SQL Reporting Services - Dynamic SQL Stored Procedures

May 7, 2004

Hi, all:

Kind of new to reporting services. I've been playing around with SQL Reporting Services and was wondering if anyone knows how to populate the fields from a dataset in the Report Designer from a stored procedure that uses dynamic SQL. I've had success with non-dynamic stored procedures and inline queries, but am unable to generate fields when the sp contains dynamic SQL. I've tried defining the fields manually, but when I execute the report I receive errors that the fields are undefined.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Aug 11, 2005

Hi all,

I want to use 2 stored procedures in one report, but I could not find what is the way of doing this. I searched this subject on the intrernet, and I found some solutions. However, they used stored procedures in one stored procedure and used in one report. This is not the thing which I want to do, I want only do using 2 stored procedures in one report at the same time.

Thanks, for now...

All My Stored Procedures Are Getting Created As System Procedures!

Nov 6, 2007

Using SQL 2005, SP2. All of a sudden, whenever I create any stored procedures in the master database, they get created as system stored procedures. Doesn't matter what I name them, and what they do.

For example, even this simple little guy:

CREATE PROCEDURE BOB

AS

PRINT 'BOB'

GO

Gets created as a system stored procedure.

Any ideas what would cause that and/or how to fix it?

Thanks,
Jason

Stored Procedures Getting Created As System

Nov 8, 2007

I need to create a stored procedure in the master database (yes, I know it's not that good of an idea). I'm working with SQL 2K5, SP2 Whenever I create it, it is marked as a system stored procedure no matter what I name it, what schema I put it in, or what user I use to create it (sysadmin or minimal permissions).

As soon as I create it, if I do any of the following, I can see it to be a system stored procedure and not a regular user sp.

1) SELECT * FROM sys.objects where is_ms_shipped = 1
2) SELECT * FROM sys.procedures where is_ms_shipped = 1
3) Looking in SSMS... There is a special folder for system stored procedures in SSMS, and mine is in there.

At least in my case, the only thing it hurts is that you have to be a sysadmin to execute that stored procedure (and I need to have a non sysadmin be able to execute it). Other than that, it executes normally when run by a sysadmin.

Any suggestions on why this is happening? It's only happening on 1 out of about 80 SQL servers we have.

Stored Procedures - Using Return Value From Dynamically Created SQL Statement

Jul 29, 2007

Hello,

This is my foray into Stored procedures, so I'm hoping this is a fairly basic question.

I'm writing a stored procedure, in which I dynamically create an SQL statement.
At the end of this, the SQL statement reads like:

Code SnippetSELECT COUNT(*) FROM StockLedger WHERE StockCode = 'STOCK1' AND IsOpen = 1 AND SizeCode = 'L' AND ColourCode = 'RED' AND LocationCode IS NULL AND RemainingQty > 0

Now this statement works a charm, and returns a single value. I want to assign this count to a variable, and use it further on in the stored procedure. This is where the problems start - I cant seem to do it.

If I hard code a statement, like

Code SnippetSELECT @LineCount = COUNT(*) FROM StockLedger
that works fine (although it brings back a count of all the lines).

But if I modify the dynamically created SQL Statement from earlier on to:

Code SnippetSELECT @LineCount = COUNT(*) FROM StockLedger WHERE StockCode = 'STOCK1' AND IsOpen = 1 AND SizeCode = 'L' AND ColourCode = 'RED' AND LocationCode IS NULL AND RemainingQty > 0
it doesnt work - it complains: Must declare the scalar variable "@LineCount".

Just to clarify, when I say "dynamically created an SQL statement, I mean that by a bunch of conditional statements I populate a varchar variable with the statement, and then eventually run it exec(@SQLStatementString)

So, my question would be, how do I do this? How do I make a dynamically generated SQL statement return a value to a variable?

Reporting Services :: Scheduled Operations Cannot Be Created

Sep 17, 2015

We use Reporting Services in native mode in our environment and have several data-driven subscriptions on reports. Somehow not all of the subscriptions can be executed, this seems totaly random and doesn't always apply to the same report/schedule. In the event viewer, I can see the error message : "Scheduled operations cannot be created. SQL Server Agent is not running" ....

But the Agent is in running state and there are no logs that the Agent has stopped or started again. A few minutes later, everything looks okay again and the rest of the scheduled subscriptions are executed.

This doesn't happen every day but 3 or 4 times a week. The following version of SQL Server is installed :

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2) - 10.50.4295.0 (X64)   Oct 18 2013 19:22:52   Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation  Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.2 <X64> (Build 9200: ).

What causes these problems or where to look to determine the cause of this error?

SQL Server 2008 :: Reporting Services Migration - Subscription Jobs Did Not Get Created

Apr 23, 2013

We are moving to a new data center. We have RS install on appweb server that points to different sql server for Reportserver and Reportservertempdb. So, We created a new virtual appweb server and new physical database sql server 2008 r2 at new DC. I did a fresh install of new reporting services 2008 r2 on appweb server. I backed up and restored Reportserver and reportservertempdb dbs from old 2005 sql server to new 2008 r2 database server.

During new RS configuration, I pointed databases to the new restored databases and restored encryption keys. When launched reporting services URL, it works fine.

I stopped and restarted reporting services after configuration.

However, I am not seeing any single job created on new database server. Old server had 20 jobs.

How do I get these subscriptions back to the new install? I thought this should be created with migration and I do not have to do anything.

One odd thing I had to do during config was that:

In scale-out deployment tab in RS configuration, it was showing both the new and old appweb server name as status joined. I was unable to remove the old server name by clicking 'remove server' there. So, I deleted old server name from keys table in Reportsserver as suggested by some forums to have a clean installation. Does it have anything to do with jobs not created?

What do I need to do now to get subscripts jobs created. Ther eare only 20 jobs here but another RS server has over 800 subscriptions that I can not mess up. So, need to find the issue and correct it before I can move on to the another RS instance.

Where To Find Reporting Services News

Dec 22, 2006

I have read an article about Reporting Services that was rather critical regarding a number of topics. But, this article was from 2005 and I assume that there have been some improvements in Reporting Services since then. Or?
If so, are there any good places where you can find the news? I haven€™t been able to find a good site for news in, in this case, Reporting Services.

Reporting Stored Procedures

Nov 10, 2000

Currently I have a backend Sql Server 7 Database. I am creating views of the data. The views are then made available using ODBC as read only data to Access 97, so that users can produce there own reports.

I have created a number of stored procedures which produce commonly used reports. How can I connect them to Access so that result data is available to them.
Is there any other way of connecting to backend stored procedures to frontend applications. I would prefer not to install Sqlserver Desktop edition.
