Query Execution Failed For Data Set &&<name&&> For More Information About This Error Navigate To The Report Server On The Local Serv

Jul 10, 2007

I have created and deployed my first report. It renders fine for me and the other database admin. When others attempt to view it, we get the error

Query execution failed for data set 'periods'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand), For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors

Initially, We created a local group on the machine that hosts both the database and webserver and added the individuals to that group. Then, within SRS Report manager, we added that group to the Browswer role of the report.
The error message was slightly different, in that it couldn't even open the Datasource.

We then added an individual to the database as dbreader, and got the above message. It apprently is starting to render, and when it encounters the first query (dataset "periods", which populates a drop down list for a parameter), it chokes. BTW, the Periods dataset executes a stored procedure dbo.Period_List that has no parameters. It returns a list of reporting periods.

I could not figure out how to "enable remote errors" or find an error log on the server. The C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesLogFiles Log files did not appear to record any errors.

Please advise!

SQL Server 2005 Security Setup For ASP.Net Web Application Data Access - HELP!

Nov 17, 2007

Here is my situation: I am creating a database driven ASP.Net web application that will be used over the internet. My ASP.Net application connects to my SQL server 2005 database/server by using a SQL server login. I am using the DPAPI API to encrypt my connection stings with a hidden entropy value for extra security. I am using the SQL login for obvious reasons, as my users will not have a windows login.

What I am trying to do: I want to limit this SQL login account to be able to just run/execute stored procedures and NOT access the tables or views directly. In my ASP.Net application I am using the MS applications data block, and I am using stored procedures for every single database access action. There is no inline SQL being executed from my web application.

What I have tried so far:

I created a new schema and made the above SQL login account owner of this schema. I then granted "Execute" permissions to the SQL login and DENY permissions to all other permissions.

I created an database role with "Execute" only permissions and DENY permissions to all other permissions.

What Happened: In BOTH of the above scenarios I tested a direct SQL statement against one of my tables, from my ASP.Net application and I was able retrieve data back, NOT GOOD, exactly what I am trying to STOP.

If someone could give me (Step-by-Step) guide on how to setup the situation I am looking for, I would be very grateful!

Thanks to all that help!

Setup And Upgrade :: One Machine 6 IPs - How To Setup DNS For Server

Apr 24, 2015

I am running a number of SQL instances on my PC. Within the network, I have think server with various System Center components. For compatibility reasons, some features of System Center 2012 R2 had to be delegated to different SQL databases. My question is, because there is now more than one IP address on my system, and each instance of SQL is assigned to its own IP, is there a way to setup DNS and SQL so the namespace points to the desired IP address? For Instance:

MSSQL2008 instance is set to run on = 11.12.13.1
MSSQL2012 is set to run on = 11.12.13.2
IN DNS:
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.1
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.2

If I want to use MSSQL2008 by specifying Mike-PC as the DNS name, how would I do that with 100% accuracy? If there is another way to get the job done, I am more than willing to approach this differently.

Report Schedule Setup

Dec 19, 2007

I am new for MS SQL Reporting Service and I have some questions to consult experts.
We use MS SQL Server 2005 and create the reports in SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio, then upload to SQL Server Report Manager (Report web server like http://webhost/Reports). The reports run ok there. My question is how to setup schedule the reports with parameters.
For example, the DVD rental report is with Rental Date, Return Date, and Store Name. It will run weekly for 5 stores, and send the report by excel format and by email with dates range parameter to individual store (5 emails). And another additional request is do not send the report if it has no data.
Please teach me how to implement the schedule setting on Report Manager step by step in detail.
Thanks a lot for any help.

Trying To Setup A Subscription For A Report

Jan 24, 2008

Hi there,
I am trying to setup a subscription for a report that I developed in SSRS (reportbuilder). The report is accessible via the intranet.

I want the server to create the report as an Excel or CSV file on a shared directory called \cdbd$ mpMarcsub

It seems easy: there is a tab "subscriptions" in the report. I configure the schedule, etc... but when the report is supposed to run, I have an error message:
"
Failure writing file <reportname> : The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information.
"

There's no SSRS administrator in the house. Can someone help me where to find this SSRS log file and eventually point me to a number of possible problems ? Could this simply be a login/pwd problem ? the subscription scheduler interface asks me for a login and pwd. What login and pwd must I provide ? The one of the server itself ? The SQL Server 2005 login/pwd ?

