Reporting Services 2005 - Giving Access To All AD-users For A Specific Folder
Jan 21, 2008
I am in a project where we are using a vanillla Reporting Services 2005 with the builtin report portal. No sharepoint integration yet.
We have successful deployments where we limit access to different folders based on AD-accounts and groups. In this particular case I have a folder for which I would like to allow access to all AD-users within the entire company.
So basically I know how to limit access but I don't know how to enable access for everyone. Is there a simple way to do it? I have googled and search mshelp but I couldn't find anything. I will admit to the search being quite quick but as usual time is short.

I have an archival process on a large database that runs once a month.At the beginning of the process the triggers and indexes on thetables whose data is moved are dropped, the data is moved and then thetriggers and indexes are recreated at the end. This produces amassive improvement in performance.The problem is the process is supposed to run on users accounts (thatsthe way the front-end is set up) and they don't have the neccessarypermissions to drop & create triggers & indexes. I can't see any wayto give them permissions only on specific tables or triggers/indexes.Nor does giving them permissions to the stored procedures that do thedropping & re-creating work, DDL permissions don't seem to beinherited the way they are with tables.Is blanket rights to drop & create objects through the db_ddladminrole the only way users can get rights?Thanks,K Finegan

Hi there, I have the following setup in the report manager:
Root
|_ Sales
|_ Sales Export
|_ Marketing
|_ Production
|_ etc...
Now, I know that I can access each folder (f.e. Sales) by directly putting it into the URL. Is there a possibility to enable every user to the root folder and then denying access on specific folders? F.e.: Our Head of Sales should be able to navigate to the root folder and then dcecide whether he wants to enter the Sales or the Sales Export folder.
Is this possible? I tried a few things, but nothing works.
Thanks in advance!

I have a question about ssrs security. In report manager I have set a list of users as browsers, and the builtin administrators are content manager in the parent folder where reports are. A user that is not an administrator and neither a user I added, has access to reports.
I'm thinking this person is having access because the data source of the reports use a administrator account to connect to the analysis services  using the option Credentials stored securely in the report server with the 2 checkboxes marked (use as windows credentials when connecting to the data source and impersonate the authenticated user).
I simply marked this option because SSRS is in 1 server and SSAS in other and I think kerberos need to be configured and I haven't looked into it, but I think the report access is separated from the data source.

I'm sure there's a way to do this, but I can't figure it out. I want to see if a field has a semi-colon in it and if it does display one thing, if not display another. But it doesn't just have a semicolon. It's a list of names, and if there is more than one name there will be a semi-colon between them.
I was hoping this would work:
=IIF(Fields!ID.Value LIKE "%;%", "yes", "no")
but it doesn't... I'm looking for something like:
=IIF(Fields!ID.Value CONTAINS ";", "yes", "no")
Any ideas?

We have an existing SSRS server, and have just created a new child domain. We'll be migrating users from the parent to the child, and want to add the users of that new domain with access to SSRS. In the parent domain they are able to access, but after migration with the child domain account, they cannot.
I have added the group CHILDDomain Users with a system user role on SSRS, and PARENTDomain Users was already there.
Is there any additional step I should/could take to get this active?

I am trying to import Access reports using Visual Studio 2005 and Access 2007. SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services is also installed. I select Reports in the Solution Explorer and then Import Reports... Microsoft Access and browse to my Access database. After I select the database I see it open briefly as if it is trying to import the reports but then Access quickly closes and a error pops up: "You already have the database open." I have checked and double checked and the database is not open. I have even tried several different databases and the same errror occurs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 (SSRS) is installed on Vista Ultimate.
I cannot access to the http://localhost/ReportServer page. IE posts an internal error HTTP 500.0 (after IE required a Windows account).
All the configurations of Reporting Services are OK. In the Log file, there is nothing: the Web Services does not seem to be launched.
By continuing the investigations in IIS 7 (activation of the €œRules of follow-up of the requests having failed€?, I found the error following:
IIS Trace Detail Highlights
No. EventName Details Time
53. MODULE_SET_RESPONSE_ERROR_STATUS Warning
ModuleName="IsapiModule", Notification="EXECUTE_REQUEST_HANDLER", HttpStatus="500", HttpReason="Internal Server Error", HttpSubStatus="0", ErrorCode="Syntaxe du nom de fichier, de répertoire ou de volume incorrecte. (0x8007007b)", ConfigExceptionInfo="" 09:02:33.716
Translation of the french sentence: ErrorCode="Incorrect syntax of the file name, the directory or the volume."
I made a full research on Internet and in the documentation at my disposal and I did not find anything which can advance me towards a beginning of solution€¦
Thank you with all for the assistance which you will be able to bring to me.

