Does anyone know how that I can get the reportbuilder.application to run on a client on the network. It seems that if I have to remote into the actual server to get the report builder to work would be pointless for users on the network. I get the 401 Unauthorized all the time. Any comments would help.
I've developed an application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 Express database. I created a DSN to connect to the database through ODBC. Currently, I am testing locally and everything works fine.
I would now like to install my application on another workstation and connect remotely to the database located on my development machine.
The client workstation does not have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on it because I would just like my application to connect remotely by creating the DSN and using ODBC. What I'm missing here are the database drivers. The "SQL Natice Client" is not available on this client workstation. How can I deploy the necessary drivers with my installation file so that I may create the required DSN name using the SQL Native Client driver?

Ok, so here's the catch. It works one 1 machine, a co-workers machine. I can login as any user and it'll work fine. But when I try it on any other machine, including my laptop, my desktop, my server, etc. I get that error. I've tried adjusting the IE Security settings, firewall settings, even tried different browsers. Here's some of the stuff installed on my machines:
Laptop -Windows XP Pro -ASP.NET Validation Tool -Visual Basic Express w/ SQL Server Express -.NET 1.1/2.0 Framework
Desktop -Windows XP Home -Visual Studio 2005 Professional -.NET 1.1/2.0 Framework
Server -Windows Server 2003 Enterprise -SQL Server 2005 -.NET 1.1/2.0 Framework
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Even our lead developer has no clue, it won't work on his machine either!
We have installed SQL Server 2005 reporting services and reportbuilder. On the local machine and local network we can start and use reportbuilder perfectly.
We are using ISA server for security. When we get around ISA it works fine, but when we have to get access via ISA, we get the error 'unauthorised', when starting the reportbuilder application.
The virtual folder 'reportbuilder' is configured in IIS for Anonymous access, the report en reportserver virtual folder, we need basis authentication.
I'm getting errors in EM when trying to connect to one of my registered servers. When the Client Network utility is using TCP/IP as the default protocol I get:
A connection could not be established to xxxxx - General network error. Check your network documentation. ConnectionOpen (connect())...
But if I switch to use Named Pipes I connect just fine.
This worked just fine up until last week.. We're going through Tokenring to Ethernet conversions.. Is this a bigger network issue?
i am trying to run a data transformation service from my win 98 machine running the sql7 server client. i keep getting the error 'general network error'
it used to work before but doen't anymore. any ideas?
Is there an INF file or a registry entry for the client network utility that I can move from machine to machine? I hate having to re-enter all of my SQL servers and alias' every time I install Tools on a new machine...Any help is greatly appreciated!!
I'm having to move workstations and was wondering if anybody knew a quick way to move all the alias's from your client network utility from one workstation to another.
1) I am getting back into SQL more than before, in my new job. I need to find the service pack installed on the clients who have the Client Network Utility installed. I do not remember how to do this.
2) Running 'Select @@VERSION' on the server returns 7.00.1063 but does not indicate the service pack. Does this still mean sp4 has been installed?
I'm trying to ensure we'll all up to date since our dual 700 procs are acting eratic...jumps between 10 - 95% or so.
Server info:
NT Server SP6 SQL 7.0 2GB Ram 2 procs @ 700Mhz Roughly 80 network connections. No other programs running on server except Antivirus.
I'm sure this is rediculously simple, but I am totally new to sql. We are upgrading our practice management software to an edition which requires sql to be installed on our Win2003 file DC server and 18 client computers, all running xp-sp2. New software comes with an option to automatically install MSDE but I would like to try sql05 express instead, which they support if it is pre-installed on the server and all workstations. We meet all necessary sql05-exp requirements. After spending several hours online and downloading 05 books online, etc I beleive I understand how to set up the file server where the data resides, but I am now confused about what exactly I am to install on the client computers. Clients have .net 2.0 installed. I see no option to download specific "Client" software, just sql05 server express edition sp1, management studio express, and express edition toolkit sp1. Are you supposed to just run the server ed sp1 on each workstation, enable tcp/ip, and tell it to connect to the server's sql database, and if so, doesn't that leave a sql 'server' running on each workstation? Other documentation mentions installing the toolkit and connecting to the server, but I've found nothing which explains this simple procedure everyone must do, so I know I'm missing the obvious. Please help and Thanks.
