Report Format With A Group
Sep 26, 2007
Is there a way to have the data rows begin on the same row as the group fields. For example if I have a student with multiple tests/scores, I want the tests/score to begin on the same line as the students name.

I have a report builder drill down report. I have row groups with totals. It looks like the attached. The problem is when the report is not expanded the Grand Totals column is not accurate... it is displaying the totals of one of the rows when expanded. The expression in the Total Show text box is
= Switch (
MID(Fields!protocol_id.Value,1,7)="THERAPY",
Sum(IIF(Fields!status.Value = "CO", CDbl(Fields!TX_CO.Value), Nothing)),
MID(Fields!protocol_id.Value,1,7) = "GENERAL" and MID(Fields!program_id.Value,1,6)
= "INTAKE", Sum(IIF(Fields!status.Value = "CO",
[code]...
Is there any way to not display the expression in the Total columns unless the report is expanded?

I'll try to make this simple. I'm on SSRS 2005 and I have a report with a matrix object that has one row group and one column group. I need to switch the number format only for values where the column group has a specific value.
For example, here are the records in the table:
Customer, Type, Amount
Customer1, Revenue, -100
Customer2, Cost, 60
Customer1, Revenue, -200
Customer2, Cost, 125
By default the matrix object shows the following (the total comes from the standard subtotal on the column group):
Revenue Cost Total
Customer1 -100 60 -40
Customer2 -200 125 -75
But the users need the report to look like this, with all positives (why, oh why?! ):
Revenue Cost Total
Customer1 100 60 40
Customer2 200 125 75
I was able to use the inscope function to switch the signs of the Total numbers. But now I need to switch the signs of the Revenue column from negative to positive (and vice versa), without affecting the signs of the Cost column. It's strange to me because I CAN switch the signs for a specific row group (changing Customer1's number format, without affecting Customer2's format) using something like this:
=iif(Fields!Customer.Value = "Customer1", "($#,###.#0); $#,###.#0", "$#,###.#0; ($#,###.#0)")
But a similar expression specifying a column group value does not work, because the report seemingly doesn't recognize the value of the column group at all no matter what I do:
=iif(Fields!Type.Value = "Revenue", "($#,###.#0); $#,###.#0", "$#,###.#0; ($#,###.#0)")
The other reason why this is strange is that I've done drill-through reports off of matrix objects where specific column group values (the ones clicked on) can be passed into the drill-through report parameters. So it recognizes the column group values upon drill-through, but not for formatting?
How else can I do this? I must be missing something here. Thanks.

***SSRS 2000 ISSUE***
Hi All
Recently, several of our users have started to experience issues with hyperlinks in a report. I have created a textbox added navigation and selected the report to 'jump to' and the users are getting this error:
The specified server url does not link to the report server for this report manager or is not in the correct format
I have changed this to a an url but the error persists - there is nothing on google or MSDN that i can find which relates to this error so im kinda stuck with this one! The error is not affecting all users, just a small subset of them. Each of the users has different AD rights with one of them being a Domain Admin so i dont think it is a security issue.
the hyperlink which is being built is this :
http://<SERVERNAME>/SQLReports/Pages/Report.aspx?ServerUrl=http%3a%2f%2f<SERVERNAME>%2fReportServer%3f%252f<SERVERNAME>%252fS<REPORTNAME>
*obviously the <SERVERNAME> and <REPORTNAME> are not real server or report names - im just being cautious by not including this detail on a forum post.
Report manager is installed on several machines as part of a webfarm but this has not caused any problems in the past (i have over 200 reports under my belt thus far)
....Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,
I have three differents sub-reports, each one inside a table object.
Each table has a property "page break-before" enable.
When I execute the view-report in HTML 4.0 format, the reports are executed with success, but when I export to PDF format, the property "page break-before" inserts a blank page at the end of each sub-report. How can I do to suppress the blank-pages when exporting to PDF format ??

Hi,
Can aybody help me in the below requirement.
I have a report like below:
<<Name Of Compnay>>
<<Name Of Report>>
<<Todays Date>>
<<ReportPeriod>> From Date - To date
The above is header and then the data in the report should come as the <<Data>> and # to be used as separator for columns.
163 #GXXX #ABC Comp Ltd. #DTDC#PPPP ABC XYZ ETC #111
*End Of Report*
How can I get this exported as it is to the .txt file?
Currently I have acheived this with SSIS, where I have kept the header template, footer template in my folder. The SSIS generates the .txt file and then I use the execute process transformation to merge the files and data. I am getting the exact o/p as I want. But in this I am intorducing lot of IO in the package by every time creating a new header for the data to be replaced as todays date and the period to be replaced by the user selected Report Period.
How can this be achived using SSRS? Is any custome code required?
Thanks in advacne for your help.

