Report Model Error-More Than One Item In The Entity 'table' Has The Name 'columns'
May 22, 2008
While building Report Model Solution in Business Intelligent Studio i am getting following errror-
More than one item in the Entity 'table' has the name 'columns'. Item names must be unique among immediate siblings.
Please advice how to resolve this one.
Thanks
Ashwin.
student - sno (pk), sname subjects - subno(pk), subname marks - sno(fk), subno(fk), marks
While creating the report model:
1.Created the data source - no problem 2. created the data source view - no problem added all 3 tables here. 3. created the report model - only subject and student show up here. Where is the marks table?
I am trying to use a very easy and simple feature of a reportmodel, model item security.
In my example i have two users; HGHJohn and HGHJKooi
I want to test if I am able to restrict access in the model to a whole entity. HGHJKooi shouldn't be able to see the entity 'Customers'.
These are the steps I executed:
1. In Sqlserver management studio I opened the properties of my model and navigated to the tabpage 'model item security'.
2. I activated the option 'secure individual model items...'
3. In the root of the model I declared two users(groups) as specified above
4. Automatically all nodes inherit these settings from the root.
5. For the entity 'Relations' I change the default, by selecting 'use these roles for each group or user account'
6. I removed HGHJKooi from this list, leaving only 'HGHJohn as model item browser
What I expected at this moment is that when I login the system as HGHJKooi, then I won't see this entity, but I still can! Does anybody know a solution to this problem?
I would like to ask you sthg as far as the e-r model is concerned! I haven't started of course to use SQL yet, cause i have to make the e-r model first.
I have a a question to make :
For example i have to keep data for a Personal Computer (PC) So i have the entity : COMPUTER COMPUTER has many characteristics/fields like the primary key which is going to be PC_ID and it's unique for every computer,NAME_OF_PC the name and also TYPE_OF_MOTHERBOARD, TYPE_OF_RAM, TYPE_OF_HARD_DISK etc.
I have to keep for the TYPE_OF_MOTHERBOARD the manufacturer, the motherboard's code etc.
Shall i make an entity for the motherboard or for the HARD_DISK or for the RAM? Cause i want next to change these fields of every COMPUTER if it's n eeded! e.g. i have the PC_ID = 12 and i want to change the hard disk cause it's not working!(shall i keep an entity of the hard disk or not?)
My company is new to MDS. I am trying to set an attritube in an entity to read only so the users can't change the value in that field. When I did that, the whole model disappeared. I thought I had deleted it by accident so I created a test model and tried to do the same. The test model disappeared. This time, before saving the new settings I took a snapshot. After saving I took another snapshot. You can see that the whole model is gone (zz_RN_Permissions_Test). I tried every other coworker with admin rights and nobody shows it on the Models list. The behavior on the Excel add-in is correct. I can't change any values on that column. But I need to keep the models available.
Hi I just deploy a report model and want use report builder to create ad-hoc using this report model. I want some entitis and attributes are not visiable for some user, so I config the model item security for this model. But no matter which user I use to login the report server, I always can access all the entities. Even I delete all the groups and users in "Permissions" property of the model, I still can access this model through report builder. All the user I used to test are local user of server with report service, my server is SQL Server 2005+SP2.
I have a requirement to create a Report Builder Model programmatically and include only a subset of the Entities (Tables) in the Database referenced by the Data Source. What I have to do is create pre-filtered 'datasets' with application security (Role, User) already applied.
When I build a Model via GenerateModel() I get every table. This is because, unlike using Model Designer, I do not get to pick and choose which tables are to be included in the Data Source View.
Note: I cannot apply any security to the Model itself. This is as painful as applying security (table, column, row) directly to the database.
The answer is to set the Hidden 'property' at the Entity Level. I was hoping to use GetProperties() and SetProperties() but this is limited to Catalog Items? I know I can do this by 'editing' the SMDL(XML) and inserting
<Hidden>true</Hidden>
for the Entities I don't want to see but there *has* to be a better way.