Hi everyone!
I have a problem regarding the generation of report using SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services). As I've read from other forums, the said service need access to the Windows temp folder, which by default, is found in C:WINDOWSTemp. The said path is found in either the TMP or the TEMP environment variable.This means that there should be sufficient access to this folder, in order for SSRS to properly generate the report. The problem is that my client, for security reasons, does not want to grant special rights to this folder, using the ASP.NET account. Is there any way that we can change location of the temporary folder being used by SSRS without having to change the value of the TMP and TEMP environment variables? thanks in advance

We have a SQL 2012 SSRS instance. We need to modify the permissions on one of the reporting folders. I went to the Security setting of the folder, clicked "New role assignment", then entered a group name into the box and selected desired permission ("Browser" in this case).
However this always fails with the same error: "The user or group name 'BUILTINBUILTIN' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName)"
I always get the same error no matter if I enter user or group, domain or local. And it always says BUILTINBUILTIN. I've tried changing the SSRS service account to a domain account (it was a local one), but that didn't work.

I am trying to create a basic report in SSRS, with 6 columns but then we receive an excel spreadsheet with different account numbers daily and I am requested to create a report based on those account numbers. so how can I create a shared folder for the users to drop their excel spreadsheet there and make my SSRS only filter the result set based only on those account numbers?

Example
Report "Inventory Value" in folder Accounting has the Item Number field set to navigate to the report "Item Details"stored in folder Linked Reports
Paths
//ReportServer/Accounting/Inventory_Value
//ReportServer/Linked_Reports/Item_Details
Is there a way to do this?

There's a new SSRS 2012 environment which was setup with My Reports folder to each user enabled. I know I'm supposed to see a Users Folder in the Report Manager root, I'm setup as a system administrator (under Site Settings) and also have content manager rights in the root directory and I still don't see the "Users Folders" ...the only way I can see that is if they give me admin rights in the server SSRS is installed. What am I missing here, is this supposed to be like that?

hi alli've got two tables called "webusers" (id, name, fk_country) and "countries" (id, name)
at the meantime, i've a search-page where i can fill a form to search users. in the dropdown to select the country i included an option which is called "all countries".
now the problem is: how can i make a stored procedure that makes a restriction to the fk_country depending on the submitted fk_country parameter?it should be something like
SELECT * FROM webusers(if @fk_country > 0, which is the value for "all countries"){ WHERE fk_country = @fk_country}
who has an idea how to solve this problem?

I am very early on in developing a website to track issues with projects which is tied to a SQL database. I have my Projects Table, my Users Table, and am creating a third table to track issues. I'm wondering what is the best way to assign specific users to specific data/projects. The user should only be able to view & update the projects assigned to him. He should not be able to see other projects. What is the best way to assign projects/data to the users to make sure they are only viewing their data?

2. I want to only show the records where a userID is a member of a specific AD group,
I'm not allowed to use a linked server. I was able to make a datasource in SSDT that connects to AD, but I don't know where to begin with the dataset expression in the SSRS report.

I have an issue as to where only some reports are visible within Report Viewer url. But if I navigate to the path of the rdl's there are many more present that should be visible through Report Viewer. The client was recently upgraded, and I seem to have all out of box roles and permission levels yet can only see some of those reports, as if some were manually copied to this folder location at a later point and perhaps some user job needs to be run to reflect import those additional rdl's?

We run std 2008.  In my ssrs log I see this for one of our most critical reports...
library!ReportServer_0-64!2244!07/07/2015-08:24:53:: Call to GetPermissionsAction(/somedirectory/somedirectory1).... which I assume is an indication of a report starting to render by first checking permissions.
Around the time my user says he still saw the revolving arrow and he stopped the report because he felt it was running too long, I see...
webserver!ReportServer_0-64!1dbc!07/07/2015-08:54:44:: i INFO: Processed report. Report='/somedirectory/somedirectory1/importantreport', Stream=''
How can it be true that he stopped it and ssrs reports that it processed the report?
About 4 minutes later I see this entry in the log...
webserver!ReportServer_0-64!15e4!07/07/2015-08:58:34:: i INFO: Processed report. Report='/somedirectory/somedirectory1/importantreport', Stream=''
Which processed report message is right? Could there be multiples cuz of subreports? I see a number of errors and exceptions around these same times but do not know how to tie either to a specific report. Is there a way?
