Reporting Services Install Not Creating Virtual Directories In Default Web Site
Jan 29, 2008
Hi,
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and I can't get Reporting Services to create the virtual directories in Default Web Site, instead it creates a new web site called Report Server with the virtual directories under that, this Report Server website points to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerInetPubwwwroot. Any ideas as to why this happens? My Default Web Site is called Default Website from the initial IIS install , I am on XP Pro SP 2 with IIS 5.1.
This is an issue for me since I don't want to have on another site that doesn't have the aspnet mapings.
I am dumbfounded and can't figure out what to do to make it not do that with the default configuration option checked during install. Should I uninstall and reinstall again and not use the default configuration?
Regards,
Chris

Is there anyway to install a Reporting Services Project that doesn't involve either using the Deploy function from Visual Studio or manually via the upload function in Report Manager?
In other words is it possible to build an msi or a set up file that can be used to install Reporting Service projects?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I have some problem about Reporting Service integrated for SharePoint 2007.
At first, I created 1 user named "User1" under "Domain1". User1 has role "SharePointAdmin" Group and Local Admin Group.
Then I created application pool named "RSAppPool". Its identy was "Domain1User1".
After that, I install Reporting Service and SP2.
Then I config Reporting Service to Integrated Sharepoint Mode below.
Report Server Directory Setting: "ReportServer" in "Default Web Site".
Window Service Identity:
Service Account : "Domain1User1" (Windows Accout)
Web Service Identity:
Report Server: "RSAppPool" (that created above)
Report Manager: Empty
Database Setup:
Database name: Database1 (Server Mode: SharePoint Integrated)
Credential Type : Windows Credentials
Account Name: Domain1User1
After configuration, I reset IIS and test browse to http://servername/ReportServer/ , then there is a Windows Login dialog.
I enter "Domain1User1" and User1's password. But User1 cannot right to access to "ReportServer" virtual directory.
This is error message
You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
I'm not sure. Where is I config wrong? ....
Please help me.
Thank you very much.

I contact you because we installed Report Services 2012 and after configuring werb service URL, database, Report Manager URLs... the URLs linked to the Report server + Report Manager does not work. After searching in IIS, it seems that even if virtual directories are created, they are linked to directories which does not exist :- c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSRS11.ReportReporting Services does contain only LogFiles and RSTempFiles directories.

Hi
I'm pulling my hair out on this one..... Installed SQLServer 2005 Express and upscaled my website and intranet site that runs my photo image library.
All my thumbnails and images are in a local D drive, while my site root is in C drive. I.e. <img src="file:///D|/Images-WMASTER......etc
Images will now not display. I've checked folder & sharing permissions, IIS permissions, all the usual stuff, but still with no luck after 2 weeks #@%$$@!!
If I change to a networked folder, such as <img src="file:///S|/Images-WMASTER...etc then they show fine.
All I can think is that there is some permissions issue with SQLServer that I'm unaware of.
Your erudite advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Rob

I have installed SSRS 2012 Standard Edition in our DR site. We replicate over the reporting server databases over from our Production server via storage replication. It is on a different server than the reporting service. When I configure the SSRS in DR it is still seeing the SSRS from our Production server and tries to make it a scale out deployment which it is obviously not allowed to be because of the edition. Is there something in the database itself I need to change so it doesn't think the production server is still connecting?

Installed SQL Server 2008 with Reporting Services to a Windows Server 2008 box. Tried to open the Report Manager and had no tabs and no Site Settings link - just a blank home page. I am logged onto the server with local administrator rights, so it shouldn't be a permissions issue.
Thinking the installation was bad (IIS was not installed before installing SSRS), I uninstalled and re-installed SSRS after setting up IIS 7 on the server. Still the same issue - just a blank home page in report manager with no ability to add users or assign roles or see anything except the links for "Home", "My Subscriptions", and "Help".