I have a old report that was pointing to a different database, and i changed the connection string for that report and changed the field names (As per my new stored Procedure). In some places I keep getting this run time error, i have tried looking for all the hidden references to this field and i cannot find any parameter that the old database had. The error messages that i get are as follows:
[rsFieldReference] The Hidden expression for the table €˜tblContactInfo€™ refers to the field €˜PL_Admin_ShowInKit€™. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope.
[rsFieldReference] The Hidden expression for the table €˜tblContactInfo€™ refers to the field €˜PL_FA_ShowInKit€™. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope.
[rsFieldReference] The Hidden expression for the table €˜tblWithdrawals€™ refers to the field €˜PW_Comment€™. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope.
Can Someone please help me out as to how should i get rid of these error messages, they are kinda driving me nuts.
I've searched forums and found responses from 2006 forward, but none that I'd find satisfactory, so if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
I'm using SQL have SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 SP2. I've successfully used SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio to create reports and charts from data stored in an Oracle 10g database.
I have a distributed team and while I'm creating the official reports, I need them to be able to utilize the Report Builder to create their own reports for day to day management of their own activities.
I created a Data Source and a Data Source View successfully. When I tried to utilize the Report Model Wizard to create a report model the builder can use, I get an error. ORA-02179: valid options: ISOLATION LEVEL { SERIALIZABLE | READ COMMITTED }
I've read that this was ''fixed" with SP2. I've also read that there are work-arounds (which I don't necessarily understand). However, I've read plenty of MS documentation that says that this should work.
Can anyone provide any clarity around where my problem lies and how I might mitigate?
Hallo I've got a problem with the Report Model Wizard, when i run them i become following error: Invalid SQL statement; expected 'DELETE', 'INSERT', 'PROCEDURE', 'SELECT', or 'UPDATE'.
The datasource is a Access DB, when i do the same procedure with one of our other db (mssql) it works, but i need the report model to the Access DB.
Hello,Basically, I have a table with 2 fieldsId item#1 33332 33333 22224 22225 22226 33337 33338 3333I would like to only select the last identical Item# which in this case would be the id 6,7 and 8Any idea how could I do that?Thanks
I am trying to create an opportunity report that includes notes from the notes entity. Unfortunatly, when I pull the fields from the notes entity into my reports, it seems there is no way to tie the notes to specific opportunities or accounts that they are associated with and I get all notes under the first item listed on my report. Is there a way to link data sets like Access lets you link tables?
I am trying to deploy my report model project to remote server which is our QA environment using Visual Studio. In my Project Property I have set the Traget Data source folder and model folder and URL. But I am getting this error any idea??? =================================== A connection could not be made to the report server "ReportServer URL for my remote server" . What kind of permission/role do I need to have inorder to deploy report model project on to the server. I am able to deploy same project on my local machine using visual studio.
I get the following error when I try to deploy a report builder model. The SQL Server 2005 "Reporting Services" are installed and running on the local machine.

I removed a role in the datasourceview of a datamodel. Later I removed the role in the reportmodel. There are always two roles for one relation. Now I only have one role left and I can't delete it anymore.
This is the error I get when building the project.
Error 2 The RelatedRoleID property of the Role 'invoicelineid' refers to the Role 'Gd1b03590-f98b-46aa-945d-c90ccd5d6028', which is not in the same SemanticModel as the Role 'invoicelineid'. Max generiek.smdl 0 0
When I try to remove the role I'll get an error : object reference not set to an instance of an object.
If I look at the properties of the role I see that when I open 'related role' there is nothing in it, except an ID: Gd1b03590-f98b-46aa-945d-c90ccd5d6028 and as name: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
I also tried to remove the whole entity but that resulted in the same error. It's not an option for mee to remove the whole model and autogenerate it again, but there is too much work in it already.
