Hi All ,
I have a user in Report Manager as Browser.
I want this user to create report snapshots but when i give this permission to this user with Manage report history permission , this user can also make changes on execution properties and history properties of the report.
Is there a way to let the user only and only create & view report snapshots but not modify the execution and history properties of the report ?
I want to make the ReportServer and Reports pages secured i.e not allow anyone to access these pages via browser.
I login to a machine as user ABC. This user does not have permission on reports. if this user accesses ReportServer or Reports, expected is that access should be denied unless I enter an account that has been given permissions. for e.x. following pages should be secured. http://<reportserver>/Reports http://<reportserver>/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2f<Report_Project>%2f<Report_Name> http://<reportserver>/ReportServer http://<reportserver>/ReportServer?%2f<Report_Project>&rs:Command=ListChildren
Actual result is that I am able to access these pages. When I click on the report I get the error (this is expected) but then user ABC should be shown error on first page itself.
In short, for all the accounts that do not already have permissions on reports, the server should challenge me to enter an account and password. Is there some setting in the configuration file? Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance!
There is a report when you click servername, report and run SCHEMA CHANGE HISTORY I had my SQL 2005 running for a few weeks and this is many listed from day started is there a way to recycle this and clean it up on a weekly basic
How can we programmatically cause a Manual Report History Snapshot to be created.
I know it can be done using the Webservice. How would we do it using the ReportServer stored procedures. Which SP/SP's can we call. With what parameters.
I have a report that runs monthly and they want to see the previous 2 months of data. This data is stored no place other than the snapshot of the same report for the previous 2 months. Is there any way I can display the last 2 snapshots/history withing my report? Thanks.
I would like to know if there is a way to maintain the history of changes to the reports that have been published to the report server?
I know that the report definitions get saved onto ReportServer database. But let's say a user makes a change to the published report and then saves it back to the server. And that the latest change was incorrect and I have to revert back to the previous version of the published report. Is there a way to do that? Does the report server maintain a history of previous versions.
There is a history for each report and I think that corresponds to the history of report executions (output data). But I am talking about the history of actual report definition.
How can I make a copy of an SSRS Report history snaphot to another folder in Report Manager. I have a report that has history snapshots. But want a copy of the report snapshot history in another folder for users to view easier in Report Manager.
We have a need to report on historical data when none exists in the database.
Create a tabular report rdl that is run on a regular schedule. This report run is saved as an Excel sheet that overwrites the previous run, which has the same name.
Report is designed to use two data sources--the database and and the previously run Excel sheet. The data is "merged" using the Lookup function thereby creating a new report that includes the history needed.
We are using SSRS 2012. Before we were with 2005. Both the versions have the problem. When a change made to parameters (like adding additional parameter to existing report or changing default value of parameter) using visual studio on developers machine and re-deploy to server, additional parameter or changes to parameter is not showing up. So, we are first deleting the report from server and then re-deploying. This works fine. But we realized that we are losing history of the report (like data related to this report run from execution log). We need the history of report. It is very important to top management to see the details. When I searched in forums, users say that it still exist in 2012 and 2014 and every one talks about deleting and re-deploying report. I would like to know if there is any other alternate route to redeploy additional parameter and not lose history.
As I understand correctly, SSRS is able to assign a domain user to a report item. I have more than 2000 reports which need to be assigned to > 2000 unique domain users, is there a way I can run a script to automate this process? Otherwise what is the right way to do this?

I gave a user all required permission to view the SSRS report. User is able to select from the dropdown list but unable to view the data, It is showing a blank screen.
We are going insane trying to start Report Manager on a SQL Reporting Services 2000 installation. The programmer/admin who originally set this up for us is gone.
We recently upgraded a database/application server to a new server, causing the data source being used by reports in reporting services to no longer be valid. Unfortunately, we do not have access to the original report project to 're-deploy' with the corrected data source.
We desperately need to get the reports that are installed to retrieve their data from the new database location/machine. We understand this can be done by specifying a new data source in Report Manager. (To clarify, we have NOT moved the report servier installation or database, these remain in place - it's just the deployed reports that no longer point to the correct data source.)
For some reason, our Report Manager will no longer run - when we try to launch it, we get a windows login dialog - nothing will work here. We've tried both local and domain admins and constantly get ACCESS IS DENIED 401.3 error messages that we do not have permission/problems with ACL's.
We've gone so far as to allow EVERYONE read/write access to the ReportManager and ReportServer folders and the RS virtual directories, but nothing seems to help.
Can anyone help with this? Ideas on how to change our data source, or how to get back into Report Manager?
Since we are somewhat technical, but not experts, and don't have much more time to waste, we are willing to pay $500 for this project to someone willing to access the server and fix the problem so that the reports point to the correct database and restore access to Report Manager.
I have an application that uses Integrated Windows authentication. My Web.config looks like below <add key="dbconnection" value=" server=XXX;Initial Catalog=XXX;persist security info=False;Integrated Security=SSPI;Pooling=true" /> When users try to access my application, they get the below error: Execute permission denied on object 'SprocName', database 'DBNAME',Owner,'dbo' The Only way I could get rid off the error is if I set DBO permissions for the user group on the databse. Can someone suggest how to set up a security group with the ‘necessary’ permissions on SQL SERVER (ie read, write execute Sproc etc) and not too many extra ones, like DBO. Thanks,
SQL Server 2005 anomoly? In SQL Server Management Studio I granted specific permissions to user "A" to do Select, Insert, Update, Delete on Table "B" - When I logged on as User "A" and attempted the Insert imto table "B" I got the following error: "Insert Permission Denied on Table B, Database C, Schema dbo" Is this a problem with the dbo schema?
