Report On Access Database Using Parameters In Query

Nov 16, 2007

Hi all,

I am trying to create a report against an Access 2003 database using the provider as follows: "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;"

Simple reports with no parameters are fine (e.g. using a text query of 'Select * from BERs'

But how do I pass in a report parameter to limit the results coming back ? I have only used stored procs in the past which work fine but how to achieved this using Access has me stumped.

An example query I need would be 'Select * from BERs WHERE Year = [Year?]'

Anyone got any pointers ?

Thanks in advance

Steve

URL Access Using Report Parameters Problem

Nov 9, 2007

Hi,

I want to be able to access a report from another report, so I am trying to get URL access to work using parameters.
I want the parameters area to be hidden and to pass the parameters in the URL.

When I use the following URL, the report is rendered but still with the parameters area shown, and nothing happens (i.e. the actual report is not run)

http://xxxx$xxxx/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fxxxxxx2%xxxxxx%2fxxxxxxx&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=HTML4.0&rcarameters=false&person=BLA&year=2002&ratio=C6

Can anyone spot what I´m doing wrong with this URL? Or is there some setting I need to turn on to allow URL access?

Thanks

Is There A Way To Loop Over Report Parameters, And Format Them Before Passing Them Onto The Query

Nov 13, 2007

Good morning all,

I have a report which is getting its parameters from an ASP.net page. My ASP developer wants to send in simple values, such as the list 1,2,3,4 for a parameter. However my report needs that list to look like [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[1], [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[2], [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[3], [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[4].

Is there any way, on the report services side, to capture an incoming report parameter, parse it, loop over the parsed values and format them?

I don't think there is, but I wanted to check before I go back to the developer and tell him he has to send in tuple lists.

Thanks,
Kathryn

RDLC Client Report And Query Parameters And Print Button

Feb 9, 2007

Hi, this is my first post here. I hope to be helpful trying to help and not only asking questions arround here. After I have my report ready I will share here the total experience from top to bottom! But for now, here's the issue:

I'm building a RDLC Repor on my ASP.Net VB web application. I added the .rdlc file to the application and created a table to show lines of data binded from a dataset. The thing is:

- The DataSet expects a parameter @intNumber, a identifier to get the correct data to display the correct report.

- I'm using ReportViewer to view the report, and by code I've passed a Report Parameter to the *.RDLC report with success, just like this:

Dim parms(0) As ReportParameter
parms(0) = New ReportParameter("intNumber", 37)
ReportViewer1.LocalReport.SetParameters(parms)

The present issue is the following:
I want to use that parameter sent to the report to be sent to the query of the DataSet as parameter to the query to return the data to fill the report. I've heard that this is not possible, just with report server...

Another issue is the print button, also heard that only can appear on report server...no way to display and work on RDLC reports?Very confused right now...these issues are stupid, MS tools should allow these operations, which are not efficient if this is not possibla on RDLC...

I can't get this to work from a SQL Function Criteria to an unbound control on the Access Data Project Report. In the Function Criteria, I enter @SelectDate. Report Server Throws ERROR [HY024] With Access Database

May 14, 2008

I've set up a report server on IIS on my local machine using SSRS 2005. All is well in the world--it shows up, and I can publish reports and have them display successfully.

However, I'm trying to publish a couple of reports based on an Access database--and this is where the problem lies. The reports run perfectly in Visual Studio, which is on the same machine as the report server. Thus, I can deduce that the ODBC connection to the Access database is set up properly. There are no errors on the report, which means that the reports are set up correctly. I've spent the last day researching the problem, but nothing I've tried thus far (from putting the Access database in a shared folder to changing security on the file and report server to rebuilding the reports from scratch) works. The exact error is given below, with the data source name changed:

An error has occurred during report processing.

Cannot create a connection to data source 'MyODBCDataSource.

ERROR [HY024] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. ERROR [IM006] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed ERROR [HY024] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.
Can anyone suggest something I missed? I'm stumped on this one.

Edit: Just to clarify, EVERYTHING is on my local machine--the web browser I'm viewing from, IIS, SSRS 2005, the Access database, the ODBC connection (in the System DSN), everything.

Passing Report Parameters To An SSRS 2005 Report Hosted In Sharepoint 2007

Nov 18, 2007

Here is a situation in my company:

We have an Office SharePoint 2007 site, we developed a couple of web parts and added them to our site. We used SQL Server Reporting services 2005 as our reporting solution. The reports are hosted on the report center and when we need a report, we open it by sending a URL requesting the report, passing the report parameters in the URL query string. So the report is filtered based on the parameters passed from the web parts.

