connects successfully to the network SQL Server 2005. Everything works until the user tries to produce a report. Then the following error is generated:
Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe (the verbose part of the error message is left out). SQL Server agent is running both on the file server and the local computer. Also, named pipes and shared memory are enabled in file server and local computer (TCP and VIA protocoles are disabled). Same is done for Client protocoles.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Good day:
I've searched and found a whole lot of information regarding Report Builder's occasional failures to launch, but every single suggestion has not worked for me. I'll try to describe this as completely as possible.
PC 1: Login with my user id, navigate to either my test or production report server, click 'Report Builder'; application launches and can be used as expected. Login with a 2nd user id, and it works. OS is Win2003 Server. Because both logins work on this PC, which tells me the security credentials are set correctly.
PC2: Login with my user id, navigate to either my test or production report server, click 'Report Builder'; application fails to launch. I do not receive an error message or dialog. The 'frames' for the Report Builder form flash momentarily on the screen. Login with same 2nd user id, and it fails the same way. OS is WinXP SP2; all updates.
PC3: Login with my user id, navigate to either my test or production report server, click 'Report Builder'; application fails to launch. I do not receive an error message or dialog. The 'frames' for the Report Builder form flash momentarily on the screen. Login with same 2nd user id, and it fails the same way. OS is WinXP SP2; all updates.
On PC2 and PC3, I navigate to the ClickOnce cache in my profile, right-click and 'run as' the reportbuilder.exe file. Choosing 'run as' my login and providing a password -- voila -- the application runs. I have to manually set the link to the report server, but it appears all else works fine. Same situation when I use my 2nd user id. If I don't 'run as' and provide the password (just double-click to launch the file), I get the same 'flash frames' above.
Ultimately, the push is to get PC2 and PC3 to function as does PC1. My resident .NET expert is stumped, as am I. Please help.

Under Books online, topic "Install client and server components on a single computer"
Configure the Report Server and install samples
3. Verify that installation succeeded by launching Report Manager. In the URL address, type https://localhost/reports or http://localhost/reports. You should see the Report Manager Home page.
I get in IE with url http://localhost/reports :
<%@ Page language="c#" Codebehind="Home.aspx.cs" AutoEventWireup="false" Inherits="Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI.HomePage" %>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="MSRS" Namespace="Microsoft.ReportingServices.UI" Assembly="ReportingServicesWebUserInterface" %>
I can see in IIS, Default Web site, "Reports" and "ReportServer" and in SQLStudio Express both tables, "ReportServer" and "ReportServerTempDB"
I am running on Windows XP SP2

I have a particular report that fails to run. In the browser, the following is shown when the report is run:The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version. There is an error in XML document (1, 84459).'', hexa decimal value 0x01, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 84459.
When I look into the SSRS logs, I find the following:

There are no other system logs at the corresponding time of this failure.Other reports that use the same data source run fine. This problem is confined to a few reports within a larger report set. The reports are provided by a third-party so I don't have a lot of insight to what the report is actually doing. This is running on SSRS 2008 R2.

Hello.
I'm searching for an possibillity to export an report automaticaly - I just want to embed the download of subreport by clicking on a main-report label.
The only way, that I've found to do that is to use action with option "jump to url". Is it possible to use "jump to report"?
How can I do that?
If my only option to use "jump to url" (that would be horrible) how can I pass report parameter?
Thanks a lot.