Then I went back and created a stored proccedure "D" with the exact same Insert statement inside the procedure. I granted User "A" execute permission on the stored procedure "D". I then logged on as User A and executed Stored Procedure "D". No Problem - stored procedure executed fine with the Insert. I attempted the Insert statement again - straight SQL - as User "A" and got the same error as above ("Insert Permission Denied.....") Strange behavior - cannot do a SQL. Insert even though user has permissions but can execute a store procedure with the same Insert statement. What gives?
The 'view job history' on Enterprise Manager is showing me only 4 or 5 run histories. I want to see more history on each of the jobs.Even I changed the limit to 10000 lones from 1000 lines on the server properties in the job system option, I am still seeing only the last 4 or 5 histories for each job(there are a total of 70 jobs on the server).Any ideas??Thanks. Reddy.
I have set up a job as sa.After that I changed the sa password. Now I am not able to view the job history since then.Do i need to delete the job and reschedule it?
I have a question about the sql job history. I have a sql 2000 server that was recording all the job history on my sql jobs just fine until the other day. Today I checked the history and the jobs didnt show the past history anymore. Just today's history. So if the job didnt run today there is no history for that particular job. This isn't true, the job was run a few days ago. I know that no one went in and cleard the history on the jobs. What causes this issue, is there a way to not make this happen in the future? Is there a way I can recover the past history for my jobs.
i have my job running every 5 min. I want to view the history log. In job history it shows only few hundreds of records.. But i want to see from beginning. where to view whole log of job history?
hello, I'm am looking for a smart solution for keeping history of changes in records in my sql database. Not only history of a record but also which user caused the change and when (I have the username in session). for now I added 4 fields to each table: "created by","created on","cancelled by",cancelled on", when the user create a record the 2 first fields are filled and and a user delete a record the two last fields are filled and the record is not really deleted but it won't be shown again (I'm using "where createdby is null"). this solution is taking the performance down and it does not solve the editing record tracking. creating new records and cancelling old ones for editing/changing solve that but than I m having problems with the primary key and relations to other tables. I tried also to use a table that holds records that descirbes every change in records in my tables. it's very hard to search old data that way. I know that oracle databases has a smart solution for history... please someone advise me.. Elad.
hi , i am working on an application using c#, visual studio 2005, sql server 2005. i have a few tables in sql server 2005. i need to save the history. (i.e) all the inserts, updates, and deleats performed on the tables. can any one suggest me how can i achieve that. should i use triggers and save the changes in another table ??? waiting for your suggestion?? thank you
Hi, I want to know where the history of stored procedures stored, I mean yesterday I created one procedure and today I dropped that procedure and recreate it, I checked in sysobjects table name, crdate it shows only the creation date of the procedure. Where can I find the Modification date or something related to procedure history.
I'm using merge replication between 10 SQL server 7.0 SP2 machines. One central server is the publisher and 9 subscribers. I’ve setup an alert to get a message in case of conflicts. I defined it to trigger everytime the performance counter conflicts/sec rises above 0.
After some experimenting this seems now to work reliable, but there is still one point which bothers me. All conflicts are kept in the conflict history and everytime I get a message through the alert the number of copnflicts stated in the message increases by one. Also if I open view replication conflicts in EM all conflicts can still be viewed even those I manually resolved. I can't even find a way to seen which conflicts are new ones and which have been resolved already. Does anybody know a way how to reset this numbers without going through all the conflict tables.
In SQL 6.5, when a scheduled job failed, you could see the error message in the history. In SQL 7.0, it simply tells you which was the last step to run. Is there a place which will report the actual error message generated by the task?
I have set up a job as sa.After few days I changed the sa password. Now I am not able to view the latest job history since then.It says the last run as 'succeeded',but it is not showing the latest history since the time I changed the password. It still shows the previous history only.Do I need to delete the job and reschedule it? Thanks!
I feel stupid asking this because I have worked with SQL Server 6.0/6.5 for serveral years now, but I can't seem to find the task history in 7.0. When I look at a task, I can tell if each step ran or not, but I am used to seeing error messages upon failure by right-clicking on the task and choosing history.
How do I find this in 7.0? In casual looking for a few days, I've come up empty.
Hi I have a full database backup scheduled at 2AM in the morning everyday and If I see that job status in Sql Server logs current activity , it shows me that database has been backed up at 2AM....But the problem is when I go to jobs and try to do a view job history it doesn't give me the details of the job and I didn't clear the job history..Can anyone tell me the reason why it doesn't show me the job history.
Hi - In order to restore a DB on another system I need to know the exact expansion history of the source DB in order to create/expand the devices on the target system the same way... Is there a way for me to see the history of expansions I did on a DB ?? Tanx, Paul
I have several transaction tables on which I need to track the changes. That is I need to maitain the history of changes. Only few column values are changed often.
Which is the best way for tracking the changes.
1.Store the whole record after the change ?
Or
2.Store the ColumnName & its respective old & new value ?
Or any other better.
Note : UI part & SP's will take care of the tracking & no plans for triggers.
