Reporting Services :: Moving Images To Another Path
Sep 24, 2015
Using the "move" command it's possible to relocate e.g. datasources without negatively impacting reports that use them. We've got some folders where users have uploaded images for reuse in several reports as external images (2008 R2).
Now I'm trying to consolidate these folders. Yet it seems, moving images will not update the reports that use them as it happens with datasource. Instead, the link to the image breaks.
Is there a way to move the images and telling the reports that reference them that I did so?
Basically i have 3 images capacity per record in my asp.net application. In there i am saving the image path with record id in database and image in my application folder.
Now i am creating SSRS Report in Report builder . In there i have taken one image control to show the images. In the Image properties in report builder i have chosen database under the select the image source field. then inside use this field i have chosen image url and in use this MIME Type i have selected image/jpeg. Now i have saved this report in report server folder.
Now while calling in .net web from through report viewer control. It is opening the report but wont showing the image.
I've looked around but am unable to find an answer that relates to my question.
Is there a way in Reporting Services in which you can display a report and have an Image Relating to that particular Person/Product etc for instance
[EmployeeID] [EmployeeName] [EmployeePic]
1 Bob Green Pic of Bob Green 2 Andy Green Pic Of Andy Green 3 Andy Tabble Pic Of Andy Tabble
In reporting Service i will have a group on EmployeeID, now i want a picture for each employee that will be hown in the table that relates to that row and and relates to the particualiar employee.
What whould be the best way to do this? at present i am looking at say pointers for images or actually storing the image in the database say tumbnail? how would i go about setting this up up in SQL 2005 Management Studio and what would be the best way in terms of Performance and Reporting Services
We currently have reports for a client running on SQL 2000 RS. The strange thing (problem) is that we can see any embedded image in the Report when we Preview it, and view it on our testing server (SQL 2000), but at the client's site (also running SQL 2000) the images don't appear at all. The same goes for any graphs inside the report as well. This is very puzzling as we cannot find out what the problem is. The other strange thing is that we can see the images on the client's site when running them through Report Manager, but when we go through the application using the Reports, then the images do not appear at all. We have no idea of what's wrong. The app is running on 2003 Server x64, the database is being hosted on another server running 2003 Server, and the report server is running on another server running Windows 2000 Server.
Our system is set up using SQL Server 2000 and Reporting Services for SQL Server 2000. Our web application is built with Visual Studio 2003, C# and .Net Framework 1.1 and is a 3-tier application. On both our localhost and development builds of the application, the images that get rendered do show up properly. On our live build, the images do not.
One difference that we found is that on the live build, users do not have file permission access to our middle tier that is running reporting services. After examining the URL of where the image is trying to point to, we see that it is trying to access the middle tier from the front presentation tier.
My question is, is there a way to send a certain parameter into the Render method to have the images stored somewhere else? Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Here is the code we currently have:
ReportingService rs = new ReportingService(); rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
reportParameters[0] = new ParameterValue(); reportParameters[0].Name = "par_userID"; reportParameters[0].Value = userID;
reportParameters[1] = new ParameterValue(); reportParameters[1].Name = "par_menuID"; reportParameters[1].Value = menuID;
reportParameters[2] = new ParameterValue(); reportParameters[2].Name = "par_URL"; reportParameters[2].Value = reportURL;
reportParameters[3] = new ParameterValue(); reportParameters[3].Name = "par_startPage"; reportParameters[3].Value = startPage;
reportParameters[4] = new ParameterValue(); reportParameters[4].Name = "par_endPage"; reportParameters[4].Value = endPage;
//Clean up old files RemoveFiles(ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["tempFileLocation"]);
result = rs.Render(reportPath, format, historyID, devInfo, reportParameters, credentials, showHideToggle, out encoding, out mimeType, out reportHistoryParameters, out warnings, out streamIDs);
// // For each image stream returned by the call to render, // // render the stream and save it to the application root // byte[] image; // string optionalString = null; // string tempFilePath = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["tempFileLocation"].ToString(); // // foreach (string streamID in streamIDs) // { // image = rs.RenderStream(reportPath, // "HTML4.0", // streamID, // null, // null, // reportHistoryParameters, // out optionalString, // out optionalString); // // FileStream stream = File.OpenWrite(tempFilePath + streamID + ".png"); // stream.Write(image, 0, image.Length); // stream.Close(); // }
// Write the results to the current Web page string htmlout = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(result); htmlout = htmlout.Replace("<hr/>", "");
I'm currently working on a report and have all the requirements taken care of save one. I need to flip my text 180 degrees. I have seen how to do this by making an image on the fly and then rotating the image, etc. And that is what we previously had in place.