Virendra

Hi,
I am trying to export a report into a format whiich I will then allow the user to make some final editions to prior to printing. Apparently LocalReport>Render does not support word format, however is supports others, what is the best format for me to export a report out into in order to then allow the user to edit it prior to printing, Ideally I would have just liked to lauch ms word and allow the user to edit the report if disired prior ro printing, but if I first export to .mhtml it seems to mess the column widths of the report up when opened in word..
Thanks,

I am using the open source RDL generator project to create report definitions at runtime.
However, the RDL generator appears to generate code in an old rdl format.
When I copy the XML code into my report, I get the following message: "The file Report1.rdl must be converted to the current report definition format. After it has been coverted, you cannot edit this file with previous versions of Report Designer. Do you want to convert this file?"
After I convert the file, the report looks great.
The problem is that I don't want to have to copy the XML code to the report everytime and run this conversion. Is there any way to run the conversion from Visual Studio in my program? Then the XML code would be right from the get-go.

Is changing the display format of the Y axis of a column chart supported in the Sept CTP or is it going to be supported in the official release? For example I have built a report model with the numeric sales values set as 'C' for currency and have created a simple bar chart with year on the category axis and sales on the Y axis. The problem is that the Y axis displays as a general number (10000000) and would like to display it as a currency ($10,000,000). I can't for the life of me figure out how to display the Y axis as currency in Report Builder.

The problem I am facing is this.
When I export the report to excel for the first time every thing is fine. The issue is when I export after the second time.
From the second time whenever i export the report to EXCEL, I see that the second excel sheet does not follow the same alignment and format the first one had.

Hi experts,
What I am trying to do is to open an existing report in a Print Friendly format .
What is the simplest way to do this using Visual Studio?
Here's the sort of thing I hope is feasible:
I can open my Report on a web page , then on that page can be a button / link for the user in case they want to open
that report in a separate window.
So I'd like to jump to that page by jumping to an URL and sending all parameters
something like :
http://Dev_Server/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fMy+Reports%2fTest+Report&rsaramOne=Parameters!paramOne.value + paramTwo=Parameters!paramTwo.value + etc all other parameters , I have on that report
Any suggestions would be really appreciated .

we're about to plan exactly how we install rs reports on our customers' systems and are wondering if there is more of a binary/compiled format that can be deployed as opposed to the xml source we see in .rdl files?
We keep the lowest form of everything (.dlls, sql scripts etc) in deployment directories and wonder if RS2005's lowest (or most efficient for deployment) form is the .rdl itself. I noticed that Reporting Services (when scripting a report in mgt studio) shows what appears to be the .rdl wrapped in VB but dont really know if that form has to be stored or not on the ReportServer DB in order for RS to work. I couldnt find a ReportServer DB table that had this form but have to believe it is there somewhere if Reporting Services can display it. But maybe a format more geared toward execution is stored along side it?
So if .rdl can be considered "source code" I guess the question is "does it need to be deployed in that form for RS to work or is a more binary like format also available"?

Hi guys,
I have a simple report created with rs2005. I want to get the output exported (using the export options of rs2005) in a specific xml format, so I am using xslt transformation to get it proper.
My problem is that, when I'm doing this using my own machine (SQL Server 2005 32bit installed) everything works OK. BUT when I want to try it on a server that we are supposed to use it gives me a real bad error. On the server, if I have the report without using xslt, it gets exported OK but not in the correct format. I have tested the report on a 32 and on a 64 bit server, I have used either SP1 and SP2 but still can't get through. The error message appearring while I try to export in xml is "Server Error in '/Reports' Application. The XSLT path is invalid. It refers to an external resource, uses invalid syntax, or the XSLT was not found in the catalog."
Has anyone seen something like this before ?
Your help would be much appreciated.
Thanx in advance

We have an application that can spit out our Facility Structure into the following format. However, we have a need to take that data and feed it into another system. However, as you can see it is organized in a PARENT / CHILD structure.
Indent Level Key:
1System
2Facility
3Service Line
4Division
5Department
If you notice, each additional row is the child row to its parent above it as long as the Indent Level Key continues to increment. Once we start going back up the structure we essentially have a new Division/Service Line/or Facility depending on how far back we jump on the Indent Level for that next row. Here is some sample data.
--===== If the test table already exists, drop it
IF OBJECT_ID('TempDB..#Test_Data','U') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE #Test_Data
--===== Create the test table with
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
[Code] .....