I have a question regarding the nature of virtual sql servers, specificially what protocol is used to communicate to the server when a request is made by a client.
For example, if a scheduled job is run on the virtual sql server, what determines the protocol used (e.g. TCP/IP, named pipes etc.) by SQL Server agent? Is it the client network alias set up on the virtual server?
I am asking because currently the client aliases on some of our virtual sql servers are using named pipes and I think this is causing a problem with our backups.
I can't map other sql servers without creating alias with proper port number on client network utility. Other users using same version of the client tools, MMC, SQL DMF etc. I need to map 70 sql servers on using my client tools. Any help is appreciated.
Hi folks, I have an application designed in vb.net and it needs to Communicate with MS SQL 2005 database which resids on SERVER and The applicaton needs to run from Client PCs... When i install the Application on Server itself it works fine.... But when i Install it on any of the client Pcs it gives me the following error....
Unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly Microsoft.sqlserver.ConnectionInfo version 9.0.242.0 be installed in Global Assembly Cache (GAC) First.

Hello,I'm an absolute newbie when it comes to SQL. I was told that SQLserver does not function well on a WAN where network latency between, say, the SQL server and a front-end server is greater than 250ms.I can't find anything information supporting this claim online, so Iwas hoping someone here could tell me if this is true or not?Thank You!!
When using my Work laptop while at home, how can I log into an SQLServer Express 2005 database on a home server, using Windows Authentication, without having to VPN in and log onto the network at Work? If I VPN into work then I can connect to my home db just fine.
I have a laptop which I carry from work to home each day. I'm a Domain Admin at work so my network login name is DOMAINjoe. At home I have 5 PCs in a home network, WorkGroup is WORKGROUP. When I carry my laptop home I log in exactly as I do at work. All is fine. File sharing, printer sharing, & internet all work between my 5 PCs.
I installed SQLServer Express 2005 on a home PC I use as a server (Vista Business edition). Home server's name is STAR. I developed a database called AddressBk on my laptop (Visual Studio 2008) using my laptop's local copy of SQLServerExpress. App works fine. I copied the Db files onto my home server STAR. My user name on STAR is Joe2, so while logged onto Star as Joe2 I used Star's SQLServer Management Studio Express to connect the AddressBk db to Star's copy of SQLServer Express. All is fine.
Now if I use my LapTop on my home network and try to connect to AddressBk on STAR I get a connection error. I get the error whether connecting using SQLServer Management Studio Express or using Visual Studio 2008. The SQLServer Management Studio Express connection screen shows I'm connecting using Windows Authentication and my User Name is DOMAINjoe. I presume this is the problem as I can not add a user on Star with a Domain Name. Other PCs on my home network can connect to AddressBk db on Star without a problem. If my labtop VPNs into work then I can connect just fine.
Here is the connection string my App uses. Data Source=STARSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=AddressBk;Integrated Security=True;connection timeout=60
How can I connect to my db without having to VPN into work?
Maybe someone can help mewith this... Im running NT 4 SP5 on a compaq proliant 3000 server. Trying to create a DSN to connect with my remote SQL 7.0 server. When I click on the client configuration button (to set to TCPIP sockets), nothing happens. So now all DSN's default to named pipes...
I am writing a Windows Application which will be used by about 100 clients. (NT Authenticated)
The application is going to be used in a LAN enviroment. User who have access will download a VB.NET application from a web site.
Of course, I want to prevent any of the 100 users from using a tool such as Query Analysis or ODBC to connect directly to the database and modify data.
So, it appears the way to go is to the "Application Roles". For this to work, the application roll password has to be saved in the application to execute the sp_setapprole procedure.
Is there a way to secure this password? I am worried about a user somehow extracting the password from the application and connecting directly.
Am I on the right track here? Any ideas appreciated!
I need to develop fro my customer a WinForm application which will display a list of report name available fro my customer, who will be free to select the desire report to print. For that I was previously using Crystal report but as now I am in an environment where report services is included and can be used I have decide to test it and see if it cover my customer need.
I have use reporting service in one of my customer project but by dircetly accessing it through the ReportServer default interface but never from a WinFrom application.
How can I implemented the connection to reporting service, accessing report template and have access to print function as well as export to different format in my application ?