Unfortunately the reports are getting so large (20 images on a page, 150 pages for the report) that the reports will not print in their entirety through Citrix and cuts off after about 120 pages.
I also tried using upside down fonts which won't work as they flip the letter on a X axis as opposed to rotating them along a pivot. Sadly we can't reduce the number of occurrences per page or decrease the page count. So those are not options. They were the first things I asked about.
Hi, I'm trying to insert the Url for the image control in the Report designer. As per your article there should be an option (radio button) in Image Wizard to use set the URL for the reports. But i do not get that option at all. All i get is these options a) - Embedded b) - Project c) - Database I do not get a URL option. My problem is that i have a URL path to the images that are stored on a Web Server. I would like to this path to be the source of the Image control. I can't make it work. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, GJ
When i change my managed pipeline mode to integrated mode for my web application, the ssrs reports with images in it are not loading. It is showing as cross mark. However it works in classic mode.
I have an XML file that some of the nodes are represented with a namespace prefix. I have found the "msdn" page where shows the possibility to filter using the Namespace Prefix, but I have not been successful at it.
I have some questions about moving the reporting services. I need to move the reporting services from one server to another server in production. some body already installed the reporting services in production server, I moved the reporting services to the production server from the other server using the backup file. after that I tried to initialize using the reporting services configuration tool but every thing in the left side are turned to green except the initialize thing. it is just grey and i am not able to connect to reporting services, when I tried to initialize it is saying the user doesn't have the permission to connect to the reporting services. I posted before I had lot of suggestions but it does'nt work. Thank you very much for your support. Any body have any idea about this issue.
during period of troubles connecting to Local Servers and Sites location i.e., to [URL], the place where all Reports are saved by default, I have continued to work on some Reports that have been saved to file system of my localhost/developing machine. But, upon recovery of http location, I can not see/open those files?
how to approach those files in order to open them in Report Builder 3.0 and thus, to "save as" them to the http location? Seems that Report Builder has chosen that location, by default, somehow.....
I have a requirement for a side by side upgrade of an instance from SQL 2008 to SQL 2014. There are reporting services configured. How to I properly migrate and configure the reporting piece on new SQL 2014 instance?
We will making a change to our Reporting Services deployment next month. We will be moving from our SQL 2000 server to a new SQL 2005 server. In addition, we will moving from a Local Catalog Deployment to a Remote Catalog Deployment. My question is this: Is there a way I can prevent my team from having to manually redeploy our reports in the new system? They have not been diligent about saving the Visual Studio solution or project files, so they will have to pull the most up-to-date RDL's off the server and deploy them on the new server one by one.
I suppose I can install SQL 2000 on the new server first, then move the Reporting Services databases to the new server, then upgrade the server to 2005, but installing 2000 and upgrading to 2005 does not sound like a best practice. I would prefer a clean install of 2005. Does anyone know if I can move the deployed reports from one server to another?
I have an issue as to where only some reports are visible within Report Viewer url. But if I navigate to the path of the rdl's there are many more present that should be visible through Report Viewer. The client was recently upgraded, and I seem to have all out of box roles and permission levels yet can only see some of those reports, as if some were manually copied to this folder location at a later point and perhaps some user job needs to be run to reflect import those additional rdl's?
I am new to the sql server, we need to move the database from one server to another from developer's edition to standard edition of sql server 2005. it has the reproting services and lot of reporting service jobs are running on the server now. we need to move all those jobs also to the new server. could some body help me on how to move the database and reporting services jobs to the another server. Thanks!
