Sep 2, 2015
I have SQL 2008 R2 instance and would like to install SSRS 2012. I have below query related to database configuration...Is there any performance impact while using SQL 2008R2 instance?Once configured SSRS database on 2008 R2, Will there any issue if we move our SQL instance from 2008R2 to SQL 2012 in future?

I have installed SSRS 2012 Standard Edition in our DR site. We replicate over the reporting server databases over from our Production server via storage replication. It is on a different server than the reporting service. When I configure the SSRS in DR it is still seeing the SSRS from our Production server and tries to make it a scale out deployment which it is obviously not allowed to be because of the edition. Is there something in the database itself I need to change so it doesn't think the production server is still connecting?

Yesterday, literally I was banging my head to the wall, kept getting this error:
A Connection could not be established with the information provided. Hit OK to change your connection settings.
Invalid object name 'sysdatabases'.
I uninstall and re-install back the reporting services couple times and I kept getting the same error.
I have 2 instances of SQL Server on the same Server:
SQL Server 2000
SQL Server 2005
The 2 instances work side by side, I was wondering if this causing the error.
Can anyone help out with this problem?
Thanks - John

Wondering if I could get some feedback from 'you All' on how you use the Reporting Services configuration files.
Specifically, I'm interested in -
1) Have you ever made changes to the configuration files? (Yes/No; if Yes - how often?)
2) What if any operations you commonly do in the files? (list)
3) Do you script or otherwise have automated solutions for updating these files? (Yes/No; if Yes - in what scenarios; if No - did you try to?)
Any other feedback about the configuration files is also welcome.
Thanks,
-Lukasz

Hello all
I am trying to configure reporting services using the Configuration Tool. I get all checks green except for Encryption Keys (Blue), Initialization (Grey), and Email Settings and Execution Account (both Yellow). I am not too worried about the yellow and blue ones because I have read that other people have the same, but I was wondering how to make Initialization available to configure. I am running SQL Server 2005 - Standard Edition.
Thanks for the help,
S.R.

Hi All -
I am trying to configure reporting services on virtual machine but unable to succeed. I never touched this topic before SQL Server 2005. The left hand side options in Reporting Services Configuration Manager such as Server Status, Virtual Directories, Web Identity works fine but it fails in Database Setup section
Here are the details:
AppServer: SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services & Client components build# 2153 (with SP1 & SP1 hotfix)
going to apply SP2 and Add-on component after the configuration
DBServer: SQL Server 2005 Database Services & Client components build# 2153 (with SP1 & SP1 hotfix)
OS: Windows 2003 Server with SP1
IIS version on AppServer: 6
I have SQL 2005 Reporting services and 2005 Database Engine on 2 different machines.
Here is the error message I am receiving when I try to apply the script in "Database Setup" section of Reporting Services Configuration Manager
It did not log any errors in SQL Server however it shows a warning message in Event Log
Event Log message - "The RSReportServer.config file has been modified."
Configuration Manager error message - It shows me "Create a Grants Rights Script" task failed
"System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)

at ReportServicesConfigUI.Panels.DatabaseSetupPanel.SetDatabaseConnectionTask(String connectionString, String server, String database, ConfigurationCredentialsType credsType, String account, String password, Boolean upgrade, String dbVersion)"
I have captured the screenshot, let me know if I can send this.
One of my friends suggested the following and I have tried the first option but could not work - Option I)
Our account that is used for database connection should have
1) public and RSExecRole roles for the ReportServerDatabase.
2) RSExecRole roles for the master, msdb , and ReportServerTempDB databases.
Else - Option II)
we can run the Reporting Service Windows Service under the local System Account and then the credentials type for the database set up would be Service credentials. This way we would have more permission.
Did anyone face this problem? how should I resolve this?
Anyone have steps to follow as I feel of missing something in the configuration steps?
Any information/ suggestions/ pointer on this are higly appreciated.
Thanks in advance !!
-Satya

Hi,
I've installed SQL 2005 on a Windows 2003 R2 Server, I also installed another Web Server (Another Windows 2003 R2 Server) on a different machine.
I've installed the Reporting Services on the Web Server.
When I am trying to configure the report server, I successfully created the Virtual Directories, but when trying to do the "Database Setup" step, I am getting an error on the "Create a Grants Rights Script", with this message:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

at ReportServicesConfigUI.Panels.DatabaseSetupPanel.SetDatabaseConnectionTask(String connectionString, String server, String database, ConfigurationCredentialsType credsType, String account, String password, Boolean upgrade, String dbVersion)
As a result, I cannot run the reports nor get to the folder.aspx page on the manager side of the application.
I am getting this HTML msg:
The report server installation is not initialized. (rsReportServerNotActivated) (rsRPCError) Get Online Help
When installing the Reporing Server on the SQL Server machine, it works with no problems, and I am doing everything the same.
Would appreciate your help, I've been working on this for few days with no luck.
Thank you!