If I try to remove this thing in the xml itself it gives other errors and the model won't load anymore.
I'm only new to Reporting services and have just started working on a report model for ad hoc reporting.
I have around 50 tables, many of them related through FK's. How can I handle this when designing the model?
E.G
I have a Table called Posts, which has a Hospital ID which is an FK to the Hospitals table. A relationship exists between the two in my Data Source View, however I cannot access the Hospital Name (stored in the Hospital table) using the report builder.
I am attempting to create a new report model. When I try to update statistics from the data source view I get the following error - Data is Null. This method or property cannot be called on Null values. I tried changing the generation rules so that attributes are only created for non-empty columns but that didn't help. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.
I'm trying to create a few report models in Visual Studio to demonstrate the Report Builder tool and I'm encountering an issue when I try to generate a Report Model.
I get the error message "Specified Method Is Not Supported" when I click Finish on the Report Model wizard. The error detail is:
=================================== Specified method is not supported. (Microsoft Visual Studio) ------------------------------ Program Location: at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Wizards.ChooseSemanticModelName.CreateSqlDsvStatisticsProvider(IDbConnection connection) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.ModelDesigner.Wizards.ChooseSemanticModelName.BuildModel()
Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new Report Model project in Visual Studio 2005 against SQL Server 2005 2. Create a new data source. The data source was tested and works correctly 3. Create a new data source view. The data source view was also tested (clicked on Explore Data) and I was able to look at the data in the view 4. Right-click on Report Models and select "Add New Report Model" 5. Click next at the welcome screen 6. Select the data source view created in #3 7. Leave the selected options for report model generation rules for creating the data source view (Create Entities for all Tables, Create Count Aggregates, Create Attributes, Create Attributes for auto-increment columns, Create date variations, Create numeric aggregates, Create date aggregates, Create roles were all selected) 8. Click next 9. Select Update Model Statistics Before Generating (default option) 10. Click next 11. Click Run
Once I click run it processes for approx 3 seconds and then returns the error above.
If anyone could help me I'd appreciate it. Microsoft hasn't published any details on the namespace and I'm not sure why I'd be getting the error I am.
In MS Visual Studio, when creating a new Report Model Project, after defining a datasource to an Oracle database (and successfully testing it), and a simple datasource view (1 table), when I click "Run" in Report Model Wizard, I receive the following error: "ORA-02179: valid options: ISOLATION LEVEL { SERIALIZABLE | READ COMMITTED }"
It does not appear that one can create Report Models from an Oracle database (since the SQL being used to query the Oracle database cannot be edited and contains syntax errors?). Is this the case?
I've got a report model I am trying to move from a development server to a production server. I published it to my development RS, exported the SMDL file, then uploaded it to the production server. At that point, I tried assigning the data source to the model and got the error:
I have an interesting problem to report that I'm hoping someone will be able to assist in solving.
I have a report that contains a table inside of a list. When I view this report on my local machine via Visual Studio, everything appears normal, the columns are all the correct size. However, as soon as I publish this report to the report server and attempt to view it via Report Manager, one of the columns expands horizontally!
From all of the documentation I have read, I understand that Reporting Services does not provide the ability for columns to expand horizontally, only vertically. Can anyone help explain why this is happening or a possible solution to turn this automatic expanding off?
I have developed a custom report item that works fine in design and preview mode while in Visual Studio. I cannot get it to show up on my deployed reports. Here's what I have done so far:
1. Deployed the report using Visual Studio
2. updated the rsreportserver.config file with the following entry:
I've also tried using the StrongNameMembershipCondition with no better results.
4. The dll and its dependencies are copied to the bin directory of the report server.
5. When I load a report with this custom report item on it, the report loads fine with no errors or warnings in the log file (even with verbose tracing). The area where the custom item should be is just white. It's almost like Reporting Services isn't registering the item correctly.