But since best practices say that you should host reports directly under SharePoint, by configuring the reporting services to run in the SharePoint integrated mode. We followed the steps and installed SharePointRS and we finally succeeded to publish the reports to a SharePoint folder, but we had a limitation: we are unable to pass the report parameters internally to the report hosted in SharePoint. If we passed them in the query string as the report center case, SharePoint neglects them totally.
So the question is: how can I pass parameters internally between a SharePoint web part and a SQL server 2005 reporting services report hosted in SharePoint?

columns are **Level**  and              **Salesamount**.

Values are like

**[-]category**              **100**
    **[-]subcat**             **50**
         **product**          **30**

when i click on 100, parameters are passed & it open the detail report correctly, but when i click on 50,the values for subcat parameter is not getting values in detail report and same as the product also.

Here i used the expressions in parameter values

**pCategory**----iif(inscope(category),!fields.category.value,split(join(Parameters!category.value,","),","))

**psubcat**----iif(inscope(subcat),!fields.subcat.value,split(join(Parameters!subcat.value,","),","))

**pproduct**----iif(inscope(product),!fields.product.value,split(join(Parameters!product.value,","),","))

Is This Possible? Please Help (MS Access Query Of Sql Database)

Jul 20, 2005

I work for an organisation that uses a bespoke document imaging system, thedatabase of which is an MS sql server. We have MS Access and already use it for some querying of the database. The database comprises a large number of distinct cases, which aredifferentiated by case reference numbers, in one field (table?) of thedatabase. Each of these cases may have many documents associated with it,denoted by the reference number, and these documents may be "new", "pending"or "complete" shown in another data field. We need to know how many cases have work outstanding on them. Our problem is that our bespoke software will only count the number ofdocuments of each status, and not the cases. Is it possible to design an MS Access query which will count the number ofdifferent reference numbers which have any "new" documents associated, butwont count each case more than once?I am reasonably computer-savvy, I just don't know Access or SQL..If I know it is possible, I don't mind putting in the effort to find outhow. I just don't want to waste time barking up the wrong tree ;-)Of course any advice about how this would be achieved, such as pointers tothe right parts of the MS Access helpfiles, or to relevant websites would begreatly appreciated. Some quick code would be even better...Also, if there is any 3rd-party software which could easily do this, I needhelp discovering it...I have looked long and hard, but don't know enoughabout what I am looking for.Yours in hope..--anthonyberetPlease reply in the groups, as my Usenet email address is not working at themoment.

Pass The Parameters From Main Report To Drillthrough Report

Nov 28, 2007

Good morning, all

I have a really cool Budget report which has two matrices on it. One is used/visible if the user selects four levels of grouping, and one is used if the user selects only three levels of grouping. The four choices for grouping are four fields, Par, FERC, Point, and Resource.

Since grouping is optional, I need a way to pass the parameter for a field that is not grouped on from the main report to the drillthrough report. For example if the user chooses to group on all fields but Point, I need to pass the report parameter that was used by the main report for Point to the drillthrough report as a report parameter.

So, I tried testing the three grouping levels values and if none were equal to "Point" then pass in the parameter by putting the following expression in the Parameter Value box for the Point parameter on the Navigation tab of the datacell of the main report that is the drillthrough link:

=iif(
Parameters!GroupLevel1.Value <> "Point"
and
Parameters!GroupLevel2.Value<>"Point"
and
Parameters!GroupLevel3.Value<>"Point"
,
Join(Parameters!PNTPoint.Value,",")
,
Fields!Point.UniqueName
)

But this is not working; the drillthrough report shows a blank dropdown for the Point parameter and I have to manually set it. Does anyone see an error in the syntax of the iif statement?

Any references, links, resources or good clean jokes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kathryn

I have written a small app in VB2005 for a friend of mine and now I am trying to extract records for an access database with a specific month in the date field. What I am trying to get is all the entries for a month like July. I have this as my query:

SELECT ID, ShopDate, ShopText FROM Cost
WHERE DATEPART([month], ShopDate) = ?

When I run the preview, it is asking me to pass along an AnsiString as a parameter. I have tryed numbers, spelling out the month, numbers in single and double quotes, spelled out month in single and double quotes but it will not take anything that I type as a parameter for the query

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Denis