Hi. First, I am VERY new to SQL Queries and Reporting. A co-worker is "mentoring" me, but I am trying not to fill his day with questions.
I HAVE read the help files, searched the forums, looked at books, and done general web searches, but any answers I have found have either no addressed my issue, or the answers are way over my head.
Furthermore, the (SQL 2000) DB is built into proprietary software (ISS Proventia Intrusion Prevention System), and the database may NOT be modified outside of the software.
With that said, I am querying multiple tables within the DB. I am using Business Intelligence Dev Studio, and placing my queries on a reporting server maintained by my co-worker. My goal is not only to get a solution, but also to UNDERSTAND it so I can continue to learn. Of course, the solution takes precedence over my understanding!
My Primary key is dbo.SensorData1.SensorDataID. dbo.SensorDataAVP.AttributeText returns a different number of rows, containing different data depending upon the value of dbo.SensorData1.AlertName. I need to return all rows, hence the Left Joins.
Depending upon my query, I might have 1000 events, and due to the many rows of data from dbo.SensorData1.AlertName I might return 20,000 rows (or more.)
I would like to return a report that "groups" events by dbo.SensorData1.SensorDataID., BUT, rather than simply providing these in groups, provides me single rows with a plus sign next to each even, that can be expanded for the additional data.
My co-worker has discussed sub-tables, but since I cannot modify the DB, it will be difficult / complex to do so, AND, for me to understand.
One of my queries follows. I have thirteen queries, total, that use various groupings of attributes. I have chosen one of the more complex combinations so I can generally apply the concept to the queries with fewer parameters more easily.
Note, I'll be asking the same question on www.sqlservercentral.com in the hopes of getting an answer I can understand one of these two places - If you answer here, there's obviously no need answering there answering there.
Thank you in advance.

Hi all;
Could any body tell me as to how I would be able to pass report grouping in drill through report.
Please review the diagram below to better understand my problem
Report 1 (Summary) Columns1 Column 2
Row-1:Grouped by attribute X Calculation based of dates Calculation based of dates
Row-2: Grouped by attribute Y Calculation based of dates Calculation based of dates
The Drill thru option should be present in all of the columns; so that, when any of the numbers in the column are clicked it should drill through to another report which should show all the records pertaining to all the values in X1
Report 2 (Details) Report 3 ((Details)
X1 Y1
X2 Y2
X3 -
X4 -
X5 -
- Yn
-
-
-
Xn
What I did so far was to pass the report parmeter in report 1 as "Fields! attribute X ,Value" and same for Y
The problem with is that only the first value of the group that satisfies condition gets passed on to the detail reports. Kindly let me know were I am going wrong and what should I be doing.
Awaiting your opinions
Thanks and Regards

Hi,
I started working with SRS from the past one month. I am breaking my head to do this. My report has a single stored procedure. I made it to work all values of a parameter like
exec sp_employee 'All' (Returns data for all employees)
exec sp_employee '1111' (Returns data for an employee with id 1111)
exec sp_employee '1111,2222' (Returns data for an employee with id 1111 as well as 2222)
This part works perfectly. I could successfully pass the values as mentioned above using a code block.
Now my challenge is how to layout the data on the report.
I need to show the report as follows:
Employeeid Employee Name Address etc.......
Skills:
Skill# Skill Name
1 11111
2 22222
3 33333
4 44444
Contacts:
Contact Type Contact#
Main 111-1111
Emergency 222-1111
Eductation:
Name University
Degree UofU
Masters UofU
I tried using group by employeeid. But i can only show one group of data either Skills/Contacts/Education.
I do not know if I use sub-report, how to pass the parameter from the main, when I pick multiple values for Employeeid.
Any idea how to do this? I appreciate your help,
Thank you,

Hi all.
I've created a horizontal report using a matrix according to the quite useful article Horizontal Tables, but there's one thing I'm trying to do that I'm not having any luck figuring out how to do, and that is creating a footer column for a column group that contains a sum of the values in some of its columns.
In other words, here's how I would like to have it look...
Jan
Feb
Mar
Quarter 1 Total
Apr
May
Jun
Quarter 2 Total
Tier 1
$100
$100
$100
$300
$0
$0
$100
$100
Tier 2
$50
$50
$0
$100
$100
$100
$100
$300
The fields in the dataset are Month, Tier1, Tier2, Year and Quarter. I've created a group on Year & Quarter, tried right clicking and selecting Subtotal, but that seems to add a subtotal column after every month, not at the end of the quarter group as I want.
Any ideas on what I need to do? Is this even possible?
TIA

I'm dealing w/ SSRS 2005.
I have my main matrix report which has five row groups.
What I'd like to do is have the subtotal at the 4th level have a coloring for the whole row at run-time....so the user can follow from left to right what the 4th level subtotal actually is (the report can get fairly wide).
At design time, you don't even see the rows to the right of the subtotal, you just see the subtotal box.
Thanks!