This is particularly frustrating because the report works fine in Visual Studio - apparently I configured that correctly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm stumped.
I am receiving the following error when I run the report builder query. I am able to successfully select the dimensions and measures that I am intrested in but when I run the report I get the error message.
The 'PerspectiveID' custom property for the 'query' perspective is either not set or is not set to the string data type. ---------------------------- Semantic query execution failed. ---------------------------- Query execution failed for data set 'dataSet'. ---------------------------- An error has occurred during report processing.
I am testing this against both Adventureworks standard and enterprise cubes. Additionality I saw a post in this forum http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=368962&SiteID=1 that seemed related but I am using reporting services in sharepoint integrated mode so I am having a hard time trying to troubleshoot this.
I have posted this issue for a week, haven't got any reply yet, I posted it again and desperately need your help.
The article http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365343.aspx says: Model Item Security can be set for differnt security filters, but when I use SQL Server Management Studio to set Model Item Security, it seems "Permissions" property surpass "Model Item Security" property. -- My report server is using Custom Authentication.
For example, in "Permissions" property of the model, if I checked "Use these roles for each group or user account" without setting any user or group, no matter what users I added to "Model Item Security" with "Secure individual model items independently for this model" checked, NO one user can see the model on report manager and report builder;
in above situation, if I added "user1" and gave role such as "Browser" role to "user1" in "Permissions" property, if I checked "Secure individual model items independently for this model" in "Model Item Security" property, even I did NOT grant "user1" to root model and any entities under the model, the "user1" is able to access the model and all entities in report builder.
My question is on the same report model, how to set "AdminFilter" (empty security filter) for administrator permissions and set "GeneralFilter" (filtered on UserID) for general user based on their UserID?
The article also says:
"Security filters are always applied, even for users who have Content Manager or Administrator permissions to the model. To allow administrators or other users to see all rows of an entity on which row-level security is defined, you can create an empty security filter (which always returns True) and then use the filter to grant those users access to all the rows."
So I defined 2 filters "GeneralFilter" and "AdminFilter" for "Staff" entity for my report model "SSRSModel", I expect after I deployed the report model, the administrator users use report builder to build reports with all rows available, and the non-admin users can only see rows based on their UserID.
I can only get one result at a time but not both:
either the rows are filtered or not filtered at all, no matter how I set the "SecurityFilter" for the entity: I tried setting both "AdminFilter" and "GeneralFilter" for SecurityFilter at the same time, combination of "DefaultSecurityFilter" and "SecurityFilter", or one at a time.
Case: Exporting Report to PDF/Printing/TIFF Report: Contains 1 table with 19 Columns. 1 column is static, the other 18 are visible at the users descretion. Report when printed/exported to pdf spans 2 pages naturally, 16 on the first page, 3 on the second, and the column widths have been adjusted to provide a perfect page span .
User A elects to hide two of the columns, and show the rest. The report complies and the viewable version is perfect, the excel export is perfect.. the PDF export on the first page causes every fith column, starting with the last column that was hidden to be expanded to take up additional width. On the spanned page, it renders the first column on that page correctly, then there is a white space gap equal to the width of the hidden columns and then the rest of the cells show with the last column expanded to take up the same width that the original 2 columns were going to take up, plus its width.
We have tried several different settings to see if it helps this issue or makes it worse. So far cangrow/canshrink/keep together have made no impact. It is not possible to increase the page size due to limited page size selection availablility for the client. There are far too many combinations of what the user can elect to show or hide to put together different tables to show and hide on the same report to remove this effect.
Any help or suggestion on this issue would be appreciated
The error is "The table with Name of 'Table Name' does not exist. An error occurred when loading the Model."
We get this error when we try to check the properties of an analysis server using SQL Server Management studio. We have resolved this issue twice by Stopping the SQL Server analysis service, removing db folders from Analysis Server Data folder and starting the services back on. The db folder that we removed was advised by the BI team.