Tough... for me but certainly easy cake for you guys.

Thanks to help me out.

Marc.

Page Setup Disabled In Report Designer

Mar 22, 2007

I'm trying to change the snap-to grid functionality in a SRS 2005 Report Design (within VS 2005). I tried the same steps in the following post, without success. Based on the SRS help, it appears you change Grid Settings by accessing the File > Page Setup dialog, but the Page Setup (along with Print) is disabled.

Maybe these are instructions for Report Builder only? If so, how do you adjust the Grid Settings (to turn off the "snap" functionality) for a SRS Report project in Visual Studio?

Thanks,

Use Report Server Project To Connect To Report Model Project Data Source View?

Jan 17, 2008

Hello,
I've created a Report Model Project that can be used by Report Builder to generate ad-hoc reports. I'm trying to create a connection string in my Report Server Project that points to the Report Model Project data source view.

All I can do is create a regular datasource, which bypasses the metadata contained in the Data Source View.

Basically I want my Report Server Project and my Report Builder reports to leverage the same metadata. Is this possible? If so how do I get the connection string?

Thanks!!

Physical Setup: 1 Data File Vs Multiple Smaller Data Files

Jul 20, 2005

Hello all. Before my arrival at my current employer, our consultantsphysically set up our MSSQL 7 server as follows:drive c: contains the mssql enginedrive d: contains the transaction logdrive e: contains the data filesNo filegroups were set up and the data files consist of only 1 largephysical file. Currently, our data file is >10GB. When I was trained onthe physical aspects of sqlserver, I was told to never create physical files> 2048MB each. If I did, I could expect inefficient physical storage ofdata and slower performance (due to the OS).Our server has 2 RAID-5 arrays. Drive c: and e: are located on the firstarray and drive d: on the second. We're running Windows 4.0 NT Server SP6with NTFS.Can someone comment on the use of 1 single large data file vs. more smallerdata files?

Query Setup

Apr 28, 2006

I'm used to the old Query Analyzer, and now with the Management Studio, I'm finding some things I don't like and I wondered if there's a way around them. First, I set the database that I want to use, and then go to open a script file that I want to run, and that causes the database to change back to "master". Also, if you want to run multiple scripts on a single database, you still have to connect to that database every time you want to run a script. Is there any way around that?

Thanks for your help!

Query Notification - Setup Problems

Jul 16, 2007

Hi Guys,

I'm having some problems setting up a SQL Server 2005 Query Notification application. I've only recently moved from SQL Server 2000 so 2005 is still a little alien to me!

I've followed example found on the internet in the following steps:

1.

ALTER DATABASE <dbname> SET ENABLE_BROKER

2.

GRANT CREATE PROCEDURE TO <user>

GRANT CREATE QUEUE TO <user>

GRANT CREATE SERVICE TO <user>

GRANT SUBSCRIBE QUERY NOTIFICATIONS TO <user>

GRANT RECEIVE ON QueryNotificationErrorsQueue TO <user>

3.

ALTER DATABASE <dbname> SET TRUSTWORTHY ON

The application developers have also followed the same example setting up SQL cache and the connection code. When they start the application I can see the connection in the activity monitor but it has a status of SUSPENDED. I've also checked the view:

SELECT * FROM sys.dm_qn_subscriptions

There are no subscriptions setup I can however see that there is a new SP created. I tried to creating master keys as well but I'm not sure what the reasoning behind this is.

Is there anything else I need to take into consideration or check? When I change the data which they use for their select statement SQL profiler doesn't register anything (except the update). I have however seen this:

exec sp_executesql N'END CONVERSATION @p1; BEGIN CONVERSATION TIMER (''69e2c786-9d33-dc11-a751-0050568146e8'') TIMEOUT = 120; WAITFOR(RECEIVE TOP (1) message_type_name,
conversation_handle, cast(message_body AS XML) as message_body from [SqlQueryNotificationService-5fb25d04-6ef6-47e6-9406-854f15e16eb7]), TIMEOUT @p2;',N'@p2 int,@p1
uniqueidentifier',@p2=60000,@p1='BD98F6B4-A133-DC11-A751-0050568146E8'

This occurs when they refresh the page.

Any ideas?

Cheers!