Hi,
We've had this issue for awhile, but I have not been able to find a resolution for this. We have 2 identical servers (hardware & software) set-up: IBM x3850-(88633RU) running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 (5.2.3790 SP1 Build 3790 R2). Server A was running SP1 (Build 9.0.2047) on a 3-node active-passive-passive failover cluster. Server B was running SP2 + Hotfix KB933097 (Build 9.0.3152) on a 2-node active-passive failover cluster. Both these servers are heavily utilized, and when originally installed with these versions of SQL Server Enterprise 2005 experienced no issues during or post-install. The original install of SQL 2005 Enterprise on both these servers had the Cluster Group Selection "Data files" setting changed to "M:MICROSOFT SQL SERVER" so that all system dbs and binaries would be installed to that location. On Server B where SP2 had already been applied, the update was downloaded on May 1, 2007, well after the GDR issues which had been plaguing SP2 releases was supposed to have been resolved.
Our problems began the night when we tried to apply hotfix KB933097 on Server A, and cumulative update packages 1,2,3 on Servers A & B, as well as catch-up the same SP2 and hotfix packages on other non-clustered servers where default system db locations remained the same. On all servers other than Servers A and B, the installs proceeded smoothly and without issue.
On Server B, which was already running SP2 + Hotfix KB933097, we tried installing Cumulative Update Package 1 (Build 9.0.3161) on the primary node. The install proceeded until the following errors were encountered:
"[Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Cannot find the object 'dm_exec_query_resource_semaphores', because it does not exist or you do not have permission."
"[Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Cannot find the object 'dm_exec_query_memory_grants', because it does not exist or you do not have permission."
After this, the setup finished with the message "Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) - Update 'Hotfix 3161 for SQL Server Database Services 2005 (64-bit) ENU (KB935356)' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGHotfixSQL9_Hotfix_KB935356_sqlrun_sql.msp.log."
We rebooted the server and tried several times to reinstall the hotfix as sa and as the database service account with full windows and sa credentials, each time with no success, and rebooting between retries. All other components were installed successfully. We were hesitant to try uninstalling the hotfix, since it was unable to be removed successfully in previous attempts. However, when I connected to Database Engine using Management Studio, I found that the version of SQL being reported was in fact Build 9.0.3161! Everything also appeared to be running properly.
I tried to to Google the answer, but could only find information as applied to SP1 when system dbs master and mssqlsystemresource were located on different locations (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;918695 ). I had already verified that all system dbs, including the ones mentioned, were originally and currently located together on M:Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData.
Finally I contacted a fellow DBA who advised me to continue installing all the other hotfixes, and then compare all SQL files against other servers where the install succeeded to ensure all system files were updated correctly (matching file sizes and datetime stamps). Since we were depending on a fix in Cumulative Update Package 3 to fix a critical log-shipping security issue, I went ahead with the rest of the installs, getting the same error with each package, rebooting between each install.
We found after the final install that the mssqlsystemresource files in the M:Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData
directory were in fact updated after each install with a new timestamp, and that all files in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBinn matched on both file size and timestamp. The log-shipping security issue we were looking to fix also appeared to be resolved by the last update.
On Server A, which was running SP1 (Build 9.0.2047), we installed the same SP2 package as we had on Server B with no issue. We rebooted and then tried to apply the same Hotfix KB933097 (Build 9.0.3152) that had been applied successfully on Server B and found to our surprise that the same errors were being generated here as well. We continued to apply the rest of the hotfixes so that both servers matched software updates. Comparing the above directories showed that files seemed to have been updated, even though database services appeared to be not installed.
It looks like we now need Cumulative Update 5 hotfix package in order to deal with WMI alerting issues, but I'm afraid to apply it until we have a known resolution for the past errors.
Since this issue was supposed to be resolved by SP2, I'm not sure why these post-SP2 hotfixes should fail. It seems to me to be an issue of the directory location of the system files which is in question.
I can post the hotfix log files as well, if anyone is interested in seeing them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As well, does anyone have any idea when SP3 is scheduled to come out? I really don't like applying hotfixes which are usually untested for general purposes, and it seems Microsoft is delaying this in favour of releasing SQL 2008.