Hi, for my photo album database I'm trying to decide whether to store the actual photos as images in the db or whether to leave them in file directories with just the path & filename in the db. As a beginner in this field I don't know how either of these options compare (e.g. in terms of performance, complexity, flexibility and maintainablity) so any advice on the pros and cons of each would be appreciated.
hi, does anyone know how can i move a group of ssis packages from the original path into another one in the same server???? from ssis services? just like we do it with the windows explorer????
Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url. My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?
Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.
I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).
Am I going about this the hard way ? Is there a location where the web service url exists in a table ? I could not locate anything in the Reporting service database. Basically need to inventory all of my reporting services url's.
I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified. Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script) at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'? Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?
I'm attempting to obtain a cost effective solution for my existing customers to develop reports on their SQL 2000 Server installations using their Reporting Services 2000. With products like Visual Basic.NET 2003 becoming almost impossible to obtain, I have at least one customer who is running into a dead end.
One option possibly is the SQL Express with Advanced Services download, which has Reporting Services. My questions are as follows:
Can the report designer component of SQL Express Reporting Services be configured to connect to an external database (which would happen to be a SQL 2000 database) to establish its datasets? Does the resultant designed report end up in an RDL file? If the customer published this report via the Reporting Services 2000 Report Manager, would the report be able to run?
Sorry for asking a question like this that I could probably answer on my own, but my customer needed this answer yesterday. I have scoured the web and microsoft sites - and posted a question on the official SQL Reporting Services cateogy ... in an attempt to answer the basic question of how to design reports for Reporting Services 2000 in the absence of Visual Basic.NET 2003 (or other .NET 2003 tools) with no success.
I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on my Laptop for use with IIS 7.0; Everything was working fine untill I opened the Report Server Site with WVD 2008, it asked me to Modify the web.config for debugging. After doing that the Report Server Site started showing an error page saying there was a rsInternal error. I tried fixing the Web.config by hand but it dident work, so I tried completly reinstalling the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. It reinstalled perfectly excluding the Report Server. When it came time to install the Report Server; I got the error message.
The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Setting reporting service and share point exclusion path. The error is: Fatal error during installation.

We have a main package which is calling multiple other packages. The the child packages uses parent package variables and which we are configuring using configuration file while installation of the package. Here we need to set each path while installation because there are many variables using the same path with the different file names(Different files stored in same Folder). We want to get the main path and then if we use relative path in other variables then we need not to assign all the variable paths while installation.
How to we can get the Application path in Integration Services Package(Script Task)?
I am having a problem with MMSQL BLOB with VB, Sorry to say I am new in Programming using VB 6 and MSSQL and I have never touch BLOB in my live.
I just wish anyone could give me any ideal, like, white pages, or manual on how do I insert BLOB data (Images) to MSSQL 2000 database using VB 6. I need to know exspecially the VB Code and the SQL Portion if you have a store procedure code for that it will be nice. :confused:
Hi all,I have 5 databases, each about 20GB in size. I need to copy the data toa new server for reporting purposes. Initially I wanted to setuptransactional replication; however, the database schemas often change(adding or modifying tables) and in order to accomodate those changesthrough replication I would need to send a new snapshot each time achange occurs. This is very time consuming.So I decided instead to use log shipping, until I realized thereporting databases would be unavailable during the period when thetransaction log was being applied. That also will not work.So what does everyone else use? My only requirements are that thereporting databases be available during business hours and there bevery little administration when it comes to changing the databaseschema.Thanks,Josh
I am having issue in running a ssis package which connects to an excel file from shared location.It works fine on the machine of the person who has developed it as he has access to that shared drive.After deploying the ssis package to SSISDB and creating a proxy account with the developer's credential, and running the ssis package using the proxy under SQL Agent Jobs, it is failing with error :

I am trying to move my reporting databases on Server1 to another server (Server2). The databases are named ReportServer$Server1 and ReportServer$Server1TempDB, and I would like them to be named ReportServer$Server2 and ReportServer$Server2TempDB on Server2. I have followed all the steps in the KB articles on moving databases, and I have restored the key from Server1 onto Server2. I can use the Report Manager to change the Data Source connection string on Server2. However, when I try to access a report, or delete an unwanted object, it always errors out, and there is a reference to ReportServer$Server1TempDB in the error message.
Where is this dependency on the old name coming from? Is there no way to rename the report server databases?