When I want to browse the report this error occured:

I installed 2K5 developer on my box. I was impressed with the Summary tab report functions and the reports available there. Then I ran the "Reporting services configuration" tool to get RS running, but now several of the summary reports are broken. There are several different error messages given in the summary window, depending on the report selected.
For example, the "server dashboard" now displays
Summary Unavailable
The information needed to display a summary page for the selected object is not available.
Error:
"sql_handle" is not a recognized table hints option. If it is intended as a parameter to a table-valued function, ensure that your database compatibility mode is set to 90.
The next two reports work, but the "Scheduler Health" report displays
Summary Unavailable
The information needed to display a summary page for the selected object is not available.
Error:
Incorrect syntax near '.'.
"Memory Consumption" works GREAT, but "Activity - All blocking transaction" shows:
Summary Unavailable
The information needed to display a summary page for the selected object is not available.
Error:
Incorrect syntax near '.'.
Incorrect syntax near '.'.
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'as'.
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'as'.
What could be the cause of such errors? Is there an "easy fix"? I wouldn't know how to "unconfigure" reporting services and have a feeling that wouldn't help anyway...

Hi,
I have problem during first configuration of Reporting Services from MS SQL 2005 Server Express with Advanced Services SP2. When I try to create new virtual directory I can see following messages:

After last message Windows reports that SQL Server 2005 Reporting Configuration Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close (and I can send report to Microsoft).
IIS shows that virtual directory under default web site was created.
Evenet viewer (application log) shows .NET Framework 2.0 error:

My environment:

all components are fresh new installations. The only additional configuration I've made was adding IWAM_<hostname> as WebServiceAccount, all other configuration is default.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to configure the permitted hosts setting for the Report Server. According to MSDN, the Syntax is:
<PermittedHosts>

<HostName>hotmail.com</HostName>
</PermittedHosts>
In case of having only one host, is the <HostName> tag mandatory? I was not able to find more information regarding the xsd on which the configuration file is based. To be more specific, is it possible to define the PermittedHost like this or will this result in an error?
<PermittedHosts>Adventure-Works.com</PermittedHosts>

InvalidArgument=Value of '1' is not valid for 'SelectedIndex'.
Parameter name: SelectedIndex "
I have tried re-installing the entire SQL server setup and this made no difference, I followed this by removing then reinstalling just the Report Service. Still nothing.
Any ideas as to what it is doing and how I should go about fixing it?

Although not totally related to this RS cat but since I'm using the query in Reporting Services perhaps I can get a work around from someone. I've created a Rolling 2 year 12 month comparison report that compare sales figures from current and previous years. The query works fine however the query fails to return 0's for no sales for a particular month with no records. Is there anyway I can return a 0 instead. As you can see I tried "isNull to no avail.
Query==========>
SELECT Customer.Country, MetaDates.Month, MetaDates.Year, isnull(SUM(Order_Line_Invoice.Sales),0) AS Sales, SUM(Order_Line_Invoice.Cost) AS Cost,
SUM(Order_Line_Invoice.Sales) - SUM(Order_Line_Invoice.Cost) AS GM, 'Current 12 Months' AS yearNum
FROM Order_Line_Invoice INNER JOIN
Customer ON Order_Line_Invoice.CustId = Customer.CustId INNER JOIN
MetaDates ON Order_Line_Invoice.InvoiceDate = MetaDates.Date LEFT OUTER JOIN
Product ON Order_Line_Invoice.ProdId = Product.ProdId
WHERE (Customer.country = @GroupByFieldFilter) and (Order_Line_Invoice.InvoiceDate BETWEEN dateadd(m, datediff(m, 0, DATEADD(month,-11,@EndDate) ), 0) AND @EndDate)
GROUP BY MetaDates.Year, MetaDates.Month, Customer.country
UNION
SELECT Customer.Country , MetaDates.Month, MetaDates.Year, isnull(SUM(Order_Line_Invoice.Sales),0) AS Sales, SUM(Order_Line_Invoice.Cost) AS Cost,
SUM(Order_Line_Invoice.Sales) - SUM(Order_Line_Invoice.Cost) AS GM, 'Previous 12 Months' AS yearNum
FROM Order_Line_Invoice INNER JOIN
Customer ON Order_Line_Invoice.CustId = Customer.CustId INNER JOIN
MetaDates ON Order_Line_Invoice.InvoiceDate = MetaDates.Date LEFT OUTER JOIN
Product ON Order_Line_Invoice.ProdId = Product.ProdId
WHERE (Customer.country = @GroupByFieldFilter) and (Order_Line_Invoice.InvoiceDate BETWEEN dateadd(m, datediff(m, 0, DATEADD(month,-23,@EndDate) ), 0) AND dateadd(m, datediff(m, 0, DATEADD(month,-11,@EndDate) ), -1))
GROUP BY MetaDates.Year, MetaDates.Month, Customer.country
order by MetaDates.Year, MetaDates.Month asc
End Query=========>
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a process that stores a machine status every 2 minutes in a bit field of an SQL database. Running = True, Stopped = False. I am trying to build a report that shows the percent run time every hour. This information would be the count of Trues divided by the total count for each hour. I can select and group the data on the hour but I can either count() the total number of readings or count() the number of readings where the status is true. How do I collect both pieces of information in the same data collection?
SELECT TOP (100)
Max(Time) As Time_M,
Count(Running) As Count_T
FROM Compact10
Group by DatePart(mm,Time), DatePart(dd,Time), DatePart(hh,time)
Order by DatePart(mm,Time) desc, DatePart(dd,Time) desc, DatePart(hh,time) desc

Hi all,
I need to change the default member of my Time dimension according to a parameter received by a report in Reporting Services. When I code the MDX query I can't seem to be able to begin my statement with an ALTER CUBE to set the default dimension. It seems I can only do a SELECT..FROM..WHERE query.
Does anyone know how to set the default member of a dimension in a report ??
Many thanks,
John