Thought I'd help some folks with rs and dates..
here is some scalar valued functions:
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_date_only] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(day, DateDiff(day, 0, GetDate()), 0)
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_month_end] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(ms, -3, dateadd (m,datediff(m,0,
dateadd(m,1,@date)),0))
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_month_start] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(m,datediff(m,0, @date),0)
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_end] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(ms, -3, datediff(d,0,dateadd(d,1,@today)))
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_today_noon](@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime

END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_tomorrow_noon](@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime
BEGIN
RETURN DATEADD(hh, 12, DATEADD(d,DATEDIFF(d,-1, @date),0))
END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_week_end] (@date datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
return dateadd(yyyy, datepart(yyyy,

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_weekday_end] (@weekday tinyint,

END
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[get_yesterday_start] (@today datetime)
RETURNS datetime AS
BEGIN
RETURN dateadd(day, -1, datediff(d,0,@today))
END
Then create a Table-Valued Function like so:
CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[udfCommonDates] (@date datetime)
RETURNS @t table (week_start datetime,
week_end datetime,
lastweek_start datetime,
lastweek_end datetime,
month_start datetime,
month_end datetime,

lastmonth_end datetime,
yesterday_start datetime,
yesterday_end datetime,
today_start datetime,
today_end datetime,
thisweek_monday_start datetime,
thisweek_monday_end datetime,
year_start datetime,
year_end datetime,
tomorrow_noon datetime,
today_noon datetime,
date_only datetime)
BEGIN
INSERT @t
SELECT
dbo.get_week_start ( @date ) AS week_start,
dbo.get_week_end ( @date ) AS week_end,
dbo.get_week_start ( DATEADD(d, -7, @date ) ) AS lastweek_start,
dbo.get_week_end ( DATEADD(d, -7, @date ) ) AS lastweek_end,
dbo.get_month_start( @date ) AS month_start,
dbo.get_month_end ( @date ) AS month_end,
dbo.get_month_start ( DATEADD(m,-1, @date) ) AS lastmonth_start,
dbo.get_month_end ( DATEADD(m,-1,@date) ) AS lastmonth_end,
dbo.get_yesterday_start ( @date ) AS yesterday_start,
dbo.get_yesterday_end ( @date ) AS yesterday_end,
dbo.get_today_start (@date) AS today_start,
dbo.get_today_end ( @date ) AS today_end,
dbo.get_weekday_start(1,@date) AS thisweek_monday_start,
dbo.get_weekday_end(1,@date) AS thisweek_monday_end,
dbo.get_year_start(@date) AS year_start,
dbo.get_year_end(@date) AS year_end,
dbo.get_tomorrow_noon(@date) AS TomorrowNoon,
dbo.get_today_noon(@date) AS TodayNoon,
dbo.get_date_only(@date) AS DateOnly
RETURN
END
Now the RS folks might be thinking but how does this help me as I need a dataset and a dataset can only be based on a Stored Procedure or a direct table. No problem create the following stored procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[uspCommonDates] AS
begin
set datefirst 1
declare @date datetime
set @date = getdate()
select * from dbo.udfCommonDates(@date)
end
Now you've got a stored procedure to use as a dataset...Now in reporting services add a new dataset:
Now go to the report parameters section of the report:
Now pick that dataset dsFunctions (or whatever you called it) and then pick any of the value fields from the scalar functions such as:
Now when you run the report it uses the scalars:
If you have questions feel free to ask :).
Hope this helps someone

I have searched the web and have not had any luck on finding the issue to my problem. I'm sure it's probably simple, so here it goes.
When receiving the following error "The permissions granted to user '' are insufficient for performing this operation"
Now, I would like to add to the error message shown above an extra line below it on the web page to reflect something like "Please contact XXX @ XXX if you feel that you need to have your login issue resolved" ...or something meaningful in addition to the default error messages.
I am not getting this error normally, as I have made a typo when login in on purpose! I am just trying to find a way to add more detail to the current error message or change the message to what I want it to say. This would go for any error message received by an end user received through SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.
Do I have to create some sort of filter to read the message coming back from within SOAP? Are these messages stored in ReportingServices database or htm file?
Thanks!

I have a report with datetime parameter which is required to be optional (there should be an option not to select this parameter which would cause in not narrowing result of this report by this parameter).
I used datetime parameter
@daTo (to have the calendar control for selecting date) and check on "Allow Null" value. Here is default Value.
I've also tried to set DefaultValue expression was "=Nothing".
IN my query of data set, here is the part I use the parameter @daTo
... Where (@daTo IS NULL OR TRUNC(@daTo) >= TRUNC(pe.start_time) ....
But when I run the report, I got below error:
ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected DATE got NUMBER
I think it @daTo value actually not null so it try to TRunc the value
I don't know how to set null value default in my report.

