ReportServer Service Terminated Unexpectedly

Nov 14, 2007

I have been looking for some information regarding an error I have gotten several times on my production SQL Server 2000 box. Operating System is Windows Server 2003. The Reporting Services version is 8.00.878.00

Error is as follows:
The ReportServer service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 3 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The service restarts normally, or at least seems to, and Reporting Services work with no other issues. Received the error this morning (11/14); last time was on 10/31.

What can I do to prevent this from happening?

Thanks,
Cecily

SSRS WEB Farm ReportServer Service

Jun 28, 2007

Server Software

SQL Server 2000 (all sps up to date)

SSRS 2000 (all sps up to date)

Scenario:

1 - SSRS + SQL2000 Database server

2 - Web servers

We have installed SSRS on 2 web servers that are acting as a web farm for a central Report Server.

After we installed SSRS on the 2 web servers the scheduled reports on the central Report Server stopped working.

We tried disabling the ReportServer service on the web servers and then the scheduled reports began to work again.

Why would the ReportServer service on the 2 web servers interfere with the central Report Server?

Can the web servers be used to load balance the scheduled reports?

Any advice would be appreciated.

ReportServer.asmx Contacts Web Service To Retrieve Dataset As ANONYMOUS, Report.asmx Does Not

May 14, 2007

Dear SQL Server Reporting Services gurus,

Before I begin describing our problem, let me first start off with a description of our environment and current configuration.

Background/Configuration Specs

We have SQL Server Reporting Services running on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, Service Pack 1 server. It is configured so that the Reports and ReportServer virtual directories run under a sql server domain account.

The datasets for our reports are xml datasets returned from calling a web service on a second IIS server, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, Service Pack 1. The web service runs under a service account and is not set to impersonate the user. The web service contacts a database located on the same server as reporting services to retrieve the data. So, it should receive the request, login to the database it is trying to access using the service account, and return the dataset.

We are programatically accessing reports via a client application, specifying the virtual directory via the reportserver url (e.g. http:\hostname\reportserver\virtual directory path\report name).

Kerberos is enabled on both the sql box and the iis box with constrained delegation allow the sql account access to the iis box.

Problem

When I try to browse to the report from Report Manager in IE, (http:\hostname\Reports\...etc) I am able to successfully view the report.

When I try to view the report in the client app, (http:\hostname\reportserver\...etc.) the report fails.

Looking at the iis logs, it appears that in the first case, the web service is receiving the request from the sql server domain account. In the second case, it appears that the web service is receiving the request from an anonymous login.

Questions

What exactly is the difference between rendering/viewing a report via ReportManager versus programatically via ReportServer?

Is there any configuration we need to be aware of when configuring ReportServer?

Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

If you guys any solution for this please let me know.
I was wondering could this be a scale-out deployment issue ?

I also get the error when setting up the DataBase Setup :
Although saving the database connection info succeeded the The report server cannot access internal info about this deployment to determine whetherthe current con fig is valid for this editionThis could be a scale-out deployment and that the feature is not supported by this editionTo continue use a diff report server database or remove the encription keys

Query Bringing Back Too Many Records

May 1, 2015

I'm written a query to pull adjustments made on customer accounts, and I am attempting to pull in the payment associated with the adjustments. I'm using a single account to test my query and somewhere in my final output select statement I'm doing something that is bringing me back more records than I want. The code I have written is:

IF OBJECT_ID('TEMPDB..#TMP1O') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE #TMP1O

select a.batch
,a.acctcorp
,a.house
,a.cust
--,RIGHT (REPLICATE ('0',5) + CONVERT(VARCHAR(5),A.acctcorp),5) +

[Code] ....

I've tried making changes within my where statement and parameters, but so far I've come up emtpy.

Problems Bringing Up Project REAL

Mar 19, 2007

Most of the installation went well. I got to the point of attaching the
source database, but had problems attching the warehouse database:

Database 'REAL_Warehouse_Sample_V6' cannot be started in this edition
of SQL Server because it contains a partition function 'pf_Range_Fact'.
Only Enterprise edition of SQL Server supports partitioning.