Is there any step by step procedure somewhere ? could not found
I am currently modifying an existing application (which uses OLE DB Consumer Templates to access a remote SQL db) to utilize SQL Native Client instead. Does anyone have any experience making this change? Am I correct in my assumption that all I have to do is: change my included headers from 'sqloledb.h' to 'sqlncli.h' and change CLSID_SQLOLEDB to CLSID_SQLNCLI? I am still including the 'atldbcli.h' header and therefore still using the OLE DB Consumer Templates. Can I continue to use the Consumer Templates along with SQL Native Client?
So I am trying to work out the difference between today's date (GETDATE()) and a Target Date in a specific table (targetdate)
When I use the DATEDIFF function it is including non working days in the calculation (weekends and bank holidays). Although our date calandar table provided to us from a third party supplier will tell you the weekends, it does not tell you the bank holidays.
Luckily there is another table in the database called - ih_non_work_days.
The format of the date is "2014-12-25 00:00:00.000" for example in that table.
How do I using my "targetdate" and today's date calculate in days the differance - excluding the dates that exist in the ih_non_work_days database?
So for now my basic script looks like -
SELECT com.comm_reference AS 'Referance' ,com.current_task_target_date AS 'TargetDate' , DATEDIFF(D,com.current_task_target_date,GETDATE()) AS 'Incorrect Date Calculation' FROM [dbo].[em_communication] as com
Primary platform is XP as client side and 2003 as server.
When I press F5 in order to see my report from IE appears this error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Cannot create a connection to data source 'SQL1.BDADMIN'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection) For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
However, preview button works properly and data are showed. Let me know where am I failing.
I want to deploy my database application to my client's computer. My application uses SQL Server 2014. My client has to run that software on a single PC. I was looking to download a lightweight version of SQL Server that can fulfill my requirements, so when I was looking for SQL Server downloads, I saw these files there, which file should I use in my situation
We have a small accounting application which is currently based using DBASE database. We need to change the DB and considering SQL Express. However, is some one can clarify following, it would be very helpful:
1) Application is used mostly by standalone non-technical users. There are cases where more than one user will need to connect to DB.
2) We need to ensure that user can not modify database outside of our application. This is needed to ensure database does not get currpted or passwords lost and then no one can open the database.
3) Installation needs to be simple without providing any options to users except where to install database or point to already installed DB in case its a network environment where 2-3 users can be working on the same database.
4) Application is usually installed on normal desktop machines. So, DB should not load the PC heavily.
Please advice if SQL Express is the right direction even with these constraints? What are the other alternatives? We are open to have a small consulting project as well with someone who can guide us through these issues. Email to contact is rkabra101@yahoo.com
I need some advise/help how to deploy a small sql server compact 3.5 database on networkshare where about 8 people have access to it(install de client ) and can modify the database with aprox 3000 records. I'm using visual basic 2008 and created a compact database and filled it with one table of an export of an access database done with data port console. And created a new windows forms application and saved the project. Publish is not the problem but how too set it up...... There is not much info to find on how to get a sql server 3.5 database running on a network share. Who can help ???
I am not sure if this is the right folder to post, but currently I'm considering using Flash as an interface, the application at www.mobik.com seems impressive, simple and sweet. But I'm wondering if I can build desktop application with flash and SQL2005 as backend for all the processing. at the same time, the flash shall be getting updates from a server. Possible?
I tried to create a simple application based on the Sql Server CE samples and, as is typical when I play with databases, the program failed. In this case it failed to even load. The program has a form and a data source that I dropped onto the form. When I run the program the program breaks at this line:
Code Snippetthis._connection = new global::System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeConnection();
The error is:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.DllNotFoundException' occurred in System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll Additional information: Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)
My first attempt at 'fixing' this was simply to copy the requisite DLLs to my bindebug folder. I found the DLLs here: C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server Compact Editionv3.5 and copied these - sqlcecompact35.dll, sqlceca35.dll, sqlceme35.dll, sqlceoledb35.dll, sqlceqp35.dll and sqlcese35.dll, sqlceer35EN.dll - to my bindebug folder.
Now instead of the first error, I get this error:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.BadImageFormatException' occurred in System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll Additional information: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)
I am running Vista Business (x64) and using (the desktop version of) Sql Server Compact Edition 3.5 with Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition. The test 'program' is written in C#. (Incidentally I can play with the database with no problems in Visual Studio 2008's server explorer. I can look at data, add data, etc.)