HI,
I am trying to set the following default parameter : datepart("m",now()). The parameter is an integer
If I do this through visual studio 2005 it works just fine.
However I need to change this for a linked report and when I do the same thing in the viewer (using the "Overide Default" key) I get the following error
"The parameter Month contains a value that is not valid. This parameter takes an integer as a value"
Can anyone suggest a way to get arround this ?

Please choose on that matches therequirements."MS Requirements are SQL 2000 Standard, SQL 2000 Enterprise, and SQL 2000Developer edition. What does this mean, any comments or feedback will be greately appreciated.- Sergio

How can I install SQL2005 Reporting Services to a local pc? I have a WindowsXP workstation and want to be able to report from SQL databases, and am having a very hard time understanding what is necessary to get to the Reporting Services. I loaded the SQL2005 cd, but when it got to the Components to Install screen, Reporting Services was grayed out and not able to be selected. The SQL databases are maintained on a separate server apart from my workstation.
MS Access 2000 is loaded on the computer and I know I can make pass-through queries for reporting, but I really would like to move to SQL2005. I just do not know where to go next.
Thanks for any help.
Dan

I may be a fool, I installed Sql 2005 on my dev box, and I forgot to check reporting services. Anyway how can I install reporting services once I have installed Sql Server? I tried re-runing setup but I did not see a reporting services option as an option. I am sure I am just missing something simple.
Thanks
Justin

Hi All,
We are having a bit of a disagreement of where to install reporting services within work, and i would like some input.
Basically there are two views.
1. We leave reporting Services running on one of our current servers, and reference it through the report viewer, using http. I think the firewall is setup to do this internally. The websites will then use the control to access the reports.
2. We have reporting services on our external DMZ where all our websites reside.
I have argued for number 1, becuase mainly of memory usage and problems it can cause to servers performance wise.
Anyone else got any ideas?
Cheers, Nick

I am trying to configure Reporting Services on a server which is not the database server. I keepo getting a message telling me I am not authorized to access the Report Manager or Report Server virtual directories... no matter what user and pass I enter.
How do I get this to work? Remember Reporting Services is installed on a server separate from the databsae server.
Thanks

Tried to uninstall SQL Server 64-bit on Windows 2003 remotely. All components uninsntalled properly except Reporting Services.
The log file lists the following error -
/*****
ReportingServicesService!library:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing., ;
Info: Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
*******/
Now I cannot see Reporting Services under Add/Remove programs (ARPWrapper.exe /remove). It is also not displayed when using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (msicuu2.exe). I can start the default instance of RS via Reporting Services Configuration manager and it can also be also started under Windows Services. BTW, the IIS folder structure is under the default website for Reports and ReportServer is present.
So, now how do I go about uninstalling SQL Reporting Services when I cannot see it (as an installed program) without rebuilding the machine ?
Thank you.

I installed SSRS 2014 Reporting Services on a 2008R2 Enterprise server. When I try to subscribe to a report (also SQL 2014), the default rendering is MHTML. I want to change this default to EXCEL.
I updated the rsreportserver.config file and restarted SQL Server Reporting Service. Now, the default rendering for a subscription is 'XML file with report data' which is the first <Render> data element. If I change
<DefaultRenderingExtension>EXCEL</DefaultRenderingExtension> back to <DefaultRenderingExtension>MHTML</DefaultRenderingExtension>
And restart SSRS Service, the default subscription rendering is MHTML.
<DeliveryUI>
<Extension Name="Report Server Email" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.EmailDeliveryProvider.EmailDeliveryProviderControl,ReportingServicesEmailDeliveryProvider">
<DefaultDeliveryExtension>True</DefaultDeliveryExtension>
<Configuration>

I have two parameters, lets say P1 and P2. P2 is cascaded with P1. P1 -> P2.
For the parameter P2, the following proterty set are
1. Multi Select
2. The default value is all the available value selected (Same dataset is assigned to both "Available Values" and "Default Values")
The data relation be,
P1 P2
A a
A b
A c
A d
B a
Now the issue is,
Step 1 : When i choose A in P1 first time, a,b,c and d in P2 are selected
Step 2 : When i change B in P1, a is selected
Step 3 : When i change back to A in P1, only a is selected in P2 (a,b,c and d should be selected)
