Apr 18, 2015

I have a table with one of the column(EmpHiredate) datatype is char(10). It has value like "20141023". I need to display this value as date format(dd/mm/yyyy) in report. Following methods i tried in textbox expression but no luck.

=Format(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,"dd/MM/yyyy")
=Cdate(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value)

Error:[rsRuntimeErrorInExpression] The Value expression for the textrun ‘EmpHireDate.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ contains an error: Conversion from string "20041023  " to type 'Date' is not valid.

Is it possible to convert string to date using SSRS textbox expression ?

I have a column as 'arrived_date' value '13:45' etc and while trying to load data i am getting error as "data conversion failed ,truncation may occur while loading data". In flat file connection this column datatype is string but in my table datatype is as time(). There is a error with conversion. I tried to change data type in advanced editor but no use. Date Data Type-Conversion Error.

Jun 22, 2006

Dear friends,

I am struggling to insert a date value in "dd-mm-yyyy" format to SQL server table having datatype as Date/Time.

Regional date setting for Server and Local systems are in dd-mm-yyyy format.

I am using following code

Dim DT As String
DT = Now()
DT = Format(DT, "MM/DD/YYYY")

for the inserting into table using command

ins_comm.CommandText = " INSERT INTO CARD (doe) values("& DT &")"

Procedure will end without any error ,but stored value for the date feild will be garbage value like 1900-01-01.

But if i used mm-dd-yyyy format ,it will get inserted.

What could be the reason,How I can save value in dd-mm-yyyy or dd-mm-yy format

Please help!!!

Conversion Failed When Converting Character String To Smalldatetime Data Type

Oct 3, 2007

I am running the following query:
 select distinct hqvend, hqvprd,fprod,idesc,ilead,sum(cast(fqty as int) )as fqty, (cast(hqvend as varchar(5))+'/'+ltrim(rtrim(fprod))+'/'+cast(ilead as varchar(3))) as Keydata,'L1/'+rtrim(fprod) as LocPartno from tblkfpl01 inner join hqtl01 on (fprod=hqprod) inner join iiml01 on (hqvend=ivend and hqprod=iprod) where  cast(cast(hqeff as varchar(8)) as smalldatetime) <= (Select CONVERT(varchar(8), getdate(), 1)) and  cast(HQDIS as varchar(8)) >= (Select CONVERT(varchar(8), getdate(), 1))  and hqvend like '134%' group by hqvend,fprod,hqvprd,idesc,ilead   order by hqvend,fprod
The bold sections are giving me the error message. The query works as written above, butis only evaluating on one date, contained in hqeff. However, when I try to modify the second date, HQDIS, by casting it the same way as the one before it:
 select distinct hqvend, hqvprd,fprod,idesc,ilead,sum(cast(fqty as int) )as fqty, (cast(hqvend as varchar(5))+'/'+ltrim(rtrim(fprod))+'/'+cast(ilead as varchar(3))) as Keydata,'L1/'+rtrim(fprod) as LocPartno from tblkfpl01 inner join hqtl01 on (fprod=hqprod) inner join iiml01 on (hqvend=ivend and hqprod=iprod) where  cast(cast(hqeff as varchar(8)) as smalldatetime) <= (Select CONVERT(varchar(8), getdate(), 1)) and  cast(cast(HQDIS as varchar(8)) as smalldatetime) >= (Select CONVERT(varchar(8), getdate(), 1))  and hqvend like '134%' group by hqvend,fprod,hqvprd,idesc,ilead   order by hqvend,fprod
I get the error message. I need to select based on both dates (hqeff AND HQDIS), but cannot seem to be able to it.... Both fields are of type Dedimal, with a length of 8, and dates stored in them look like: 20071003 (YYYYMMDD).
Any suggestions?

DTS String To Date Conversion Problem

Jun 9, 2006

Hi;

I am attempting to import records from a text file.

This text file is a report file created by a mainframe routine, if this makes any difference.

When I attempt to transform the file via a VB Script it craps out when I use
the CDate(). An example of the script:

Destination("A_Date") = CDate(Source("Column1").

Some of the columns in the text file contain the string value "(Null)" and
some rows have that column containing a "01/05/06".

I have tried testing for the the string value "(Null)" but that doesn't solve my problem.

Are there any other VB functions that I could use ?

Thanks,

Conversion From String To Date In SSIS

Apr 1, 2008

I have been trying to read a flat file which has a birthdate field. The field is string and the format is "011594". I have been trying to convert it to a date field in the following format "01/15/1994". Using the forum I was able to write the following expression but I am still keep getting error messages.

I also noticed few records are missing birthdate and few do not have the complete birthdate which means some birthdates are missing year and some are missing month. For example, some are completely missing and some are partially missing, like " " or "0312 ". Could this be the reason I was getting error message since the following expression does not include null and incomplete date of birth?

(DT_DBDATE)(SUBSTRING([DateofBirth] ,1,2) + "/" + SUBSTRING([DateofBirth] ,3,2) + "/" + SUBSTRING([DateofBirth] ,5,2))

Here are the error messages:

Reporting Services :: Value Expression For Text Box Specifies A Scope That Is Not Valid For Nested Aggregate

Apr 22, 2015

I'm trying to sum a column in a report. in Most columns I can just wrap the row level expression with "Sum()" and it works. However, I have run into a few that give the following error. The Value expression for the text box ‘Textbox241’ specifies a scope that is not valid for a nested aggregate.  The scope must be the same name of the scope specified by the outer aggregate or the name of a group or data region that is contained in the scope specified by the outer aggregate.Here is my row level expression that works.

=Code.Divide(sum(Fields!WeeklyUnits.Value),sum(Fields!EstUnits.Value))
*
(Code.Divide(sum(Fields!EstHours.Value),sum(Fields!EstHours.Value,"Job")))

Here is my attempt to Sum the row level for the footer area.

Month ('jan','feb',...) String To Date Conversion Fails

Oct 2, 2006

I use the derived column to convert a string date from a flat file like this: "Jan 02 2005" into a datetime.
I have seen in the forum to use: (DT_DATE)(SUBSTRING(mydate,5,2) + "-" + SUBSTRING(mydate,1,3) + "-" + SUBSTRING(mydate,8,4))
However, even if it produces a string like '02-Jan-2005', the following cast to dt_date fails.
I have also tried inverting month and day, year/month/day but all with the same result:

Derived Column [73]]
Error: The component "Derived Column" failed because error code
0xC0049064 occurred, and the error row disposition on "output column"...

I think the cast fails bacause of the month format. Therefore the only solution would be to code in in a lookup table Jan, 01 | Feb, 02 |... ????

Hi,I'm trying to concatenate a Description (nchar(100)) and Date(datetime) as Description and my initial effort was just"...description+' '+open_date as description..." which throws a date/string conversion error; finally came up with a working string belowbut don't think it's the optimal way to do this - any suggestions?select (rtrim(description)+''+rtrim(convert(char(2),datepart(mm,open_date)))+'/'+convert(char(2),datepart(dd,open_date))+'/'+convert(char(4),datepart(yyyy,open_date))) as description fromoncd_opportunity where opportunity_id=?open_date is not a required field at the db level, but it is requiredon the form so it should not be null as a rule.