I am running standard edition at mey development workstation, the only
one we have running. I do not necessarily need to see partitioning
working. But sounds like I will need to install Enterprise edition at
my development computer to go down this path of discovery? Anyone been
able to do otherwise?

Is there any way to get in and look at the stored procedures at least, or schemas?

Even after going back, it was not clear to me from the prerequisit list that Enterprise edition was required for this.

Error Output Is Bringing Too Many Rows With It

May 10, 2007

I've got a Derived Columns component as part of a data flow. On this I've set the error output for my columns to Redirect Row in all cases. I've set a data watcher on the error output and then ran the package.

There are several rows which I'm expecting to fail - about 3 of them. These fail but there are also another 697 which seem to have no problem. So I fixed one of the problem columns in the source data and then re-ran the package. I only updated one row in the source so this row no longer appeared in the error output, but neither did several hundred of the other rows.

Is it possible that the error output has been tripped for that one row but for some reason it sends several hundred more rows? The ids on these additional rows follow on from the erroneous row, and when I fix that row the rows following it no longer appear in the error output.

Bringing Data Into A Flat File

Apr 18, 2007

I am trying to bring in the result fo a query to a flat file. The source and destination connections are oK, the mapping is also correct. However I get the following error during execution:

[Flat File Destination [507]] Error: No column was specified to allow the component to advance through the file.

followed by this:

[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "Flat File Destination" (507) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC02020F0.

What is the fix?

Only Bringing In Select Columns From A Text File

Dec 2, 2004

Hi all,

I have some bad data that i'm trying to do a workaround for. I have a comma delimited text file with a column which contains a few records that has, gasp, a comma in it. Thus creating an extra column and pushing out NULL values in an empty column that isn't recognized by my DTS package.
Can i fix this?

And if I'm correct in my assumption that I can't, how do I import only the fields preceding the bad data field? When i attempt to do that, I get the following message

'Too many columns found in the current row; non white-spaced characters found after the last defined column's data.'

Blindman, you probably know exactly what to do, huh?

This information shows up in the Messages tab; however, what is displayed in the Results tab is (No column name) 40. From where the 40 is being generated. I have tried restarting SSMS 2012, restarting my computer, turning NOCOUNT on and off.

"UPDATE TableA
SET Supervisor = 'A123'
WHERE PersonnelNumber = 'B456'"

How Can I Rename My ReportServer Databases?

Oct 12, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to move my Reporting Services databases from one server to another one. On the old server there was only a single instance so my databases were named ReportServer & ReportServerTempDB. On my new server I have multiple instances and, after installation (which I didn't perform), the databases on the new server are ReportServer$SQL_VS11 & ReportServer$SQL_VS11TempDB.

I was able to successfully restore both databases and rename them at the time of restore and also restore my encryption key but now when I try to view one of the reports I'm given the error:

Invalid object name 'ReportServerTempDB.dbo.PersistedStream'.

I found this article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159093.aspx

It states that "This error occurs because the ReportServerTempdb name is stored internally and used by stored procedures to perform internal operations. Renaming the temporary database will prevent the stored procedures from working properly."

This leads me to believe that what I'm attempting to do is not possible. I asked the developer in charge of the reports if we could simply republish but he informed me that we would lose history in this case. I may have to simply leave the old database names alone which would be inconsistent with our corporate naming schemes. Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Thanks,
Pat Brickson

ReportServer DB And ReportServerTempDB Databases

Feb 9, 2007

Hi all,

Is it possible to cleanup ReportServer DB and ReportServerTempDB by setting the time interval ? For example, I want data in these two dbs to be deleted automatically after 5 or 10 minutes. How can I do that because as new reports are added and executed data goes on increasing in very short time and hurts performance.

Thanks,

Prashant

Sharepoint Needed For ReportServer?

May 9, 2007

Dears,

I have XP Professional and my IIS is installed and works fine because i can browse to http://localhost.

But when I go to http://localhost/ReportServer, I get the error below:

"Server Application Unavailable" The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request. Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur."I've struggled almost a day with it, researched on the internet and so on.... Is it possible that this is because I don't have Sharepoint Services installed????

And SharePoint services is not standard in Windows XP Professional????
So I can not use the ReportServer????
